Harry Reid concurs with Ted Cruz: Dianne Feinstein is a blithering idiot.

I am, of course, inferring that from context.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has decided that a proposed assault weapons ban won’t be part of a gun control bill the Senate plans to debate next month, the sponsor of the ban said Tuesday, a decision that means the ban stands little chance of survival.

Instead, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said she will be able to offer her ban on the military-style firearms as an amendment. Feinstein is all but certain to need 60 votes from the 100-member Senate to prevail, but she faces solid Republican opposition and likely defections from some moderate Democrats.

“I very much regret it,” Feinstein, D-Calif., told reporters of Reid’s decision. “I tried my best.”

Yes, I’m sure that Feinstein did, for what it’s worth. And I suppose that she meant well, or she at least meant something*. But the fact of the matter is that it was demonstrated last week by Senator Ted Cruz – you know, the Harvard/Princeton-trained lawyer who’s argued and won cases before the US Supreme Court – that Dianne Feinstein doesn’t really understand either guns or the Second Amendment, and that has an effect on one’s effectiveness. Whether or not that also happens to have an adverse effect on one’s ‘legacy:’ I mean, I’m kind of sorry that her signature legislation – the 1994 ‘assault weapons ban’ – turned out to be both useless AND unnecessary. But sometimes that’s how things go down.

Anyway, I hope Dianne Feinstein enjoys her next (and h0pefully last) term doing nothing really worthwhile in the Senate. Because, really, she crested some time ago.

*Robert Anton Wilson, I believe. I presume that Feinstein will recognize the name; Wilson was, I understand, quite fond of San Francisco.

And this is why the NRA, as a single issue organization, sometime supports Democrats.

Harry Reid is a chicken and a smart one. I too wanted an “as is” vote to ferret out the talkers from the real supporters of the bill. As I said here, Reid is sly to use a Senate protection plan to shield the redstate D’s.

In fairness, it’s probably safe to assume that Dianne Feinstein also concurs with Ted Cruz that Harry Reid is an idiot.

There are some positions that truly are bi-partisan.

Now we can focus on the real issue of protecting the 2nd Amendment. Banning at least 1 /3 of the guns in America was just the beginning like the Governor of Colorado said today. He wants MORE gun control now and make no mistake, if the Dem’s in the Senate thought they could get it passed, it would have been a done deal. Now we can focus on stopping so called Universal background checks and the Ammo mag ban. The Universal Back grd check is designed to let the Gov keep data on gun buyers and some draconian laws crowbared in by Chuck Schumer so they can build a data base on gun owners. Note that nobody is talking about the mental health issue which is the real problem. The Dem’s are completely ignoring it and going for an eventual ban on guns despite the Heller Decision by the Supreme’s.

I’m no fan of Harry Reid, but this move was about the least surprising thing ever. Reid’s decision has nothing to do with Republicans and everything to do with protecting Democrats in the Senate (and his own majority). He doesn’t want a vote on assault weapons, because he doesn’t want to hang that albatross around the necks of Democratic senators up for reelection in 2014. Reid’s a scoundrel, but he’s not a complete idiot.

Of course, this is also classic bargaining.(1) Make a policy proposal that you know won’t go anywhere, then (2) make a big show of “capitulating” on it, then (3) bargain hard for the remaining policy, painting it as a compromise when it was actually what you were really after the entire time. I’m not endorsing Reid, mind you. Not at all. But he knows *exactly* what he’s doing. Hopefully, the rest of Congress does, too.

When even Democrat, liberal, progressive, communists think a gun grabber bill is lame it has to be bad.

Does anyone remember Feinstein’s history? When she was Mayor of San Francisco a serial killer was on the loose. Police confided with her facts about the case and requested her to sit on them – keep her mouth shut. So what does she do but call a press conference and blurb out everything the police told her in confidence. And they elected her Senator?
