RS

MEMBER DIARY

Should we conservatives focus on helping to GOTV?

To ask the question is to answer it.

Of course we conservatives ought to help “nudge” more of our voters to the polls.

I keep waiting for instruction from the old-timers here at RS, about all this nitty-gritty, precinct level, stuff, but those instructions never come. But I understand why. Can’t instruct about what you’ve never experienced.

So, HOW will YOU help GOTV (Get Out The Vote)? What works? What endeavors can you PROVE work?

Diaries at RS? Tweets?

Gee. Did you know that Obama is a bad guy? And that the Dems do bad things? RS will tell you this. Since the Marxist was elected. Thank you very much.

Will Diaries about that get more of the “vote 50% or less of the time in the last four primary and general elections” Republican voters to the polls?

Will all the squabbles here at RS help GOTV?

Will every RS visitor/contributor/FPer actually make a real effort to GOTV? Targeted phone calls? Targeted precinct walks? Targeted text messages? All coordinated with their candidates?

I CANNOT WAIT FOR ALL THE POSTS HERE AT RS RECOUNTING HOW RS MEMBERS AND FRONT PAGERS HELPED TO GOTV THROUGH PHONE CALLS AND/OR DOOR VISITS AND/OR OTHERWISE. That will come after Nov. 6, not before. What a great set of “best practices” and “lessons learned” that will be.

Will YOU actually go door-to-door with a “hanging bag” of voter recommendations for your fellow Republicans? To hang on their door knob? Do you know how to do this? (I did this today with my kids.)

Best way to make that happen? Well, if you have already become a voting member of our Party (called precinct committeeman in most states), you already know. If not, pick up the phone, get on the net, whatever, and figure out where you live how to get involved in helping to get out the vote and/or helping to “true the vote” (become a poll worker or poll watcher).

Can’t figure out anything more? Go to http://mittromney.com and sign up to make GOTV calls.

Are you “in” the Republican Party? No, I don’t mean have you checked the box or have asked for a Republican primary ballot (voting laws vary from state to state). No, what I want to know is what the RS FP-ers have never asked: are you “in” the Republican Party in your state? I wonder how many of the FP folks are actually “card carrying” members of the Republican Party in their respective states.

So:

What will you do to help get out the vote?

What will you do to help “true the vote” — will you volunteer to become a poll worker or poll watcher?

What will you do in the future to become a voting member of the Party?

For liberty,

CW

There is an aspect of Romney that some complain about, yet for which others understand and have respect. He’s done many great things in his leadership, but he doesn’t really talk about them. Personally, I attribute it to his Christian background – the Bible is very clear on the point that God doesn’t want us to boast. Further, what does boasting actually accomplish? If the goal is to say, “Look what I’ve done, what have YOU done?” and try to guilt people into action, then I suppose boasting would be the route one could take. It seems though that true leadership calls us to instruct others in a positive way and help them understand how their actions can have a meaningful effect on their lives and the world around them. Each of us has a role to play – whether it be writing, going door to door, quietly going through tedious paperwork that must be done or providing information via the news. There are no 1%ers at RS and everyone is a part of this community, even the frontpagers. Disrespecting those around us doesn’t bring more to our cause, it simply tears down the ones who are already here. I am willing to bet there are many in our community like Romney, who do the work that needs to be done and don’t waste time, for lack of a better phrase, tooting their own horn. To them, like Romney, goes the respect; for whatever they are doing is better than doing nothing and just saying, “thank you,” may even encourage them to do more…

Quickly, since I’m too busy today with stuff related to GOTV recruitment, but anyone who wants to get involved should consider getting in touch with a Liberty Headquarters to start knocking on doors if you’re in a swing state, or phone banking if you’re remote.

      Neil, I’m confused. T

Impossible. I’ve been informed that no one here does GOTV. You are clearly lying sir.

I’m not entirely sure if you’re more trying to complain about RedState or encourage people to engage in GOTV efforts.

Cut the RedState bashing and over the top histrionics and get to the point.

In March of 2011 RS had a “mission statement.”

    http://www.redstate.com/coldwarrior/2011/03/10/redstates-purposes-and-how-best-to-carry-them-out/

Here’s what I wrote about it:

    >>>>>

I took a look at the professed purposes of Redstate, which you can find here (Go to Help, click on the “rules for posting”).
    Here they are:
    The purpose of RedState.com is:
    * to promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party,

    * to clean house in the Republican party,

    * to help elect conservative Republicans,

    * and to encourage and educate conservative Republican activists committed to the above.
These are very good purposes. And it seems to me the best, most
effective way to carry them out is for each of us to become a “player”
inside the Republican Party. And that means becoming a precinct
committeemen, if possible. And in the unlikely event that all the slots
are filled, no matter — just become a “helper” to another precinct
committeeman and learn the ropes and help out until a vacancy comes into
being. Indeed, on average, in every locale in the country, more than
half of the precinct committeeman slots are unfilled, so you’ll have a
very good chance of filling up a slot that’s begging for a warm,
    conservative body. Yours.
Back to the Redstate purposes. Let us examine them one at a time.
How best “to promote conservative ideals within the
vehicle of the Republican Party?” If you want to get inside “the vehicle
of the Republican Party,” you have to open its door, so to speak, and
climb in. The door you have to open is your local committee meeting door
    — that is where you’ll learn how to become a voting member of the
Party, a precinct committeeman. At those meetings, and during the
leadership elections, where you’ll be able to vote for the Party leader
candidates (only precinct committeemen get to do this), you’ll be best able to “promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party”
How best “to clean house in the Republican Party?”
Become a Republican Party member, because you aren’t really “in” the
Republican Party until you become a voting member of it.
How best “to help elect conservative Republicans?”
Become a Republican Party precinct committeeman, so you can help get out
the vote in the all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary
elections for the conservative Republican candidates.
But you better hurry. Because in some states, the deadlines have
already passed for becoming a voting member of the Party during the
    upcoming 2012 election cycle.
    Thank you.

Can't find a mission statement on the site now.

Hard to know where one is going, and whether one is getting close to the destination, when one has not stated the destination.

    Thank you.
