Evidence Of A Miracle

I got home from work today and opened my email, one titled “In Memory of Evidence” immediately caught my attention. It did so because a few years ago I read a story of a little Zebra that someone had in the back of their vehicle, they had gotten in an accident and left the scene, leaving big Evidence of what had occurred. Noah’s Ark Evidence of a Miracle a non-profit animal/children’s care center immediately took him in and a story went around the net. I have donated to this organization quarterly since that time with additional at Christmas time. This particular organization is brilliant in its set up because the orphaned children take care of the orphaned animals and in return the orphaned animals give the children empathy. It is heartbreaking to learn that Evidence died on November 20th. Now some will say “so what” it was an animal, I will say that when you give yourself over to taking care of something that is completely dependent upon you, you have given yourself over to God. Animals love you without asking you to love them back, you do of course but they don’t demand it from you. It is the heart of an animal lover that is to me more pure then any others. When you look at a “disposed” of animal at a rescue organization and you know their awful story and yet they are thrilled to have you in their presence, you know you are in the presence of God. It is the little animal as it is the little baby who seem to sense good and evil, and I for one pay attention to both when they don’t particulary like someone.

Evidence brought something rare and irreplaceable to Noah’s Ark – and to the hearts of many who came to love him. We feel like God used this little zebra to reach out to those who needed to glimpse a hero – a survivor – the true Evidence of love. He made people smile when he became friends with Mary the cat…and when he seemed so fascinated with Gracie’s blonde mane…when he stole Pop’s hat and nibbled carrots from Grandma Connor’s fingers (while she stood safely on the other side of the fence.) We were constantly amazed at the people who came – many from out of state – just to see him. They had read his story in a newspaper or online – and just had to come and “meet” him.

The miracle of course is the heart and soul of the people at Noah’s Ark. They so loved their fellow man and animals that they care for both. They are totally dependent upon the good nature of fellow Americans and probably others in the World. They are what we should all hope to be and that is kindhearted. It is a simple act of kindness in this world that touches someone, somewhere and usually just when they need it. It is dignity and grace of the human heart that decides to take on both animals and children to help them get a forever home. The volunteers that help to make this organization run are truly God centered people and they are Evidence of a Miracle in America.

I still have his magnet on my refrigerator, and had been so touched by his story. In fact, Jaded you and I discovered that we shared a mutual love for animals and children that had difficult lives. Noah’s Ark does wonderful work in this regard. Made a donation in Evidence’s memory, and will tweet this story.

and that is bring BIG attention to that little place and to help them help many, many more. My heart crumbled into a million little pieces when I read that email. I was like NO, WHY and my husband was like what? what? WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER….LOL….I was just tore up but as always with death, I looked to the purpose of his life :)

  • chbroussard

Being a bigtime animal lover, this story really touched me. I have 5 “granddogs” that my kids have rescued—3 from a shelter, 1 from a grocery story parking lot, and 1 from a construction site. We couldn’t love them more if they were AKC registered and had cost us $500 a piece. In fact, we probably love them more. They are an integral part of our family.

God bless Noah’s Ark and all the lives it touches.

    • JadedByPolitics

who have been given a second chance have such big hearts that they make the BEST friends of all :)

I?m sorry to hear about this zebra?s passing.

Watching an abused or abandoned animal learn to trust again is very rewarding. Our dog, a former shelter dog, went from darting away anytime anyone went near her, to sleeping on our bed, undisturbed, no matter how much we toss and turn. She ran as a candidate for the state legislature in November, but didn?t win. An opponent exposed her big weakness by pulling out a bag of liver treats during the debate. Oh, well, can?t win ?em all. God bless Noah?s Ark and all who give a homeless pet a second chance. We love our adopted dog and can?t remember what life was like without her.

I would not give her up for anything. Thanks for this. Putting her in a kennel or leaving town for vacation there is no compromise.

“Katie” is always at the top of the list.

the way everyone did and shows the capacity of animals who were “discarded” to feel safe again. My favorite part of Noah’s Ark is that they foster children who take care of the animals. I taught my son’s empathy by having them help take care of dogs and cats at Lost Dog Rescue events every weekend for 5 years and I have to say they are very nice young men and I truly believe it was because of that.

My daughter volunteered at the ASPCA one summer, and we got “Anna.” She volunteered the next summer, and we got “Mr. Fluffers.” Told her she needed to find another volunteer job the third
        summer. :)

And one of my boys is in Vet School; he always had a compassionate heart toward animals.

        • JadedByPolitics

There is Patch and Anak-Su-Namun (from the Mummy movie, btw we call her Moon). Those cats give us such pleasure on a daily basis and I truly look forward to them excited to see me at that end of the day :)

      • ladyimpactohio

from the Humane Society. Actually, the second one. The first one was “discarded” I’m sure because I found out a couple months later she had major health problems. But I saw her through and even took her to specialists in Columbus and then one in Michigan. She died 2 years ago.

When I came home from the vet in tears after having to put her down, I saw the food bowls. The empty bed and little hut she had. I immediately went back to the Humane Society and picked out the most horrible, scrawniest looking kitty. She had almost no hair on her and I saw her fighting to get to the food against all the other larger cats in the room and I knew she was the one I had to bring home.

We have a 2 story house and I had to teach her to go up and down the stairs. It took me about 2 weeks to teach her, but now she races up and down and is thriving and “owns the house.”

With all the vitriol, animus and hatred in the world, pets are the only ones who are incapable of these awful things. I wouldn’t give her up for anything. If I ever had to, I would spend my money on her rather than material things.

Somedays I am under the delusion that life is so tough and I am becoming so hardened. Then a story like this comes from a warm soul like yours, and shines a light on the true importance of daily existence.

Thank you for shining that light today. I will be helping to carry on the
Noah’s Ark mission along with the rest of the Restate family.

    God Bless you.

and seriously in the heat of politics every day can seem like a fight and it is indeed a story like Evidence’s and Noah’s Ark that reminds me that outside of DC there really are kindhearted people :)

here in Henry County, GA and will testify that Jama Hedgecoth, the founder, is truly a woman of faith doing God’s work for these children and animals.

I’ve been a supporter of her amazing work for several years now so much so that I’ve included Noah’s Ark as a benefactor in my will. On my birthday each year, I ask my friends and family to make donations to them instead of sending me gifts.

Every single time I’ve made a donation, whether it be monetary, dog/cat food, or bails/rolls of hay, I’ve received a handwritten thank-you note from Jama that’s truly touched my heart. How many non-profits can you say that about?

I’ve been to the overnight “safari’s” and on several the fall hayrides, and have never met a better group of people. It’s so awesome the Noah’s Ark provides these great events for local children to unplug, be with their a families, and learn about animals, the outdoors, and the children who are less fortunate than themselves.

Evidence the Zebra has changed Noah’s Ark forever. But I happen to think that his story of survival, courage, and love is just as much about Jama as it is the little zebra who was found injured on the side of the interstate two years ago that she saved. While Evidence became the “face” of their mission recently, Jama’s story is also one of courage in surviving very tough times in the last 20 years since The Ark opened. She’s overcome tremendous odds and has worked tirelessly to make that place into what it is today, which is truly a place of good for all the stray animals and orphaned children in our community. Jama is as inspiring as Evidence was.

My heart goes out to all of my friends at Noah’s Ark in this time of loss. There is a memorial service planned for Evidence on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 1:00 p.m. and I am so lucky that I live only a few miles away and will be able to attend and honor this sweet little creature of God who touched so many lives.

If you’re ever in Georgia en route to or from Florida, I encourage you to consider visiting Noah’s Ark. It’s a convenient stop 30 miles south of Atlanta a mile off of I75 . You’ll be glad you did. In the mean time, please click on the link in the article above and learn about this wonderful place.

my heart is torn up and yet filled with joy all at the same time. He was indeed something special, I will miss getting my updates about him but I will certainly enjoy my updates on the rest of the children and animals :)

          • penguin2

As I noted above, one time in a conversation with Jaded, we discovered that we both had a magnet on our refrigerators with the picture of Evidence, the little zebra. His story had certainly touched my heart, and I became a contributor to Noah’s Ark, because I also have a passion for rescuing children. Children and animals are helpless, and dependent on others for care and survival. Yet, they will love you unreservedly, without restraint, in return. Yes, indeed, those are the moments when I feel closest to God.

All creatures, great and small (James Herriot), are evidence of God’s love.

        • JadedByPolitics

of Noah’s Ark and indeed they are great organization and how kind of you to include them in your estates, they are indeed doing God’s work :)

          • jstjoan

And I hope they don’t get it any time soon, IYKWIMAITYD, LOL!

If every one of us who are concerned about smaller government find a way to help a local organization that does a service for our community, be it time or money, would there be less demand for government assistance? Wouldn’t there be less of a need for these types of places to need grants and subsidies?

          • JadedByPolitics

to expect the government to “help” due to the tax code and or to give where they get a tax deductible contribution. I truly believe though if the tax code is amended to a flat tax that there will more then enough money to spread around to charities of OUR choosing instead of the governments!

We have 4 rescued dogs, one little female beagle (she came with the name peaches) just a month ago. She was going to be taken to the pound because her former owner said “she don’t hunt.” We also have a cat that found and adopted us. The dogs will not tolerate cats so we completely enclosed our half screened porch with double plastic, put a heater in there, and a cat door, and set her up with a bed with a heating pad in it. It stays warm enough that we can still watch TV in there when the hubby gets home. Kitty loves it. Just donated to Noah’s Ark to where it is needed the most.

    • JadedByPolitics

that little set up you have for that kitty cat makes her yours whether the dogs want her or not :) I am hardly surprised by those commenting here as I believe Conservatives have the biggest hearts of all!

  • E Pluribus Unum

when you give yourself over to taking care of something that is completely dependent upon you, you have given yourself over to God.

    • JadedByPolitics

poetry so that is probably the best compliment of all.

  • cactusjack

You know what the criminal profilers say. Everyone should either love children, and/or animals and/or music. Some all three, some two, some just one. But when you find someone who hates them all – there’s your psychopath. Or in our case, there’s your liberal!

    • jstjoan

?The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.?

    • Scope

that the sign of good character was in how you treated the elderly, the children and animals. They are all vulnerable.

  • SoFiMil

    Thanks for sharing this story.

    • JadedByPolitics

and while his passing was sad, his life had meaning, so many people now know about Noahs Ark that they are financially better off then prior to Evidence’s arrival :)

      • SoFiMil

On December 31st it will be 2 years since I adopted my 2 precious cats from the local shelter near where I live. They have enriched my life tremendously. A year or so ago I was working tirelessly on a thesis and one night fell asleep on my couch with my laptop on my lap. I woke up about 4:00 a.m. — and there were my two cats, a few feet in front of me, wide awake and looking at me. They truly taught me what loyalty was, and it felt great to be loved and watched over. I know our Heavenly Father feels the same way, but it was nice to be able to actually experience it through my cats. They’ve helped me to be a better human being around others.
