Get Out The Vote

A Word From Some Republicans You May Remember

Today is our day, the voters’ day. Here’s a little reminder from some Republicans you may remember about the importance of getting out the vote.

COMMENTS

  • tacotuesdays

Today is going to be a new national holiday when 0bummer is sent back to Kenya and Mitt Romney is elected President. Paul Ryan is going to be an awesome VP too. Let’s win this!!!

  • fightnright

More (anecdotal) good news: From one of my windows, I can see the walkway to the polling center in my small NJ town. During most elections, until about 5 or 6 in the evening, people show up on that path only intermittently. Today since 8 a.m. we have observed a veritable ~parade~ of voters making haste to cast their votes – without interruption. So many cars are in that road, the street looks more like a parking lot. And those crowds have been growing, not receding.

Yes, this is in true-blue NJ – but where even my union Democrat friends and neighbors have all turned against the zer0.

  • norskie

I voted in north Oakland County, Michigan late this morning — a heavily Republican voting district. We had slight delays because all of the booths were full. Turnout here would seem very favorable.

  • kentucky

I don’t know what to make of the voter turnout reports. It sounds too good to be true. Crazy GOP turnout in Florida, but I haven’t heard anything about Dem turnout. Turnout in Madison, WI is about the same as the recall (read, low) and GOP turnout much stronger. Am I seeing this because it is what I want to see, while not seeking out contrary info?

I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but it is hard.

  • jp82

You are not alone kentucky. Many of us are concerned but I
hearken back to the 2010 model and can imagine no scenario where those
motivated voters are now somehow copasetic with the Øbama regimes
“progress”! Let not your heart be troubled, let’s roll and let’s poll!

  • LTtavernkeeper

Finding all the wood I can to knock on, but I think we can pretty much change Colorado from blue to red. GOP won early voting by +3. Dems were up nearly +2 in 2008. That’s a huge swing. GOP election day performance also expected to outpace 2008. I will say that Obama won Colorado by nearly 9 pts in ’08, so this can be way premature, but as now, looks like (if you don’t include FL . . . which I don’t) Colorado may be the first swing state we can count in our column.

  • kowalski

HEAVY turnout today in my town, more than I remember in *any* election I’ve seen here, and if anything it’s getting heavier as the evening goes on and people get home from work. No lines, really, but a constant stream of voters, full parking lot at the town hall, and lots of people at the polls. As usual, small-town America does it right: no stress, lots of poll workers who are cheerful and helpful, easy-to-read ballots, and generally good spirits all around. I’m in a “red” area for MA which means 60/40 (D) instead of 93/7 (D) and everyone moving through.

One good thing that happens during our elections is that we have a large number of competent older citizens who want to be poll workers. They have done it many times in the past and they just make voting a pleasure.

And there are no distractions or hassles. 1 police car parked about 200 feet away, and basically everyone doing their civic duty. It’s always a pleasure to vote where I live, even when it’s as strange a year as this one.

There was even a bake sale at the Town Hall today – fresh coffee, brownies, muffins, etc., etc. Both Democrats and Republicans were welcome to contribute but nobody was coerced.

It’s a better way to live, I think.

In addition to the Big Races, this time around we had three important ballot initiatives: 1) Right for Car Owners and Independent Service Shops to Have The Same Diagnostic Information As Car Dealers 2) Expansion of Right-To-Assisted-Suicide and 3) Medical Marijuana.

GET EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO THE POLLS TONIGHT PEOPLE.

  • gwalt

Voted mid morning and spotted a guy voting with ID that didn’t match his voter card.
They let him vote anyway (groan). GOP and its lawyers have his pic and the address he gave. Lets get out the vote and prevent voter fraud.
They (GOP) think its a poll to poll voter fraud ring they have been aware of for some time. Watch for this!

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

Turnout way down in Gamecock’s most Democratic congressional district! Great news for Romney. Seriously, there is zero enthusiasm for Obama among Blacks here in Ga-4 where Hank Johnson succeeded Cynthia McKinney.

  • Common_Cents

    man in gorilla suit votes.

  • kentucky

The thought of winning Ohio but losing Virginia is giving me some serious heartburn right now.

  • golffan1963

Seeing early reports of strong GOP turnout. Ari Fleischer tweets his sources telling him GOP turnout equal are better than 2004. Mark Halperin tweets from Romney and GOP sources that turnout is high across all battleground states. Don’t know if we can glean anything from that, but thought I would pass it along.

  • agooglyminotaur

Greetings from another Bay Stater! I know it’s a secret ballot, but hey… here were my answers:

Question 1: Absolutely, provide auto diagnostic info to customers and independent service shops. Informed decision making is the basis of a free-market economy, and one great thing that can be said for Massachusetts is the strength of locally-owned family businesses. Proud to vote yes.

Question 2: No way. “Assisted” suicide is murder by another name. God decides when He brings His children home. And there’s too much possibility for the elderly and infirm to be taken advantage of or otherwise face coercion under such a policy. Strong vote no.

Question 3: Absolutely. After losing three close relatives to pancreatic cancer, I’ve been amazed at some incredible medical research about non-psychoactive components of marijuana with strong anti-cancer effects. I disagree with the recreational use of marijuana, but every road needs to be cleared for the study and development of cannabis-derived therapeutic drugs. We’d be insane to ignore the potential, and leave it to other countries to reap the profits. In a state with such a strong pharmaceuticals industry, legalizing medical marijuana is a necessary first step towards commercializing new medicine. Strong vote yes.

I’d like to hear your take, if you wish to respond. I had the same pleasant poll experience that you did, this morning. Good job spreading the word— get out the vote!

  • golffan1963

First exit poll information from tweets from CBS News: 60 per cent of voters thought economy was most important issue. Of those 39% say it’s improving; worse 31%; same 28%, so only 4 in 10 say it’s getting better.

  • agooglyminotaur

    Gorillas aren’t monkeys, they’re apes.

  • golffan1963

More from the CBS National Exit Poll—46% say nation is on right track, wrong track 52%.

  • golffan1963

Good point about the democratic emphasis on early voting.

  • renl57

    I live in MA too.

And I agree with the way you voted on the ballot questions.

Here’s hoping that Scott Brown can pull it off. Elizabeth Warren is everything I can’t stand about the modern Left.

(but even Romney doesn’t expect to win MA)

  • renl57

I wonder what the other 40% thought was the most important issue.

  • renl57

Actually, I heard some Dems actually say it publicly: When Obama was leading Romney in the polls, we lock in as many Obama voters as possible, just in case Obama peaks too early.

I’m pretty sure I heard that on POLITICO or WPost or somewhere.

  • Jack_Savage

NC is in the bag, Pat McCrory is the next governor. VA is amazing – I ate in Charlottesville today, one of the most liberal places in VA. It was like a funeral parlor.

It really seems like they know something is about to hit the fan, whether they win or lose. NO talk of voting or the election overheard. NO high fives or flags on cars. NO excitement anywhere. TOTAL change from 2008.

Went by the local polling place in NC today to cheer on the GOP volunteers. Democrat asked me if I wanted a copy of their endorsements in a very small and pleading voice, I politely said “no”, as did everyone else who came by. My area went 65% Obama in 2008.

If this is not a big win by Romney I am really, really missing my guess big time. I think this is a tsunami – we have been quietly and patiently waiting for years for this day to come, and hell, high water or Sandy would not prevent us from going to the polls. And if it is as big as I think it is, the polls will have been wrong on an absolutely unprecedented scale.

Watch PA. If PA and NH go Romney, this thing is over by 11:00.

  • agooglyminotaur

Romney won’t win MA, but Brown easily could. I get a lot of flac on this site for complaining about the way Romney governed my state, and I understand that it’s a lesser-of-two-evils thing, but I can see why a lot of Bay Staters don’t support him. Brown, on the other hand, has done quite a decent job as a center-right politician, balancing the interests of the state with the larger financial interests of the country. Plus, Mass is a boon to federal tax revenues— we take barely $0.80 in federal spending for every $1.00 we pay in tax revenues— so though some people might complain about the culture, we’re actually a model of self-sufficiency and good finances.

Happy to vote you up… seems like there are a lot of liberal trolls out tonight, so it’s nice to have a civilized exchange. Best of luck to all of us in the rest of the night.

  • gflyer3364qt

With 1% in Mourdock is up 57-43 in Indiana. Romney is up 66-33

  • golffan1963

Health Care was at 17%; deficit 15%…..no other breakdowns available.

  • commonsenseobserver

Indianapolis and Gary are not reporting yet. Bad news for Mourdock with a shrinking lead.

  • APA Guy

At 3% reporting, the Indy suburbs and nearly all the rural vote has yet to be counted as well. Not bad news at all, as we don’t yet know the turnout in urban areas.

  • APA Guy

Remember also that not all Indiana cities are politically equal. Fort Wayne and the Indiana University campus cities (with the exception of South Bend and Gary) will likely support Mourdock. Wait this one out…I think you’ll be glad you did.

  • commonsenseobserver

AP shows Obama ahead in FL, while the New York Times show the exact opposite?

  • commonsenseobserver

    And we have.

  • commonsenseobserver

Mourdock is losing solid McCain counties around the state…

  • commonsenseobserver

    Mack behind in Duval County…

  • agooglyminotaur

I know you have, CSO! I’m just upset that Orly Taitz seems to keep leaking onto the more intelligent discussions around these parts. Obama’s overseen a terrible economy, regardless of where he was born, and he was born in the United States. So I just don’t understand why so many people insist on saying a Kenyan is ruining our economy, where saying a Hawaiian is ruining our economy is far more accurate, and a better justification for voting him out of office NOW!

  • commonsenseobserver

NBC has called the FL Sen race for Bill Nelson.

  • commonsenseobserver

The AP/NYTimes results are a bit messed up in FL. Romney leading in Leon County with 80% in, with more than 60%. :P Tallahassee.

  • commonsenseobserver

Fox News exit polls making me nervous.

  • golffan1963

Florida right now is Obama 51 Romney 48. Let’s hope Mitt can close that gap…..state is a must win.

  • retrocon87

if florida’s this close, ohio probably won’t be… this isn’t looking good.

  • commonsenseobserver

Chesterfield County is concerning. Mourdock and Akin are probably gone.

  • mikeymike143

chris christie is a traitor to conservatives everywhere. he has spend the last week publically kissing obama’s butt. i guess one muslim lover is going to back another muslim lover.

  • golffan1963

Fox has called PA senate race for Casey over Smith

  • golffan1963

    Fox calls Michigan for Obama. Current EV’s: R 149 O 127

  • APA Guy

I’m absolutely shocked that my Indiana Hoosiers are allowing a single debate misstatement to overwhelm Joe Donnelly’s support of Obamacare and a failed stimulus. I will be deeply disappointed if Donnelly wins this race…and shame on my home state if it happens.

  • commonsenseobserver

The Michigan call is coming way too early.

  • commonsenseobserver

PA also called way too early.

  • commonsenseobserver

MA Sen race also called way too early!

  • jimmyg

It was not a misstatement, Mourdock made it clear that it was not a misstatement, and you should not be surprised. It was a tight race from the minute Mourdock won the primary.

  • commonsenseobserver

Fox has projected PA for Obama.

  • commonsenseobserver

The Romney campaign’s strategy for victory has just crashed.

  • retrocon87

tied in florida w/ 80% reporting but the last ones not counted are all in broward and miami-dade… florida’s gone. game over.

  • commonsenseobserver

    Awake! Fear! Fire! Foes! Awake!

  • commonsenseobserver

Fox News just called Wisconsin for Obama. 0_o

  • 10ab

With all due respect…Christie is a good guy…the Muslim baiting is foolish. We all just need to calm down.

  • commonsenseobserver

We should not assume that the networks are right until the AP has confirmed. For WI, Fox is the only one that called it.

  • commonsenseobserver

Virginia probably going to Obama too, looking at Chesterfield County.

  • golffan1963

What a crusher it would be if Romney wins Ohio and Virginia, but loses Florida. Never thought that would happen.

  • commonsenseobserver

    Mandel and Mourdock already down.

  • golffan1963

CBS has projected New Hampshire for Obama. The news keeps getting worse.

  • Jack_Savage

No. Norfolk is at 0%, but Va Beach is only at 7%. Likely to cancel each other out. Some Western VA counties not reporting, Portsmouth reporting most all precincts. Albermarle most all precincts, Salem and Roanoke County not reporting many precincts. With Romney’s lead I think VA is going Romney.

  • commonsenseobserver

    The networks have been ridiculous.

  • golffan1963

Interesting. In 2000, the networks called states alot quicker for Gore than for Bush. Seems to be happening again tonight? Romney remains at 50% in popular vote.

  • treeofliberty

As someone who lives in the NE it’s absolutely disgusting that voters have given Obama kudos on Sandy if that’s the case: it felt like a 3rd world country last week and FEMA was a joke.

Incredible…if Bush or Reagan had been Pres during Sandy or Benghazi media would’ve torn them to shreds

  • generica

Boehner in his victory speech already talking about sharing and working with the other party and how there’s no mandate for raising taxes.

  • golffan1963

CBS projecting Brown to win Senate seat in Ohio. Obama looking like he may win…..GOP takes the House and may GAIN seats, according to Fox News.

Strangest election I have ever seen. American people are becoming truly schizophrenic.

  • rabun1016

And you pretending to be disappointed?

  • generica

Fox is blaming it on ‘nominating too many far-right candidates’

  • Bill S

    Yeah. Like Romney, right? GMAFB.

  • commonsenseobserver

    Florida keeps swinging.

  • golffan1963

It now looks as if Romney now must win almost all of the states outstanding to win. Tough task….not giving up yet.

  • commonsenseobserver

We might still pull off Wisconsin and Minnesota.

  • RedRedhead

It’s really bothering me that Florida is so close, and that just a tiny bit of Gary Johnson’s votes would tip the difference.

  • commonsenseobserver

Araphoe and Jefferson counties are showing danger signs.

  • wayfarin

looks like obama somehow has florida and ohio. this is done. i’m going to go hit the jack daniels now. another 4 years of debt and deadlock.

  • golffan1963

Actually, I think if he can win Florida, NC, VA, OH and CO…..could get him to 275.

  • golffan1963

Unbelievable….never thought this would happen. Sarah Palin just brought up a good point. The lack of response to the Bain Capital ads may have hurt Romney. He incredibly was able to replicate the mistakes made by two other Massachusetts candidates…Dukakis and Kerry.

    Never…never let attacks go unanswered.

Also, I suspect that–fair or not—Chris Chrsitie may want to get prepared for an avalanche of criticism. I’ve seen some already pop up on Twitter.

  • loupgarou1317

regardless of who wins, we got the house still, let Obama show his full true colors and see what happens when we get a true conservative to run……..

  • loupgarou1317

his days as a front runner republican are over if Obama wins……

  • agooglyminotaur

You’ve made a lot of insightful observations over the past several months, and I hate to admit it, but I think you’re right…

  • commonsenseobserver

Wisconsin still has not been called. Repeat: The Associated Press still has not called Wisconsin.

  • loupgarou1317

hmm, typical, the media wants to make the news……not just report the facts

  • golffan1963

Romeny’s lead in the popular vote continues. Amazing. Could states have been called too early?

  • agooglyminotaur

You clearly haven’t seen his posting history.

  • golffan1963

Projecting out this race, when you include states expected to go as expected…minus the states too close to call, you get Obama up 251-191. If Romney wins FL, VA, NC (getting close there, he leads by 3) and OH…that gets him to 266….three states would be outstanding…IA, CO and NV….get one of those and your over the top.

I’m not giving up on this yet.

  • commonsenseobserver

VA Sen goes for Kaine, according to Ace of Spades. And the White House too, then, probably.

  • commonsenseobserver

Why the hell did George Allen concede?

  • agooglyminotaur

I’m not blaming this election on you, personally… but the second I started hearing phrases like “Sarah Palin brought up a good point,” I knew my party was in trouble.

    Here’s to 2016, then.

  • agooglyminotaur

Strongly disagreed. If anything, the Republicans saved their best candidates for 2016, when they don’t have to run against an incumbent. Christie is a more than capable leader and would make an outstanding president.

  • golffan1963

Fox projects Ohio for Obama. That’s the ballgame, and its now over.

  • cardcarryingmom

WI is now trending blue, after having trended red for awhile… if romney thought WI call was out of line, they would have called Fox on that… i cant’ remember what state it was that Bush camp called and contested media call on but romney hasn’t refuted…. :(

  • agooglyminotaur

    Very subtle.

  • APA Guy

It’s over…say hello to permanent Obamacare, high gas prices, higher taxes…the works. America as we know it will be a thing of the past. We now go the way of Europe..and what a shame it is.

  • moosedrops

I just saw that on the Huffington Post. F*ck!

  • cardcarryingmom

i said last night that O camp knew something about this election just like they knew SCOTUS ruling on Ocare… the US has changed….

  • septembergurl

So, we lost the Presidency and the Senate. Nice. Romney did as good a job as anyone could. We are screwed. We could have won so much more if not for the idiots in our party.

    We have lost evrything.

  • golffan1963

Karl Rove is vehemently disputing Ohio call on Fox News.

  • loupgarou1317

well, we got the house, senate is still divided…….Barak can try, but when he pushes his agenda now without a solid majority in the congress…….means we have to keep the pressure up on our congress critters, remember he pushed his biggest part with a super majority in congress

  • septembergurl

    kowalski
The fact that Oabma will lose the popular vote to romney – as I predicted long ago – will never be mentioned.

  • loupgarou1317

as Bush lost it to Kerry i believe also……..but agreed, makes one want to have the electorial college votes more like maine and nebrasksa’s

  • commonsenseobserver

But I think we can all take some time to thank Mitt Romney for his hard work, as well as Republicans across the country for theirs.

We can also take some time to piss on John Boehner’s home state.

  • loupgarou1317

yea, and when the truth comes out……may the heavens have mercy on their souls

  • loupgarou1317

true, now lets get ready for 2014, 2 years of Obama unhindered……we can use that…….

  • septembergurl

So, as we gird up for Ryan 2016, let’s make sure that Gov Krispy Kreme who helped us lose is nowhere near the nomination.

  • golffan1963

What….there won’t be elections in 2014 and 2016, and beyond? Yes, it’s a tough night, but we haven’t lost everything. Nothing in politics is permanent, so never, never give up. There will be better days ahead.

  • golffan1963

I don’t think AP has called the election as of yet. The banner at the top of the page still reads O 265 R 200.

  • golffan1963

Romney popular vote lead down to 222,000 votes.

  • septembergurl

OK, stop everything. Romney is now leading in Oiho. Karl rove has called a foul. Now we just have to win Florida and Virginia and Nevada….we are winning the pop vote

  • APA Guy

Not to be snippy, but who cares at this point?

  • APA Guy

Nevada just called for Obama…it’s over.

  • mt2az

Stop letting people like Rove lie straight to your face about what’s happening.

  • APA Guy

No wait…if Romney wins FL, OH, VA, and CO, he wins 275 EV. But it’s like an 80-year Hail Mary.

  • APA Guy

    80-yard

  • APA Guy

    Really? You post this…tonight?

  • golffan1963

Minimum Obama total–272 electoral votes, even without Ohio. It’s over.

  • commonsenseobserver

If Team Romney doesn’t want to concede, they’d better have lawyers ready in FL, OH, VA, and CO.

  • golffan1963

This is a frustrating loss. As I write, Romney still leads the popular vote by about 134,000 votes…amazing. One can only wonder what might have happened had Romney not spent so much time in Boston during the summer while letting the Bain Capital attacks go unanswered.

  • commonsenseobserver

ND and MT Sen seats probably gone. If it’s any consolation, Heller’s probably staying.

    Can’t sleep.

  • commonsenseobserver

    1) Message
    2) Machine

These things need to be changed. The manifesto ought to stay, for now.

  • rabun1016

    Read it all. Every post.
