TAKE THAT GUN AWAY from Joe Morrissey (D, Virginia House of Delegates).

Before the idjit hurts himself with it.

Background: the aforementioned idjit decided to wave around an “AK-47-style rifle” on the floor of the Virginia House of Delegates as part of a fairly bizarre gun-grabbing stunt. Now, Morrissey claimed that the gun was unloaded, but then

“Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock, interrupted Morrissey’s speech to ask him to take his finger out of the trigger guard…”

…Joe Morrissey is apparently not exactly qualified to be an expert on gun safety.

SERIOUSLY, THIS IS BAD:

    What… a….fool.

  • jiminga

When visiting a gun show with a gun to sell, the guy at the door verifies the gun is unloaded, locks the bolt open, and installs a zip tie through the receiver. It is hard to believe capitol security allowed this gun on the floor without visible assurance it was unloaded. The idiot’s thumb on the trigger speaks for itself.

  • sjccoach

Your comment is great. He is a Democrat therefore he is a fool.

  • spinoneone

I don’t know how many people have been shot with an “unloaded” weapon over the past 10 years or so, but it is probably a larger number than the number of Virginia Delegates. I don’t really mind if the idiot shoots himself, it’s others I fear for.

  • ss396

Isn’t that magazine illegal in DC? I wonder where he got it?

Calling AG Eric Holder: what is your office doing to stop the inflow of illegal arms into our Nations’ capitol? It has gotten so bad, so pervasive, that illegal weaponry are now showing up regularly on television.

  • chipbennett

Is it even legal to take a gun into the Virginal Capitol building? Or did this moron invoke the David Gregory exception?

  • westcoastpatriette

Guess you hadn’t heard…Democrats are immune from all laws except those that promote their agendas.

  • OhioHistorian

State police, assemblymen, and concealed carry permit holders are allowed according to the Drudge story.

  • scash

His ‘stoopidity’ aside; i would have asked him are we in danger of getting killed since he has an “assualt weapon” ?
If not that weapon is not the danger … the person holding it is…

  • Sir Aaron

Obviously not trained in firearms. A weapon is always presumed to be loaded.

  • kowalski

    But….but….he’s a legislator!

  • kowalski

It’s pretty clear that no sane or responsible person would ever try something like this, which is why it takes a gun-grabber Democrat to step up to the plate and show us all why every Democrat legislator needs to be immediately subjected to stringent mental health tests and should never be allowed to own a gun, much less legislate about them.

  • bgmacaw

Another thing is that the rifle in question isn’t anywhere near being an AK-47. It looks like a partial semi-auto replica that was made during the previous assault weapon ban. Note the hole in the stock instead of a pistol grip and the lack of a bayonet stud. The magazine is also probably a cosmetic 10 round mag made to look like a 30 round mag.

I suspect that it may be a .22LR replica but it’s hard to tell from the photo. The barrel, magazine and receiver group don’t look quite right for a 7.62.

Maybe we should just make GUN EDUCATION mandatory. That would probably solve much of the problem…my guess is this legislator has been watching too many Hollywood movies and playing video games.

  • Spike

Perhaps Morrissey was just trying to demonstrate how the ‘bitter clingers’ do it?! This guys is scary stupid, at least about gun safety….

  • kahieb

To see a weapon in this man’s hand would have me scrambling for the cover of a desk. Not only was his thumb inside the trigger guard but it had a mag attached and the bolt was closed. I think the word “Idjit” is wholly justified…

  • chipbennett

I want to know how one would concealed-carry the firearm in question.

  • kowalski

He pulled the stunt by informing the Capitol Police in advance, according to the Examiner. Which frankly might absolve him from any kind of legal action but I’d like to know how and why the Capitol Police would allow him to do that.

“The AK-47 that Morrissey brought on the floor was borrowed from someone else, his office told The Washington Examiner. He told Capitol Police about his plan in advance.”

    http://washingtonexaminer.com/virginia-lawmakers-ak-47-sparks-gun-debate-on-house-floor/article/2518986#.UPtsV_Jc41K

The Capitol Police didn’t stop him because he is a lawmaker and he told them what he was going to do, which is a very interesting situation because if someone had come to me and said: “I’m going to bring a rifle (of any kind) into the State House tonight, wrapped up in a duffel bag, and then pull it out and brandish it” well it leaves a lot of questions. Morrissey evidently has friends in the Capitol Police who let him pull the stunt.

  • littlehouse18

What about the people in the gallery? If it had ammo, they were most under threat. And even if it didn’t, he could have caused a stampede. Like yelling ‘fire’ in a crowd.

  • kipling

So, how is the break going? lol I have done it a thousand times myself.

  • checkmate2012

Some lefty lawmaker proposed GPS chips on guns….this guy is making the case for GPS chips in idiots. We need to track rogue liberals for our own safety!

Isn’t this typical of liberals. They don’t want you to have a weapon and yet they don’t have a clue about them, about how to hold them safely, and how to properly use them. Actually, I thank God that they don’t like guns. Since they are basically unhinged, they would be a threat to all of us.
As a native Virginian now transplanted, I would urge the large number of conservatives in the House of Delegates to smack this guy’s proposals down as dead on arrival. He is much more dangerous than any of the legal gun owners. I hope I can watch from afar and see the Old Dominion make me proud. God bless you conservatives and Gov. McDonnell, an excellent governor. He joins the ranks of the good ones with Florida’s own Rick Scott.

    Here’s my finger.
    Here’s my thumb.
    I think it’s empty.
    I am dumb . . .

  • Tbone

It should be pointed out that the fool is going to miss his own head as I assume he is trying to commit suicide.

  • torpedoh

Bearing Drift, a Virginia Blog, broke the story. Then they had caption contests on Facebook. It was great. http://bearingdrift.com/2013/01/17/fighting-joe-morrissey-hearts-ak-47s/

If you don’t live in or around Richmond (I do), you would not have had any reason to have heard of this particular fool. He is a notorious moron. Law license revoked, disbarred (recently reinstated for some reason), fist fights, disorderly conduct, etc, etc. He is a laughingstock, and would be merely amusing except for the fact that it is people like him who make laws and hand out favors from the governmental cookie jar.

    Dear Delegate Morrissey,

Nice to see that you haven’t changed. That little stunt with the rifle
(with your finger in the trigger guard no less) just garnered anyone
running against you a healthy donation from yours truly. I will take
every legal action within my power to ensure that your homely puss never
sees the capital building again except as a chaperone on the short bus
    tour.

The pathway to progress is not over top of our
Constitution’s 2nd Amendment and law abiding responsible gun owners.
This is for sure the best way to have gun owners dig in and not budge an
inch. Is that really how it’s going to be? There are some who say that
the current administration thrives on these divisive tactics. Your
comments lately fully support that view. This clearly makes you part of
    the problem.

    In the end, it
appears that you are in the same camp of people who aren’t going to let
a little thing like facts, common sense and data get in the way of an
all out gun grab and political power play.

    According to the
FBI, so called “assault weapons” are used in only 2% of gun crimes, and
in less than 1% of murders, despite the AR 15 being the most commonly
owned rifle in the US. FBI estimates are that 60 90% of all gun murders
are a result of the illegal drug trade. The Department of Justice says
that 56% of all murderers had a prior conviction for a violent felony
    when they killed.

So, if your position is really about
reducing gun violence, violent crime or saving lives, then you would be
discussing ending the war on drugs and passing a national 2 strikes law
for violent felonies. Those two alone, according to their own best data,
would, at a minimum, reduce gun murders in the US by 65 75%. You
represent Richmond- one of the worst cesspools of violent crime in the
country. There are so many constructive and effective things that you
could propose to help your constituents, but no-

    Instead, you
are part of the group that wants to ban the legal ownership of a type of
gun used in less than 1% of killings in the US, which will have no
effect at all on gun violence or violent crime in general.

    So,
you tell me, as an elected official… Are you trying to save lives by
the most reasonable and effective means at your disposal, or are you
just exploiting tragedy, fear, and ignorance in order to pass a liberal
    wishlist of anti gun legislation?

Do not support this crazy and
ineffective action. Communicate rational and achievable solutions to
the violent crime problem. Do not be a part of this repugnant political
gun grab that stands on the graves of murdered children.

    Make
no mistake that I am fully committed to this issue and providing poor
representation and simply parroting the ‘party line’ and making such a
grand stunt without proposing and executing any constructive solutions,
will have SIGNIFICANT political repercussions in the 2014 elections. I
am not some hillbilly gun nut parading around in my camouflage jumpsuit.
I am an educated professional. Unlike you I have no criminal record.
It is just too bad that the guy you tried to beat up in 2003 wasn’t
exercising his 2nd Amendment rights. I am a gun owner. I am an
American. I am a voter. Now because of all your disgusting rhetoric, I
am now a life member of the NRA.

Please make the most of the next two years and enjoy them as much as you can.

    Sincerely,

  • neolib

I know this is not the proper response, but the thought of a Democrat accidentally shooting up the Virgina state house while railing against gun violence makes me smile.
It would make it almost impossible for anyone to take them seriously in this issue.

  • neolib

    political suicide?

  • kowalski

I’ve thought for a long time that one of the main reasons certain Democrats are so adamant about enacting ever-more stringent forms of gun control is really that they suspect they cannot trust themselves with their own potential rights. Which is fine. They should make sure they are never allowed to own a gun. That has no bearing on the rest of us, however.

  • chipbennett

So, we’re back to the police using “discretion” when applying applicable laws – in which case this maroon *did* invoke the David Gregory exemption, after all.

  • http://www4.webng.com/rickbull/lostlucky/ rickbull

    This is my rifle.
    Yes, this is my gun.
When you see me do this,
    Don’t walk . . . RUN!
