Todd Akin Can Win. The NRSC Will Cut Off Its Nose to Spite Its Face in Missouri.

In 2010, the National Republican Senatorial Committee spent a great deal of time and energy portraying conservatives as the reason the GOP did not take back the Senate. They blamed Jim DeMint for Sharon Angle’s win, though he chose not to supporter her in the primary. They blamed Jim DeMint and Sarah Palin for Christine O’Donnell’s win, though they endorsed a week before the primary when she was already ahead by double digits. They blamed Jim DeMint and conservatives for Ken Buck in Colorado, though Buck won independents by 18% and suffered through a disastrous state Republican party mess to get there.

It’s worth remembering too that the NRSC spent money in Colorado attacking Ken Buck and then couldn’t help him across the finish line as the nominee because . . .well . . . they’d spent their independent expenditure budget attacking him. So they did the logical thing — they abandoned a bunch of potential rising stars and went all in with Carly Fiorina who, after having run a money losing bid for the Senate got to be co-chair something or other at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Yes, the NRSC is an expert on how to lose.

This year, the NRSC will have only itself to blame again, but this time really without any conservatives to pin the blame on. Tommy Thompson is flailing about in Wisconsin as the senile old grandfather with his various assorted women issues. The Florida nomination pick was pitiful. George Allen is performing as everyone outside the establishment expected he would in Virginia. Then there is Todd Akin in Missouri.

The contrast is staggering. Tommy Thompson in Wisconsin is getting NRSC dollars after campaigning to end the filibuster and Todd Akin? Nothing.

So offensive were his comments, supposedly, that the NRSC decided to avoid him like the plague.

On October 5, 2012, news broke that five companies in Missouri tied directed to Claire McCaskill received more than $1 million in stimulus funds. The NRSC sent out its morning reads of stories to focus on that day and never mentioned it. John Cornyn, head of the NRSC, has repeatedly said Missouri is off the table for the NRSC. The NRSC makes as much eye contact with Missouri as Barack Obama did with Mitt Romney in the first debate.

It’s true that Todd Akin has Joe Biden disease, but Todd Akin can still win. Claire McCaskill is not popular in Missouri. Polls remain close.

The NRSC was perfectly happy to throw conservatives under the bus in 2010. This time, it’ll be the NRSC’s suicide. Good riddance, I guess. But we’ll lose the Senate again because of the NRSC.

You can support Todd Akin here.

  • PowerToThePeople

Give it a rest Jim, your pious BS stinks. Idiots, yourself included, have acted as if the words that came out of Akin’s mouth were racist, treasonous, not just poorly spoken. Your little “no comparison” comment prior to the Sandusky comments really shows your ignorance. And the little effort you made into making a disclaimer does not negate the clear attempt you made to make a comparison.

If Akin loses and the country gets the extreme liberal instead, I hope you pious idiots pay the price.

  • PowerToThePeople

What is your idea of an apology? Does he have to get into sackcloth, get on his knees, and kiss each and every ass in America? Must be since this is just a small piece of one of his many explanations and apologies, seems to be a pretty good one to me…

“”I don’t know that I’m the only person in public office who suffered
from foot in mouth disease here,” he said. “This was a very, very
    serious error.”"

  • Viet71

Just chipped in $100 for Akin. I have to believe he’d be a better senator than his opponent.

  • Locked and Loaded

I guess when you consider some of the options, e.g., Castle, Bennett, Murkowski, Specter, Snowe, Collins … “Senate control” takes on a whole new meaning.

  • kcdude

I question your thought process. You seem to think it is okay to bury Akin for his original statement but give him no credit for admitting he was wrong and then further explaining his heart (thought process).

  • fightnright

“Erick’s headline suggests that we should vote for Jerry Sandusky if he was running AND was conservative”

I don’t see that in Erick’s headline at all. Not to take up for Akins here, but equating the heinous activities of a serial child sex offender to someone who probably was exposed in college to theories like the H.M. (Hilda) Bruce effect of pregnancy blockage in the ‘strange mouse’ experiment and mentions that, is morally, intellectually, and philosophically bankrupt.

I know that the phrase ‘legitimate rape’ was widely deplored as Akin’s more grievous rhetorical misstep, but there are cases of rape victims recanting their testimony, leading to the alleged rapist’s release, and it is to those cases I think Akin actually meant to refer.

But a reference – even the most poorly informed, badly articulated statement – can never be considered equivalent to the crime of multiple rape.

  • neiman1

The reason the NRCC cannot send Todd money is the effect it could have in other states. The backlash of Todd’s stupid statement could easily cost us Mass. Ohio, Montana, and North Dakota.

It is up to conservatives to fund Todd on their own. The Party has to avoid him and then cross their fingers and pray he wins. It’s up to us to fund Todd. Winning Missouri and losing 3 or 4 other states does us no good.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

We’ll never know whether it was McCaskill, Romney or Akin’s voting record that saved him; but a certain rooster predicted this only hours after the rest of the conservative blogosphere buried him…http://www.redstate.com/gamecock/2012/08/31/akin-breakin-hearts-of-media-pilers-on/

  • Bill S

That’s right up there with one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever seen here, and that’s saying a lot. To equate an uneducated statement with a pedophile is disgusting. I wouldn’t repeat that trick.

  • Bill S

Seriously? Biden has said numerous things that are stupid, uneducated and condescending to a number of groups. He’s still VP and he’s still on the Dem ticket. Try again, pal.

  • Bill S

You seem to have more intimate knowledge than I do, since you just put words in his mouth. I happen to know the guy’s family and his church background and I am quite certain about the sincerity of his conservative beliefs and where he’s coming from.

Not that I really care about what you think about any of this, since your stupidity is about to disqualify you from commenting here.

  • Bill S

Your mistake is in attributing “thought” to his comment.

  • http://www.bohnetlaw.com rightappeal

Every senate seat is important. It isn’t just control of the Senate that is at stake, it is also about how many Dems will be needed to get things passed. And also how much of a cushion there will be for control going into the 2014 and 2016 elections. Winnable seats like this one must be won.

  • Freedomswatch

The important choice here, is whether you will vote for the person who will vote to uphold your right to freedom of speech, or the person who will vote to crush speech they don’t agree with. The choice is clear, the balance of the Senate and the Presidential race is at play. You don’t have to like Akins words to vote Republican. Which candidate is more likely to take away your freedom of speech, freedom to assemble, right to bear arms and economic freedom? Staying at home is a vote for Mc Caskill.

  • votemout2012

I wish it would not have taken Mr. Erickson so long to get behind Akin. People of MO ARE behind Akin. To bad NRSC doesn’t want to win in MO. Akin is in it to win it!

  • kcdude

I’ll stand by my comment. Wrong thinking / bad thought happens all the time. I make a distinction between thought and wisdom.

  • votemout2012

Look at his voting record in congress. That should tell you everything you need to know about his “thought process” He votes for conservative values and will be one hell of an improvement over McCaskill!

  • Melody Warbington

I can forgive a poorly worded statement a lot easier than crappy votes, and there are plenty of those in the Senate. The names Locked and Loaded threw out below come to mind, plus Alexander, Isakson, Graham, McCain…

  • votemout2012

Romney is up by 5-7 in MO and that is not going to change. Remember MO went for pitiful McCain in 2008 they won’t be going for Obama now jeez. Akin could have over come this gaffe easily if the Republicans had not added to the pile on.

  • NotPropagandized

If it ain’t the candidate or a credible Tea Party type organization, it does NOT a contribution get. When / if Republican Party is taken over by constitutionalist conservatives, then might consider sharing meager givings.
Todd ticked me off big time. Still hot about it and his tendencies are the same. But when it comes to the Damnocrats, the withhold principle is withheld. Send ‘im money.

  • gscandlen

Nonsense. If Castle couldn’t win the primary, how would he have won the general?

  • Bill S

Sorry, I was referring to bluebird69, not Akin. I think I misread your comment initially. Carry on…

  • freemkts

Akin still doesn’t deserve party support. If he wins Akin will be a huge pain in the a** for years to come, think John Ensign or Larry Craig. If not some scandal like that Akin will go on Meet the Press and say slavery was good for black people like some idiot in Arkansas did the other day http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/10/06/arkansas-gop-calls-candidates-slavery-statements-offensive/. The possibilities are limitless with this guy. I don’t like throwing a seat away, but one of these days we have to learn to quit nominating foolish candidates. People like Akin and Sharron Angle run for office because someone convinces them they can win. We need to put our foot down and say “No you can’t!”

  • Bill S

    Exactly.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

    Gamecock mega-dittos Bill.

  • Bill S

It takes some pretty warped logic to think that a US Senate race is going to shape the vote for President. There is no freaking way that Akin’s comments were ever going to sway things for Obama. That’s just stupid. I drive all over the state (my relatives/kids live in various corners of the state), and there are Akin and Romney signs everywhere. Voters are not stupid. They know that every person/candidate is different. Republican voters are NOT going to blame Mitt Romney for a misstatement by Todd Akin. They know what a disaster Obama has been. Akin changes nothing.

  • streiff

that is just a dumb and self defeating attitude in politics. Nothing that Akin said is anywhere near as offensive as the way McCaskill voted.

  • kcdude

My problem is with someone who questions Akin’s thought process when the man clearly stated he was wrong and went one to express his heart in a manner that I can appreciate. I responded to a comment from someone who is ready to dismiss a candidate for making a dumb remark and then not take into account that same person’s willingness to admit the error and ask forgiveness. When I lived in kc I voted against Claire. I wish I were there to vote against her once more.

  • Bill S

This threading sucks. It’s almost impossible to tell who’s responding to who after about 3 levels of nesting.

  • Bill S

You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. Akin has been my rep for years and he’s represented his district effectively and has been a consistent conservative vote in the House. Don’t spout off about something on which you are clueless.

  • BeyondPolls

Romney and Ryan can just ‘not enforce it’ no matter what while they work on a bipartisan replacement.

  • BeyondPolls

When we win control of the Senate this time, we could be looking at a super majority following 2014.

  • BeyondPolls

RCP weights NJ as their most credible poll, and they’re left-leaning. Besides, only 9% of people respond to polls these days. Hence my username, lol.

  • michael_j_lambert

Hence “If [not saying stupid stuff] were the bar to get in the senate, Joe Biden would have been kicked out years ago.”

  • PowerToThePeople

Damnations the stupid never stops. Are you really trying to compare a comment that was based on pure convictions, was meant well, but was poorly worded to two guys that resigned based on extramarital infidelity and illegal homosexual behavior? Really?

Then you go on to compare his comment to some racist comment made by a moron? Really?

And we wonder why the democrats never fear us, never worry that we will run this country for 50 years based on the fact our policies represent a majority of the country, they know we have way too much stupid on our side and you proved their point.

  • PowerToThePeople

Nice Viet, I and my wife both joined you in supporting Akin.

  • http://www.erickerickson.org Erick Erickson

This is a comment to be had in the primaries. In the generally, it is bullcrap. We support him over the person who voted for Obamacare and for the stimulus.

  • michael_j_lambert

If that was the text of his apology, then I have been making a greivous error for the last however many weeks. I remember seeing a “text” of his statement at the time, and being unimpressed. Either I only found edited remarks designed to make him look like an idiot, or I am an idiot, or he released further apologies later. I suspect all three.

  • Jamo11

How is what Akin said as disgraceful as saying “an unborn child isn’t a human being”? But that remark goes unassailed. I blame Carl Rove and his ilk. I don’t know why Romney and Ryan turned on Akin, but I like Akin better than either of them.

  • streiff

don’t blame people unless you can spell their name correctly.

  • Danielle5

I tend to agree with this. As despicable as the NRCC can be, it is too risky to other winnable races to support Akin. It’s up to conservatives to drag him across the finish line, and I believe they will

  • JoshINHB

Yep, If Romney wins the Senate goes republican by a healthy margin.

  • Common_Cents

how dare you write those before better polling today! EE wrote on Aug 21 to Akin to step down. Now he’s for him? Which is it?

the only thing Republicans had to do were to say, “they are unfortunate comments that I disagree with, but the disastrous McCaskill/obama……..” boom, easy. But no, the RINOs had to be scared of the media once again and go run hide in the corner.

  • freemkts

“Then you go on to compare his comment to some racist comment made by a moron? Really?”

Well Akin is as big a moron as anyone so I wouldn’t put anything past him. And I don’t see you defending the idiot from Arkansas for making a comment based on pure convictions. Since when does the sincerity of someone’s comments make the content acceptable? If he wins Akin will have a blank check for 6 years and he’ll get his money’s worth even if it makes the rest of the party cringe everyday.

  • streiff

and Claire McCaskill is a better choice? You know at one time we banned people for being stupid. Thank your luck stars that we don’t do that anymore.

  • freemkts

No I don’t like McCaskill either. I just think we should throw our support behind Republicans in other states. Why is Richard Murdouck in a tight race? Why is the race in ND close? Why are there no calls for people to give money to Scott Brown in MA, who is running against a freaking communist?????? Todd Akin is a neanderthal who should just go back to the rock he crawled out from under.

  • PowerToThePeople

You really are one dumb, well you know the rest. Even though it is a waste of time, going to try to show you the error of your way.

The comment made by Akin was not racist, hateful, harmful, and not completely wrong. With a few different words, the comment is right on. But setting all that aside, the Akin comment was nothing more than poor choice of words.

On the other hand, racism is stupid, ignorant, hurtful, harmful, and demonstrates a small mind.

So to sum it all up, once again your comparison of the Akin comment to an idiot who made a racist comment really shows why fools should be kept away from computers. It also shows just how much of a moron you are.

And what Streiff said, fits as well/

  • Dave_A

    I would hope you’re right…

I tend to be a bit pessimistic on the intelligence of the average voter, though…

  • Dave_A

The same way Ron Paul loses all the primaries but somehow manages to get his people into so many of the delegations….

She won the primary because the ‘Ideology first, damn electability’ faction was motivated to go vote in the primary…

In a leftie state like Delaware, those people are not the ones who get you into the US Senate. They’re the afterthought-voters who will vote for you anyway because there’s no better choice…

  • Dave_A

So you’d rather have it run by Harry Ried?

Senate control is about leadership… And while DeMint may never find himself majority leader, I’d take McConnell over Ried any day….

  • Dave_A

I am more concerned with who runs the chamber, and the impact it has on the overall discourse… Situations like the budget/debt fight this summer are easier when it’s a unified house/senate front against the President, rather than ‘Just the House’ against the President AND Senate…

  • Bill S

    Exceptions can be made.

  • Viet71

    pttp,

Thank you for your cordial message and congrats to you and spouse.

Something about your message is lacking, though.

Like the traditional, you’re stupid, etc.

Don’t get me wrong. I always read your posts. And watch how you subdue others here. There is something about that. But you’re far too brutal most times.

  • dbecraft

Agree! When this all occurred and the NRSC threw him under their bus, I also stated the obvious. Our party is all about winning (obviously MSM instigated) instead of supporting morally decent folks running for office. Way too many Republicans run for the hills when the MSM does their thing.

And yes, I blame RedState also, if the founders say jump, all of the followers tend to jump also.

  • dbecraft

Yes, I agree… Lets just get winnable candidates into office! Who cares what they believe or what kind of person they are – after all, winning is the goal!

    /SAR

  • Melody Warbington

I prefer Akin’s voting record in the House to my rep’s (Bachus-AL6) who makes me cringe every day.

  • dbecraft

Akin may not deserve party support but he does deserve support from decent Americans. The difference is between night and day and gaining breadth as time goes on (unfortunately).

  • Viet71

    Agree.

  • dbecraft

Not the rest of conservative blogosphere…wrong, it was the political arm of the Republican party that attempted to bury him! The blogosphere (well most) only followed along – a real problem. That really means that the conservative blogosphere does not really exist, only the the political blogosphere.

We still have the conservatives that do look at NRCC as just a much of an enemy as the Democrats (at least at times). They do tend to shoot themselves often.

By the way, good piece that you wrote… At least you understood the pattern of the NRCC and their distructive ways.

  • Viet71

    streiff,

    I’m a what, an educated mid-westerner.

    I’d give Jamo11 a pass. Just me.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

    Point taken, and thx.

  • dbecraft

Seems that your foresight is far better than some of the other RedState founders! Maybe you should ask for a raise…heh.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

I actually did one time and it didn’t go over well at all. I remain a “mere diarist”!

  • Bill S

I think those of us who tend to pay a lot of attention to politics think that everyone else does, too. I believe the normal voter’s thought processes are pretty simple: I vote for the guy who I think will benefit me and against the one who will not. Outside the ideological Left, Obama’s reputation is awful and at least right now the indies are substantially swung towards Romney.

The underlying logic behind Romney’s 47% comment is/was pretty sound: the folks who survive on government handouts will vote for the person who supports the handouts BUT they will also support (the important part) the one who they think will help them continue to receive those handouts. In order for handouts to continue, the economy must be sound and the government must be solvent. This is a key reason why seniors tend to support Romney: they think he will keep the payments flowing by preventing the whole system from taking a crap. (Of course the other reason is that most seniors tend to be social conservatives, and Obama is NOT).

The other factor in Missouri is that, outside the metro STL and KC areas, the bulk of the state is rural and working class – another characteristic that leads to voting for the conservative Republican. And the urban population has not outgrown the rural areas. This is what brought McCain the state in 2008. And it will deliver it for Romney in 2012.

  • streiff

Seriously, Mike. This leads us back to various periods in the Vassar Bushmills era of RedState when we had a small group of diarists who were convinced that the front pagers just hung out and stole ideas. Truth: I don’t read the diaries very much. I develop my own stories from AP and Google news feeds or from discussions with colleagues/friends and I moderate comments. Most of us work the same way. I only notice a diary when it gets a lot of trolling or when someone says I should look at it.

  • dbecraft

Disgusting and unnecessary remark Steiff… You should be ashamed. If you actually have a complaint about his statement, say it, without being an….!

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

I wanted to hang out on the front page before that era! Truth: I have loved Redstate for many reasons throughout all its eras, both the front page and the diaries, and presently. My better work also seems to emerge more often when I follow some advice given to me when I met Ann Coulter in Charlotte several years ago that mirrors your modus operandi, ie don’t read everyone else’s take on events before you write your own.

  • PowerToThePeople

If you find that comment to be disgusting, unnecessary, and one that makes Streiff an ass, then I must assume you have led a very sheltered life, need to get out more, and should plan on sticking to kiddie sites in the future.

  • dbecraft

Oh great! Now the only Conservative I actually respect has to come in and defend steiff…geez. Come on steiff does have to explain his complaint, not just his complaint about spelling. Yes, I like steiff also, but that does not explain his arrogant comment without explaining his disagreement. He needs to do better.

Are you really going to be that picky? Do you actually think that his statement has any factual disagreement with Jamo11 or was it just a high school teacher scolding his student for spelling?

Come on folks, either state your disagreements or don’t make them.

  • PowerToThePeople

Not sure what prompted you to pull out the pulpit, but I save those type of messages for the deserving, the ignorant, and the left. Since you have yet to fit into any of those categories, I have not needed to use it.But do not worry, I believe that one day, through the collective efforts of the mod staff, IQ requirements will be established and trolls, leftist, and idiots will be permanently gone from the site, then there will be no further need for my “subduing.”

But I must say, if you read all my posts, I must serve a purpose and I am assuming that purpose is entertainment. Donations are accepted:)

  • streiff

Karl his name is Karl. If you can’t spell the guy’s name don’t criticize him because it demonstrates you don’t know enough about the man to make a comment. You don’t like it, fine don’t like it. And in case you haven’t noticed it, running for Mr Congeniality is not one of my life goals.

  • chipbennett

Akin’s stupid comments are FAR better than McCaskill’s VILE voting record.

And I really wish anyone who doesn’t have to be “represented” by ClaireBear would kindly BUTT OUT of our Senate race.

  • PowerToThePeople

    His name is Streiff.

  • chipbennett

Oh, Barbra Streisand. Akin has apologized six ways from Sunday. If you couldn’t find his apology, I must conclude that you simply didn’t look for it.

  • streiff

are you trying to be ironic… or did you just spell my name wrong three times.

  • chipbennett

Akin’s ultimate point was that it is not morally right to murder an innocent unborn child because of the sin of the baby’s father, even if that baby’s father was a rapist.

  • dbecraft

Well, spelling seems to be the key here rather than content so I bow out…

  • chipbennett

    Too true.

Personally, I think “punished with a baby” is FAR more “vile” than anything Akin has said.

  • chipbennett

…and we Missourians are still stuck being represented by Obama Lapdog McCaskill.

I will NEVER give any money to an establishment Republican organization. I will only donate directly to candidates.

  • chipbennett

Supporting Akin would cause backlash that would risk races in 3-4 other states?

    Hogwash.

That’s nothing more than an establishment GOP scare tactic.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

‘craft(y?), you made my day re conservative respect, but what makes you think GC “likes” streiff! Egad! But hey, after 5+ years of complaining about quick blam sticks, one of the Powers That Be finally replied to me directly with a cogent and almost persuasive argument. We follow the facts here at DeVine-Gamecock Central. Plus, I think streiff’s reply to the anti-K ’11 was, in fact, a joke.

  • chipbennett

I am also a proud, former Akin constituent. I’ll take his stupid comment over the representation I now get from Lacy Clay in MO-1.

  • dbecraft

No, it was not intentional, just poor eyesight – old age so to speak. Sorry about the misspelling…

  • JoshINHB

I reached that point in ’08.

…and we Missourians are still stuck being represented by Obama Lapdog McCaskill.

Sounds to me like Akin is going to win, especially if Romney surges in this month, which seams possible if not probably.

If it makes you feel any better, my senators are Diane Feinstein, who’s corrupt as the day is long and a down the line democrat and Barbara Boxer, one of the dumbest flat out socialists in the Senate.

And I blame the republican establishment for jumping on Fiorina in ’10, a complete political neophyte, and shoving aside several relatively successful conservatives.

Oh, and Fiorina got almost exactly the same percentage of the vote as O’Donnell did in Delaware, yet somehow almost no one blames the R establishment for blowing that winnable election.

  • bluebird11

This is the most douchebag website i have ever seen in my life. You are not presenting news. Its fanboy nonsense and retarded rants. It must be great to write bs all day and silence your opponents because they get banned by the moderator. You will always get the last word here. Congratulations.

  • michael_j_lambert

I will freely admit that I did not put due diligence into finding Akin’s apology. Mostly because Akin dropped off my radar about 3 days after he let his mouth run faster than his brain. Also, because at the time he was still on my radar nobody behaved as though his apology were acceptable.

If memory serves, at least one of the Redstate front page writers wrote a post calling for Akin to leave the race. Also, diaries detailing why Akin should withdraw populated the member diaries column. Not having great seach-fu, I cannot prove that this was the case, but it is what I remember.

Finally, if you want to impugn someone’s ability to find things, at least give them a somewhat condescending link. E.g. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=todd+akin+apology

  • dbecraft

Probably just best I shut up for now…heh.

  • JoshINHB

I don’t think streiff is capitalized unless its the first word in a sentence

    or someone’s name

  • chipbennett

As far as ragequits go, this one was sub-par. So long, bluebird.

  • Bill S

If we ever get sig lines back, I’m stealing that “Mr. Congeniality” thing.

  • JoshINHB

Conservatives are better with Castle out of the Senate than in it.

You could maybe a case for putting up with him if he was the 51st vote for Senate majority leader, but only maybe because that snake would be just as likely to pull a Jeffords or Spector as he would be to support a weak republican majority.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

The blogosphere changed the rules on the latter…

  • jamesm

You got the first three letters correct. I vote to let live. Yeah but next time you go for Karl’s liver make sure you don’t miss the mark.

  • Kyle-MI

I think the rare exception should be when the candidate shoots himself in the foot and then proceeds to randomly spray machine gun fire at his fellow candidates. He had a chance to leave the race and be replaced with a perfectly respectable conservative candidate without the baggage., but he choose himself over his party and his principles. He has put control of the Senate in danger and hurt (hopefully not fatally) our chances at the White House.

  • dbecraft

Yes, I have lived a very sheltered life. I still actually believe in the good of mankind, that most people are good, and that government is for the people and by the people…and yes, I am old! Sorry, getting out more will not correct the ignorant youth out there…heh.

You can say that I’m a throwback to the past that still believes in people. It seems harder and harder to cling to my past but I will not give up. There are people like you that are agnostic, believe that people are only out to get theirs, screw the rest, lie to get along, etc. Does not surprise me but you should know that people like me still exist and will call you out.

That is why I am still a Conservative with beliefs that the world can change. Government can be actually be controlled by the people and their actions are actually for the good of all.

Of course I understand that those beliefs have long been corrupted by both voters and Government. Seems that we are in the age of give-me without an out. Naive, you bet. Ignorant, not today…

Kiddie sites…that is for you and the youth of today where they can play games while the world continues on without them.

Power to the People – what a joke of a name with your comments!

Now that you got that out of you and had a good cry, I must ask, what does any of the silliness you posted above have anything to do with your original sticking your nose into others business silly reprimand of Streiff or my assertion to you? All the crap you wrote above trying to pat yourself on the shoulder has nothing to do with you butting in, making a big cry fest deal out of nothing, and telling a site mod how he should conduct business on a site that you have no ownership in. So get a life, stop with the pious nonsense, and try to get your words to match the maturity your old age should be at.

PS I am no Agnostic, but you are an idiot.

  • dbecraft

    Heh…good reply!

PS: Should had had a colon after PS…

  • gayla

Akin had been given some bad information and repeated it. He also used less than perfect wording in saying some CLAIMS of rape were not legitimate. The NRSC saw this as a great opportunity to keep down the conservatives in Washington, and piled on hugging the MSM. Also to say claims of rape may not be true is like saying a black president may not be a good one…nuf said

  • Locked and Loaded

Read through those names again, and you should see another way Senate control can be up-ended. But with your comment about Reid, I don’t expect much from you.

  • Common_Cents

I never thought there were outright idea stealing, but rather not being mindful of plenty of diaries on same topic to promote from member diaries already existed before some FP would do a same story with not much to add.

  • Bill S

There a lot more to selecting a diary to promote than the topic. The amount of editing it takes is a huge consideration, and that tends to be a big problem.

  • MichMike

If politicians, or those running for office, are disqualified for saying something off the cuff and stupid, we could vote for no one.

  • Bill S

Exactly what I said at the time Akin made that mistake. We just happen to be the Stupid Party who roasts our own people over their mistakes.

  • Weiland road

No, but if you run for Chief Justice Douchebag you would probably win

  • Common_Cents

A textbook case for the need for media bootcamp for all Republicans. they all ran when approached by hostile media trying to get them on record to distance themselves. All they had to say was, “i disagree with his words but the real issue here is ……(damn DEMS!)”

  • PowerToThePeople

And you still make no point but you did prove each and every point made about you.

Slink off, you have made enough of a fool of yourself for one day.

  • votemout2012

Amen! Akin has served my district with honor. This whole mess rests solely on RNC who saw a chance to get rid of a conservative and replace him with a moderate of their choosing. It was a pathetic play.I’m Voting for Akin. I think Romney win and Akin on his coat tails in MO. Problem for RNC this mess has soured conservatives in MO on the party. When Pathetic Blunt is up I will never cast a vote for that man!.

  • dbecraft

Heh… Unfortunately, my original point still stands. Strieff (sorry, I do capitalize names – blame my teachers) should have made a point with his comment instead of going after the spelling of Carl/Karl. If he had a disagreement, state it, otherwise making the comment he did was just snark (sorry, it was not just a joke).

Yes, I agree with you about had had back to back…should have read for errors before I posted but it was suppose to be a funny retort so I did not worry about it.

Went back and read some of your earlier posts and take back much of what I insinuated. You do seem to be a nice reasonable conservative fellow… Sorry for my interpretation from your few earlier comments.

  • jamesm

Standing on principle or standing on our heads. We need to remember that the Dems, as a party, are not “honorable”. I agree that, at this point, it is stupid to oppose Akin. In almost every case a conservative is better than McCaskill. A voter has only one choice to make-Akin or McCaskill. All the rest is plain nonsense at this point. Anyone one who does not support Akin loses any right to complain about Obamacare. For the the people who think that someone is going to learn a lesson-not going to happen. Lets beat McCaskill.

  • rabun1016

The bottom line is that folks like Todd Akin do the party and the conservative cause no good. They are unpersuasive and, in his case, he will never have credibility with anyone. I would rather him win than lose, I guess, but I am incensed that someone like him, who has so little self awareness about questions and answers, was the party nominee.

  • Bill S

That’s right. A guy who votes conservative more than 90% of the time “does the cause no good”. And darn those Missouri voters for choosing someone less than 100% perfect!

If I could embed videos, I’d use the Bugs Bunny “What a Maroon” clip here.

  • http://rightwingbuckeye.wordpress.com/ Right-Wing Buckeye

I think it’s safe to say that another vote to repeal Obamacare in the Senate does our cause more good than just about anything else. McCaskill is a guaranteed vote to keep Obamacare. The choice is pretty clear. I whole-heartedly support Akin, even though I cringed when I first heard his remarks.
Anyone who thinks we are better off with McCaskill than Akin isn’t thinking about our true goals this election cycle.

  • votemout2012

Americans can only dream of having a more stand up guy. LOL you need to do your homework!

  • votemout2012

Any republican voting for McCaskill is no republican. The woman is toxic with her votes.

The powers that be, ie; the permanent political class in Washington DC, and in every govt office in America, be they Democrat or Republican, are and will always be against “We the People”. This is why these hierarchy elitists in power, constantly 24/7-365, try to keep us down and out of political leadership, from removing and replacing them, from taking over their reins of power and influence, ie; access to and control of govt tax payer money. This is the struggle that is and always has been the story since civilized man / civilized society started. But one in which we the Tea party people will not relent from, not capitulate to, and not back down from.

  • http://www.TerriersOfTheRight.blogspot.com Flagstaff

How could his one remark be more offensive than any of a dozen offensive racist comment made by Joe Biden, but he is the VP?

Offensive comments are just excuses for libs to trash whomever they want to trash. It’s time for us to start being proud of them instead of apologizing for them. “It’s our latest entry in the Joe Biden Offensive Comment Sweepstakes!”

  • davesinsanantonio

The problem with NRSC and other spineless RINOs is that they would rather lose the Senate than win with conservatives. They are much more oriented to keeping their power and the status quo, which supports their individual power, than in letting conservatives have any power at all. They would much rather “reach across the aisle” than lend a helping hand to conservatives. They would much rather keep radical leftist Dims in the Senate than let any new conservatives in. And, if any new conservatives do get in, the will try to freeze them out of good committee assignments and will quietly work to undermine them six years from now. I would call them weasels, but that would be unfair to weasels.

  • davesinsanantonio

No, Claire puts control of the Senate in danger! Use your head! One less Dim in the Senate is one less Dim in the Senate. One more Republican in the Senate is one more Republican in the Senate. If Akin wins there is a chance he will come around and get better. If Claire wins there is NO chance she will get better or come around. Stop the nonsense. And, as Erick pointed out the time for shooting candidates through the grease ended months ago. Now is the time to get them into office and save the country!!!

  • paco12348

I call them the big headed GOPS. We the People, do not get to select our candidate for any office. They are selected and pushed by people like Rove, Bob Dole, and other Repub. elites.WE are too stupid to know what is good for us. Remember how the elites came out against Gingrich when he was winning big? THAT was when I realized the only part we have is to mark the block on the form for the one they chose. I will donate to a candidate I want personally but not to the RNC as a whole.

  • http://villagers-with-torches.tumblr.com Epa Minondas

Todd Akin is, via his own words UNQUALIFIED to serve, since he is possessed of not enough knowledge, nor the compulsory academic inquisitiveness, to hit the low bar needed to make national decisions, especially regarding security policy which actually may involve being a self starting LEARNER.
This is from a Tea Party person who has both donated to Demint’s org. and others nationally.
This has NOTHING to do with R or D, progressive or conservative. He is simply UNQUALIFIED.
Do we conservatives have OBJECTIVE criteria or not?

  • http://www.generalpatriot.com/ GeneralAl

The most embarassing thing, at least for me, about Republicans is how they run like cowards when a rumble occurs involving one of their members, especially Conservative members. I sometimes think they all used the women’s wash room at the capitol!

  • artinkennebunk

Good article. Too bad Eric has to add “it’s true that Todd Akin has Joe Biden disease.” He basically used two questionable words. Too bad Eric had to show he wasn’t so stupid as to accept what Todd wrote. Sort of childish.

  • MAJOR

” we’ll lose the Senate again because of the NRSC”
    Like hell we will.

  • Bill S

Yeah. My criteria is “don’t be an idiot”. You failed.

  • debjim90

@redstate-a1766cf96c1ad23d4e185945278867b8:disqus : You are right about Akin. Anyone that has taken the time to go and meet him and talk with him has seen the honesty and integrity come thru. A straight up good conservative Christian man!

  • BlueShadowII

I did send Akin a small donation . . . followed immediately by a notice to the NRSC that the donation had been deducted from the amount I was going to send to the NRSC . . . leaving nothing.

OTOH, you must not have seen this Fox report (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/09/27/return-todd-akin-republicans-offer-support-to-embattled-candidate/) and others more recently, indicating that the GOP establishment, including the NRSC, is coming around to supporting Akin. I like to think my non-donation helped move them.

  • http://www.wojworld.com The Only Woj

That Ken Buck loss still hurts. As did Murkowski pulling it out in Alaska — I liked Beardo. Angle was unfortunate and I would have loved to see Reid get bounced. O’Donnell was a disaster and we would have been better off with a liberal with an R next to his name if that meant we had that seat in our court. Akin is an idiot, and we need the seat … as we do in FL, WI and everywhere else we have goofs running for our party.

  • Bill S

    Nice.

  • artinkennebunk

Other than legitimate rape, what else has Akin done to make him unqualified. I read he’s had a very conservative voting record in the House. That should line up with your so-called conservative stand. Huh?

  • bifatjac

Anyone but McCaskill. She is a dangerous bimbo.

  • RonBeau

I place the NRSC in the same category as the other low lives that wallow in the DC trough of privilege. I cringe when time after time, these so called Republicans fail to back conservative candidates and legislation. They are in the same situation as geldings, steers and other animals who have been neutered. They are eunuchs, without balls, fat and unable to reproduce that does not support their power base.

  • ss396

Sen. Cornyn is not a Conservative; he is scarcely even a Republican. There is scant difference between him and Sen. Hutchison. The Houston Chronicle publishes Texas delegation’s votes when Congress is in session, and I have noted a slight turn toward Conservatism in his votes over the past year. I suspect that Hutchison’s being soundly trounced in her primary bid against Perry has Cornyn worried about his record.
But Conservatism is not in his core. He is a good deal more panicky than he is principled, and his wholesale flight from Akin shows it. He never though of damage control; he never thought of how vulnerable McCaskill is on clueless statements; he showed zero respect for the State of Missouri’s choice for Senate candidate. Indeed, he has repeatedly showed disdain for the States’ choices for their primary candidates. He is a Beltway body, and he runs the NRSC that way.
He is sorely in need of being primaried. Does Ted Cruz have a sibling?

  • votemout2012

Have meant him and talked with him several times. He is my congressman in MO 2nd district. He votes conservative.HE always addresses any questions in writing. He WILL beat McCaskill.

  • justperhaps45

The NRSC management / decision making style seems to be one of the withering visages of establishment GOP behavior. The power of the past lingers for now, but it is fading as more and more people stay awake and engaged after the elections. The status quo pols fear the alert citizen hence their demeaning, name-calling attacks trying to marginalize Constitutional Conservatives. I pray they will lose their power as engaged individuals question their power and take local control.

The Constitution is a foundational document setting out the God given principals of individual liberty and responsibility that gave vitality to our nation and enabled our success. If that foundation is allowed to be weakened, the small but critical self driven incremental contributions will be lost. It is a personal recognition of need that is then linked to a possible solution, many times becoming a complex mix of emotional and financial gratification which drives the drops of dream to join into a flood of progress. Small beginnings by the “little people” lead to big solutions. The givers, not the takers make the difference.

The establishment has a penchant for resisting disruptive change. But innovation and growth depend on the vitality of creative destruction that brings the new more appropriate solutions to society. Socialism and other old forms of slavery depend on ignorance of historic failures for their claim of newness. “If we don’t know it failed before, it must be new?” Only the dynamic ideas of individuals create progress for productive groups, tapping onto the available energy of those choosing to join.

We need to nurture the honest mistake makers. For they, being honest, then to question themselves and learn. In their learning we all question, thinking new thoughts, finding better ways.

By his mistake I suspect that Akin will be a far better Senator.

  • bannor

So a bad candidate runs off at the mouth and mortally wounds his own campaign there by dooming what was a near certain pick up and it’s everyone else’s fault for not dragging him over the finish line? I don’t live in Missouri so it’s not my problem beyond the national implications but is it too much to ask for at least competence? Being consistently pro-life does not give you a pass with everyone who isn’t a single issue conservative evangelical. I wouldn’t even consider this guy a legit primary winner, McCaskill supporters spent more money on adds for him then he spent on his entire campaign. Then factor in his biggest booster is Mike Huckabee a guy who would be a pro-life democrat had the dems not made abortion the sacrament of their party. The conservatives of Missouri get screwed one way or another. If you want to know why people don’t want to have to support this inarticulate boob I think it’s Bush’s fault, 8 years of having to defend someone who was unwilling or incapable of defending himself has gotten old. So if Akin loses, it’s his fault. If we don’t take back the senate it’s Todd Akin’s fault for being some kind of high functioning retard with delusions of grandeur. Don’t forget this guy was going to be the poster monkey for Obama’s “war on women” narrative that in itself made him radioactive to anyone who wasn’t employed by his campaign and they’re all related to him anyway.

  • rabun1016

Given his status, I certainly support him over McCaskill for one term
only. But, someone who is so stupid – there is no other word for it –
as to say what he said will never have credibility on any campus, which
is where the gentle persuasion of younger voters needs to start. Facts,
logic, and deduction. Someone who votes one way, but can’t explain
their votes to others, or influence people in their thinking is a wasted
placeholder in Congress. I believe in conservatism as a philosophy and
spend much time trying to find and motivate good candidates, not
perfect candidates. But, it is clear Akin is neither.

  • chipbennett

What is your stance on Michele Bachmann?

At least Akin recanted his pseudo-scientific assertions regarding the body shutting down conception during rape. As far as I know, she still hasn’t recanted hers regarding vaccines and autism.

(Strangely, I didn’t see anyone calling for her to drop out of the presidential primary following those remarks, either.)

  • Melody Warbington

Akin has a conservative voting record in the House. Heritage scores him at 82% and CFG at 94% (lifetime score of 92%). He made Honorable Mention on the Madison Project’s list. If I’m not mistaken, scores are based primarily on fiscal issues rather than social issues. I guess voting conservative on fiscal issues just isn’t your thing.

The moron is strong in this one.

And I’m sure the minuscule sliver of campus occupants who vote might care. The rest will be playing beer pong and watching JWoww and Snookie.

A few years back Barack Obama was on a late night comedy show mocking Special Olympics by comparing his bowling to the Special Olympics. Few laughed. Tim Shriver Pres Special Olympics told Obama that he must stop making the athletes in Special Olympics the butt of his jokes. Tim Shriver corrected the false impression the president had made on the comedy show that the Special’s bowlers were poor scorers and gave their correct scores. Impressive!

Media and much of the public forgave and forgot the flip, self serving but revealing mockery by a condescending President trying to score a laugh and win a vote at the expense of Special Olympics.

I gave to Akin through Jim Demint before he took the vote of SCF members by designating ‘Akin’ on the check to SCF. I had read he was thiking of a donation before he asked us. The online vote was 93% to donate to Akin. One other fundraiser had a list of candidates and Akin was one. I contributed again. Akin is a good man overall. But his opponent for the Missouri US Senate seat is dreadfully vile and evil.

Clair McCaskill backs a man for president who supports infanticide and made an issue of not helping babies hwo survived abortion while in Illinois senate. She would never get my vote or contribution under any circumstance.

  • brojohn2

I really like Cornyn but I have to admit, when it comes to running this NRSC he is totally out of his element. I think it is past time to bomb him with phone calls and emails telling him what we conservatives think of him as a helper of the Democratic Party.

  • brojohn2

Left the following message on Senator Cornyn’s contact page under the heading Election Reform:
“I’d like to reform you and the NRSC. We have a viable candidate running in MO, yet, y’all don’t like what he said so you won’t support him. I guess that we are a higher breed of political party than the democrats who support Joe Biden no matter what he says.
I thought we wanted to win the Senate this year, it appears that y’all want to cede the Senate to Harry Reid and his group of ne’er do wells. Please WAKE UP before it’s too late, the man has a good chance of winning that seat. We have plenty of people in the house and Senate who open mouth and insert foot. So what! It is time to support conservatives for the Senate so we can replace you and McConnel (RINO) that he is.”

    John Quigley,
Chair, Republican Party in Kinney County TX.

Hopefully if he gets enough angry folks writing it and calling his offices here in the State of Texas, he will take the hint.

  • brojohn2

How about your man Joe “Foot in Mouth” Biden. I don’t hear any howls against him from liberals!

  • votemout2012

Wondering why we can’t see a story on redstate about McCaskills husband getting stimulus money. Conservative media should be jumping all over it! All we get is crickets except at Gateway pundit.

The NRSC and the liberal establishment in the Republican party are some of the biggest enemies to conservatism. I would rather have 1000 avowed enemies, standing in front of me than one false friend standing behind…

Agreed. I’m so sad to see our conservatives so divided on this issue. There is NOTHING wrong with what Todd Akin said. On politics, maybe. But on substance, there was absolutely nothing wrong. What Todd Akin was saying, the famous “legitimate rape” line, was not that rape is legitimate, but that the government has defined rape so broadly that almost ANYTHING can be claimed as “rape” now. A woman has consensual sex with a man, and regrets it afterwards when she finds out she’s pregnant? It’s “rape”, and now she can claim it as such to get an abortion. Two high schoolers have consensual sex with eachother? It’s “rape” (or “child rape”), and now the female can claim it as such to get an abortion. Of course, by this ridiculous definition, almost 70% of this nation are child rapists, if you just look at the statistics on how many people have sex before graduating from high school.

Todd Akin was right on the issue. Claire Mccaskill is WRONG on the issues. End of story!

I can understand this, even if I disagree (I think Kit Bond should have been put up as an independent, but so it goes). That said, this is far better than Congressman DesJarlais. He will have to repent, and will have to do so outside of public life. If he limps through this year, he’ll need a primary challenger the next cycle.
