Blackburn: ‘America Deserves Better Than Abortion’

On January 4th, Congressman Marsha Blackburn introduced the first pro-life bill in the House for the 113th Congress.  The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 61) seeks to prevent the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from giving more money to abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood.  In her statement, Blackburn points out that, in 2010, Planned Parenthood received over $340 million from the federal government under the Title X family planning program.  Said Blackburn on the bill:

As a woman, I believe America deserves better than abortion. America shouldn’t celebrate abortion and our taxpayers shouldn’t subsidize abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood, who profit from the destruction of human life with taxpayer money.

In response, Planned Parenthood took to Facebook, shocked that Pro-Lifers still exist in 2013:

On Twitter, Planned Parenthood clarified their fear of the year 2011 by linking to a blog post admitting that, “2011 saw the highest number of abortion restrictions ever passed in a year.”  They noted that 2012 also made history with the second highest number of abortion restrictions ever passed.  One would think that with all their research, Planned Parenthood wouldn’t find it surprising that 2013 is going to be a difficult year for them.  Perhaps with the re-election of the most pro-abortion president ever, Planned Parenthood thought pro-lifers would finally give up.  However, even Time magazine recently admitted that the Pro-life movement is on the rise.  With this month marking 40 years since the Roe v Wade decision by the Supreme Court and the annual March For Life just weeks away, Planned Parenthood should know that the fight to protect the unborn has only just begun.

Get a copy of the Agenda and watch it…then you will know that this has been in play all along…and Dims, Indies and Rino’s have been just pawns in the game.

“Unbelieveable” they say. Well believe it. Why on earth would the pro-abortionists think that we, on the side of life, would ever stop fighting for something we believe in? They never stop fighting for what they want.
Anti-abortionists and pro-lifers will continue to fight against taxpayer funding of abortion. In addition, we need to find a way to educate the men and women of this country that have been mis-informed and outright duped by pro-abortionists – that abortion is murder rather than a “woman’s right to chose” or an issue of privacy.
Of course, people like Barack Obama and Kathleen Sebelius, who love abortion are on a whole other level. There is really only one remedy for them and it is not one that human beings can supply.

I would never support a federal level mandate because that means abandoning governing philosophy. Frankly as a conservative you shouldn’t even utter that idea in public. In fact it reads like you might be a liberal just from that single suggestion. Conservatives need to embrace that the federal government is basically not to solution to any issue. If we want to abortions then we need to begin legislating them down at the local and state level.

Whether pro-life or pro-choice I just don’t get why there is any argument to the fact that government should not fund them. What is this country coming to?

  • PowerToThePeople

Pro life have argued for years that not only is abortion evil, but also that not one dime from taxpayers should go to anyone, anything, or any scumbag doctor that performs abortion. Not sure why you think we are OK with it.

As to pro death folks (there is no pro choice, you are either against the genocide of our children or for it, they is no middle ground. We do not fall for the “we did not support the gas chambers personally” argument) you have to understand that if a person is such a POS that they are willing to support the murder of the most helpless in our society, then they have no morals, no decency, and should be squashed like cockroaches. Going on those facts, why would they care if money is paid via tax dollars to help further the murderous docs and women. They are happy that the killing continues and that my tax dollars are spent to further their goals.

  • PowerToThePeople

This has to be the dumbest comment I have seen in some time. Protecting the constitutional right to life is one of the actual few jobs the federal government has. You can not leave the option to deny a persons constitutional rights to the states. No state has a right to legislate our rights.

Abortion by definition is one person denying the constitutional right to life of another. This is a federal issue.

One of the big problems facing the pro-abortionists is the advancement of ultrasound technology. With the 4D options available, it is becoming harder and harder to push the myth that it is “just a fetus.”

If we give the federal government the power to stop abortions, we give it the power to make them mandatory!

The Constitution was built on the premise that the federal government can only do what it is permitted to do in that document. Giving it additional power just weakens our liberty overall. Any additional power you give it can (and will!) be abused by those who wish the power to force others to do their will.

You either believe in total government power to run our lives or you believe in liberty and the Constitution. Tinkering with it is asking for trouble, because there are way too many who crave power over their fellow citizens, and way too many who are willing to trade liberty for a handout of some kind, even one that on the surface looks righteous. Do not ever countenance giving the federal government any more power. Just look at how much power it has usurped already and beware!

Planned Parenthood has shown itself to be slightly less than honest in the past and continues to do so. Roe v Wade as has been shown had false testimony given under oath during the prosecution of that case. Like any business they fight restrictions on their trade as it damages their bottom line. But they will hide behind women’s’ rights and women’s health to verify the righteousness of their cause. They will castigate any woman who does not tow their line of garbage in order to further their cause and yet fail to defend women’s rights themselves.
Progressives should not be worried at all about the potential defunding of Planned Parenthood. There are enough rich liberals that could contribute to them and they could operate with even more freedom than they do now. The liberals would also get a nice tax deduction on top of it.
However liberals would never go for a deal like that. With the system we have in place now they use our tax dollars against us to promote their agendas.

Given that there’s no chance (or danger, to you) of that happening anytime in the near future, I’d really appreciate if you didn’t insult us for suggesting that the federal government ought to secure the rights to life and human dignity.

As our minister once said, it’s an upside down world when it is the government’s official position to punish someone with a federal crime and prison when they crack an eagle’s egg, but encourage and even fund the destruction of a helpless human who is in what is supposed to be the safest place for him, a mother’s womb.

Charles Krauthammer explained how is it that PP gets all this money to provide abortion when it is against federal law (Hyde 1974) to fund abortions.
Planned Parenthood gets a grant and because Planned Parenthood performs srvices other than abortion it qualifies for the massive federal subsidies. That mockery of th elaw and life gudes US funding.

As long as Planned Parenthoodhood does not send Medicaid a direct bill for an abortion, the abortion mill receives our tax payer money. Our precious core vaules are swiped and wiped out every time an innocent is torn from hie or her warm safe home in the womb to a merciless death. The unborm die in horror no doubt seeking the comfort of the mother.

Ad we pay for that proocedure as a legitimate thus legal health service year after year.

The report I read last night said PP provides fewer non abortion services compared to the mill so abortion is the main service PP provides. It is not clear if Planned Parent hood could survive with only privare doantions. It is clear the federal funding gives it a cover of legitimate health provider even courts recognize. That government sanctioned cover of heath care service provider must end. It needs to be exposed and kept in limelight.

PP has no legitimate health function women can not get elsewhere yet some courts see it as a first choice for non aborion exams.

Let the market work—end Planned Parenthood funding and see where it goes without us.

I’m not talking about an outright ban. Frankly, I don’t care if abortion is legal or illegal. I just want people to not have abortions.

It is all angels dancing on the head of a pin, I know.

  • celador2

PP seeks legitimacy and cover as a funded US government health care provider. US funds give PP cover to perform abortions due to a few other services, non abortion that they provide.

  • remalimo

I’m not very bright but I find it facinating that most of you don’t see the right to abortion as population control. China uses it. This a shell game and you are trying to play by the rules. Keep your eye on the results one baby down one less to feed. Cruel but it is easier to put it as a woman’s right than to call population control. You have to expose the Truth and the Truth will make you free. Why don’t you propose a bill that makes it mandatory if you have an abortion you have to get nuterd?

  • paleen

Whatever the law becomes on abortion why should the taxpayer be required to give money to a private enterprise like planned parenthood.

  • norris

If abortions are so needed for the life of these women ,why can’t the doctors refuse payment for the service.
They are not there to promote health it’s big business .
