EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Hey RedState Readers, You Can Post Now

One of the odd bugs we have had to deal with this week with the relaunch is one that prevented non-front page contributors from posting diaries via a front page link.

That is fixed now.

At the top right you’ll see a link that says “create new post”. Click it and you can do as the link says.

Sorry it took so long, but now it is there.

    Um, no. No it doesn’t.

    I get a message saying :

“You attempted to access the “RedState” dashboard, but you do not
currently have privileges on this site. If you believe you should be
able to access the “RedState” dashboard, please contact your network
    administrator.”
And yes, i’m logged in or I wouldn’t be able to comment. :)

I think I did a diary entry a long time ago but haven’t since so maybe that’s part of it. However my user account is still good.

?? You all have my contact info if needed.

    Thanks.

    3rd update.

    1. logged out left site and removed cookie for redstate
    2. closed Firefox then reopened and then to redstate
    3. clicked on logged in (got a different login than if I logged out while at redstate and then logged in???)
    4. Got no dashboard doing it this way.
    5. tried then to “Create New Post” and got the message again saying I didn’t have permission to go to the redstate dashboard.
    6. logged out on redstate page then logged in again. got different log in screen.
    7. after log in first up was the dashboard (with no link to the Redstate site.)
    8. clicked the back button to get redstate page and “create new post” still inop.

My cache gets dumped whenever I close Firefox so that’s not the problem.

There is no link TO the dashboard FROM the front page and no link FROM the dashboard TO the front page

No indication of when, how or from where/who I get permission for new diary.

??? I am out of ideas to try.

    7.

You have to be logged in to see the new button Erick mentions.

  • westcoastpatriette

Yes, I already have diary posting privileges (something that has to be approved if you are new).

  • westcoastpatriette

Just published a new diary but it is not showing up anywhere that I can see. Have to go to the wordpress dashboard and that is the only place that it shows up. Any suggestions anyone?

We’re still working and the computer whizzes are monitoring this and the open thread too.

  • MiamiDave

How long does it usually take diary privileges to be approved? I made my request around the 24th of August.

  • Melody Warbington

Neil, this may be on your to do list, but my suggestions on EE’s open thread diary where I originally made this suggestion are gone, so I’m not sure.

Anyway, it would be really great if the recent comments appeared on every page. Makes it much easier to keep up with and maybe catch a comment you’d otherwise miss. Just too much back and forth. So if you can go ahead and make that work from now on, that’d be great and be sure you use the new cover sheet for the TPS reports. (I really hope you saw Office Space.)

I’d be OK, if they would just tone down the glacier white background for starters.

I have enjoyed being a member of Redstate, but so far the “wonderful new changes” have just made me want to stay away. Liked the old site better.

Thank goodness. I thought at first that I had been banned for some unknown reason. Then I go really paranoid that some Paulbot had hijacked my id and posted and re-posted attacks on the Republicans for not announcing Ron Paul’s votes at the convention. Finally I imagined that there was now a subscription fee that I hadn’t paid. Now all is right again, at least for me. But where is acat? I can’t find him anywhere?
    Meow.

kitty’s still around, tooncesthecat. He might be chasing the mice that are hidden inside all the glitches around here.

Glad to see the button for “create new post” on the day before the end of the RNC and finally after a week since the announcement of the new and “improved” RS website. I am not alone in thinking this was probably the most important feature of RS and it’s community of loyal readers and posters. I won’t pretend that I am very dissappointed to see that this feature is just like the old; html coded, difficult to use and lacking of a GUI found in other websites. So creating diaries is still just as user unfriendly as before, which was the part of the conversion that I waited patiently for while the bugs were worked out for days on end. I don’t know how to make paragraphs work so I give up and will take Bill’s wrath. I still don’t see how to post a video in a comment and reading the same exact comments in multiple Front Page Diaries is making me crazy. Also I can’t read user comments unless logged in and like many others, I’d like to see the active comments while I’m in any diary or article, regardless of reading or commenting on it. I guess I’ll leave again until all is well in RS land. I hope we’re told when that will be and when the “How To/User Guide” will magically appear as promised. Being the optimist that normally I am, I tried to make positive and helpful comments the first few days and roll with the new site. Unfortunately, to my knowledge (and not willing to try to search for old comments), I got 2 responses; one from the Lead Nerd and one from Bill S, both of whom I’ve thanked for responding. Sorry my optimisim has faded more since I stayed away intentionally due to frustration and still, it just ain’t right as we say in Texas. In other words, all hat and no cattle.

Where have all the diariests gone? EE told us Readers could post new diaries on 8/30 so when I looked, the latest one is from 8/25. So is it working or have they all left or taken a vacation? Curious minds, like member contributors / readers would like to know.

That’s one of the remaining unpatched bugs. I brought it up again yesterday.

Any updates? Any word on when the “Diaries” tab will post updated diaries? Still seeing diaries from 8/25. The member diaries sidebar is also still showing the same listings from 8/25, and clicking “all” does nothing.

CheckMate: the frustration both long-term and short-term continues. I will write the same thing about this website again: when it comes to ease of use for writing, RedState stinks. It is the Internet equivalent of carbon paper and white-out! Apparently most suggestions on how to improve it were – again – ignored. But this is good: RedState gives us an example of how large businesses can lose long-term by ignoring their customers’ suggestions.

Hi Ausonius! I had to step away from the ledge, I mean site, as it was driving me nuts. Seems my comment about posting a diary wasn’t out of place reading from alanjoe’s below….meaning it’s like ISDN- i still don’t know!
    :-{
Well we shall be patient because afterall, they inherited a big conversion mess and have managed to turn it around, not as fast as we wanted but it’s not their fault; it’s Bush’s fault :-)
