Charles Krauthammer on the Collapse of the Cairo Doctrine

Today Charles Krauthammer focuses on the failure of Barack Obama’s “Cairo Doctrine.” This was the policy of servile obedience to radical islamists that Obama served up as an alternative to the Bush years. Apparently being merely safe wasn’t enough for Obama.

It’s as axiomatic in statecraft as in physics: Nature abhors a vacuum. Islamists rush in to fill the space and declare their ascendancy. America’s friends are bereft, confused, paralyzed.

Islamists rise across North Africa from Mali to Egypt. Iran repeatedly defies U.S. demands on nuclear enrichment, then, as a measure of its contempt for what America thinks, openly admits that its Revolutionary Guards are deployed in Syria. Russia, after arming Assad, warns America to stay out, while the secretary of state delivers vapid lectures about Assad “meeting” his international “obligations.” The Gulf states beg America to act on Iran; Obama strains mightily to restrain . . . Israel.

Read it all. You won’t regret it.

    I agree. Recent events show Obama’s naivete about the Muslim world. “A New Beginning” does not erase a history of bad feelings in the Muslim world for us. But recent events seem to have no connection to any so called vacuum created by Obama. I usually agree with Sir Charles. But he has me scratching my head on this one. What does he want? Fill the “vacuum” by sending marines to occupy the streets surrounding our embassies? I don’t get it.

    I’m sorry, but I cannot, and never could, get on board with the idea that somehow Barack Obama is naive or clueless or stupid. He is inexperienced and lazy and care-less (in the truest sense of the word) and he knows on which side his bread is buttered. He is a Saul Alinsky lefty, but only as it fits into the political system of the Democrat Party, that is why he was chosen as their poster boy in 2008. They knew they could control him, and that he would not buck the system, and he was on board with any kind of nefarious crap they wanted to put over on the American people. Das Comrade is what is referred to as a brown noser or an ass kisser. The kind of self centered, self-promoter that you might work with and you just want to punch out. I believe he is a Muslim in spirit and struggles with any kind of denunciation of radical Islam’s behavior – just look at how he disses Israel. He cannot bring himself to call his brethren terrorists or punish them for killing Americans. Whenever the fanatic Islamists take offense at us for whatever, and start losing their minds, he thinks another apology tour is in order.
    This bum has got to go this year. We will have nothing left if he gets another term.
