Hillary Clinton to father of American murdered in Libya: We’ll ‘make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted’

There are a few items of note in this post on Glenn Beck’s interview with Charles Woods, the father of former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, who was killed by terrorists on 9/11/12 in Benghazi, Libya. Among them is Woods’s description of shaking hands with President Obama as being”like shaking hands with a dead fish,” the fact Obama “would not look me in the eye,” and the wildly-inappropriate-in-typical-crazy-Uncle-Joe-Finnegan-way that Vice President Joe Biden approached Woods and his family and “asked in a ‘loud and boisterous’ voice, ‘Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?’” Yes, he probably did – but that’s a question that’s more appropriate once all involved have consumed half the whiskey at an Irish wake than for a somber ceremony at Andrews Air Force Base featuring flag-draped coffins.

The most revealing comment Woods recounts, though – and one which it will be interesting to see the government’s official comment on, if they can be imposed upon to make one – comes from Hillary Clinton, who has generally escaped public finger-pointing for Benghazi and the colossal fumbling of the ensuing messaging campaign. According to Woods, after offering her condolences on the loss of his son, Clinton told him that the U.S. government would “make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”

Go straight to 1:20 in the video below:

Some have pointed to this as furtherance of the administration’s blame-the-YouTube-video-because-real-terrorism-is-dead line on the Benghazi attacks, but that misses the real story in Clinton’s statement: the fact she evidently promised to “arrest and prosecute” a resident of the United States for exercising his right to free expression. As Allahpundit notes at Hot Air:

That’s perverse, but in keeping with the fact that she decided to run ads on Pakistani TV apologizing for the film while Islamist cretins menaced American diplomats across the region. Even if you give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she had no intention of prosecuting the filmmaker but was merely telling Woods something she thought would console him, why on earth would she zero in on the filmmaker as the target of blame instead of the degenerates who actually shot his son? She and O need to answer. Let’s see how much they really value free speech. Simple question for both: Is Woods a liar or not?

The Obama administration – including the President, the Ambassador to the United Nations, and the Secretary of State – have used a great deal of time and oxygen condemning a YouTube video, and blaming it both for the decision by a number of Muslims around the world to riot and threaten America’s embassies and consulates, and for the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi by Ansar al-Sharia. While these condemnations of free expression by official representatives of the U.S. government are wrongheaded to begin with, the declaration by Secretary Clinton that a government whose actions are specifically restricted by the U.S. Constitution will “arrest and prosecute” a person for exercising their right to free expression is at once unconscionable, illegal, and chilling.

Now and again, it’s as though the head-in-the-sand nonsense they pass among themselves, spoken quietly and knowingly as though they were part of a private club privy to higher knowledge, manages to leak out for public consumption. And incredulity if not horror, as here, is always the result.

  • gnelson

My God, I actually cried while listening to this proud, brave father describe the events surrounding his son’s arrival. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are both monsters who should rot in a special corner of Hell for all that they have done. Where is the America that I grew up in and love?? How can anyone in their right mind vote for this man, who is by far the worst president in American history. To those of you on the government dole: Get your head out of your butt and LISTEN TO WHAT IS GOING ON!!

  • Jack_Savage

If you think that is bad, this will make you SICK:

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/10/26/cia-operators-were-denied-request-for-help-during-benghazi-attack-sources-say/

From top to bottom, this administration is full of fools and liars. From top to bottom.

  • Ausonius

That c. 307 million Americans do not – yet – smell the pustulating stench from the corruption in this so-called administration is a complete indictment of the media in this country.

I hope the families of the murdered Americans keep pushing and protesting and demanding answers and – for once!!! – the Truth.

MAObama might salvage part of his dignity by admitting that he hesitated or refused to believe the reports, and that it was a huge mistake on his part.

He will not, because the hubristic tragedy unfolding before us must play out: let us hope we are not swamped and drowned as it swamps and drowns its traitorous perpetrators.

This needs to be blasted from every cable news outlet, but unfortunately only Fox will probably do so. It made me sick to hear how this father was treated after his son gave his life for his country. So disrespectful. For Clinton to promise to “go after” the man who made the video instead of the actual murderers is beyond appalling. With God’s help, we will be rid of these clowns in 11 days.

  • deltawing

There was never a dimes worth of difference between Clinton and Obama. They both hate the America we know and love.

  • texasref

Well, there goes my long-held notion that Hillary was actually a normal, respectable sort of Democrat, compared to Obama. They are both crooks!

This is such standard ultraliberal thinking, to blame some film maker rather than the ones who actually burned our ambassador’s home while he was alive inside.

I cried too, needed a recovery period and – while I have managed to regain composure and function/ still have not entirely calmed down- there’s still this persistent knot in my stomach.

I never thought I would read anything so revolting about an American President, Vice President and Secretary of State.

I don’t know what Obama was thinking — whether it was a political move, whether it was indecision and paralysis, or simply cowardice – but he has clearly proven he is not fit to be Commander in Chief.

Biden’s comment is beyond belief. You would think he was at a barbecue talking about how Tyrone Woods was all well and good and had done something trivial like catching a pass between 2 defenders and won a football game rather than sacrificing his life by courageously defying a cowardly and wrongful order.

Hillary’s conduct is horrific – not only does she apparently have total contempt for the bill of rights but how could she possibly imagine that the grieving father of a man who, along with Doherty, deserves the medal of honor – would take comfort in knowing that the Secretary of State was focused not on his son’s murderers but on the maker of some random video (that we KNOW now had nothing to do with the attack) ?

  • clowngirl

I agree with you that Mr. Woods and Mr. Doherty deserve a medal for their extraordinary courage. If Obama cannot see that, I hope President Romney will make honoring their sacrifice one of his first acts.

    Amen.

  • agooglyminotaur

The First Amendment is a universal American right. More than that— it’s a universal human right. Even IF the Benghazi attack was motivated by the film (and it sure as hell doesn’t seem like it was), this is an abhorrent response.

The first priority of the United States government is to eliminate threats to the United States government and the citizens it protects. It is NOT to pursue a policy of appeasement against Muslim extremists who resort to violence with OR without a supposed ‘justification.’

    This is a travesty.

  • gunnyg2002

The ENTIRE Obama Cartel needs to be indicted and then let the courts sort it out. Those convicted have ALL of the assets seized for the Treasury, their families pauperized, and they go to prison for the remainder of their miserable lives. Time to get tough and hold these bums accountable for their actions and non-actions.

  • norris

If we can be arrested for Offensive Videos they will have to release the convicted drug dealers to make room in the prisons.

  • gayla

Just suppose a certain leader of an American country just happened to be Muslim. Also suppose he needed an excuse to release a certain blind sheik. Now suppose arrangements were made for a certain diplomat to be kidnapped without major opposition, to be used in trade. THEN some insubordinate navy SEAL types disobeyed orders and stepped into the fight. The rest you can write.

  • gs425

An appropriate response from Mr Woods to Clinton would have been:

Are you seriously suggesting that we arrest a man for exercising the very rights my son gave his life to protect? Get out of my site you progressive piece of filth and take your cancer to freedom with you.

  • runner12

I personally do not buy into that conspiracy theory. The truth is less sordid, but still awful. I think that Obama himself gave the orders to stand down in order to avoid a “Blackhawk Down” scenario prior to the election. I also think they denied security in Libya in order to keep up the false meme that Obama had Al-Quaeda on the run and to avoid looking like Jimmy Carter a la Iran in the 1970′s.

When it went horribly wrong, the Administration from the top down engaged in an active cover-up, lying to the American people at every turn. I do believe they intentionally drudged up some obscure video to cover their tracks further. I do believe that this is an impeachable offense, given that Obama intentionally lied to the American people for political gain. It is worse than Watergate, much worse. Unfortunately, in order to prove any of this there will need to be a whistleblower who will come forward. I pray that someone has the courage and integrity to do so.
