EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Desperate Screams of the Press Clowns

If you ever needed a reminder of how pathetic the cast of clowns who make up the reporters and journalists in the media is, look no further than the David Gregory story and the reaction to it from the press corps. It is a non-story to them.

Glenn Thrush, debating this with me on twitter notes, “The more [you] talk about the fake Gregory story the less [you] talk about Newtown. Classic play fake.”

But isn’t it directly related? We’ve moved on to begin discussing policy to prevent acts like Newtown happening. David Gregory was engaged in that discussion — the very discussion the press says we must now have.

The press has chosen to ignore that Connecticut’s law worked. Adam Lanza could not buy a gun himself. He had to murder his mother and take her guns.

Now the media wants to ignore this David Gregory story. The DC Police told NBC News David Gregory could not possess a “high capacity magazine”. It is against the law in the District of Columbia to merely have one.

So to advocate for a law to stop future Newtown massacres, David Gregory broke the very law he wants put in place.

The only conclusion I can arrive at is the press corps (as I conceded to Glenn Thrush and Dylan Byers, I should use “press” and not “media” given my job) has chosen to use the awful images of the tragedy and the memories of the dead to become advocates for policies. In the process, they are willing to ignore facts and disregard the very laws they want passed on a national scale.

It’s irresponsible, but we should expect nothing less from them. I think the press corps, by in large, has decided to embrace bias in this case and will hide behind the tragedy and desire to “just do something” when called out on it.

In short, the media will ignore David Gregory broke a law to advocate for the very law he broke because his cohorts think he is on the side of the angels.

Gregory is such a joke to me. I hate when he fills in on the Today show. Why are we supposed to take him seriously? Same thing with Anderson Cooper. He hosts some kind of day time Opera-esque talk show. And these are supposed to be serious newsmen?

  • sjccoach

Let them continue making fools of themselve. The Democrat Party propagandists are losing the gun control debate. The more they speak the less they are heard. It would be gratifying to see Mr. Gregory perp walked by the DC police. It won’t happen because liberals are above the law in DC.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

The real issue is whether the DC police charge Gregory with the crime he committed on national TV. If not, its just another nail in what used to be the Rule of Law in America.

  • Tbone

Gregory, Holder and Obama are demonstrating to the American people that laws are not to be respected or followed. The criminal element has already embraced this concept. Soon, we will have to have a police state as everyone will be avoiding every law as in why pay taxes when the Secretary of the treasury doesn’t?

Gregory needs to be arrested. Now; Holder needs to arrested. Now; Obama needs to be impeached; Now. Will any of this happen? No, because the Republicans in Congress won’t demand it.

  • sjwrick

So he must not have because – “It is
against the law in the District of Columbia to merely have one.” So he must not have because – ….

    Gotta love the reasoning there.

  • tankertodd

The best part is that this plays into what those on the right have always, always said about gun laws – ENFORCE THEM! Once you enforce the laws as they stand, let’s then see if we have a problem. if they let this slide, then they will let the rest of the laws slide, in which case, pass all you want, but you can be positive that potential criminals will certainly blow them off.

  • rabun1016

There is a good reason why so many beauty pageant contestants when interviewed aspire to be
“network journalists”. It’s an easy path to celebrity status, so yearned for, requiring
no achievement or accomplishment other than likability from the
bosses and a pleasant appearance. That is David Gregory.

  • oneproudpatriot

This is petty and makes us look like morons. While we’re trading lol-Davey-is-going-to-the-slammer quips the rest of the country is mourning Sandy Hook and trying to figure out how to keep people from murdering firefighters with assault rifles.

  • kentucky

That is an easy one. Confiscate and melt down all of the guns meeting some contrived definition of assault rifle. Then the firefighters will be murdered by much more common semi-automatic .22 caliber hunting rifles. I’m sure that will give you warm and fuzzy feelings. They will still be dead.

  • Kyle-MI

Have to respectfully disagree with here. The problem isn’t the GOP, it is the public. There will be no arrests or impeachments until the public demands it. That is not going to happen no matter what the GOP does.

  • rasspo

I’m agree with you most of the time Erick but I think this is a moot point. It’s being reported now that ‘Meet the Press’ called Washington DC police prior to the show and obtained permission:

“Our sources say the D.C. police official informed ATF David could legally show the magazine, provided it was empty. An ATF official then called the staffer from “Meet the Press” to inform them they could use the magazine.

D.C. police released a statement today, saying “NBC contacted the Metropolitan Police Dept. inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for this segment. NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and the request was denied.”

    Read more: http://www.tmz.com/2012/12/26/meet-the-press-david-gregory-dc-police-atf-gun-magazine/#ixzz2GHFWphIF”

We must stay focused on the important issues such as the 5 TRILLION dollar tax hike that is coming January 1st, 2013, the left’s constant belligerent attitude towards legal gun owners, and the dismantling of our society/culture by socialist extremist.

  • fredflintlock

    kowalski,

From Greta Van Susteren in the cited article,” I will bet my right arm David Gregory is not going to go out and commit some crime with that magazine…”.

Can I assume that somebody has already pointed out how neatly this describes 99.99% of registered gun owners?

  • 6eorge Jetson

Or mowed down by a truck in a crowd.
    .
There are ways to go bigger than assault rifles.

  • Bill S

Some of us are able to think about more than one topic at a time.

  • Bill S

Looking like a moron appears to be a topic in which you are familiar.

  • pcbob

Hearing all the talk about arming the principal or having armed guards at the schools, I had another thought: Why not arm the students? Hey, it’s a fair question. After all, WHO is under threat of death here? No reasoning would-be mass killer would dare attack a school full of armed kids, now would they? Never mind the inevitable correlated deaths from kids shooting each other. The guy would probably die in a hail of bullets from every direction. Just sayin…

  • Bill S

I banned a guy for making idiotic comments like that. Don’t make the same mistake twice, as he did. Just sayin…

  • mikelindell2

It’s dangerous to call these people clowns. They are quite prolific in what they do-establishing a robust propaganda machine that is quickly sinking this country.

  • gscandlen

Not sure I see your point. You quote one story that said they had permission and you quote another saying they were denied permission. In either case, possession is a either crime or it is not. Am I allowed to call up the police and ask permission to commit crimes? Since when are the police authorized to permit the commission of a crime?

  • rasspo

It seems like they are conflicting reports, and is ‘under investigation’. If Gregory flaunted DC law and displayed the magazine in defiance of being told not to then I agree he should be tossed in jail. At the minimum it will show the left the frivolousness and unintended consequences of over reaching gun laws.

Multitasking is great but we need to keep in mind that in 5 days there is going to be a 5 Trillion dollar tax hike. In order to prevent this a LAW must be passed through the House, Senate, and signed by the Chosen One. That is the reality of the situation. The House has already passed a law to prevent this, HR 8. http://www.gop.gov/bill/112/2/hr8

In 5 days there will be a near 1 Trillion dollar cut to defense, via sequestration. We are now probably the closest we’ve ever been to a multinational conflict since the Cold War. The increased danger of sectarian violence in the Middle East threatens our global safety. Syria is about to collapse into chaos. The violence will very likely spread as Lebanon, Bahrain, Iran are at a tipping point. Add in Iraq and Afghanistan, which are not as stable as the Chosen One would like us to think. Saudia Arabia, Yemen, and Pakistan all suffer civil unrest. Once again we need a LAW to pass through the House, Senate, and signed by the Chosen One to prevent this. The House has already pass a law, HR 6684. http://www.gop.gov/bill/112/2/hr6684

These are the issues that are important to me, not how much attention the MSM is paying to one of their own.

  • reggie1

It’s not petty. It’s THE point, if messaged correctly. Gregory says we need more gun laws. NRA (LaPierre) tells Gregory more gun laws won’t make a difference because bad guys break them and good guys don’t enforce them. Gregory responds by breaking a gun law, which we now know he was aware of. Point: Why would a homicidal maniac not also believe himself unrestrained by the law in secret, if a seemingly sane person with live cameras focused on him thinks himself above the law?

  • Tbone

Really? How much of the “public” do you think it would take to convince the Republican leadership to act? Does the public have to demand that laws are enforced by those sworn to enforce the laws? It is not the public’s job to enforce laws. If it were, most politicians would already be hanging from street lamps.

  • Tbone

Hey Scooter, what you post makes you look like a moron. I see you brought along a bunch of your deluded, anti-American scumbags to reco the turd you left here. What we need to figure out is how to prevent mush brained fools like you from assaulting rational thought with distilled tripe. Why don’t you figure out how to keep kids from drowning in 5 gallon buckets of water. Almost 3 times as many kids drowned in buckets last year as were killed in Newtown.

  • Viet71

    Erick,

In a recent diary, you wrote how you represented indigent criminal defendants for 5+ years, as to which I say, hats off.

In that role, you avoided conflicts of interest.

In your role as CEO of Redstate, you’re not bound by the lawyer’s canons of ethics (I imagine is the case in Georgia), because you aren’t practicing law.

But I wonder whether your job with CNN doesn’t present conflicts for you as CEO of Redstate.

I Like your thought-provoking diaries. I wonder about diaries such as this where you admit to being subservient to the language police.

  • 1ramacers2

nothing is more emblematic of our national decay as these clowns. but, do we have an answer?

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

LaPierre would already be in jail awaiting bond had he brandished such a magazine.

  • fredflintlock

And I’m thinking that after four more years of the new normal, even Billary can’t propel the party in power to another victory. Looking good for a conservative coup in the Republican Party. All we need to do is figure out a way not to turn the primaries into another polish firing squad.

That’s all we need to do. Easy as pie. Piece of cake. Smooth as owl ….

  • earlgrey

So is there any thought as to whether this episode will further erode public trust in media. Soften the ground for more conservative or at least centrist news outlets?

  • romeg

Sadly, the fact that “The Media” consider this to be a ‘Non-Story’ is, itself a Dog Bites Man Story. Anyone with even the slightest familiarity with the hypocrisy of “The Media” knows this. If Big Media (Fox excepted in this case) chose to ignore Benghazi until after the election then this story isn’t going to get any traction whatsoever. Now you know what Don Quixote might have felt like had Cervantes been writing about a real as opposed to an imaginary character.

  • fredflintlock

    kowalski,

That last remark was based on the assumption that Bowles-Simpson becomes law 1/1/13 and afterwards the Republicans pop another Boehner by negotiating most of the spending cuts away in exchange for saving defense and higher tax rates.

Wait a minute. Higher tax rates? Yeah. It’s a twofer.

  • Jim_Riggs

I think it’s a stupid idea but I’m not sure the NRA would agree.

  • Jim_Riggs

We could start with limiting the number of debates to.. oh I don’t know, a dozen? And maybe limit, or at least screen the audience a little better. I’m sorry but they became the story at times, which makes it hard to control the message. Just a couple thoughts.

  • kahieb

Yeah, but you see he doesn’t believe he’s an ordinary citizen, he’s the “Press”. I think I’m gonna barf…

  • Bill S

Gosh! We hadn’t heard about those things! Good thing we have you around to educate us…………..

  • The_Gadfly

Minor nit: LaPierre would be in jail awaiting a court date so his attorney could argue that bail needed to be set as his client is not a flight risk or imminent danger to society.

  • bk

Is attempted thread-jacking still a Redstate ‘crime’? rasspo seems be on his second strike.

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

If a Gadfly can’t be in charge of minor nits, what kind of world would this be! smile and Happy New Year!

  • edintexas

But then, while claiming to be a “gun rights advocate” you also think 2d Amendment advocates are “extremists”:
“I’ve been a gun rights advocate and will continue to be but more and more I feel like I’m advocating for extremists.”

Stating that you aren’t sure the NRA would oppose arming 5 and 6 year old children in schools is on a par with the original poster’s idea.

Let me guess – you live in New Jersey? Maybe New York City?

  • edintexas

    1. Van Susteren is usually an idiot.

    2. Most owners of firearms in the US are not “registered”. But your point still holds, that (in fact more than) 99.99% of firearms owners will never intend to commit a crime with their firearm. I’m using “intend to” because there is no telling what paperwork violations might be coming at us in the future.

  • Bill S

    An excellent point.

  • Bill S

as another commenter points out, this is an attempted thread jack. If you want to discuss the fiscal cliff, do it elsewhere on the site. Not on a thread that has nothing to do with it.

  • edintexas

What, the “low information voter” (AKA Moron) lose confidence in the people who spoon feed his information? Dreamer.

  • satchman3

It’s really unfortunate that LaPierre isn’t quicker on his feet. He could have gotten a real zinger in:
“Mr. Gregory, I think your example here makes a great point regarding the efficacy of banning high capacity magazines. You sit here holding a 30-round magazine in direct violation of DC gun law and yet you don’t look at all worried. You seem to be completely unconcerned and unaware that you could be prosecuted.”

That would have been fun :(

  • jaykali

A bit, altho I like Mitt but he is a bit bland.

  • evilbloggerlady

That is absolutely right (acknowledging The Gadfly’s comment below).

Still as they teach in the BSA: Be Prepared!
