‘Shell-shocked’ team Obama whines and plays a blame game over debate loss

Shell-shocked by Governor Romney’s terrific debate performance, especially juxtaposed to President Obama’s lackadaisical performance in front of a television audience of  about 67.5 million, team Obama is flailing around whining and pointing fingers of blame at each other.

Failing to convince any fair-minded person that Obama lost the debate because, as the Obama campaign continues to falsely claim, Romney lied; that the mile high altitude, which didn’t bother Obama during his TelePrompted infamous Greek Column speech, was the reason for Obama’s drubbing; or that it was because of something the moderator, Jim Lehrer, did or didn’t do — the Obama team has moved to blaming each other.

At Breitbart, Alexander Marlow reports that Obama’s team is so distraught over Obama’s debate shellacking they are throwing Senator John Kerry under the bus. They blame Secretary of State wannabe Kerry for being too diplomatic while playing Romney during Obama’s debate practice.

Marlow quotes Norah O’Donnell and Bill Plante from CBS’s “This Morning”:

Norah O’Donnell: “Some Democrats say [Obama's] campaign needs a wake-up call.  Bill Plante is here with that part of the story.  Bill, you’ve been talking to your sources; what are they saying?

Correspondent Bill Plante: “Well Norah, they’re simply upset and really outraged. They blame the President’s team, first of all, for not preparing him to meet the challenge of an aggressive Mitt Romney. They say that nobody in the room challenged him, including the guy that he was debating with, John Kerry, because, as they say, he wants to be Secretary of State so he’s not going to get in the President’s face. And Presidents are used to deference; they’re not used to people challenging them like that. So they think that the debate prep was terrible, but they also fault the President himself for not understanding that Romney was going to be more aggressive.”

It is peculiar to see the Obama campaign blaming John Kerry for Romney cleaning Obama’s debate clock, especially in light of the fact the President’s deputy campaign manager and sometimes spokesperson, Stephanie Cutter, was communications director for  Kerry’s failed presidential campaign when it melted down in 2004. I remember article after article blaming Cutter for the Kerry’s loss. Is team Obama pointing the finger at the wrong person to be the next victim under the Obama bus.?

At The Daily Beast, James Warren quotes William Daley as admitting that Romney’s “extremely good night” is a “big advantage.” Warren also credits Obama campaign aides with using the term ‘shell-shocked’  to describe the Obama campaign’s reaction to the debate:

At least two current Obama campaign aides were more blunt than Daley and used the term “shell-shocked” over the Obama performance. There were various analyses of what went wrong, including finger-pointing at debate preparations. Those included claims that Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, who played the role of Romney in mock debates, probably wasn’t tough and aggressive enough. (“He does, after all, want to be Secretary of State,” claimed one aide.)

So much for the formerly much ballyhooed nonchalant and diffident “No Drama Obama.” I guess that was too much of what was obviously incorrectly perceived to be a good thing.

Meanwhile, in an effort to recover ground lost by Romney’s debate take down of Obama, Senior Strategist for Obama’s re-election campaign, David Axelrod, is taking over the debate preparation for Vice President Biden for the debate this Thursday with Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan. Axelrod’s takeover is already raising expectations for a great debate performance from Biden who wasn’t able to win the 2008 vice presidential debate Sarah Palin.

Romney said it best during the debate, “Isn’t this fun!”. We were having fun..watching MSNBC’s liberal heads explode. We’ve been having fun all week. The liberals are still crying and gnashing of teeth. The best part is we get 3 more weeks of this fun and then more for the next eight years while the MSNBC liberal heads try to pick up the pieces and stitch themselves together again…Their logic is now broken. They keep saying it can’t be true..someone must be lying. They thought Obama was the one. The Romney Robot broke their internal circuit boards and they can’t figure it out the truth which is conservative principles are the best thing for America and the World, and we really do care about all Americans even the illogical liberal robots who think Obama was right to make out in public with the big banks and give back campaign money in the form of our tax money to those too big to fail banks while bankrupting the small banks all across America. We conservatives just want fairness and fairness is not what we have in the WH.

I remember when Redstate really liked and supported Rick Perry for President. When Obama looked worse than Perry’s worse performance, the liberals started whining. I didn’t see Redstate whining trying to say Romney must have cheated or lied like the liberals are. I give kudos for Redstate to man up and realize that Romney would be the better leader of the Free World and Obama keep his promise as a one term President. If Obama and his followers didn’t just care about themselves, they would have packed up a long time ago and let Mitt fix it.

Clint Eastwood was right all along even if the liberals don’t want to admit it. Obama is the empty chair.

  • arbitrage789

I agree with what you wrote, except that the phrase “the one” should instead be “The One”.

Obama deserves nothing less, don’t you think?

  • renl57

No, but you do see some disgruntled RedStaters claiming that some “GOP elites” forced Romney on us. (Ignoring the fact that, as you say, his opponents self-destructed or–in the case of Pawlenty–just folded.)

  • missliberties

Ask Ron Paul. Romney declared victory in the Iowa primaries even though Ron Paul won.

Romney pays dirty, but I supposed Republicans at RedState just find that adorable now.

    BBQ chicken anyone?

  • missliberties

That’s a real nice picture. Um mmm mmm

  • runner12

Nice try at being a concern troll, but mentioning the Tea Party and then subsequently repeating the Left’s “Romney lies!” meme kinda gave you away.

  • missliberties

Call me a troll. It won’t hurt my feelings.

No question Romney is a liar.

He was pro-life in Utah, and pro-choice in Mass., trying to decide which state to be Gov. of.

He IS the godfather of Obamacare, which he stated he likes parts of, such as the pre-existing conditions.

He was severely conservative before he etch-a-sketched his white board clean to throw the tea party under the bus.

How do you like being used, because Mittens thinks you are stupid.

  • missliberties

    boyz will be boyz

just ask mittens how many times his boyz lied to him at the dinner table

  • streiff

I’m not calling you a troll… though you are… I’m calling you gone. We’ve banned Paultards for four years. Even if you weren’t a Paultard this kind of nonsense has been out of bounds since the primaries ended.

There was a time when the guy who blamed everyone but himself was the first to go..but now what we have is a population of people willing to vote for this pathetic example of leadership//..I guess people who have so little pride as to vote for someone willing to spend their children’s future and for free stuff over freedom…will see the hard way what this sad example will buy them in the end..

  • septembergurl

    Sigh.
First of all, Iowa does not hold “primaries.” It’s a caucus.
Secondly, the Iowa caucus was won by Rick Santorum, not Ron Paul.
Other than that, your post is, well, moronic. We used to get a better class of troll here.

There’s actually something to this. I spoke to a successful business owner who told me that Obama’s main leadership problem is that he seems to be intimidated by anyone he perceives to be smarter or stronger than he is. Though he promised a “team of rivals,” it never materialized. A good leader, in contrast, recognizes he’s not always the smartest person in the room and is willing to draw on the expertise and strength of others. He’s confident enough in his own leadership and abilities that he’s not intimidated by others who know more. Obama surrounds himself with flunkies who bow and cower at his feet.

for one:If you are a Ron Paul supporter,i’ll say this:GET OVER IT
ALREADY!.He didnt win the nomination,Romney did.So you can go ahead and
vote for Gary Johnson, who has no chance in hell of winning ,and give
Obama one less vote he has to worry about .two:You are a Leftist Obama
supporter upset he was creamed by Romney. And glass house rules apply
when you mention accuse Romney of lying, but not Obama.Romney was never
my first choice,Ron Paul was my choice also. But I did say along time ago
that I will throw 100% SUPPORT behind whoever won the nomination, and
that person is Mitt Romney. Is he perfect? No
But he is 100000000000000000000000000x much better than the American
hating Marxist we have in office today. And I know he loves this
country. So,you can do what I,also a RP supporter did ,and WISE UP and
recognize the damage 4 more years of Obama will do and get with us,OR
you can go ahead and vote 3rd party.Just don’t complain about 4 more
years of O if it happens. As for me,and others,I do NOT Want 4 more years of Obama’s destruction. If gave you a crap about this country, you would stop being a Paulbot,or Obama sheep, whatever you are and do what is RIGHT !Get over the fact your person did not win the nomination and lets get this country fixed before Obama turns us into Greece.

bluebird, this isn’t so much a “story about the debate”. This is more a story about the reactions re: the debate from the Obama camp. When members of the camp go to various television reporters feigning outrage and blaming everything but a herd of turtles on Obama’s performance, then yeah this is like an aggregate story. Someone, in this case DS, has gone to several different sources, encapsulated them for us, and we can further delve into whichever part we like by linking back. Think of it as a collage. (man I wish acat were here for days like this)

70 million Americans got to see the Real Romney and the Real Obama for 90 full minutes on Wed night. Gov Romney looked more than ready to be President and had a PLAN to repair the damage to our nation fo the last 4 years and bring back GROWTH and JOBS. Obama showed he had no real answer to 4 years of failure, and certainly NO PLAN for 4 more years. Just More DEBT and More Misery! Today Gallup told us that of the 70 million Americans who saw the debate 72% think Gov Romney won overwhelmingly. 20% Obama. The most historic blowout in all of Presidential Debate History. Now we are hearing the whining, blaming, and excuses coming from the Obama campaign and the left. Here is some of the nonsense. 1. Gov Romney lied – The Obama campaign and the freaked out left. 2. Obama’s brain was Oxygen deprived in Denver – Al Gore. 3. Obama spent my million dollars on pot and was high – Bill Maher Take you’re pick they are all absurd. Obama really thinks he can recover by getting into the sewer again? Today we had the first poll out after the debate with Pew Research. Romney 49% to Obama 45%. A 4 point Romney lead among likely voters. The last Pew poll had Obama ahead 51 to 43. So this is a HUGE 12 point swing in Gov Romney’s favor. The American people saw reality on Wed night and found Obama unfit to be President. “When someone doesn’t do the job you gotta let them go”!
