UPDATED: High-School Teacher Threatens To Assault Student For Wearing Romney T-Shirt, Likens It To KKK Sheet

Racism has again raised its ugly head in this presidential election and it has filtered all the way down to the classroom level where, in Philadelphia, a high school student was threatened with assault by her geometry teacher last Friday for wearing a Mitt Romney t-shirt.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, last Friday was dress-down day for students at Charles Carroll High School in Port Richmond. One female student decided that she would show her support for Republican presidential candidate a Mitt Romney by wearing a Romney t-shirt.

That’s when things turned ugly for her in the “Democratic school.”

The teacher allegedly told the girl to take off the shirt, saying it was like wearing a Ku Klux Klan sheet. The teacher allegedly threatened to use a marker to cross out Romney’s name and that of Rep. Paul Ryan, his running mate. The teacher also allegedly tried to throw the student out of class.

The teacher also allegedly said that Carroll was “a Democratic school.”[Emphasis added.]

Apparently, in the City of Brotherly Love, geometry teachers easily confuse this

With this…

The Inquirer reports that an investigation is going on.

Philadelphia School District spokesman Fernando Gallard confirmed that last Friday at Carroll, “a teacher made some comments to a student wearing a Romney t-shirt in their classroom. The comments were of a political nature, and also of a personal nature. We are looking into the comments, and the conduct of the teacher.”

It appears (based on a review of the school’s website) that the offending teacher is likely to be a male [see update below]. However, given that Philadelphia teachers are represented by the American Federation of Teachers, it is doubtful that anything more than a hand-slap will be issued to the teacher.

UPDATE: According to the New York Daily News, the teacher is identified by the victim as a woman (name unknown) and, for any lawyers wishing to do some pro bono work for the victim in this case, her name can be found here as well.

Additonally, here is video (via the NY Daily News):

Oh we wouldn’t want to teach the truth. Of course we have never gotten outside the box that is the school. It reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School telling the Econ professor he left a bunch of stuff out.

Sad to say, this teacher will be protected by the teachers union.

  • aZjimbo

And just what color is the teacher? Just curious.

  • RedStateVet

A “Democratic school”. This teacher need to be fired. I don’t care what it takes, the teachers union cannot protect this POS.

The rewritten history being taught in the pubic schools claims that the KKK was predominately Republican. They sight Indiana as an example. What they don’t tell you, is the Indiana Republicans involved at the time were [Get ready for it!] LIBERALS!

  • disqus_JjnwedKt6L

Also, the KKK was originally created to go against Catholics, not blacks (another fact lost in politically correct but factually incorrect history). Ryan’s a Catholic…

  • RAS0503

    I agree…

  • 4dees

Teachers should not be allowed to unionize. Are they there because they love our children and want them to learn, or are they there for their own self-interests?

  • dcnj

Teacher – is that what they call em… liberal zombies with no interest in anything other then themselves. Please get out and vote.

  • aposematic

Unfortunately, stuff like this is SOP in America’s “DemocRAT” schools.

Larry Mendte, a local host on WWIQ in Philadelphia, will be interviewing the student at 8:30 AM Eastern Time. Catch the stream at http://www.iq1069.com/. Unlike many inteviewers, Mendte is interested in getting at the truth on substantive issues.

  • bifatjac

Teachers, like all union workers, have the flexibility to be corrupt, lazy, cruel, and even predatory. We have to watch them closely for they may be wolves leading our lambs.

  • Ausonius

And the student’s ethnic background? Knowing the ethnicity of both student and teacher would be…really interesting! :)

In either case, what is frightening here is that we can probably safely bet that such a teacher is propagandizing the students to become goose-stepping MAObamabots.

  • gmhunt

If the student had worn an Obama shirt, she would have been praised.

  • streiff

not accurate. The original Klan was formed to try to offset the effects of Reconstruction and focused on keeping blacks subjugated, among other things. The modern Klan was hostile to Catholics, Jews, and foreigners as well as it’s opposition to desegregation and civil rights for blacks.

  • gingercake5

    Self interest.

  • CWinBaltimore

So, the teacher gets a slap on the wrist? Where are the attorneys on the RIGHT that’ll take a Pro-Bono case and slap a ten million dollar lawsuit against the teacher for a “civil rights violation” and the School district for not firing him? It’s high time we gave the Left a taste of their own medicine!

  • CWinBaltimore

the suit against the district could be settled out of court, (after all, the taxpayers would be on the hook for that) the personal suit against the teacher…. not so much!

  • MikeW

We’ve fallen to 33 or worse on the industrialized list and teachers are really concerned about t-shirts. Get ready, here we come number 50.

  • Huapakechi

Fire ‘em at cone 6 in a pottery kiln.

  • irishgirl

Inexcusable. If I were the parent, I would be lawyering up…..

  • mcbee555

I live in Phila., I have no children attending Phila. public schools. I pay the full public school tax in my real estate taxes. Phila. has over 45% of kids attending Catholic schools, their parents pay full school taxes to the public school system too. Whether one is a senior citizen or a parent paying to send children through Catholic schools or any other accredited private school system , they still pay the public school tax through the real estate taxes. That’s the Phila. tax picture.
As regards to the child wearing a Romney-Ryan tee-shirt, the school athorities demands are very believable. That is the way Phila. is, most of the public school teachers would reflect such an intolerant attitude. They are aggressively unionists and left-wing Democrats.
If the people of Phila. were tolerant, Romney-Ryan bumper stickers and lawn posters would be tolerated…they’re not! In 2008 I had a McCain-Palin bumper sticker on my car.The driver-side window glass was shattered while my car was legally parked. It is disgraceful. more often than not, police can’t stop it, it’s just Phila. at its worst.

  • Peter

They should be there for self interest and do the best job they can. Their best self interest is for the children in their class to excel. This IS the American way.

  • danclamage

I guess that student failed the indoctrination.

  • mytraintrax

It was also populated and run by mostly the democrats of the time.

  • 2warabnvet

The NEA (union) basically began to take over education in this country in 1966. The cost of education has skyrocketed, and the quality of learning has been going steadily downhill ever since.

  • spolson

That is why Tenure has got to go. It serves only to protect teachers from their own incompetence and criminal behavior. The students right to free speech was violated and the law should take care of this. Incarceration would take care of her behavior.

  • http://www.facebook.com/maxine.kreider1 Maxine Kreider

This teacher should be held accountable. A “democratic” school, hhhmmmm wonder if the Republican parents know this? I wish I could say this was a rarity but it is not. Teach your children to think and monitor what is going on in the public school systems. Of course the teacher should be reprimanded and a permanent notation placed in his/her record. Parents do not have to stand for this.

  • greywulf1064

HeII no, this would NOT happen here in Texas without a firestorm

  • toomuchsense

The teacher is right. You all just need to use your brain and not your emotions. That school, and 95% of all Public Schools are democrat. You may not like it. You may wish it away. But to be truthful, honest and correct. You must admit to yourself and others. That Public Schools are Democrat indoctrination sites. Run by unions, that care little about the children that attend. You can debate the last statemen of mine. But the facts are on my side. Look at the devaluation of the student acdemic scores. They down, down, going down futher. Look at the cost per student to indoctrinate. Going up, up, up.
If you love your kids or grandkids. Send them to a private school. The public school system in most cases is lost.

  • toomuchsense

More democrat office holders, both local and national that were KKK clan members than republicans over the last 100 years. Cry, call me names, lie, stomp your foot, cuss, hit the wall. But facts are on my side. It’s not even a close call. Heck, the democrats had one of the biggest KKK clan supporters that ever held the office of president, in Woodrow Wilson. Check it out. Call me names later. How about Racist Byrd the Grand Coogle in the KKK. How about President Clintons number 1, that’s right, NUMBER ONE mentor in life in Arkansas. Who was A BIG KKK CLAN LEADER, and a high ranking DEMOCRAT OFFICE HOLDER. Call me names, but prove me wrong. Do we need to go on? You name one Republican, and I’ll match you five bigoted racist Democrats that held office. Call me names. But prove me wrong. Can’t. Facts are facts.

  • http://www.plumbbobblog.com philwynk

Far too many of the leftist fools think they are on the side of the angels when they bully powerless students in this manner. This is not an isolated incident, and it is not just one idiot. Progressivism has this in its DNA — it leads people to become tyrants and bullies.

Progressivism is the rot at the heart of America, and America will not recover until we all have the sense to shun it when and where it appears.

  • justperhaps45

Note: The guys in KKK sheets were almost always Democrats. The Republicans were the deciding factor in passing the voting rights laws.
The minorities in this country seem to want to stay in the quarters on the liberal plantation. I guess it is easier to be provided for than to be responsible for yourself?
If you can blame someone else then it isn’t your fault. Right?

  • regmgr

A typical union thug. The oh so understanding liberal idealogy. Can anyone now understand why Public American Education is failing the nation. Obama has brought all this to a very troubling situation with his raced base policies.

Here is a video from 2009 from a NEA Conference (National Education Association). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwxiRXqH_hQ&feature=related.

Every student in Philly needs to wear a Romney Tee in support of this student’s I Amendment right.

    Interesting school website:
Our Vision: Charles Carroll High School is a progressive urban center for
    education where students:

    - are empowered to meet progressively more rigorous academic standards
    - recognize themselves as contributing members of their community
    - will become graduates of the post-secondary institution of their choice
    - are technologically competitive in a global society.
Seem pretty in-love with the term “progressive” (which we all is code-speak for a school of Democrats ;-) ).
So they are “empowered to meet progressively more rigorous academic standards” – clearly they get taught to be more like Debbie Wasserman-Schultz — a vision of rigorous brainwashing and rhetoric-spewing public service.
“Recognize themselves as contributing members of their community” — ah, preparation for that critical step toward the White House — community organizer!
“Will become graduates of the post-secondary institution of their choice” — strong AA department.
“Are technologically competitve in a global society” — ah, the wonders of a teleprompter.
Is this vision a carbon copy of our Organizer in Chief or what? ;-)

  • vandalii

Actually, the abuse of tenure has to go. In better times, tenure required a tenured teacher to adhere to a code of conduct that included things like repectful treatment of students and the like. Tenure could be pulled for malfeasance such as this once upon a time. As another has pointed out, the various teachers’ unions have bottled up the whole “behave like an educator” piece with lawyers, lawsuits, and general bullying of the union sort.

  • vandalii

One might also note that for a while there, the highest offices in the NEA were occupied, not by educators, but by sociologists. Maybe there’s a clue in there somewhere. Still seem to have some psychologists and sociologists helping to run the show (their Exec. Director’s degree type can’t be found, wonder what’s hiding in there…). Lots of “administration” experience on their board of directors, too. Just what we need for our children, more administrators…

  • mogul264

The ORIGINAL intent of the KKK was to force men — family deserters, drunks, etc — to take care of their own families! Like this horrible example, tenure has degenerated: KKK, into a white-led intolerant persecutor of Jews and black people; tenure, into a ‘safety net’ or cocoon protecting incompetent, deluded, drunken, and/or abusive teachers! And therefore, BOTH should be eliminated!

Some teacher threaten my kid/gr-kid over a Romney T-shirt’ they will get schooled in “Threats & Intimidation…”

  • scubadiver49er

And remember when Barry was first elected the school kids all over the country were singing “MM, MM, MM……….BHO”? I can’t even say his name it’s so repulsive because what he has done to this Country.

  • rg

    Fire the SOB.

  • DianeRN

This teacher should not be reprimanded, they should be FIRED. And the family should sue the school district and the teacher personally for violation of her first admendment rights. Other students rights were also violated through this teacher’s thug intimidation tactics. Someone with this lack of character and disregard for the free speech rights of others should NOT be teaching young people.

  • runner12

That teacher should be fired. If he is not, the parents have a moral duty to sue the school for every penny they are worth. What that teacher did was unconstitutional, not to mention deranged.

  • bigjack1

I’m afraid political correctness has raised its ugly head again at the cost of free speech. I’ll bet if a student came in with a Obama shirt on or ” I’m an atheist ” shirt on , it would be perfectly OK. This is what the left and socialists have done to America.

  • Yoshi

The KKK was the terrorist arm of the Democrat party. This ignorant teacher is teaching intolerance and racism.

The media is making it so bad thats NOT what happened !!

I want the names of the teacher, principal and the school district superintendent as well as their phone numbers. Time to start a massive phone blitz and get this racist teacher (and all those like her) the hell out of the classroom.

“Today children we are going to learn about the First Amendment of the US Constitution….oh, well, let’s skip that part, it’s not really that important. Let’s move on. It’s time to sing our daily tribute to the Dear Leader…Barack Hussein Obama,mm,mm,mm. Sing it with me kids!”

Sounds like an extreme case of “Bullying” to me! Aren’t there suppose to be strong rules against that, by both teachers and students. BIG BAD!

  • littledon

This teacher needs to be Fired, just like any Child Abuser! Fire that Teacher! They have no right to teach anybody! They want to teach go to the middle east!
    God Bless America!!!!

  • ROHBAR

Another act of bulling and the Department of Education has a commercial paid by the taxpayers most likely, saying that it is against bulling and parents need to make their children understand that bulling is not right. Guess what Department of Education do something about your john dewey marxist leaning public schools teachers who have no respect for FREE SPEECH especially when it comes to conservative issues!

  • bk

I’m surprised this teacher can stomach working at a school named after one of the original tea-party types.
