Chicago Police Chief: Second Amendment Is A Danger To Public Safety

Chicago’s Chief of Police, who previously blamed ”government-sponsored racism” and Sarah Palin for Chicago’s gun violence, declared that the law-ful exercise of the Second Amendment was a threat to public safety. From the Illinois State Rifle Association:

Chicago’s embattled police superintendent dug himself deeper into a pit of controversy today by claiming that lawful firearm owners are agents of political corruption.  Appearing on a Chicago Sunday morning talk show, superintendent Garry McCarthy expressed his conviction that firearm owners who lobby their elected representatives or who donate money to political campaigns are engaged in corruption that endangers public safety.  McCarthy went on to express his belief that judges and legislators should rely on public opinion polls when interpreting our Constitution.

After totally dismissing the citizen’s right to redress grievances, McCarthy trained his constitutional wisdom on the 2nd Amendment.  Despite recent court decisions to the contrary, McCarthy opined that the 2ndAmendment limits citizens to owning smooth-bore muskets.  McCarthy went on to say that he believes that the 2nd Amendment supports mandatory liability insurance for firearm owners and the mandatory application of GPS tracking devices to civilian owned firearms.

“ Garry McCarthy ’s understanding of our Constitution barely qualifies him as a meter maid, never mind the chief of the nation’s third largest police department,” commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson .  “What on earth would possess McCarthy to assert that constitutional rights should be meted out based on public opinion polls?  Let’s not forget that public opinion polls once opposed a woman’s right to vote while it would be a safe bet that, at one time, polls would have shown lynching as an acceptable form of justice.  It has been said that our Constitution exists to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority.  McCarthy’s view of our Constitution is dangerous and unbecoming of a civil servant.”

“McCarthy needs to understand that the lawful firearm owners of this state will continue to lobby their representatives and continue to support candidates who represent their interests,” continued Pearson.  “If Garry McCarthy doesn’t like that, well that’s just too bad.  If McCarthy is so interested in influence peddling, he should pop into some of the gin mills ringing the Illinois Capitol and count the ruddy red noses of taxpayer-funded lobbyists for the City of Chicago.”

McCarthy’s assertion that the Founders limited arms to smooth bore muskets is demonstrably false as well.

McCarthy has previously said that Illinois “does not have strict gun laws” and that stricter laws were needed in order to adequately combat crimes committed by those illegally possessing firearms.

It’s a concerning prejudice against law-abiding citizens from an official who has the authority to arrest and give orders to fire at them.

How’s your mayor’s asking the gangbangers to stop shooting at people’s children working out for you, Chief?  How about putting your efforts into catching the killers and making sure they don’t get out of prison to do it again.

  • wrightclick

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to learn that McCarthy has a Nazi flag hanging in his garage and a pair of shiny German marching boots in his closet.

  • RedStateVet

So, the bill of rights has to be interpreted based on the technology available when it was written?? That would mean that speech can be controlled by the movement on any airwaves, the internet, or any publication written on a high speed printing press. This guy is a jackwagon.

  • funwithknives

Could there be an ‘organic reason’ why “Da’ Chief !” says and acts as he does ?
    Cross-connected home plumbing ?
Radon in his basement, in massive quantities?
He’s misplaced his tinfoil hat ? (… and get a matching mask while you’re at it, Garry…)
    Electrolyte imbalances?
Something slashing-movie ‘fearful’ in Chicago’s water that should be found-out ?
…or we could just use our Trusty Friend, Occam’s Razor, and ‘jest’ call him
incredibly moronic, or stone-stupid, and stop right there……..

  • WY_Cowboy

Garry McCarthy’s stupidity is a danger to public safety. I cannot believe with all of the violence in Chicago, this moron still has a job.

It is the job of a Police Chief to control the thugs, thieves & criminals in the metropolis of which he is elected. It is not his job to ‘make law” or to “interpret” the laws of which he is to enforce.
If this man were to actively enforce the laws that are on the Chicago/Illinois/Federal books, then his streets would be a lot safer, a lot cleaner that they are now, while he complains, whines & makes excuses for his lack of leadership & allowance of thugs to outsmart & overpower him.
This man knows that as long as his city is overrun by thugs, gangs & other criminals that even if EVERY gun were confiscated, outlawed that only those listed would HAVE them, even if every one of the firearms within the whole city, that these thugs, miscreants would just revert back to previously used weapons of chains, baseball bats, metal pipes, knives…
The only answer to real change, to real enforcement is a heart & mind for leadership, not for making excuses & pandering to the evil around us.

Marxists, Socialista, Democrats, Lefties, Left of Center, Progressives, Liberals, Totalitarianists, Collectivists, etc. etc. etc. We dilute the truth by using multiple terms; that they are all cut from the same cloth and that all have one thing in common; they are all DEMOCRATS!

  • junglecogs

If I were a firearms manufacturer or an ammo manufacturer, I would cut-off all sales to The City of Chicago. Maybe this is one way to help take our rights and freedoms back – remind all of government that they work for us as public SERVANTS.

  • jmbreland

Chief McCArthy, you got it a bit wrong. You, I submit, are the imminent danger to public safety.

  • midwestmike

Gary McCarthy one more Chicago idiot. Since he has such a limited uderstanding of the Constitution he is clearly too INCOMPETENT be a police office much less in charge of one. What a jackass

  • BA_Cyclone

Good luck with that. Out here we don’t have marxist policies against gun ownership.

  • PowerToThePeople

To be bluntly honest, your comment is plain out moronic and stupid. Nothing else needs to be said.

  • sliverlining

Charlie’s brother Garry ought to preside over a different field of endeavor. Law enforcement, well, GOOD law enforcement requires a knowledge of that law and a little about people.
Perhaps a career in the food service industry will let him see the value of gun ownership AND provide the distance (about 3 feet) from the public that he really needs.

Mr. McCarthy and that pin-head Chief of Police perjurer in California who testified that there is no use for firearms in self defense -must have gone through the same academy or, at least have potty-trained together.

Yes Mr. McCarthy, firearms are dangerous. Especially so to those who would usurp our freedoms and seek to make us dependent on the Nanny State. It’s my sincere belief you are the greater danger. A person who is sworn to assist us in protecting our society while at the same time subverting our ability to protect ourselves. Isn’t this the same department that is fishing for a $12.00 an hour raise for its officers?

You’ve violated your oath of office and the only avenue left to regain your honor is to resign immediately and remove yourself from public life.

    Shame on you Mr. McCarthy!

  • rennyangel4

Certainly an excellent spokes person for Chicago. I wouldn’t go there if you paid me.

  • rennyangel4

    And Bush.

  • romeg

Gotta love this guy’s logic: Illinois needs stricter gun laws in order to adequately combat crimes committed by those illegally possessing firearms. Well, if EVERYONE possessing firearms is possessing them ILLEGALLY, it sure as hell makes the job of law enforcement easier: If you have a weapon, your going to jail. Sort of reminds me of the slogan of the 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam: “Kill ‘em all and let God sort ‘em out.”

  • hmmathis

At least Charlie had and excuse for his stupidity: his head was made out of wood.

  • suzy000

If this man was a private citizen….there is no way in he11 he would support this stance. People say that cops put their life on the line everyday and they DO…but so do we when we have to go into the public and hope some madman or killer does not decide to pump a few rounds in us on our way to work or the grocery store or at the park. We live in a dangerous world and we do not have bodyguards to protect us. We only have our S & W/Rutger/Glock etc. to rely on and this jerk wants to take our last line of defense away. He is a coward….a real man would never deny an honest law abiding citizen the right to defend themselves….just a-holes like this who are brown-nosing up to liberal politicians! Not all law enforcement are like this nut…many out there are telling Americans to buy a gun. As a hard working American citizen who pays her bills and taxes ON TIME will be da-ned before she lets some pantywaste deny her of the right to defend her children and home! These people are total idiots!

  • siborg

“interpret the Constitution as per public opinion”??? Go to hell you piece of sh*t statist, conformicrat control freak.

The 2nd amendment is there to give the citizenry the power to strike down a corrupt government and wage open war upon them until the Republic is restored. It is no surprise that such treasonous individuals in our Big government want a disarmed citizenry, to give them a monopoly of power and the ability to subjugate and forcibly ‘reeducate’ the non conformists in fly over country.

  • siborg

Activist judge overturns the will of voters in California over marriage, another judge overturns the will of the people in Arizona over providing identification, Congress strips ‘end of life panels’ from Obamacare and Kathleen Sebilius has them put back in on her say so, “the commerce clause is stretched to require you to make arrangements of your healthcare to meet the approval of the national government”, in a nutshell, THE REPUBLIC IS DEAD!

And now the control freaks and conformicrat authoritarians want you disarmed. Do you see the trend here?

“You don’t need a president-for-life when you have bureaucracy-for-life” Mark Steyn

  • siborg

    Conformicrats, statist, authoritarian control freaks.

  • sovrncitzn

Well lets hear your brilliant idea?

  • PowerToThePeople

Oh sorry, you called that an idea? My fault, looked like ignorant ranting to me.

  • joshinca

I was referring to the Chicago PC McCarthy. And there’s no way his comments were sarcastic, facetious or ironic.

  • harvey817

Did these idiots not take the oath to support and defend our Constitution? If they can not abide by their sworn oath, FIRE THEM.
Article VI section 2 states ” This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding. Section 3 says “all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the sevral states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution;”. It seems to me that a HELL of a lot of elected and appointed officials are violating our Constitution. Does the term impeach mean anything to anybody anymore?

  • commissionergordon

The Chief missed his calling. Should have been the Dean at Police Academy.

  • jonweiss

Is it any surprise that a man named “McCarthy” would go on such and Witch Hunt?

Is it any surprise that a crony of Rahmbo Emmanuel would make full use (abuse) of a crisis?

This cop is a full blown charlatan pushing a political agenda of his puppet masters, not a true law enforcement officer.

  • jonweiss

I have long been amused by the humor that the Democrats create around Bush.

According to his left wing detractors, “Bush is the stupidest man on the planet”, yet dumb as he is, he was able to orchestrate 9/11 as an inside job and start two wars all under the radar and still get away with it without leaving a shred of open evidence, all without the Dems in Congress being able to stop him,

Pretty crafty for such an idiot, huh?

  • funksoul6

My Word! This so-called police chief is quite the douche-bag.

  • sovrncitzn

Still no Idea floating around in that empty space between your ears? You are either related to a cop, sleeping with one or you are one. Or you could just be a natural boot licker.

  • sovrncitzn

And when the military and police come to take our food to feed all the zombies in the cities, that’s when the shooting will start.

  • mrhuehls

Obviously the police chief is not capable of rational thought, and has closed himself off from the truth of the empirical evidence in the crime statistics of this country. Only in places where shall issue concealed carry prevails are gun crime statistics low.

  • PowerToThePeople

So sad, you just do not know when to tuck tail and run. I mean, you made yourself a fool with your post, now you simply reinforce that fact with your follow up posts.

Best thing you could do is leave discussion on this site to the grownups and just keep lurking in your mommy’s basement waiting for the world to accept the tin foil life you have so embraced.

  • robertg222

What else would you expect from a phony baloney cop. Truth is more guns equals less crime
    http://protectillinois.org/images/slides/moreguns_lesscrime.png
Of course less crime would mean less money for the police force so that is why top cops support gun control. They know it will help the crime business and keep them employed.

  • Bill S

Sorry, we don’t allow unhinged nuts to post here. Buh-bye.
