Super Bowl Open Thread

Yes, folks, it’s Super Bowl Sunday. It’s the game NFL fans have been waiting for all year (assuming you are a Ravens or 49ers fan).

So, consider this an open thread for those of you stopping by RedState today, or alternately, talk about the Puppy Bowl over at Animal Planet (or whatever else you’re doing instead of watching the Big Game). CBS Sports has coverage here.

Who are you rooting for? Anyone have any predictions for who wins and/or the final score? Who had the best ad? How does the halftime show look?

Nominally, I’m pulling for the 49ers, but since my Falcons aren’t in it, I really don’t have a horse in this race. I’m still not sold on the idea of this game being too high scoring contest. Not with the defenses these teams have. I say either 24-17 or 24-20 in favor of the 49ers. What say you?

Also, for a few links to look at before the game, try these: National Review discusses the game, highlights of the Harbaugh brothers’ press conference (courtesy of ESPN), 5 hidden numbers you need to know, Bill Barnwell’s Super Bowl preview at Grantland, “Why the Ravens will win” from SI, and “Why the 49ers will win” also from SI.

And finally, let’s keep it clean folks. No trashing or flaming another team’s fans, and no profanity. We’re all mature adults here.

    I’d just as soon watch O.J. reruns…

    The Ravens, 24-20.

I have no skin in the game but predict the Ravens will win.

Grape soda scores first with a Flacco to Boldin TD pass. They’re up over caffeine free Coke 7-0.

So there was a group from Sandy Hook Elementary performing in the pre-game activities? Why do I sense the hand of the White House in all of this…..gotta keep the Gun Control narrative rolling.
Obviously, Roger Goodel fullyl cooperated……Pete Rozelle would have told them to stick it.

No back-up power source for one of the biggest events in the world, after a $300M+ stadium makeover??? Maybe they can hire Chu to configure one.

It was Bush’s fault don’t you know. Bet Obama is already making a draft expressing that.

For the record, Roger Goodell’s a pretty big Republican donor. http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_result.php?last=goodell&first=roger

Yes he is, and he has supported some conservative candidates with his money. I just chose to leave that and other similar information out as I do not try to educate idiots. But yes, you are correct. Maybe the guy above will retract, but I expect the ole tuck tail and disappear routine.

Well it is over, decent game all things considered. Better than many previous games.

But what sucks is the reality that the superbowl is no longer the place to see the great commercials. They used to be so good especially the beer one. Who could ever forget the dog going to the kitchen, guys starts stating “he is opening the fridge, he is pulling out the beer, he is opening the beer, he is pouring the beer………..he is drinking the beer…ROVERRRRR!”

Oh well, maybe the commercials will be back to funny and clever next year.

The game was exhilerating!!! First time it was close in a while and I loved the trickery by both brothers…..wonder if they played chess growing up :-)
    .
Many funny commercials but loathed that CBS controlled most of the ad time promoting their own shows. Was it due to lack of entrants or their agenda? Don’t know but the Kia ads won hands down IMO. The Paul Harvey farm ad is runner up for Ram trucks since it was mostly a tribute to farmers and then the clydsdale/Bud ad of the proud “dad” that raised the horse.

All in all, one of the best superbowls in a while.
