Move Over Marco Rubio and Allen West – Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is a Rising Conservative Star on the National Stage.

Re-posted from PJ Media

By Myra Adams

Move over Senator Marco Rubio!   Step aside Congressman Alan West!

Make room for another shining Republican star on the ascent in the Florida sky,  Florida’s Attorney General Pam Bondi.

While it was Congressman Alan West who ended up making national headlines with his brief remarks this past Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale at the Broward County Republican Lincoln Dinner — with a message that, while fighting on the “ideological battlefield” for control of the nation’s political landscape conservatives “must be like sharks that smell blood in the water, you must attack,” — it was Attorney General Bondi’s speech that kept the packed ballroom audience spellbound.

Ms. Bondi was the opening speaker and for at least 30 minutes spoke with passion and eloquence about the many difficult battles confronting her office in a state as complex and crime-ridden as Florida.

Bondi regaled the audience with exciting tales of hunting down and closing illegal pill-mills and wrestling with the big bad EPA. She also railed against President Obama and his Justice Department, and then captured everyone’s attention with her eye witness account from the front row of the mother of all Supreme Court battles, Obama Care, in which she is the lead Attorney General.

This is a gift Bondi inherited  from the previous Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, when she won the office in November 2010 (her first elected post) and continued Florida’s fight against Obama Care that could end up paying her huge national political dividends.

Attorney General Bondi, who is easy on the eyes and extremely articulate, is a regular guest and legal analyst on Fox News. For years now, her frequent appearances on Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren’s shows have been and will continue to be very helpful should she decide to seek even higher office.

This headline last December from a website in her hometown of Tampa summed it up quite well, “Attorney General Bondi’s Ascent Has Been Meteoric”.

So last Saturday night as Congressman Allen West was literally bidding farewell to Broward County, forced, because of re-districting to seek his second term further north in friendlier Republican territory, he went out strong, profusely thanking all the Republicans in the room who gave him his start in politics after his return from a tour of duty as an Army Lieutenant Colonel in Iraq.

This November, whether West wins or loses his new Congressional seat, there is no doubt he will continue to be a “general” leading the charge against liberalism and socialism, fighting for America, in the national conservative army. However, it is doubtful that Allen West will ever hold the office of governor or senator.

But with Pam Bondi the opposite is true. It would be very surprising if she does not win one or both of those titles down the road.

From her perch as Attorney General — made even more high profile by Florida being the lead state in the Obama Care fight — coupled with her regular appearances on Fox News, Pam Bondi, at age 47 is someone who conservatives  need to watch carefully, and not just on cable.

This woman is impressive. I was there in the audience and the vibes she projected into that large ballroom were powerful enough to put her on a trajectory that might even propel her into the office with a distinctive oval shape.

In America, anything is possible.  The current occupant of that oval shaped office is certainly proof of that.

I love Allen West, so kinda hard to tell him to move over though… :) She’s definitely going places! I’d love to see her as AG under Romney– could happen since she endorsed him already!?

Combine that with her intelligence, and she is a very potent political player. I agree.

Hannity and Fox News aren’t exactly reliable indicators of conservatism .. and frankly, Myra, neither are you.

This is simply a polite reminder – don’t judge the book by its’ cover .. or the blurb on its’ dust jacket. Or, as my signature says, caveat suffragator. (voter beware)

Can you please tell me what are the reliable indicators of conservatism? And will these indicators ever be allowed to change?
Is there a conservative litmus test? Please name me one conservative leader who is a reliable indicator of conservatism and could get elected nationally or anywhere besides a deep southern state?

Then Gov Scott will have a Senate seat to fill…lots of possibilities..West, Bondi, among others..
gonne be very interesting here in the sunshine state

Governor Scott will fill his seat with Jeb Bush. Watch and see :)

If Nelson is re-elected, then Scott has a few folks to select from, including the loser to Nelson. It’s possible you could have Lemieux get selected for a second time to replace a Senator. Would that be a first? (If you really listen to Lemeiux, you might be impressed. and yes, I have some issues with Mack.)

          • GregInFla

Now maybe we can have Florida return to the old days: let the legislature select the (replacement) Senator.

If he’s the one going up against Nelson, then we’ve got a real shot at unseating him. Then if Rubio is tapped for VP and they win, we could get Jeb Bush, Allen West, Jeff Atwater…the list goes on :)

Hannity is not conservatism, although he may be a conservative. Ditto Rush. Definitely ditto Fox News over the last four years.

There are many litmus tests, a few include opposing abortion, opposing government handouts, opposing waste and corruption, supporting business growth through reduced red tape, supporting strong families through sensible education and tax reform, supporting the principle of making decisions at the lowest level possible rather than making a federal case out of every little thing.

For your information, I am not now, nor have I ever been “deeply southern” – I’m in the shadow of Chicago. I know from waste and corruption – conservatives oppose it. I know from confiscatory business-killing taxes, conservatives oppose them. I know from stifling red tape, conservatives want to slash and burn it.

I would strongly suggest that you pay a visit to Rep. Joe Walsh’s office and talk to him about what Conservatives are. Your D.C. myopia is blinding you.

the South isn’t particularly conservative — the Mountain Western states have a far better track record of economic liberty than the South. Heck, New Hampshire and (until recently) Vermont were better on issues of economic liberty until very recently.

I’m not sure where people got the idea that the South is a bedrock of conservatism — it wasn’t, until recently.

“Conservative == Religious Right”, ignoring the rather long battle between Goldwater and Falwell for control of the label…

Alas, those who don’t learn from history are doomed to re-implement it … poorly. No, wait .. that’s those who don’t learn from UNIX.

            opening for Rep. West . . . .

        • DavidS1787

she can demonstrate that she is a conservative and not just a party jumper .

The article below is a story of when Pam Bondi changed parties I thougt some people may be interested in reading.

And looked good in that role. It does seem that state AG is a common stepping stone to the governor mansion. Christie and that client #9 in NY come to mind. AG’s don’t have to vote on the laws, just enforce them (well, only if your name is not Eric Holder). As for me, I wish West was running for Senate this year. I have a problem with Connie Mack’s dedication to Florida, when his wife (Bono Mack) is a California congress-critter. He likely falls into the Lugar political animal category of living in DC, not his homestate.

would ever be elected Governor or Senator? Too many liberals in Florida or what?

    • acat

My diagnosis is D.C. Syndrome. I would value your thoughts.

He’s got to be one in a million in Chicago, right? LOL.

Second, I totally agree with you on the D.C. syndrome, especially given Myra’s body of work here at redstate. She never quite seems to get to the full-fledged conservative position.

Finally, it’s been a fun evening, hasn’t it? Especially when so many of us have had those depressing primary blues.

        • acat

Thing about Illinois is, other than Chicago and the counties around St. Louis, it’s a pretty Red State kind of a place…. but because of the Chicago machine, we rarely get a star like Joe through the statehouse. The bipartisan corruption is just .. insane.

And yes, this has been a very refreshing evening. I’m ready for tomorrow. Well .. maybe after a catnap.
