David Gregory should be arrested for violating DC’s gun law.

Background: last Sunday on Meet The Press David Gregory brandished a 30 round ammunition magazine while lecturing interrogating interviewing NRA head Wayne LaPierre. The problem is, however, that the mere possession of this item is in point of fact illegal in the District of Columbia, where Meet The Press is filmed. The police have been notified, and they are “investigating.” I’m not sure what they would be investigating, since Gregory demonstrated possession of the item on national television and the law is clear. The penalties are also apparently up to a $1,000 fine and/or a year in jail, but that’s actually incidental to the discussion at hand. What is not incidental is that we have a clear case where somebody broke the law. Probably unaware: but then, ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law.

I am perfectly serious. David Gregory needs to be arrested, for a very simple reason: if I publicly demonstrated my possession of an illegal magazine in DC then I would be arrested – which is something that I already knew very well. That David Gregory apparently did not is because David Gregory thinks that he is protected by privilege – which, as Robert Anton Wilson once reminded us, literally means ‘private law.’ The DC law is absurd and inequitable; it should be repealed. But if it is not going to be repealed then it absolutely must be enforced equitably.

And if your response is that David Gregory can be trusted with a high-capacity magazine because he is unlikely to use it to go on a murder spree, my immediate response would be: the same is equally true of people who legally possess firearms. Only they don’t have a privileged Media job.

A shiny pair of chrome plated steel bracelets, joined by tempered steel would look great on David’s wrists. HD Camera lights would make them twinkle so nicely.

    There’s a Whitehouse.gov petition to enforce pressing charges here – https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/press-charges-against-david-gregory-possession-30-round-high-capacity-assault-rifle-magazine/gMNRPpPl

Breitbart’s version of it is telling….

“Breitbart contacted the office of the police chief and asked if there were any plans to look into this apparent violation of the District’s gun laws. In response, Chief Lanier replied, “Yes, we are investigating the incident to determine if the magazine was in fact real.’”

They’re going to come up with some lame excuse like: “We were not present to examine the evidence on his person and have no way to verify the chain of custody since then, so it’s impossible to determine whether it was in fact a prop or an actual illegal magazine.” Of course if LaPierre had pulled out two fake rifles and said one was legal because it was semiautomatic and the other illegal because it was automatic it would be a different story.

    robert anton wilson – that’s a blast from the past… :)
“you’re either on the sub, or the sub…..”

    off…..should say “or off the sub”….. :)

Yep, and Obama should be arrested for treason. Neither has any chance of happening.

If you are entrapped in a police run ‘sting’ operation wherein you purchase a substance you believe to be a controlled substance, it matters not one whit that the substance you purchase is NOT illegal; it matters only that you have been duped into believing it to be real. Likewise, if you commit a robbery using a fake bomb or weapon, the fact that you KNEW it to be fake is not a mitigating circumstance. It matters only that your victim(s) believed it to be real or that you intended for them to believe that to be the case.

But, just so no one is deluded into believing that any action will be taken against Gregory, regardless of whether those mags were fully functional, genuine magazines or ‘props’ we can all rest assured that Gregory will not even be disciplined by NBC, let alone by the D.C. law enforcement agencies charged with enforcing that particular statute or set of statutes because he’s ‘one of the good guys’.

You can edit your comments, ya’ know.

A great deal of research will tell the DC cops that NO ONE makes fake 30 round AR mags. There are certain airsoft rifle mags that look like AR mags, but a close examination of the video should show if it was a real one or a toy.

An interesting twist…. It seems NBC asked whether it would be okay and the DC cops said no. So NBC did it anyway.

Mr. Gregory will never be arrested or perp walked on tv in DC. He is part of the liberal elite and above the law in DC.

It is being reported that Gregory knew in advance. So, while guest Wayne LaPierre was claiming that more gun laws won’t
work since criminals don’t obey them, David Gregory was knowingly disobeying a gun law. And Gregory is (allegedly) sane. Gregory had a (in his mind) justifiable reason or excuse for breaking the law. But don’t worry, says Gregory. Insane homicidal lunatics will show more respect for the law.

I think you are correct, romeg. As much as it would be entertaining seeing that smug mug getting processed, this will most likely not be pursued.

Hmm, how about a Million Mag March? No guns, just 30-round magazines, held aloft on a march to the NBC studio in DC?

Mr. Obama to bravely meet with a known violator of gun laws and someone known to brandish outlawed weaponry in the face of those who disagree with him. David Gregory announced via Twitter that Mr. Obama will be his quest on Meet the Press. Will there be extra security since Gregory has previously brandished an illegal weapon during that very program?
