Why Todd Akin Should Win

Claire McCaskill’s Keys to Success

Senator McCaskill should be proud of Craig Woods. She said the following about whistleblowers back in 2009.

“[w]histleblowers are our first line of defense against waste, fraud, and abuse. We’ve got to do everything possible to protect them,” McCaskill said then. “Whistle-blowers who raise the alarm about waste, fraud, and abuse should be commended — not punished,” McCaskill said in an April 26, 2012 press release. “Whistle-blowers are the unsung heroes of our fight to root out inappropriate and sometimes illegal behavior in government. This is a good step toward ensuring we’re protecting them from being punished for their work to protect taxpayer dollars.”

Only one sort of whistleblower doesn’t receive her gushing and verbose hero-worship. The ones that finger her husband James Sheppard while he sells money from the ARRA. She doesn’t like that class of whistleblower and responds with pathetic butt-covering and character-assassination below.

It seems that Mr. Sheppard was fond of entertaining his clientele in The US Senate Dining Room when he closed his deals. Craig Woods, a former employee of Mr. McCas, oops, I mean Mr. Sheppeard, gives us the scoop on how badly the perquisites of having a family member in the US Senate can be abused.

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill’s husband used the U.S. Senate Dining Room to cut business deals selling tax credits tied to stimulus money, a whistle-blowing executive inside his company alleged on an audio recording exclusively obtained by The Daily Caller.
“The thing that irritated me about this was he [McCaskill’s husband Joseph Shepard] entertained these outside investors in the Senate Dining Room,” the whistle-blower said. “That’s where he closed the deal.”

Meanwhile, Mrs. McCaskill seems to be receiving a certain amount of blowback from this whole scenario. Having hand-picked Todd Akin as an opponent for his utter defeatability, Mrs. McCaskill is watching her hold on office grow ever more tenuous. As the extent of the McCaskill Family perfidy becomes more widely-known and remarked upon, leading Republicans come back to Todd Akin’s aid. Rand Paul’s Super-PAC cut this ad against her recently.

Yes, Todd Akin has said foolish and ignorant things. No, rational adult Americans should not believe the uterus of a raped woman can magically spit out the seed of her attacker. However, Todd Akin has never used his position to funnel millions of dollars of money into his own family’s bank account. He has never deliberately supported legislation with an eye on how much it can enrich his family. He has never sold favors on the premises of the US Capitol. In short, he has never sold out the electorate who sent him to Washington, DC.

In conclusion, Todd Akin is flawed, but honest human being who could probably learn a lot if he read about science and technology on a much more regular basis. He is also not a criminal, a liar, or a cheat. He also voted against ObamaCare – unlike Senator McCaskill whose husband is sure to find a way to use it as a vehicle to cash in.

This is a very sad election because the People of Missouri genuinely deserve better than either Todd Akin or Claire McCaskill. The choices before them don’t allow this. So amazingly, I find myself endorsing a man I angrily compared to The Gimp from Pulp Fiction. Claire McCaskill is a moral reprobate who no longer deserves the honor of serving her country. So here it goes – “Bring Out The Gimp!”

Politics does, indeed, make for strange bedfellows. Repair-Man-Jack is more on-the-money on this one than not.

I am happy to support (the flawed) Mr. Akin.

The title doesn’t match the text.

The text isn’t about “Why Todd Akin Should Win,” it’s about “Why Claire McCaskill Should Lose.”

And as we saw with Obama vs. Romney, why the incumbent should lose isn’t good enough. The challenger also has to explain why he deserves to win.

Romney has done a good job of explaining that, in his debates with Obama.

    Todd Akin has not.

  • votemout2012

The people of MIssouri will proudly support Todd Akin. He has served my district well for the last 12 yrs with conservative votes. MO voters don’t think we deserve better than Todd Akin because he is the best of the best. To bad you could not have wrote an article highlighting what a failure and criminal McCaskill is. I would have enjoyed your piece. Pure example of why conservative have a hard time winning. Not only do they have to fight the liberal they end up having to fight our own party. PATHETIC

If the majority in Missouri wants obamacare repealed, then Akin is the only choice in this race. Not much gray matter needs to be expended on this one. Akin’s campaign skills are not on the ballot for the anti-obamacare vote.

A question from Ohio. We keep seeing the Sherrod Brown and McCaskill types saying that their opponents do not deserve to be Senators, and this meme gets picked up. What is the “special” status that give Brown and McCaskill such status in the eyes of their beholders? Frankly, I will take Josh Mandel any day of the week, warts and all, over the lying Sherrod Brown, because he has shown himself to be honest. I suspect the same thing is true of Todd Akin. Doesn’t honesty trump all of the “gravitas” of the incumbent Senator?

  • ohiohistorian

Ditto for Ohio and Josh Mandel.

The United States Senate should be the GOP’s stronghold in the federal government because there are so many small states that are solidly GOP. Take a look at today’s RCP map, there’s 20 safe or likely Romney states and only 13 safe or likely Obama states. W carried 30+ states twice, and even John McCain carried 22 states. If we got similar results in the Senate we should have an almost permanent majority that frequently becomes filibuster proof.

The reason we don’t is because Democrats treat Senators as the largely partisan votes they are while Republicans seem easily swayed by taint in their candidates or supposed special merit in the Dems’. Obamacare passed because the GOP was unable to rally around scandal-tainted candidates like Stevens in Alaska or Burns in Montana. We need to rally around Akin despite his flaws just as the Dems are rallying around McCaskill despite hers.

Talk about damning with faint praise. With friends like you, Todd Akin doesn’t need any enemies. Nice to see you are in the “I care what the media thinks about me so I’ll be sure to be as nasty as possible to him while endorsing him.”

You seriously compare this honorable man to a submissive male sex slave?

Redstate can do better than this drivel.

  • sengokunadeko14

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: Todd Akin needs to win this race, and I’m so sad to see conservatives divided at all on this issue. There is NOTHING wrong with what Todd Akin said. On politics, maybe. But on substance, there was absolutely nothing wrong. What Todd Akin was saying, the famous “legitimate rape” line, was not that rape is legitimate, but that the government has defined rape so broadly that almost ANYTHING can be claimed as “rape” now. A woman has consensual sex with a man, and regrets it afterwards when she finds out she’s pregnant? It’s “rape”, and now she can claim it as such to get an abortion. Two high schoolers have consensual sex with eachother? It’s “rape” (or child rape), and now the female can claim it as such to get an abortion. Of course, by this ridiculous definition, almost 70% of this nation are child rapists, if you just look at the statistics on the number of people who have sex before graduating from high school.

Todd Akin was right on this issue. Claire Mccaskill is WRONG on ALL issues. End of story!

This man is right. With our (admittedly sometimes bureaucratic) electoral system, the Dems have a small advantage in the Presidential electoral college, the Republicans have a big advantage (or SHOULD) in the Senate, and with recent redistrictings over the past decade, the Republicans have a decent advantage in the House of Representatives.

We Republicans have shot ourselves in the foot when it comes to the Senate Again and Again. We need to stop doing that.

How many times have we heard the pejorative term “defective candidate” to refer to someone running for office? How wrong is this? The only use of this language referenced to “one of our own” is to provide intellectual cover for not supporting them.

Several large websites used “defective candidate” as a lead in for every post pertaining to Christine O’Donnell’s candidacy. And then, to add insult they continued with the latest witch or masturbation story. Both 20 year old stories. Not surprisingly, she lost. Sadly, she lost and more sadly we acquired a new socialist in the Senate.

No one in Missouri cares what I think about their Senate candidates but when Mr. Akin said what he said I hoped fervently he would be the bigger man and drop out. I was in favour of withholding funds to “encourage” him to do the right thing. Just for the record, he lost more points with me for staying in. It was selfish of him, and reflects poorly on him.

In the case of Christine O’Donnell, the Democrats and the Left threw the knives onto the table and conservatives and Republicans could not wait to use them on their own candidate, under the cover of “defective candidate.” In the case of Mr. Akin, he backed into his own knife.

In elections we can’t keep fighting the primary and we can’t keep eating our own. The primary is over, any chance of getting a new candidate in place of Mr. Akin is gone. The race is down to McCaskill and Akin. Is there any doubt as to which candidate is our and which is theirs? If the choice is between “corrupt” and “stupid,” stupid wins.

My primary residence is in Mo so I will add my two cents. I most assuredly believe I deserve much better than Todd Akin. Todd Akin does not speak for me. Ignorance and arrogance are a toxic mix. He is an embarrassment…not just to Missouri but to the GOP. He should have dropped out when asked.

  • votemout2012

I tweeted this garbage until I read article in full. I wonder if this author is a closet demoRAT. I immediately canceled tweet. Don’t know what has happened to redstate by will not be coming to this site very often.

  • votemout2012

Glad Akin stayed in. He won a hard fought battle in primary and 8 million of Brunner bucks in negative ads. He won b/c of his message of limited government and conservatism. We should NEVER allow party heads to force a primary winner to withdraw. If we allow this what do primaries mean? NOTHING

  • http://rightwingbuckeye.wordpress.com/ Right-Wing Buckeye

Amen! At this point in the game, bashing Akin is akin(haha) to endorsing Obamacare. We need that seat, and Akin’s vote for full repeal.

  • PowerToThePeople

Amen. The above idiot deserves to be mocked incessantly until he or she weeps in shame. To compare Akin to Duke is not only stupid, it is down right ignorant.

Can not believe so many numnuts on this site can not seem to grasp the fact that what Akin said was not horrible, racist, socialist, pedo in nature, he simply used the wrong words to describe an honorable position. The way some of the people have acted around here you would think Akin stated if elected he would work to make NAMBLA our national club where everyone child must be a member.

    Idiots.
