Just Who Is The SEIU Threatening These Days?
It seems The SEIU is making rediculous threats for a change. They will get their way – NOW! Otherwise, they intend to get the banksters by crashing Wall Street. They intend to end capitalism as we now know it and redistribute the proceeds fairly. Silly me. I always thought you could do that by voting for Democrats.
So just how does one get the banksters? I’d like to collect them and trade them amongst my friends. Frivolity aside, this is an absolute joke. But just for kicks, Business Insider explains the Glorious Proletariat Revolution below.
Lerner said that unions and community organizations are, for all intents and purposes, dead. The only way to achieve their goals, therefore–the redistribution of wealth and the return of “$17 trillion” stolen from the middle class by Wall Street–is to “destabilize the country.”
Lerner’s plan is to organize a mass, coordinated “strike” on mortgage, student loan, and local government debt payments–thus bringing the banks to the edge of insolvency and forcing them to renegotiate the terms of the loans. This destabilization and turmoil, Lerner hopes, will also crash the stock market, isolating the banking class and allowing for a transfer of power.
So let’s unpack this volatile, Gramscian Screed. These people intend to deliberately default on their mortgages and student loans. They intend to act like pseudo-sapient, lower-order primates at the next J.P. Morgan stockholders meeting. And that will lead to a transfer of power that will supposedly benefit labor unions? I’m just not sure how.
Here’s what I see happening. Maybe the SEIU could actually talk a whole bunch of people into using their personal creditworthiness in a Kamikaze Attack against major banking institutions. This would cause Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Servis First a few serious headaches. It would do nothing to the Redstone Federal Credit Union, where I would transfer my mortgage and my meager checking and savings about five minutes after I believed this bunco scheme was actually beginning to work.
Then businesses that needed a line of credit to expand would approach all of these august institutions suffering the mortgage strike. There would be no money, because all the striking buffoons wouldn’t be paying their debt obligations. The major businesses and industries couldn’t get loans, wouldn’t create jobs. The natural processes that systematically and steadily erode gainful employment would continue unabated – without any offset from gainful capital manipulation. This would steadily jack up the U3 and U6 rates of unemployment.
So who does this unemployment really threaten? Does it threaten JP Morgan? Not particularly. They are one stock sale and spin-off away from really not caring a hang about the subprime mortgage market in Paducah, KY.
Does this threaten John Boehner? Not really. He’s never been a really big SEIU fan-boy. He disavows their tactics and decries all the Left-Wing Economic Terrorism. If he’s on his game, for a change, he takes it further. He reminds all of us that this sort activity by community organizers and self-important labor leaders is just the sort of negative externality we can expect when friends let friends commit the folly of voting for Democrats.
So just who does this put the heat on? Who has hitched his star to cleaning up this mess he inherited? Whose reelection prospects depend on the commencement of real, not just temporary, gubbermint-forced, improvement in the economic numbers? Barack Obama – that’s who. The SEIU has just issued a thinly-veiled threat against the man they believed was their very own, personal POTUS.
The SEIU has seen what happened in Wisconsin, where the unions failed to slag down Governor Walker and looked positively evil – when they were mailing GOP state senators death threats. They have recently heard Ohio Senator, and supposed flaming leftist, Sherrod Brown, make like Brave Sir Robin in the Monty Python skit, and totally disavow passing card-check legislation this term.
What Sherrod Brown said was a true and honest assessment of what he believed the bill’s chances were of becoming law. He wasn’t even saying the bill was a bad idea or that the unions that wanted it weren’t good people. He just threw up his hands and addressed what “is” is. Yet two things about what Sherrod Brown did nailed the SEIU to the perch, so to speak.
Organized Labor’s priorities are the first ones to be sacrificed, not Wall Street’s. This makes the SEIU wonder who the Democrats really work for. Electorates hire the political leaders they vote for. They expect goods and services in exchange for continued loyalty and support. It would be dishonest to view the current American political process through any other less-jaundiced prism.
When Walker wins in Wisconsin, and supposedly hard-core leftist Senators write off major union priorities for the sake of electoral survival, the SEIU experiences doubts regarding the ROI of their continued investments in Team Jack-Ass. The second thing that sticks in the craw of SEIU leadership is the rather conspicuous absence of President Obama on Wisconsin and the Card Check Bill. They want him to rack the (redacted) golf clubs and start remembering who walks a precinct or two on his behalf.
Yet the President won’t even vote “Present” when SEIU-types are in the same room these days. He avoids them the way pro-athletes avoid locker room staph infections. He considers them political kryptonite on the level of Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Thus the SEIU looks for the 9-iron so that they can beat President Obama over the head and demand attention and respect.
So, fear not. The SEIU will not destroy American Capitalism, or even defenestrate any of the banksters. They will make noises until “Mud-Cat” Saunders, Paul Begala, and Bob Shrum all crap their pink, donkey-festooned diapers and ask for a meeting with the Obama Reelection Team that currently governs our nation. At that point, something-something will be tossed to organized labor as a big, fat, financial hush-puppy. To shut them up before the political silly season gets in full swing. That’s my Internet Conspiracy Theory regarding the SEIU Internet Conspiracy Theory. Life as we know it will continue apace, despite our obnoxious political-revolutionary blowhards.
