FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

We won the debate; now, let’s move on to the next thing.

So, I had the opportunity to talk with Senator Marco Rubio last night, and ask him a question.  I’ll spare you the verbal tics and whatnot: what I asked Rubio, effectively, was “What advice did the Romney campaign take heed off, out of all of New Media’s unsolicited offerings along those lines?”  This is how Rubio responded:

Rubio 10/03/2012

The funny part was: at the time, I didn’t think that Senator Rubio had actually answered the question*.  But that’s because I had asked the question before the debate.  It was fairly clear last night that Romney had taken to heart the fundamental realization of most of us: Barack Obama ain’t so tough.  He is a little too ready to believe his own hype, doesn’t realize in his bones just how much he’s carried by others, and has an overrated sense of his personal skills and core competencies.  Mitt Romney exploited that from the start last night, and made the clear distinction between him and his opponent that the Senator talks about above and we all wanted Romney to make.

Which is great.  But it’s a start.  Have your warm, fuzzy feeling this morning, sure – then start thinking about how we can take away more from the Democrats.  And then start doing it, too.  We will not be able to coast to the election on the basis of this one primary, and winning elections is a team sport.  Fortunately, Mitt Romney gave us some good stuff to work with, last night.

PS Erick is right: put your money where your mouth is.  I just did.

*This did not particularly bother me. Questions and answers in this business is often a cat-and-mouse game where neither side is ever really sure which one is the cat.

Thanks for the link, Moe. Just sent a contribution. Let’s roll!

I’m guessing Obama won’t be looking forward to discussing foreign policy or anything else any time soon.

    Just chipped in (thanks, Moe).

My basic take: natural vs. unnatural.

Romney should cream him again in the town hall debate, where the questions will come mainly from so-called undecided voters chosen by Gallup. Obama is terrible on his feet. Romney is competent and at ease.

My first ever political donation will be going to Romney today. What an inspiring performance last night!

  • MikeW

Yep. Historically, Obama without a teleprompter is bad news for liberals.

  • fightnright

Money out from the fightnright’s account transmogrified into more power and influence for the Romney campaign. Thanks for the reminder.

‘We won the debate’ is being dutifully challenged by stunned cheerleaders in the MSM this afternoon. My local radio station is broadcasting as its headline story ‘New Yorkers are asking themselves this morning which candidate was the winner in last night’s debate. Many voters aren’t at all sure.’

Dinna think that’ll work, ye loyal lads and lassies…. just a glance at the faces of ~so many happy Republicans~ today tells anyone the true news story.

Was very elated with Mitt Romney last night and initially focused on the broad range of issues presented. Then, I began wondering, like everyone else, how the Romney Camp could translate the new momentum into new support. And there is one particular tactical move that could be key.
Mitt Romney was not just sharp and precise and knowledgeable in the debate. He came across as an honest man, a very decent man. Very soon, he needs to have a conversation with Latino-Americans and he needs to bring up Fast and Furious. His message should be straightforward: “I am not the kind of man who could sit by and watch thousands of assault weapons dumped on our innocent neighbors in Mexico”. Focusing on the insensitivity and insult done to Latinos (would Obama and Holder have ever countenanced a weapons dump into Chicago?) could swing another ten per cent of the Latino vote toward the GOP in the final weeks. That ten per cent would be decisive.

I am really loving this “Mr President, you’re not doing your job.” meme! I sincerely hope it continues from now until Nov. 6!

My husband has not been too keen on Romney being the nominee, but he sent in money (admittedly, not a lot as we are living on a very tight minuscule missionary budget), so that performance was outstanding enough to get him off the fence.

My retired dad is a New Yorker. I spoke to him earlier this afternoon about the debate. He was positive that Romney clobbered Obama totally.

I was on the call too and posted the entire audio here: http://www.sunshinestatesarah.com/2012/10/pre-debate-blogger-call-with-marco.html

With all the dirty tricks in the book young lady.

Have the Democrats already shifted gears?
By increasing the money going into the Senate and Congressional races?

Knowing that their guy at 1600 is gone.

Saban’s 24 hour rule is now in effect. FOllow it.

As you say – it’s a start. I’ll take a Romney win, sure, but the bigger the win, the greater the gain. For example, we also need to take the Senate, and then some: 51 Senators may be enough to repeal Obamacare but may not be enough to confirm the next Clarence Thomas.

If we can completely repudiate the Obama agenda, perhaps future Democrats will behave less insanely when the wheel turns and they taste power again – hopefully not for a long time. And maybe more Republicans won’t be so afraid to assert their conservatism.

That’s how you repeat one great performance with another and win Championships. Did Romney have Saban and the Alabama staff help him prepare? Saban probably wants to visit someone else after the next one.

yet the top and bottom of the hour radio reports went on and on most of the day with that lede… They included at least 3 sound bites with ‘man on the street’ debate opinions, by some coincidence ~all~ disapproved of Romney’s performance and thought BHO made the better case for his election.
