One of the ridiculous canards always trotted out in defense of taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood is that Planned Parenthood is not just an abortion mill, it is a full-service women’s health provider. Specifically, it has been claimed over and over again that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms. Why do you want women to die of breast cancer, you evil Republican? Take it away, Barbara Boxer:
California U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer is lambasting what she calls a Republican “vendetta” against Planned Parenthood, saying that efforts in the House Republicans’ proposed budget to entirely defund the organization will impact millions.
In California alone, hundreds of thousands of women, the Democratic Senator said, use the organization’s “life-saving” services — including cancer screenings, mammograms, day-to-day health care, OB-GYN services as well as contraception and family planning.
In addition to being frequently repeated by politicans who are in Planned Parenthood’s pocket, this claim is frequently repeated at Planned Parenthood rallies, blogs, newspaper editorials, and on television (courtesy of Planned Parenthood’s CEO). Turns out, Planned Parenthood does not so much do mammograms:
Planned Parenthood is now fighting back against Live Action claiming, in essense, “Hey, we never said we did mammograms.” Judge for yourself as to whether that is true or not in the above clip. However, even if we grant that that is true, Planned Parenthood has certainly never taken the time to rebut this claim, which has been made repeatedly on its behalf by its defenders for years, until Live Action called them out on it.
Don’t worry, though, even if Planned Parenthood doesn’t do mammograms, they still do offer a wide array of creative services other than abortions. For instance, they offer, um… abortion gift cards! So rest easy about your tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood, because they are doing lots of great things for women.
Media bias is hydra-headed in its perniciousness. It operates on many levels – in many ways. One of its practitioners’ favorite moves is the terrible headline. In which they knowingly – or unknowingly – tip their hand on the story at hand. These heinous headlines can effectively work to sway casual, drive-by media consumers – who don’t go deep into multiple articles to get a | Read More »
If you scratch any Republican pundit on the face of the earth, a comparison between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Rudy Giuliani’s 2008 campaign will fall out. If the point is to illustrate that being the frontrunner at this stage of the race won’t necessarily translate to victory, then these pundits are on solid ground. If the point is to draw a meaningful parallel between the current | Read More »
I watch Donald Trump attack those that go after him or candidates that get close to him in the polls and I wonder about the language he uses. How he calls them terrible, losers and worse. Consider how he called Ben Carson, a renown pediatric neurosurgeon, a mediocre doctor. Or his statements about Carly Fiorina’s appearance. Not to mention his more than inappropriate comments about Megyn Kelly that gat him uninvited from the RedState Gathering. And why does he speak to voters at a fourth grade level? After all, Trump has an Ivy League education and is a very successful world class businessman.
While I am aware of the well-justified concerns of many conservative activists about the potential abuses of Twitter’s new “Hate Speech” policy, I applaud Twitter for finally doing something about a problem that was making Twitter unenjoyable and borderline unusable: perpetually abusive anonymous (often racist) trolls. Twitter has been in search of answers about its lack of growth (especially relative to other social media sites | Read More »
