The Post-Racial President and the end of Government institutionalized Racism

Since the Sherry Sherrod debacle, and the Federal Government approved Racism, I have been considering what in 2010 has become of the State of Race in America. I am old enough to remember forced busing and the immediate and important results of Affirmative Action in its first decade. I remember thinking then, that it was a good idea that those who had been hurt by the system here in the greatest Country on Earth should be given a fair shot. That was in the mid-70′s. Today, 35 years later, we see the ABUSE that White Americans and especially White Men, are receiving–similar to what Black Americans once received. Historically, the Democrat Party institutionalized racism against Blacks, and now it is the Democrat Party that is institutionalizing racism against Whites. This Country is one based on the FREEDOM of all men and women, and when one race gets preference over another, then it is at the expense of someone else’s FREEDOM!

I am really amused that my Senator here in Virginia Webb actually addresses this disparity and the Maccaca winner is….

In an odd historical twist that all Americans see but few understand, many programs allow recently arrived immigrants to move ahead of similarly situated whites whose families have been in the country for generations. These programs have damaged racial harmony. And the more they have grown, the less they have actually helped African-Americans, the intended beneficiaries of affirmative action as it was originally conceived.

First off James, can I call you James? Americans DO SEE IT but few have the means to fight it. When a Government institutionalizes any behavior you will ALWAYS have a negative effect. I have children in their 20s who are fine, upstanding White men who have lived their entire lives being put upon because they are NOT another skin color. When I think back to that first heady decade after the Civil Rights Laws went into effect, never could I have imagined that I would, decades later, be writing about my own sons being discriminated against. I believe that as the Government involves itself more and more into the minutia of our everyday lives, bad, unintended consequences, are the result. The Federal Government usually attempts to correct bad consequences with more regulation, etc. however, with Race Based Policies they liked what they saw and they PILED ON!

Barack Obama may not want to have a conversation on race but by God this Country certainly does. I have watched contracts in the construction field go to Black owned and Women owned firms while White owned firms have been shut out, is that fair? HELL NO! I have watched trillions of dollars go to Race-based programs while poor White families have been shut out, is that fair? HELL NO! I submit that after 50+ years of social engineering with ALL Americans that WE The People can handle a FAIR and EQUITABLE Country without the interference of the Federal Government. I submit that if the Federal Government would just get out of the way that ALL Americans would show their TRUE COLORS and be just fine.

I wrote about Race concerns a year ago, since then the situation has deteriorated. It worsened because the NAACLP decided to help the Obama White House by calling the TEA Party Movement racist when it damn well is not. I will note that the unintended consequences of that action is the BLOWBACK of this week. I submit to you that a new day is dawning in America and that day does not include race-based politics. It will take some time to unravel the stupidity that is written into every bill with regards to race including the new Banking Bill but it will be done. It will be done with the approval of the MAJORITY of Americans. a year later, the endgame is near.

    do blacks a disservice, too.

What’s happening is allowing a certain segment of that population to speak for all of them, much like how Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton once purported to speak for all of them.

The majority of their numbers are just like us with the same basic human needs and thirst for freedom and really don’t care if you’re black, white, in-between, red, or yellow as long as your honest and treat each other with the respect that is due a fellow human being.

  • mriggio

The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.

    Cheers!

the bottom line is that SOCIAL ENGINEERING is killing this Country and creating division where none NATURALLY occurs!

        • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

Like most government sponsored enterprises it can only exist if manipulations behind the scenes can assure its continuance.

But they’re not so behind the scenes anymore, are they?

Whether or not, her little 24 year old story was a set up or not, as someone else said here at RS, Breitbart went fishing for minnows, and caught a whale.

How many of us would have known about her settlement (shakedown) with the feds for $13 million, plus? The funds have not yet been approved by Congress. With the help of Charles Grassley, they tried to stick the funding in Stimulus II, but, it had to be removed because of a Republican filibuster over it. Now they have added it to the War Funding supplemental, which also includes money for border security?, and gulf oil spill cleanup? It has not yet passed the Senate. I think that is the legislation that the Senate sent back to the house, and requested that all the add ons be removed.

    http://beginningfarmers.org/vilsack-and-holder-announce-pigford-ii-usda-settlement-with-black-farmers/

Here is a link to what appears to be the history of the Pigford case from the beginning.

    http://www.nationalaglawcenter.org/assets/crs/R520430.pdf

The Pigford people, with Shirley of course, have already received $100 million in settlement money from the 2008 discretionary spending section of the budget. Please note that the $1.25 billion is said to be only the beginning. Years ago, anyone joining onto the lawsuit had to prove that they were harmed, and, that they suffered more than white farmers. The case has been going on since the 80′s, and, not surprisingly, only when we get the racist Holder in the admin, they settle it for big bucks. Now, you don’t even need proof that you were harmed, you just need to be black. I believe Shirley said that the $1.25 billion was not enough.

Thank you our good Lord, the light is now shining directly on the fact that this admin. is taking it upon itself to pay reparations, and, if it wasn’t for Shakedown Shirley, we would have been none the wiser. I started wondering why the Congressional Republicans didn’t make a stink about this, and, have actually been pretty quiet about it. Silly me, the R’s are scared to death of being called racist. They don’t understand that you only need to have an R after your name to qualify as being a racist.

    • JadedByPolitics

have committed to SHAKING DOWN all Americans for something that 99% of Americans NEVER had a hand in. I saw on Beck’s show MLK’s niece who talked about reparations however her group is looking to be paid from the COMPANIES that grew huge off the backs of slaves and to tell the truth I really do not have a problem with that because there is extensive knowledge that they did just that. It is like the Jews who went after the companies who helped the Germans the slaughter them.

If the people don’t trust the Government, the Media or Big Business the people MUST take back America!

    • redbullx10

Shirley stated it perfectly. It is not about black and white, but about the poor and those who have. I am reminded of the Biblical passage, 2 Samuel 12: 1-2.

The rich take from the poor. Well connected folk had the USDA pick winners and losers. As Shirley pointed out, white and black farmers were losing their farms. Agribusiness wanted more.

In the case of black farmers, USDA actions were so egregious it could not be swept under the rug. They were far more subtle with white farmers. So Shirley’s correct, 1.25 billion is not enough. All who were persecuted by USDA should be compensated.

      • Scope

You ignore the truth that Shakedown Shirley wants retributions, pure and simple. There are/were tons of white farmers that lost their farms as well. Good ole Shirley only talked about helping ONE.

This has everything to do with RACE, and pilfering the public taxpayer coffers for REPARATIONS. And like Shakedown Shirley said herself $1.25 billion is only the start.

Thank God she brought light to this debacle before it is funded in Congress. Thank you Andrew Breitbart for always staying one step ahead of the race baiters who call everyone with an R after their name a racist. Pathetic, just pathetic.

      • 6eorge Jetson

That’s the problem with government subsidies. It’s never enough, so you Statists demand more. See how that worked out for Greece.

“Well connected folk had the USDA pick winners and losers.”. I’m shocked. Shocked! Hmmn…When the Federal Govt gives out hundreds of billions of farm subsidies, why do the well-connected lobby for it? And why did Willie Sutton, the famous bank robber rob banks? Because that’s where the money is.

When you suppport the ruling class, you are supporting more of this corporate cronyism. And of course Farmer Boy Chuck Grassley was in favor of transferring taxpayer wealth to his special interest group.

      • 6eorge Jetson

In a way, I actually agree with that four-word statement.

But not because it’s about rich vs poor, oh-no!

It’s about the Statist ruling class, that never met an issue it wouldn’t address without granting itself more power. The ruling class LOVES to pick winners and losers, and shockingly–SHOCKINGLY–it always picks itself as a winner.

While it may be firstly about race for some of the troops, the quest for power is a better predictor of the Ruling Class’s behavior. The Race Industry is one level below the supreme objective, much like the Army is only one branch of the military.

Although starting out, there may be a good reason for the national government to take action, when money is added, the Dogs get an appetite. It is next to impossible to stop a government funded small market niche like race relation repair. When the bell rings (a word is spoken about race), the so-called experts start salivating. Their is a meal at the end of the condemnations.
I believe Webb’s main concern in writing this, is after the huge influx of capitol last year from the fed, large pockets of people were passed by. They were passed by because of rules already in place for “equal” distributions of funds. White Citizens didn’t stand a chance.
I went to the Small Business Administration site last year to check out what it takes to get a loan. The first page after a click, immediately asks what your race is. How does this impact your likelyhood of repaying a loan? Most politics just comes down to economics anyway. I hardly bother discussing ideology anymore.
    Good article!

Sherrod’s epiphany is truly courageous. She went from being a full blown racial bigot to a classist bigot. Congratulations!! That’s why the Obama administration is so contrite. They went after a Fellow Traveler when they should have given her a medal for her selfless adherence to the collectivist narrative. Of course it’s better to discriminate and hate on the basis of a perceived class membership. We have to hate someone, right? We may as well hate those evil rich people and demonize success. God forbid we just judge our fellow Americans at their deeds and not some artificially constructed label.
Bravo Shirley, for showing us where our hate is misplaced and where our hate should be directed. Really, the left is such a warm, fuzzy, tolerant group.

As explained to me by my supervisor:

When a position becomes available, it is posted for a period of time, including a description of the duties and required background to qualify for it.

If no minorities apply for the position, then regardless of the number of qualified applicants who have applied but are not minorities, they then “re-canvas” in hopes of getting a minority to apply.

Once this procedure is complete, they look at the ‘numbers’ for the department that is doing the hiring, to see if they’re ‘low’ on a particular minority group. If so, and one of the applicants is of the correct minority, they get the job.

I asked if they didn’t think they’d get sued if they did this in reverse, the answer was, “oh, of course”. I was then told that I was lucky because when I applied, no minorities applied to either the initial posting or the re-canvas, and that I’d probably be ok for promotions because my departments ‘numbers’ were good (we have a lot of minorities already), which means they can actually promote based on ability since the quotas are already met.

We’re a private company, I’m sure its worse in government or universities. Somehow, I doubt this was Dr King’s Dream.

    • JustLeaveMeAlone

Although I’m white, I’m also female — and during much of my career, that put me in a huge minority in my profession. When I started with a Wall Street firm in 1981, I was one of the very few women who weren’t secretaries. When I was named associate VP in 1985, I was only the second woman to ever had that title.

Nothing infuriated me more than to be treated differently because I was female. I don’t mean worse; I mean better! I didn’t want favors. I didn’t want handouts. I wanted a truly LEVEL playing field; then, my accomplishments (or lack thereof) would be truly my own.

I hated when “the boys” would be talking, and one of them would cuss, and he’d immediately look at me and apologize. Why? Were my ears too delicate? Was I thought to be too fragile? Grrr, it still makes me mad.

I once had this discussion with a black female colleague. While she shared many of my sentiments and frustrations, she also told me that I didn’t know “what it was like to be a black man in a white culture”. Maybe not. But I know what it is to be a woman in a “man’s world” — and I know that you can turn any difference into an advantage with the right attitude.

To give someone a special pass or not hold them to the same standards because of race, sex, age, whatever, is to deem them inferior — and in need of “help”. My attitude has always been “screw that!”.

There is equal opportunity — which I support; and there is affirmative action — which is patronizing and demeaning. It needs to STOP.

    • Jack_Savage

The BIG catch is a “twofer” – a black woman. Boy does that make the numbers look good all of a sudden.

I’ll bet our racially sensitive AA population had no idea that term existed.

  • redneck_hippie

Obama is institutionalizing racism, and as I commented the other day, every day Holder keeps his job proves Obama is a racist.

    • JadedByPolitics

Institutional racism however it has been bad legislation for DECADES! It’s time has come to let it go. There is NO NEED to further allow reverse racism to be legislated. The market place will decide winners & losers. This is not 1964 and it NEVER will be again! People like Sherry Sherrod would like to keep up the LIE to continue to RAPE Americans out of their hard earned dollars to allow them a standard of living that the rest of US out here could only dream of but the cat is out of the bag and the ENDGAME is near because Americans have had quite enough of slippery reparations and being called racists!

In the beginning, it was not an unreasonable effort to try and hurry along the righting of the wrongs of a long history of discrimination towards African-Americans. Unfortunately, the law of unintended consequences has come home to roost. Affirmative action promotes racism and discrimination, only now it is used against a different ethnic group.

You mention your two sons. I have twin boys, now post graduate students. They went to parochial school through 8th grade and they were excellent basketball players through the years, culminating in being instrumental in winning the Middle School Championship game their final year. Fast forward to high school, public school. They made the team, but sat on the bench. A sick program and a black coach who was found to be in violation of district residency rules. They got rid of him quietly. Unfortunately, continued to do poor diligence in hiring a coach and my boys’ senior year had hired one from out-of-state, who hadn’t had a winning record in a couple of decades and had just finished out the contract where they were glad to see the end of him. Of course, our school didn’t know this. We did some research after the fact.

To make a long story short, my sons, who could jump, and played excellent skilled team ball were treated horribly by him, because his goal was to drive them off the team (the token whites) in order to not have to answer why wasn’t he playing the kids who knew how to play team ball, not street ball. My boys, who are not quitters, and were also outstanding track athletes, left the team during the Christmas break that senior year, when the blatant abuse got so bad and they realized they weren’t going to get to play. When the principle had a few words after one of the pre-season games when the abuse was obvious, the coach yelled and we all heard, he “knew his rights and he had a contract.” Yes, they were stuck with him for five long years. Only had one season barely over .500. The other years were only 3 or 4 wins out of seasons of over 20 plus games played.

It broke my heart to see the abuse my sons took. But one of them said to me, “mom, look basketball isn’t my whole life, I have a future, I’m going to college, they (the others) most don’t have it and don’t care. He was right, of course, though it was very painful then. Today, one is finishing his Masters this coming year, and the other is starting Veterinarian School this fall.

My main point here, is to note how affirmative action has become an entrenched government institutionalized program of racism, and almost more importantly, besides the harm and discrimination toward the whites in our society, it is actually very destructive to the blacks. This entitlement mentality and you can’t get rid of me, fostered by their hold on AA, has caused great harm to their own community. No one has to be accountable, or responsible. Those very same coaches and teachers who keep their jobs because of color, and not competence, hurt their children, as well as ours.

    • JadedByPolitics

I suspect that many White families could tell a similar story. It is absolutely SHAMEFUL. It was never supposed to be that the righting of the wrong would then entrap the other side but as with ALL Government policies it ends up that way. It is true that laws meant to control human nature destroy the very real FREEDOMS that WE all enjoy as God’s children!

      • JadedByPolitics

can I just say how RELIEVED I am that as Americans WE can FINALLY have this conversation. Eric Holder is WRONG because WE are not a nation of cowards WE are ready, willing and able to converse about that which is wrong and that is RACISM in any form!

    • derhoosier

John Thompson, former Georgetown coach (actually maybe that’s the first John Thompson– isn’t J.T. jr now coach there?). He was quite open about the fact he wasn’t going to recruit any white kids because he felt it was his duty to give opportunities to black kids. It’s a pathetic thing to see.

after spending 18 years in manufacturing, I’m changing careers to HIT. I’m taking my courses online through a college here in NC.

Here is what is stated in the email format sent out by advisors:

(Name of College) HIT HAS PRIORITY RECRUITMENT FOR MINORITIES (African-Americans, Asians/Pacific Islanders, Hispanics/Latinos, Native Americans, & ALL MALES!!

The preference for minorities is obvious. There’s no doubt about that. But note the “all males” part of it.

  • pompadour

This country does indeed want to have a discussion about race. And I suspect it will take a decidedly different tack than Barry would prefer.

It will indeed take a while to untangle the damage done, but the politics of division has been exposed, and average Americans like me and the people I know are sick to death of it.

As far as I’m concerned, those bashing Andrew Breitbart upside the head should shut up. Whether releasing that Shirley Sharrod video was a gaffe or not, the way the whole scenario played out sure did expose a whole lot of stuff America needed to see.

I’m one of those people that believes everything happens for a reason and that even our mistakes can be used to God’s purpose. As far as I’m concerned, the events of this past week certainly fit that bill.

    • JadedByPolitics

should really call Webbs office and say well there is ONE thing WE agree on and that is Affirmative Action has been a LOSER for all involved. I did and I also told his office that Eric Holder is the COWARD because WE The People are ready and willing to have this conversation!
