Observations from the Cheap Seats

From the diaries by Erick

  • Can someone please explain to me what sensible fact or viewpoint Ceci Connolly ever lends to the discussion of any particular issue?  On Fox News Sunday, Ms. Connolly gratuitously opined that there isn’t much to be made of recent criticism of anthropogenic global warming, because after all it has been unequivocally established that 2009 was the “second warmest year on record.”  What?  I’ve heard of having your employer’s back, but this is taking it to new heights.  On a weekend in which the Washington Post simply ignored the most recent disclosure coming from the leading global warming protagonist at East Anglia, to wit that the Earth has not warmed since 1995, while persisting with its front page article, Ms. Connolly’s trumpeting global warming hooey is nothing short of astounding.
  • Lest you think that the aforementioned disclosures will slow down Obamanation’s push for Cap and Trade legislation, think again.  In fact, it’s likely to do just the opposite.  As more and more evidence surfaces that global warming is actually not occurring, i.e. that the Earth is actually cooling, do not be surprised if there is a push to get ahead of the cooling curve, by quickly adopting a watered down Cap and Trade bill (which Pelosi and Reid can eeeek through Congress) in order to permit the Obama Administration an opportunity to claim credit for the cooling.  Nah, this wouldn’t happen, would it?
  • Evan Bayh retires from the U.S. Senate at the end of this term, with $13 million in his campaign account.  Hmmm.  If I were President Obama, I’d be watching that campaign account awful closely.  How much does it cost to conduct private polling about a Democratic presidential primary?
  • And, you can bet that the current resident-in-chief at Foggy Bottom is watching Evan Bayh closely, as well.  If rumblings begin in earnest about a Bayh presidential run, you can be assured that Hillary will be thinking long and hard about whether her “time” has truly passed.  The notion of one-in, all-in clearly applies to presidential politics.
  • Does Obama really have reason to be concerned about a primary challenge, including one from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton?  Yes, because despite President Obama’s best efforts to keep Hillary out of the country and off the front page, she is still capable of reading the same polls we read.  If the economy continues to go south, or at least remains stagnant, and if Obama doesn’t handle Guantanamo soon, the KSM trial and if efforts with Iran don’t seem to be making substantive progress at stabilizing the Middle East, then you bet, Hillary will be looking for the nearest exit and soon.
  • How does John Brennan keep his job?  His most recent boneheaded revelation that a 20% recidivism rate is not all that bad for your everyday run-of-the-mill Guantanamo terrorist is so patently absurd that you really must wonder what someone has to do in order to get fired by President Obama.  But, then if he fired Brennan, this would be one more person in the unemployment line and one less job saved . . .

I have to wonder, before Hillary and Bayh and anyone else who wants a shot announces their run, will Soros or the Dem Party tell Obama he might want to think about “spending more time with his family?” how long are they going to keep the millstone around their neck? how many more elections will he destroy for the left before they cut sling load? Then when they threaten him into retirement, how do they blame it on Bush?

  • Richard Mullins

and it’s seems that we haven’t seen the last of Evan Bayh or that matter the chance of Hillary Clinton challenging Obama. Keeping brennan around is just because He seems the same as the administration right now.

    2 problems with him losing:

    1. He changes the rules so no one can game the system like he did in 2008 (Moe has explained this very well somewhere around here).

    and

    2. The liberals still love him and they are the base of the Dem party. Imagine if you could have replaced W with another Republican in 2006 or so (since he was still quite popular in 2004 and it doesn’t line up very well), would anyone go for someone more moderate? Heck no. You put Bush up in 2008 against McCain in a primary and W is wiping the walls with the Maverick yet again. The only way to primary Barack is to run to his left – and there’s no room over there for any sane candidate (Kucinich I’m looking at you). Hillary might have an outside chance on *competency*, but I still doubt that she can make it through a primary and win.

All of the “moderate” Democrats will have left the Party and become Independents by then.

Independents and Republicans will vote in the Republican primaries.

ACORN will carry the day for Obama in the Democrat primaries.

If Obama keeps heading down this road, look for a dump Biden movement to gain steam. Obama’s going to need a jump start. Obama-Bayh or Obama-Clinton could be the kick he needs.

    • Richard Mullins

That’s because she’s that’s going to either let Biden go or stay.

      I’m not worthy!!

That won’t be nearly as much fun or as bloody as Hillary running against him after his first term but it won’t be bad. Can you imagine the sound bites after they throw him under the bus?

      • Richard Mullins

will routinely toss each other under the bus in a very heated primary(Commie vs. Commie Part II). The term “Toss them under the bus” will take on a whole new meaning.

and an Obama-Bayh ticket show up. Don’t really see it for an Obama-Clinton ticket. If he is that weak and having to get rid of Biden, she should be able to take him down. If things continue to deteriorate for the Dems, they will look to stop the bleeding between 2010 and 2012. Obama may be so toxic for them, they have to take more drastic measures.

I can’t see Hillary putting up with him anymore, and if she chooses to go for it, she will. Waiting around for him to finish another 4yrs. with her as a VP and then thinking she will get in, just isn’t plausible to me.

Hillary isn’t going to take a step down from Sec. of State to Vice President. I expect her to step down from SoS shortly after the mid-term elections. She’s done what she needed to do. Democrats know they screwed up.

I don’t think Clinton has any desire to run for President again. I think she would only do it in a “draft a grown up to save the Party with Obama not seeking reelection” scenario.

She knows she got stabbed in the back.

      1. Press for a retirement, nominate Hillary to Supreme Court before she can quit SOS.

      2. Successfully execute #1, escort Bayh and Biden to smoke-filled backroom, remind Biden of his familial obligations and Beau’s political aspirations.

Lots of work there, but hey, Obama’s pretty energetic where his career is concerned, and he has been known to get big things done quickly in that area.

Does he really believe half of what he says….

Lords, I had a reco up there, but these wonderful promotions to FP eliminate them. Congrats.
