The Monster In The Mirror: Dark Enlightenment On Why People Hate The West

The West’s Decadence and Contempt for Life Makes Others Willing Blow Themselves Up Just to Kill Us.

If The Post-modern West Could Look In The Mirror....

If The Post-modern West Could Look In The Mirror….

O wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae mony a blunder free us,
An’ foolish notion:

(“To a Louse” – Robert Burns)

I can see the merit of gaining a reasonable comprehension of why people would willing let themselves be subjected to vile indignity until more explosives could be inserted as a suppository for when they blew themselves up in our general vicinity. The unsentimental former Soldier in me considers the mundane obvious. More explosives equals higher P(h)*P(k)*. Quaint; but this doesn’t quite give us the whole story.

Somebody has to actually be willing to accept a truly uncivilized level of personal depravity and denigration to earn that higher P(h)*P(k). Can you think of anyone that you actually know and interact with that you hate that much? Can you imagine any enemy of non-biblical proportions that you would hate that much on general principles? When our enemies are willing to suffer vile and repulsive things so that they can blow us up; then they see something terrible when they look upon us. I can only reach the logical conclusion that we have quite the image problem. When you are given the gift to see yourself as others see you, you will quite probably encounter The Monster in The Mirror.

The reason we have that image problem is two-fold. First, we idolize a Culture of despicable depravity that is avaricious, materialistic, anti-life and morally depraved. We are nearly as devoid of decency as the pious and iniquitous as the Shiite Cleric telling his deracinated follower to take his suppository in the video above. Secondly, when that culture is called into account, our reaction is to virulently denounce the messenger rather than examine the truth of the message. This allows us not to have to look at The Monster in The Mirror.

We can just laugh this off, of course. Jonah Goldberg shows off some good comedy chops below.

Now, what I find hilarious here is that it never occurs to anyone that there might be some kind of technological work-around short of repeated sodomy. You know, maybe there’s a device or a technique, something that is a little less unpleasant, inconvenient or forbidden than straight-up buggery? Nope. Gotta go with the sodomy. The Saturday Night Live skit writes itself.

Of course, some things shouldn’t be turned into a laughing matter. As Neil Postman famously opined, we could end up amusing ourselves to death. That’s yet another way we avoid ever seeing The Monster in The Mirror.

A reliable measure of how others will see a society is to see how that society reacts when its failings are called into account. If the predictable reaction to a messenger bearing ill tidings is gunfire, than that society will blindly earn a windfall of condign antipathy. When The Catholic Church peacefully demonstrates against the callous attitude that the post-modern West takes towards the value of human life, here’s the reaction.

If anyone criticizes the fundamental behavior of the decadent and stupid Western welfare system, they are unfairly caricatured. Never mind that any economist worth continued employment recognizes that incentives change behavior. This has been empirically demonstrated to be the case. Those who deny proven reality will not deceive The Monster In The Mirror.

That individual choice and behavior matter then becomes the obvious implication. This idea is an anathema to those who do not wish to ever have to change. Pointing out the 20 habits of financially successful people in a non-judgmental, declarative fashion, comes to be pilloried as an act of malevolence. Those who vilify simple declarative statements they don’t care to evaluate on a factual basis will one day encounter The Monster In The Mirror.

Anyone that arrogant and self-righteous is not what most would consider a moral human being. If this is how we typically behave as a crowd, then maybe our society is no longer legitimately decent or moral either. It is entirely possible that Pope Francis has a valid point when he decries our modern society as cited below.

“We have created new idols. The worship of the ancient golden calf (cf. Ex 32:1-35) has returned in a new and ruthless guise in the idolatry of money and the dictatorship of an impersonal economy lacking a truly human purpose.”

The Pope very generously reminds us to lay up our treasures in heaven. He beseeches us to not worship our wealth. The Monster in The Mirror is reaching out to take us to a very evil place.

Yea verily, anyone who puts explosives in his anus to become a fire-and-forget anti-personnel weapon is at least partially nuts. Yet insane and immoral are not completely synonymous. It would be both dangerous and short-sighted to assume a mentally unbalanced enemy who acts strictly for ignoble causes. The desire to murder you is aberrational and genuinely evil. Yet that is not sufficient to eliminate the unfortunate possibility that he has a valid point in hating what our culture now represents and believes in. People completely unwilling to consider this point of view and take a hard look at where our culture is going need to hear from Col. Jessup about how well they handle the truth. The truth is right there in front of them. It could well be The Monster in the Mirror.
