MEMBER DIARY

Gee, the Republicans aren’t living up to their promises. What, oh what, should we do?

Oh my goodness! The “conservative” Republican House and Senate leaders don’t seem to want to live up to their promises to cut spending and cut taxes and undo regulations!!!! Oh goodness, what, oh what, should we in the “center-right” of America do?

If you are Hugh Hewitt, you tell your radio audience to “call your representative and senators.” How’s that been working out for us?

Consider the possibility that our “conservative” Republican congresscritters really don’t care about the phone calls and faxes and e-mails. Consider the possibility they only care about one thing and one thing only: whether they’ll win their next primary election. And if that’s the case, ought we not get into the best position to make sure they don’t survive their next primary election?

If you think that might be a possible strategy that maybe, just maybe, might work, go to the links below.

And get Erick Erickson’s book, Red State Uprising. And check out the last chapter, Take Back America, and the section, Take Back The Party. The strategy of filling up all the vacant “voting member” slots of the Party at the precinct level works. I know it does first-hand. It’s just common sense. But it requires that we conservatives unite and organize where we live. Inside our Party. Especially in light of the fact that, on average, in every local Republican Party committee, about half of the “voting member” slots — called “precinct committeeman” in most states (every state has its own system an terminology) — are vacant.

Consider this: http://www.redstate.com/coldwarrior/2011/03/22/want-to-change-john-boehner-it%E2%80%99s-up-to-the-conservatives-in-his-district/

Or, fellow conservative Republican Redstaters, let’s just keep doing what we’ve been doing.

By the way, becoming a “card carrying” member of the Republican Party is fun. And, hint, the Party is not exactly advertising that about half of the precinct-level “voting member” slots of the Party are not filled. And they are not exactly advertising how easy it is to become a voting member of the Party. Because it’s not in their self-interest to do so. The status quo means they all get reelected.

So I hope you will consider becoming a voting member of the Party. Check out the links below if you are so inclined.

Thank you.

For Liberty,

ColdWarrior

The very kind of conservatives that talked the talk in 2010 that our kind of precinct committeemen wanted to send to DC got up there and immediately discovered their inner coward.

Yes, I heeded the call to populate GOP precinct committee positions with Reagan/tea partier conservatives, i.e. me.

But it seems that human nature intervenes given that less than 30 of the 90 so-called tea partiers have stuck to their guns through shutdown and debt ceiling votes, among others.

Why? Because they lack courage and at some level character. But them who doesn’t want to be liked and get along with one’s colleagues. Hence my proposal or amending the Constitution to move the legislature among the state capitals in revolving terms of 8 years beginning in Montgomery, Alabama.

But seriously, probably the only way we can fix the fiscal house in time before another crippling crisis is by a courageous Presidential nominee that sells a bold plan and that is, like Reagan, so feared that even blue dogs pass the tax cuts.

PS One thing I am doing in my position here in DeKalb County, Georgia is keeping the pressure on Hank Johnson! smile

DC is a machine that takes all kinds of inputs, and churns out a blended product. It is a powerful one that will assimilate even the most well intentioned newcomer.

CW’s work is critical to keep pushing new, better inputs(conservative reps/sen) to make change. I suppose we’ll have to suffer while continuing to get enough critical mass to change the culture of DC.

We also have to change the process that turns out a bland product as well as improving the inputs.

How we do it? GC’s idea is a good one and we need more ideas. It starts with brainstorming, discussion, and asking the question.

Can the states do some initiative to require their congresscritter to be home X% of the time? With todays technology we can have remote video discussions/votes to keep congresscritters in their home state more often and away from the DC machine.

I believe that the PC project is important, but so is a conservative takeover of institutions, including the media and academia.

As Mr. DeVine said, who doesn’t want to be liked by colleagues etc.? But the pressure brought to bear on our people is also from the media. I heard someone on tv who was in Washington talking about how when you get there, not only is everyone you talking to a danged lib, but everything on TV, radio, etc. is liberal. So you subconsciously begin to think that the whole world is lib, and you feel isolated.

There are, I believe, 2 approaches to this problem:

      1. Make your ‘conservative’ congresscritter more afraid of his/her constituents than of the Washington establishment by using local media and rallies. Set up your own if needs be.
      2. Take a national approach to media, which is a much more long-term approach.

As for the character issue, one place that character is formed is in school. The perverse ‘values’ being promulgated there are the result of liberal takeovers of school boards, teaching, BESE boards, curriculum determination and universities. this is an entirely different issue, but completely relevant and vital to the future of our country.

On the one hand we focus on presidential races. On the other Cold Warrior is advocating a bottom up strategy that takes hardcore leftists decades to accomplish. It should be tried, but in the meantime, we may be missing the opportunities because we aren’t targeting the best near term opportunities..

CW’s strategy could use a tweak in my view: a Red State-promoted full course press for conservative precinct captains in 10 or 20 key congressional districts. Don’t ignore the rest, just try to make the conservative takeover happen fast in some select districts. While it’s not exactly analogous, the focus on Utah Senator Bennett in 2010 by Red State contributed to his defeat. We should be road-testing the acceleration of CW’s approach in some of these House districts.

I am trying to do that locally with my local GOP Committee. You basically have to make the case to every conservative you run into that it is in their best interest to give up some time and organize. What I know about the Democrats here in NH, their organization is mostly union based with a State Party raking in out of state money and building a large staff. That is what we are up against.

          Really?

          Prove it.

Saying such things do not make them so.

Redstate calls itself an “influential” conservative web site.

Influential how? Maybe to the “chattering classes.” But in terms of actual voter turnout. I think not.

If Redstate had ANY impact on the outcome of the Utah primary convention outcome in 2010, I sure would like to see the evidence. I’d like to hear from the 2,101 delegates to the Utah primary convention that they were stirred to action by Redstate.

I said at the time that, in actuality, the ONLY people who had a hand in taking out RINO Sen. Bobbie Bennett were the Utah Republican voters who actually figured out “how it works” in Utah and then “did it.” And, ultimately, a mere 2,101 Utah Republicans made the difference.

P.S. Tonight at a fledgling tea party meeting in Chandler, AZ, I signed up five new Arizona Republican precinct committeeman. It only took about ten minutes.

If you want to achieve a “Red State-promoted full course press for conservative precinct captains in 10 or 20 key congressional districts” then hit the Contact button and ask the “powers that be” here to make it happen.

My Congress Critter in South Dakota is one of the betrayers too. She has been cooped by the establishment and still mouthing the tea party line expecting us to not know the difference.

Multiple emails and calls have already occurred. I am not stopping there either.

Just at the moment when it appears that our Republican Congress is betraying us, Rick Perry unveils his plan to reform Washington D.C.

One thing he proposes is a part time citizen congress. He wants to cut their pay, staff, and time in Washington in half and allow them to get jobs in the private sector while serving.

Moe Lane has an outline of Perry’s plan here:

    http://www.redstate.com/moe_lane/2011/11/15/perrys-government-reform-speech/

In the comments are some thoughts on how this could be accomplished by the president.

    • donald_24

Allowing members of Congress to hold jobs in the private sector deeply concerns me since it opens up the door to conflicts of interest. It is almost 100% guaranteed that a member of Congress is going to have to vote on legislation affecting the company or industry they are employed in.

long-term,, it is the only strategy for a revived Republican party.

Imagine a Republican party that was top to bottom, wall to wall, corner to corner, floor to ceiling, stuffed with thoroughgoing, pearl-handled, 32-carat Conservatives.

And who our candidates would be if it were…

  • http://redmerrimack.blogspot.com/ charliebravoNH

to lead a movement to the right of the leadership. The one thing Boehner and Cantor have done a good job getting tea party supported candidates to fold by dangling the “fundraising carrot”.

One thing PCs and GOP Party members can do is write letters to the editor to their local newspapers and news sites demanding someone
to challenge the incumbent “Boehner tool” in their districts.

  • boonerdan

My freshman congressman ran as a so-called TP conservative. Once in office, he has fallen right in line with Boehner on every vote. Fund raising is not an issue, as this is as safe a GOP district as there is. The GOP has held the seat since the 50′s.

I believe one of the above posters hit the nail on the head. Most of them lack character and are simply dishonest! Corruption is rampant on both sides of the aisle and they are drunk with power and greed.

I suggest you study the Roman empire, as we are running that playbook to the letter. How did that work out?

    • determinedconservative

Sounds like your congressman needs to get primaried. Surely you’re not the only one outraged by his betrayal? Heck, maybe you could run against him!

  • morstar150

but that will not happen until we change the occupant of the white house.

In the house Ryan and Cantor are good but they need to get Boehner out of the way. Then we need to get McConnell out of the picture.

This election cycle is sooo important to the survival of our nation. It is not just about the presidency it is about and maybe more about a new direction in Congress. Elect conservatives to Congress, don’t give up on your TP person. They have been beaten over the head by the establishment and do not have the power to take over yet. Dump Olympia Snowe in Maine and put in someone who can bring us back to country with strength. That’s just one example.

Get true Conservatives in there as a choice to the people that are currently in the Republican Party. Some of these old dogs need to go. BTW…their mindset is the same as Romney’s..and perhaps…Newtie
