MEMBER DIARY

Boehner’s One-Sided Litmus Test

Yesterday, John Boehner told his conference that he would be watching the voting records of particular members.  Those who don’t support his view of Democrat-lite as the party platform will be kicked off their respective committees – just like Huelskamp, Schweikert, and Amash were axed earlier this week.

Boehner and other members of leadership are repeating this mantra that the punishment of those members had nothing to do with “conservative ideology” rather with “voting records.”  However, they declined to divulge which votes they were referring to.  Presumably, they meant conservative opposition to the debt ceiling deal and some of the spending bills.

With that in mind, let’s engage in a cerebral exercise for a moment.  Assuming Boehner has any shred of respect for Republican ideology, we would expect him to banish members who vote to the left of leadership; members who vote with Democrats on key issues.  After all, if voting to the right of leadership is tantamount to unforgivable debauchery, voting with Democrats should be a cardinal sin.

Yet, we find the opposite to be true with Boehner’s selective pattern of retribution.  Huelskamp, Amash, and Schweikert were thrown off the Budget, Agriculture, and Financial Services committees; there are a number of leftists who voted against leadership but remain on the top 3 committees – Ways and Means, Energy & Commerce, and Appropriations.

Here are some good examples:

  • In a sane world, there would be no worse offense than a Republican voting for Cap and Trade.  Mary Bono Mack voted for Cap and Trade, yet she kept her subcommittee chairmanship on the E&C Committee.  Leonard Lance is also still on that committee.  Remember that this committee has jurisdiction over energy issues.  Congressman Dave Reichert is a member of Ways and Means.
  • What about the Ryan budget?  Supposedly, Huelskamp and Amash were booted from the Budget Committee for voting against the Ryan budget from the right.  Well, Denny Rehberg (MT) voted against it from the left, yet he kept his status as one of the 12 Appropriations Subcommittee “Cardinal” chairmen.
  • Brian Bilbray sits on E&C, yet he voted against “The Stop the War on Coal Act.”  He also voted against the “No More Solyndras Act,” a brainchild of his committee’s chairman, Fred Upton.
  • Steve LaTourette, the King of all RINOs, voted against Eric Cantor’s “Small Business Tax Cut Act.”  If not for his retirement, he’d still be an Appropriations subcommittee chairman.

It turns out that it is about ideology.  It’s all about eschewing the ideology that distinguishes us from Democrats.

Litmus tests work both ways; it’s time we create a litmus test for Boehner’s job.

RedState needs to create a table listing every GOP member of congress, and an indicator of whether they intend to vote Boehner back in as speaker.

Let’s get them on the record now, and let them know this vote will be our “litmus test” for every GOP member of congress.

Really, highlight their vote. Make Boehner an albatross around the neck of every GOP congressman.

Show us the criteria! It should not be a secret to those that got ousted, their constituents or the American people. We are owed an explanation and transparency….just as I said in my letter to my Rep. last night. Come clean Boehner and tell us your criteria!

It’s time to remove Boehner and his toadies from the House leadership. Remember in January, we can dump him with as little as 16 votes.. Go for it… Why should I vote Repub with idiots like this guy in place. I won’t vote for a Democrat Lite ticket like the 3 million repubs did on Nov 6th

One of the tea partiers I recruited to become a precinct committeeman back in 2009 is now the chairwoman of one of the legislative district committees within Maricopa County, AZ. That means she’s a member of the MC Republican Executive Guidance Committee.

So she proposed this resolution, which we’ll be voting on tonight:

Resolution to Re-appoint David Schweikert to the House Financial Services Committee

Whereas, the Republican Party needs experienced leaders who follow
Republican Party Platform principles of smaller government, less spending,
lower taxes, pro-growth free enterprise, and fiscal responsibility with the
priority to strive for a balanced budget; and

Whereas, the experience of David Schweikert should not be
    disregarded, including

being elected Majority Whip in the Arizona State House of Representatives where he sponsored one of the largest tax cuts in Arizona history (ushering in two of the shortest and most successful legislative sessions by cutting spending to reduce
    the size of state government)

and as Chairman of the Arizona State Board of Equalization where he oversaw billions of dollars from Arizona citizens and businesses,

and as Treasurer of Maricopa County (one of the largest counties in the United States) where he protected billions of taxpayer dollars and earned over $300 million in investment income without running a deficit during difficult economic times; therefore, be it

Resolved, that the Maricopa County Republican Executive Guidance
Committee hereby whole-heartedly endorse recently re-elected David Schweikert
of Congressional District 6 to be re-appointed to the House Financial
Services Committee by House Speaker John Boehner.

    <<<<<<<<<<<<

We have, I believe, sufficient numbers of conservatives on our county EGC to pass this tonight. Our meeting begins at 7 pm Mountain/AZ time.

Perhaps some of you could propose the same resolution to any Republican Party committees you may happen to be members of or happen to know exist where you live (for example, your county committee or any local district committee). If every local, county and state Republican Party committee across the country did this it might make a difference.

    Thank you.

Where is the Tea Party Caucus? Where is Michelle Bachmann? Even Jim DeMint is abandoning ship

We have NO POWER boys and girls. None, nada, zilch. The fix is in to raise taxes.

I can’t get an appointment with my GOP Congressman.
I can’t even reveal my true identity here on RedState because even here, you get purged for minor disagreements. A little soul searching never hurts, Erick

I admire almost nothing about the left. but at least they have discipline. We just have power seekers.
    Yeah…I’m VERY discouraged. SHRUGGING…

I called my Representative’s DC office to let them know that I am disgusted with the infighting, backstabbing, and otherwise childish, petty behavior of the Republicans. I strongly urged him not to vote for Boehner as speaker and that I and my friends will be following the “fiscal cliff” very closely. In the end, they will cave to the Dems and send us all down the river of despair, gloom, and doom. I have had it with the Republicats!!

  • drohan00

    Well, let’s get ‘em.

Let’s call our Representatives and demand action. We are the one’s who get them elected.

We need sixteen. Really we only need thirteen. Amash, Scweikert, and Huelskamp. I bet Bachman, Steve King, et. al. can be persuaded. If we hold firm, Boehner will fall back into line.

Tom Price is great place to start. Marsha Blackburn is another. Let the RINO’s know we are going for them.

And like I have said before, we should have them vote for Pelosi.
