China Is Shocked By The Death of a 2-Year Old. Why?

The Silly Chinese. They Just Call It What It Is.

The Silly Chinese. They Just Call It What It Is.

That kid got run over twice and those people just did nothing! We should denounce the People’s Republic of China. They are evil. They are malignant. They are materialists who have no value for human life what so ever. They could totally care less about someone else’s kids.

Or not unless hypocrisy is the bow vice makes to virtue. You see, the PRC is an awful lot like us except they’re less subtle, don’t buy the Botox and the ugly celluloid shows. As they open their society and emulate the worst features of the West they become America’s honest and forthright Picture of Dorian Gray.

Had they just left it at “God bless Planned Parenthood” rather than putting the whole eugenics program on a command schedule the way the US Army runs depot maintenance, nobody would bat an eyebrow. They need to call it crime reduction the way the Swedish call their current Stockholm riots youth violence. People get upset when the ugly truth calls them up in the middle of dinner.

Occasionally, someone in The West gets as honest and unsophisticated as the poor, humble Chinese. Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva wrote an “ethics” paper entitled “After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?” Here’s where they explain openly what Post-modern Westerners typically state by implication regarding the value of their children. Here’s where they show directly and explicitely exactly where the public celebration of abortion as a sacrament of Post-modern independence from moral tradition leads a society.

Abortion is largely accepted even for reasons that do not have anything to do with the fetus’ health. By showing that (1) both fetuses and newborns do not have the same moral status as actual persons, (2) the fact that both are potential persons is morally irrelevant and (3) adoption is not always in the best interest of actual people, the authors argue that what we call ‘after-birth abortion’ (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is not disabled.

So where do scolding moralists get off criticizing the Chinese for letting some two-year old get trucked in the street and not caring as she lay there bleeding? China has a one child policy and most Chinese parents don’t want that kid to be a girl anyway. In response to this American academics blame the skewed sex ratio in Asian countries on Hepatitis-B. I wish I were kidding, but as you can see below, I am not.

Earlier work (Oster, 2005) has argued that a high rate of hepatitis B carrier status in China explains a large share of the male-biased gender ratio “ the missing women” phenomenon in that country and, more generally, that high rates of hepatitis in a number of Asian countries explained some of the skewed gender ratios there.

You see, Emily Oster was trying to help the Chinese out. If you don’t want to talk about that bear that ravages your campsite, you have to learn how to yell “Hey look! Squirrel!” But the Chinese, they just do what they do. They are totally honest about it. That’s why it just looks so flat-out ugly when they are blatantly evil. There’s no euphemism over there. It’s like the last few chapters of Lord of The Flies.

Eventually the neglect, the unconcern and the blatant disregard of a two-year old child by the Chinese will be a common feature of American Culture. In many parts of our country it’s already pretty typical. When you routinely and predictably make excuses for the termination of human life, human life ceases to have any value.

But maybe, just maybe the baby who died in China will not have died in vain. People can learn from tragedy – as did Dr. Anthony Levatino.

Dr. Anthony Levatino is a pro-life physician from New Mexico but, before having a change of heart on the issue of abortion he was an OBGYN who also performed abortions. Levatino did as many as 1,200 abortions — some of them after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Then, after his daughter died in a tragic automobile accident, he re-evaluated his position on abortion and stopped doing abortions.

I have little hope that the practice will be significantly curtailed. It’s become an American tradition like baseball, apple pie and chattel slavery in The Anti-bellum South. But maybe this can get the Chinese to stop making this an official government priority. Maybe people who see what happened to this child can ask themselves if our society makes these tragic events more likely. At least we can look in the distant mirror and ask ourselves why so many people weren’t particularly broken up about it.
