Washington Post Ignores the Latest “Obama Born In Kenya” Story

Here is a fun game all Red Staters can play.

Go to the Washington Post and watch how long, if ever, it takes them to mention the “Obama born in Kenya according to his literary agent in 1991″ bombshell story that is all over the Internet.  (Congrats to Erick Erickson whose angle on the story is MOST READ up at Real Clear Politics.)

But at this writing, if you look at the national “hometown” paper or web site the story does not exist. This is throwback to the old Soviet Union style of journalism.

Even ABC News is running with a piece about how Obama’s literary agent is saying this was all a mistake. (But at least give ABC credit for noticing the story which is more than I can say for the Washington Post.)

This is the same media outlet that made a national headline story out of Romney’s high school pranks, and a rock way out in west Texas.

So, according to the Washington Post, some possible new evidence that the President of the United States may be born outside the USA and therefore might even be an illegal president is less important than Romney’s behavior in high school. The Post quoted a dead man in that story. It can’t contact a live book agent for this one?

Maybe the Washington Post might want to explore the angle that our current President lied about being born in Kenya to his literary agent to sell more books, but was really born in Hawaii.

No matter how they decide to cover the story, for the Washington Post to completely ignore it is a tragic example how a major player in the mainstream media is not only failing its local readers and the American people, but losing whatever is left of its own credibility.

I know many Conservatives here have a sincere interest in spreading this finding, grounded in an exclusive desire to expose Obama’s history of fabrications and deceptions, especially to swing and independent voters in this crucial election.

*But that point is being missed and swept aside*. This is more dangerous than helpful to our cause, because too many Republicans (and right wing pundits with valuable media real estate better deployed, not to mention a humongous number of moby Dems) have been using this as tinder to re-ignite the birther movement – a giant black hole energy drain to conservative goals.

    So don’t be fooled.

Obama’s birth certificate is another distraction from allowing us focus on THE ECONOMY, stupid.

The document SHOULD be ignored, it’s a non-issue. Obama’s POLICIES are the issue and anything that distracts from the economy and Obama’s disastrous policies is a non-issue and is helping keep his poll numbers from completely cratering.

  • krish

This is definetly from the playbook of Axelrod & co!

Economy is Not only the top issue but is the ONLY issue that republicans should focus! Anything else would be a waste of precious air time!!

  • texasref

The fact of this Obama-approved literary review claiming Kenyan birth from 1991 to 2007 is one example of the kind of vetting of this candidate that is needed, and is better late than never. It goes to the man’s character, which is fair to assess in making a decision whether to give someone 4 years of the presidency. His positions on the issue are equally important, and the economy should remain the main focus…but not the sole focus.

Just because the economy is horrible and we can assign Obama blame for it to the point of winning the presidency in November does not mean we are not allowed to discuss other issues of importance, including character. In fact, we would be remiss not to take an all of the above approach to making our case, just as we should for energy policy.

  • barleycorn

The OP’s clear point was the bias of the Washington Post which is an important point no matter what best strategy for the Romney Campaign might be.

Furthermore “Obama’s birth certificate” wasn’t mentioned in the OP’s comments yet you blurt that phrase out in your opening line.

    As the Op wrote:

“Maybe the Washington Post might want to explore the angle that our current President lied about being born in Kenya to his literary agent to sell more books, but was really born in Hawaii.”

See? That has NOTHING to do with “Obama’s birth certificate”.

You’re the one who drug “Obama’s birth certificate” into the conversation.

  • gekster

    from Obamas ecoomic disaster.
If we focus on this. then the econamy doesn’t come into play, as more will focus on this, than the other

You should really wake up, but I doubt it..

  • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

If you want to go after him for this and for his former pastor and his birth certificate or anything else AFTER he’s lost the election I don’t give rip. Have at it.

This, now, is a distraction and helps him. The people who go after him on this crap look petty and partisan and are making it “personal”. The presidency can’t be fought that way because he’ll win hands down. Need an example? Look at Bill Clinton. Proven liar, proven philanderer, proven adulterer. Nobody cared and nobody cares.

This election must be won on the issues and this IS NOT an issue. Win on the issues and you not only beat Obama, you beat the left and their agenda. Go after him personally and he’s a victim being pursued by the evil white racists.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

So we’ve learned Obama is a liar. What’s new about that?

I also heard today that a theory is floating around that Malcolm X is Obama’s father. My response? It’s a distraction, followed by who cares and so what. What does that change? Absolutely nothing.

There are a dozen other provable reasons to vote Obama out without trying to confirm a conspiracy theory that has nothing to do with any of the legs of conservatism.

  • texasref

Bill Clinton’s adultery and lies about it were the focus of his second term, so it did not affect his election nor re-election. Furthermore, enough folks cared about it to the extent the House of Representatives impeached him for it. They never would have done that if they thought it wasn’t both A) politically advantageous and B) the right thing to do (in whichever order your cynicism or lack thereof chooses).

If that whole deal with ol boy had happened four years previously, we would have had a better shot at a President Dole, who, by the way, would probably agree with my point about Obama’s character and integrity being an issue, given that Dole was the one who complained “where’s the outrage?”

  • checkmate2012

and keep the debt clock ticking in full view- just as Romney is doing.

But just for fun, the other theory is it’s Frank Daivs from HI. I’m not pushing a theory and AGREE that it’s a waste of time on all this nonsense….let’s focus like a laser on the economy & policies and his record IN the Whitehouse.

  • texasref

with Breitbart website’s solid reporting on this. Slam-dunk Obama lied about his national origin to advance his career. This Malcolm X gossip is tin-foil brigade stuff not worthy of mention in the same breath as source-substantiated solid Breitbart journalism.

  • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

The media is working overtime though. The WaPo has an article today about Mormon “militias” of 150 years ago. Apparently Mitt is older than he looks.

  • texasref

I can understand you throwing in a snark to some tin-foiled commenter, but I bend over backwards to approach issues consistently in a thoughtful way, and I do not appreciate your snark line at the end about waking up. You are a respected commenter on this site, and so am I, and you didn’t need to start anything. The rest of your comment is just fine.

  • barleycorn

So no attention should be paid to any issue except the economy?

    That’s absurd.

I agree that Mitt Romney needs to stay focused but any and all blunders by Obama and Friends should be seized upon and flogged for all they are worth.

That is how you control the narrative and overcome the bias of the legacy media.

  • acat

Forget who aired it…but I remember it.

It’s interesting to watch the WaPo trying to – concurrently – use this mud to create the “base meme” that Romney is “different / alien” and suppress the “base meme” that Obama is “different / alien” …

“interesting”, by the way, in the same way as watching skateboarders wipe out is interesting. It’s not so much “wow, that’s amazing” as “wow, that looks like it *hurt*!”….

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

I love Breitbart, and while I appreciate the confirmation that Obama is a liar and the further exposition that the media is biased, I stand by my comment that it is a distraction, regardless of the fact that the story is accurate. I paid no attention to the Malcolm X story and told the person who mentioned it that I thought it a distraction as well, much like the birther stuff. It could all be true, but what difference would it make at this point?

What we need to be focusing on is the economy, jobs, the debt, religious freedom, and the million other things Obama is flushing down the toilet, whoever his father is or whereever he was born.

  • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

    for Republicans.

In point of fact, we had Clinton on the ropes on policy and some idiot decided that the Pres getting a bj in the Oval Office was more important than a clear policy win. So we impeached him.

The result? Clinton beat the tar out of us. He rallied the Dems, he rallied the nation. He was the First Victim. Obama will do even better if give any time at all to this C.R.A.P. If the bj had happened four years earlier, Clinton would have had a solid House and Senate majority in his second term and Al Gore would have been Pres in 2000.

One of the more important reasons Gore didn’t get elected is because he wouldn’t ask Clinton to campaign for him. In case you missed it, Clinton is held in high regard, has been since he got his victim act rolling and tons of people, including virtually ever Dem, would sell their souls to have him at the top of the ticket. And he’d win.

Dole was an idiot. The only real outrage in 96 is that we nominated him. If Bob Dole agreed with anything I said, I’d reevaluate my fundamentals.

  • texasref

I never looked at it that way. And yeah I’d rank the Dole nomination right down there with the Romney nomination.

Fortunately, the economy and Obama are so bad that a random name from the phone book could beat Obama, so we’re set.

  • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

Romney has a lot more going for him than Dole, for one thing he has some charisma, and for another he has executive experience. Dole was dour, uncharismatic, an old school party hack politician, and was a legislator.

  • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

I did vote against McCain in the 08 primary with a vote for Romney, only because he was the only non-McCain left alive by the time the primary in AZ rolled around. (This year I voted for Newt)

That said, Romney is 10,000% better than any creature of Washington, including and especially Dole and Santorum. He’s at least that much better than Huckabee too, Huck is nothing more than Mike Bloomberg with a southern twang.

Don’t kid yourself about having an easy time of it in November. This is going to be a death match all the way. On one side you’ve got a billion dollars – more if necessary, every union and all of the media. On the other side you’ve got every rational person in the country. I’m not sure that’ll be enough.

  • texasref

    nt

  • texasref

and let’s not forget that Huck may be just as big a nanny-stater as Bloomberg, but he is a conservative nanny-stater, so that counts for something.

As for Santorum, he is like Huck on steroids in the “I know best” department–I think he wouldn’t mind putting all us gays on an island, I just get that vibe about him. So yeah I agree with what you said about Romney being better than all the rest, and Newt being better with Romney, I just couldn’t help but find something to argue with you about :-)

If he was born in Kenya then his Hawaiian BC is obviously a fake and his “NBC” narrative is a lie.

You’re making a fool of yourself.

  • checkmate2012

Something “about being born in Kenya” peaked my interest as in it alludes to BC…it’s all part of the composite narrative for whatever works for today. Bogus stuff.

  • barleycorn

This diary concerns the WaPo’s ignoring false information that was peddled by Obama in 1991. That false information being that he claimed to be born in Kenya at a time it benefited him to have an exotic heritage.

The point here is not where Obama was born. The point is he told a lie.

Obama’s birth certificate was not part of this thread until you blundered in and insisted on yammering about it.

Logical thought progression certainly isn’t your strong point.

  • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

Take up drinking cheap wine, you’ll look less foolish.

  • acat

Obama stood behind this lie until 2007, right?

Have you heard a clear statement from the White House explaining this lie?

You’re right, it’s not about the birth certificate, but … it does link to the same anger … and unfortunately, will bring back some of the same false claims. (I am honestly surprised I haven’t seen a chain letter from Orly about this…) That said, at least 50% of the comments I’ve seen about this new find on other boards are from birfers… and that’s not *bad* as long as they’re not in charge.

I will further note, for your amusement, that enough Arizona voters have complained to their government that a formal investigation of Obama’s eligibility to be on the ballot in November is underway. This is separate from Sheriff Joe’s grandstanding and sending a deputy to Hawaii for a vacation. (erm, to “investigate”)

Yes, it’s not about where he was born, for those of us who are paying attention. It is, however, about creating doubt and mistrust.

I think I have failed to accurately explain my point.

Above I’m defending the original poster’s comments on media bias.

mbecker and gekster are apparently of the opinion that any subject which even tangentially touches on Obama’s birth should be off limits.

So for instance, if Obama holds a presser and announces that he’s know since childhood that his father was Ferdinand Marcos, conservatives should just pretend it didn’t happen.

Its an absurd position to take much less defend.

Yes, the Romney Campaign should focus on the important stuff but the rest of us can help by stirring the pot when another Obama lie surfaces.

The subject of the original post is that Barack Obama was not born in the US, thus he is not a “natural born” US citizen and thus he’s not “eligible” to be POTUS.

The whole point of the “birther” movement is that Barack Obama was not born in the US (if he was he’d produce his original birth certificate), thus he is not a “natural born” US citizen and thus he’s not “eligible” to be POTUS.

The subject is exactly one and the same as I pointed out. Publicizing this “story” only feeds into the “birther” meme and distracts the media from the only thing that matters, the economy and other political issues that will beat Obama.

You’re obviously just too dense to think beyond your eyelashes.
