Democrats are trying to push Santorum over the top in Michigan

It’s becoming more and more evident that Democrats, including Democrat party machine, are trying to sabotage the election in Michigan in favor of Santorum. Clearly they’ve decided, and with good reasons, that Santorum would be a much weaker General Election opponent, or even if he doesn’t win, a Michigan win would further bloody Romney, and delay the nomination victory.

From DailyKos (Democratic Meddling leads to nailbiter in Michigan):

Early last week, Mitt Romney appeared to be pulling away from Rick Santorum in Michigan. However, the Obama Super PAC, the Obama campaign, and MoveOn all engaged with an anti-Romney ad barrage, and it appears to be turning the tide

Like I wrote last week, this is a multi-pronged effort to deliver Santorum the victory in Michigan—the first is the big-money campaign to drive Romney’s numbers down among independents (who can obviously vote in this primary), and the second is our modest (and yes, controversial) effort to get Democrats to cast very legal and proper votes for Rick Santorum. The Michigan Democratic Party has also engaged, urging Democrats in the state to cast votes in the primary, and reminding them that casting such votes in no way prohibits them from voting in Democratic contests later in the year.

PPP just came out with their last poll before the primary and it’s a tight one:

PPP’s final poll in Michigan finds Rick Santorum holding on to the smallest of leads with 38% to 37% for Mitt Romney, 14% for Ron Paul, and 9% for Newt Gingrich… Much has been made of Democratic efforts to turn out the vote for Santorum and we see evidence that’s actually happening. Romney leads with actual Republican voters, 43-38. But Santorum’s up 47-10 with Democratic voters, and even though they’re only 8% of the likely electorate that’s enough to put him over the top. The big question now is whether those folks will actually bother to show up and vote tomorrow.

PPP further tweeted: “55% of Santorum Democrats in Michigan like him, 40% don’t. Looks like mix between sincere votes and Operation Hilarity”

So when and if Santorum prevails tomorrow, let’s  not pretend it was the pure will of the anti-Romney conservatives. We got the Left fully engaged and pulling for good ole Rick.

Update: Santorum’s campaign is engaging in it too:

Earlier Monday, Santorum’s campaign confirmed it was using robo calls rallying Democratic voters to come out to the polls Tuesday and cast their ballots against Romney.

Way to go Ricky! Get those liberal democrats out to vote, because you know they will turn out for you in November… Disgusting.

Obama and the secret service gave Romney Secret Service protection after Florida.

Their think tanks and human resources have been preparing to launch a campaign against Romney since last year. They want the primaries over and out of the way.

I smell shenanigans and a hoax here… a day before the primary.

I think their aim is to confuse voters. The robocalls may just be to give Romney ammunition to confuse voters at the last second in what is to be a very tight primary.

that they are using these robocalls… Sorry, but I don’t believe they want Romney.

the robocalls will only reach a few people but story about it will reach far many more on TV, radio, and the internet.

Romney is their ideal GOP challenger. He’s considered the least dangerous Republican to the leftist movement, the most predictable, and the one with weakest grassroots support. As a GOP governor of a Democrat state he cut and ran after one term and he wasn’t known for picking ideological fights with them. His biggest achievement was by implementing a form of socialized medicine… a hot issue for Democrats since Hillary Clinton brought it up in the 1990s.

He’s a wedge by which they hope to divide and conquer.

Like I said… they are so sure about him… Obama and the Secret Service decided to give him armed security.

Obama would destroy Romney. Romney signed a gun ban, gave us Obamacare, strapped his dog to the roof to his car, was not pro-life until he ran for president, and raised fees as governor. In addition while he has elite organization, there’s only so much one can do making chicken salad out of chicken you know what. Why do so many people just not like him? There’s a reason, and this happened in 2008 as well.

Santorum is also an underdog and has his weaknesses, but at least he’s got people who really actually like the guy. He’s also pro-life. He’s pro-2nd Amendment. He voted for balanced budgets as a senator (and to be far, Bush’s budgets). He also is the only one saying anything positive about manufacturing jobs.

I voted for Santorum. He at least will help us downticket by getting base voters to the polls.

because of Santorum being a fringe candidate is significantly higher than the amount who might be turned off by Romney. Santorum does not help downticket. We will lose congress. When women find out the extent of his views, the center will not hold.

Romney has little to no blue collar appeal whatsoever. He also won’t get the gun owners vote (2nd most important to down ticket), pro-life vote (most important to down ticket), or even a lot of fiscal conservatives with Obamacare. A lot of the base and blue collar social conservatives (not always republican) will stay home or even vote Obama because of the devil they know or fiscal populism. Romney’s as much a fringe candidate as Santorum.

Just goes to show he isn’t worthy of the nomination. Suck it up Mittens.

    • Repair_Man_Jack

GOP Candidates *should* call the Dems during the Primary. If you don’t start selling now, when?

That’s why these robocalls are a big deal to me. I’ve been sitting back not commenting for a few weeks because even though I prefer Romney, I thought Santorum was an honest man. But these robocalls ask Democrats to vote for Santorum because Romney wouldn’t have saved the auto industry. But IIRC Santorum said he would be against it too. That’s dishonest. I don’t like it.

I guarantee that if this were Romney encouraging Dems to select the R candidate you guys would have a BIG problem with it!

  • Juggernaut

in action. Every vote is a vote no matter whom they vote for in November. People voted for Hillary to keep Obama from winning. It didn’t work in most states but when dems organize, all hell can break loose.

Romney is a fringe candidate, a medicare scandal crook and serial liar. He campaigns like a weak liberal zealot.
