Texas House Republicans Meet TODAY to Plot Cave on Obamacare

Empower Texans brings rather troubling news that today Texas State House of Representatives Republicans will meet at 1p.m. CT to begin “discussing” caving on Obamacare and expanding Medicaid.

Governor Rick Perry is solid on the issue, but if enough members of the Texas legislature disagree with him, they could override him.

The ring leader is apparently State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, along with Representative John Zerwas.

[UPDATE:] I’m being told this morning that the initial information on the meeting was misinterpreted and Rep. Kolkhorst and Zerwas are actually the heroes here getting everyone in line. My apologies to the Representatives. Several people tell me Rep. Kolkhorst in particular is rallying to keep everyone in line.

If you live in Texas, go to the RedState Action Center RIGHT NOW and email members of the Texas State House of Representatives. Tell them to oppose the Medicaid expansion.

I sent an e-Mail to my Representative, telling him accepting the temporary Federal bribe just saddles Texas taxpayers with added costs in the future and is a poor financial decision. Then called the Austin office of my Rep to register my opposition to expansion. Not too many calling this morning, phone answered on the 2d ring.

The use of the military to route the “Bonus Marchers” should be known to all citizens. But, the hyperbole used by whomever put the video together is over the top for at least one point – being gassed by tear gas is a long, long way from being like choking from the gas in Europe in WW I. Mustard burns exposed tissue and Chlorine gas can destroy lung tissue. Both can kill. Tear gas is very uncomfortable (unless someone has a serious medical condition). I don’t know that it is still the case, but it used to be that all US Army trainees were subjected to tear gas exposure during training (and lots of law enforcement people too).

Those servicemen should not have been rioting, attacking cops, and trashing private property. Just because they fought in WW1 did not give them a free pass to act however they liked, valuable service or no.

The video also doesn’t talk about the “Hooverville” they lived in for weeks prior to the demonstration (they showed a very brief shot of it) and the lawlessness and bad behavior that went on.

NO Serviceman should be treated that way. Back in those days…people did not just burn things without a reason. If young people looked at this video…what would be the incentive to fight for this country? These people keep us free…OR WHAT IS LEFT OF IT. My grandfather, my uncles, fought in both wars. These were NOT unprincipled men. So, one of these days…you would think Benghazi would have been enough…these people currently serving or have been discharged because they don’t have a leg or an arm are going to get so irate..because they were willing to give their ALL for you and I are going to get rid of the ilk we currently call the government.

FYI…WHILE SEQUESTRATION is in effect…DC IS STILL HIRING BUT TRI-CARE IS BEING CUT. Any more comments?

The Occupy Wall Street movement agrees with you. No citizen should be above the law, prior service or no. It doesn’t matter how honorable the service, that is not a license to destroy private property or assault police officers which is what many in the bonus army did. The army was called in because the DC police could not handle them and do THEIR job which was to protect citizens and property in the city. What else was Hoover to do? Just allow these guys to rampage at will until they got their way?

You just remember your words. History repeats itself. When all the amendments to OUR Constitution have gone by the wayside and you have no way to protect yourself (2nd amendment currently going bye bye), your speech must be PC…all the time and you find yourself being discriminated against because Big Brother says so…then maybe you just might get a little perturbed.

I’ll try one more time: The Bonus Army situation had nothing to do with constitutional rights and everything to do with the rule of law. You should do better by yourself than to take your information about this event from a six minute YouTube clip that is long on hyperbole and quite short on context. For what it’s worth, I am an Air Force veteran and I believe veterans should be fairly and honestly dealt with by our government. At the same time veteran status DOES NOT exempt anyone from obeying the law or respecting the rights of their fellow citizens. It has nothing to do with my 2nd amendment rights, or big brother or anything else. If we expect the police or national guard to deal with OWS thugs, Rodney King rioters or Kent State looters, then we should not expect them to give the same behavior a pass simply because its a veteran’s issue that they rioting over and we can see the justice in their complaint.

To the topic at hand, there have been just 950 signatures collected through this; what is the Red State norm on calls to action like this? As it stands, if that is all there is, that isn’t enough to pressure any of them to do anything.

Sir.,…you don’t have to try anything. It is this simple. The government promised those people a bonus and they did not give it to them without a lot of demonstration and lost time.

Today…Our government has promised us a lot of things and they have not given it to us. Sooner or later…we will get fed up or will will become serfs.

Oh….ps…did you hear that Obama is cutting Tricare for the vets these days.

  • texashistorian

The bonus was to be paid in 1943, though. They wanted it early and didn’t get it. The government maybe should have gone ahead and done so; after all the Hoover admin spent a ton of money on useless crap that made the recession worse. Rioting is not an answer, though.

And yes, Tricare is not good- some I know have good experiences with it, many do not. Thankfully I do not rely on Tricare, but get healthcare through my employer. If we wanted an example of the problems with government run healthcare, all we had to do is look at Tricare, or the VA, or the BIA on reservations.
