Who Here Regrets Endorsing Rick Scott?

NOT ME, I DIDN’T SUPPORT HIM!!!

[N]o one has yet been able to answer WHY we should choose Rick Scott over Bill McCollum. Just because Rick Scott has never been in elected office, does not make him more of a good guy over McCollum. I mean, just look at Jesse Ventura’s tenure as Governor of Minnesota. The people hated him when he left office and he couldn’t run for a second term, even if he wanted to. Do not get me started on Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Again, I’m going with the proven leader over the unknown.

I still have no computer, but I’m currenting fighting against the clock right now to say I told you so.

Look, there is a time and place for unknowns. It’s called the US Congress. Or one of the state’s legislature. Even local office. Well, I told you so:

Doug Guetzloe, a conservative activist who has long fought SunRail, bashed Scott for “a fatal political error.” He noted that very conservative voters are responsible for what remains of Scott’s approval rating, which hovers around 30 percent in several polls.

“I think he just lost half of that, and I think he will now become the most unpopular sitting governor in the history of the state of Florida,” Guetzloe said.

Sen. Paula Dockery, a moderate Republican from Lakeland who was sympathetic to Scott in the primary, was also sharply critical of the move. Dockery has helped lead the charge against SunRail, saying the ridership projections don’t justify the state’s investment in the project.

“This morning, Governor Scott had his Secretary of Transportation announce that he will betray the trust of the conservative electorate who put him in office by moving forward with the least cost-efficient commuter rail project in the nation,” Dockery said in a blistering statement issued by her office. “This decision has completed the governor’s transformation from businessman to political insider.”

Scott also drew charges of hypocrisy from supporters of a high-speed rail line from Tampa to Orlando, a project backed largely with federal money that he canceled earlier this year.

“Governor Scott used all the right arguments to green light the wrong rail project,” said Sen. Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa.

I warned you. I warned you all that this might happen. We could have had a proven conservative governor, but no, we had to go with the “outside business man who has held no public executive office before.” Take out “business” and you have Barack Hussein Obama in a nutshell.

Rick Scott will now become our Jesse Ventura and, if we are unlucky enough, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Let’s just hope there is no sex scandale waiting in the wings.

Come, I will hide nothing from you. I did not vote for Rick Scott. I voted for Jennifer Carroll and I’ll stick to that story, and it’s the truth.

So, there you have it. Love me, hate me, take it, or leave it. Like Rush Limbaugh, I do not jump on the bandwagon. I am not a trend setter. And I call it like I see it. I will continue to do so in the future. If I agree with you, then we have an accord. If I don’t agree with you, then I will have a darn good reason for it and will explain my stance.

Scott has already done many things that conservatives applaud. So let’s give him some credit.

As to this Sun Rail decision, while I wish he hadn’t done it, I will give him a pass, for the following reasons:

He made his decision on the basis of the SAME criteria that he used to veto the hi-speed rail proposal.

The state’s financial commitment is capped..an ycost overruns, and future operating deficits, will fall to the local and county governments in the area.

As conservatives, we profess to believe that governmentwhich is closest to the people is best. It’s their choice.

If I read the bill correctly, over 35% of the state’s contribution will go to CSX for use of their rails. In return, CSX is mandated to spend ALL of these funds to improve the raillines in the area. This will greatly benefit freight rail in the area. This will allow many more goods to flow efficiently to and from the port of Tampa, as well as feed down to the Port of Miami..It has the potential to make Florida a great port area for international trade. THis wiull be GOOD for business and for Florida’s overalll economy.

Look, lke Scott or not, he is NOT an idiot. No way he believes that all his politicl opponents, the Dems/libs who loathe and detest him, will now all of a sudden adore him simply because of this one decision. So he’s not hoping to curry any favor, gain any political advantage from this.

Maybe he believed that on the merits, it was an acceptable decision to make.

BTW, don’t you find it just a tad strange that you quote Paula Dockery, of all people to support your viewpoint. If I had to choose between Dockery and Scott on the merits of the issues, it’d be Scott 95% of the time, I suspect.

Again, personally, I wish he hadn’t done it ( and I live in Tampa, so the decision will impact me personally) but he is being consistent to a great extent.

    Have a great 4th..

it is doing what we are supposed to do, critiquing the ones who run this country.

We have spent way too many years giving our party a pass, exposing everything a dem does, but staying silent when one of our own messes up or screws us. Their side has an affair, we raise hell. One of our own does the same thing, we excuse it away.

Most of us have learned the hard lesson given to us from 2004 and on. Every time we see BHO’s name as president, we remember. We will not nitpick every little thing, but something like this rail project deserves our condemnation. If we were to not condemn it, the voters will and we will lose the next time they speak.

The rail situation was dumb and Gov Scott will either listen to our calls of disgust and do the right thing or he will chose to defy the very ones who put him in power and he will lose us all.

I am glad he signed off and I will be riding it as soon as it is done. Unless you live in the Orlando area, you really don’t have a clue what is going on here. We have one major freeway and that’s it. Traffic continues to get worse and worse. It takes me 1 1/2 yours to drive 30 miles.

Second, if you had a clue of the legal issues, you would realize that Scott is not king, and legally he would have lost if he had canceled Sunrail. The legal issue are completely different that HSR and he would have easily lost in court. Contracts have already been signed (long before Scott took office) and money has been spent.

So, before you go ripping some one, take some time, and do your homework. It is not conservative to go blindly attacking when you don’t know the issues.

I do have my facts. I collectively called them Tri-Rail and Amtrak. Look them up.

      • http://twitter.com/biggator5 BigGator5

Tri-Rail took in about $10.3 million in operating revenues in fiscal year 2010, largely from ticket sales. Operating expenses totaled $54.5 million in FY 2010. A total of 3.6 million riders used Tri-Rail in fiscal year 2010, down from 4.2 million riders in FY 2009.

It’s all there, BLACK AND WHITE!

And where do you think that $44.5 Million came from? Do you honestly think SunRail will actually do any better?
