Polls show VP Condi Rice adds more votes for Romney than other picks

Two polls, one published July 18 and the other July 25 show consistent findings that if Romney picks Condoleezza Rice to run for VP on his ticket then Romney-Rice gains many more votes than does Romney with any other running mate.

“VP Rice” is a game-changer for Romney

The experts agree that the polls are telling us that the additional votes Rice could bring to the Romney ticket change the expectations of who will win the electoral game.

Without Rice, with any of the other VP possible picks, Romney looks weak against Obama and Romney’s game looks losing unless something big happens in his favor.

With Rice, Romney’s ticket looks as strong as Obama-Biden. Romney-Rice could beat Obama-Biden but the polling results in so far are so closely tied between those two tickets that there appears to be no clear favorite as yet.

Rice can carry Romney to the White House!

The polls say that Condi Rice is a very unusually popular political figure and it looks like she could carry Romney to victory in the 2012 Presidential election if anyone can.

Here are the two polls

Daily Caller: With Condi on ticket, Romney tied with Obama in Pennsylvania, says PPP poll

Two new surveys by Public Policy Poling show that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice could greatly benefit Mitt Romney as his running mate in the battleground states of Pennsylvania and Michigan.

The poll of Pennsylvania voters shows that while President Obama leads Romney in the state 49 percent to 43 percent, that lead is entirely erased when Rice is listed as Romney’s vice presidential candidate. Not since George H.W. Bush topped Michael Dukakis in the the state in 1988 has a Republican presidential nominee carried Pennsylvania.

Swing state Pennsylvania too close to call

Could Romney-Rice win states last won for the Republicans in the 1988 Republican landslide?

The electoral college map the last time the Republicans took Pennsylvania. 1988: G.H.W.Bush (426 votes) beats M. Dukakis (111 votes)

PPP: Stable presidential race in Michigan and Pennsylvania

One thing that could be a huge game changer in both of these states? Mitt Romney selecting Condoleezza Rice as his running mate. She would give him a 6 point advantage both places, pulling him into a tie in Pennsylvania at 45-45 and narrowing the gap in Michigan to 50/42. Rice is a very unusually popular political figure. In Pennsylvania her favorability rating is 60/27 and in Michigan it’s 56/28. She’s even seen favorably by Democrats- 47/38 in Pennsylvania and 41/40 in Michigan- in both states. Her selection has the potential to be a game changer.

I bet you could produce a poll that shows Romney would blow Obama away, if he put Hillary Clinton on the ticket as VP.

And that is just as likely as a Romney – Rice ticket.

Yeah I am sure that a socially moderate person with no elected experience who is identified with an unpopular foreign policy and an unpopular administration is going to be sooooo positive.

And to break it to you gently, Condi ain’t it.
    Move on to something usefull.

because of Romney’s performance overseas? This is nonsense. He’s just adjusting to diplomatic protocol, and it’s not like he’s giving away classified material.

I will say that sometimes, Americans do not travel well. I’ve been on business in Europe with otherwise intelligent Americans and there’s no doubt that some of them open their mouths and you want to kill and bury them before they have a chance to destroy a business deal. They are usually golfer-types, who can’t understand smaller hotel rooms, smaller cars, or smaller portions on their plates. They generally just spend the whole time comparing America to whatever country they’re in and justifying the superiority of the home team. That’s great. I happen to believe they are correct. But they have no curiosity about world history and cultural differences. It’s a bit like spending time with mentally handicapped people. Once they become more familiar with their surroundings, they begin to learn how best to function.

I generally insist that people I travel with on business limit the times they speak up, at least on the first trip. It prevents a lot of awkward conversation. Eventually they begin to feel less overwhelmed and begin to function coherently. I’m sure that’s just the case with Romney. But let’s not panic and start throwing someone like Condi–who was in way over her head not too long ago, and got steamrolled into some ineffective policy.

Get a clue….and how about they poll the Evangelicals and Tea Party people that would NOT vote with Mitt because of PRO-CHOICE RICE!! I love when a person like Peter falls for this HOOK LINE AND SINKER crap!! Take it elsewhere buddy. Rice is Set-Up for a loss big time. The minute people from the Obama Camp would tie her to Bush….Romney would be caught fighting the Bush stigma…which would just be a Disaster. Fox News…NOT their own polls have had plsu 7, 8 and 9 on Dems….sorry I could care less about them or PPP….which is a left wing Huff Post drone!

Mitt would lose too many conservatives with Rice…she is another RINO and would be a horrible choice. She can be brilliant all she wants but she is cold, unpassionate, moderate and uninspiring. Romney must have those Evangelicals and Conservatives on fire to vote for him!! That is how Bush beat Kerry…Rice is nothing more than a PUPPET POP-UP from the Press to sink Romney…much the same way we let the PRESS chose McLAME in 2008. At the time…Peter…we were told McLAME was the best to beat Obama or Clinton….REMEMBER THAT PETER??? How soon people like you forget!!

Open your own trap door and take the leap!! And enjoy the fall….but McLame part 2 will happen with Rice. She is a dud! She is not a Conservative and she has NOTHING TO SHOW anywhere that she has ever SUPPORTED CONSERVATIVE SOCIAL VALUES or ECONOMIC ISSUES!!

She is a DUPE by the PRESS and PETER YOU FELL!! you would think alleged conservatives would stop the SEE SEE the MSM and POLLS tell us go with RICE!! As is they want Romney to win!!

    GET A CLUE!!

  • commonsenseobserver

I’m not inclined to trust them on this.

  • Tbone

Read his whole quote. Don’t be gamed by the liars.

  • jude68

Boy another person who must watch the MSM on steroids. Get real buddy….Performance overseas…..LOL!! Yeah worrying about Security issues that the UK PRESS was bashing the Government over right on the day Romney arrived but HE GAFFED because he said it was disconcerting…GROW UP!! Americans I think respect people who ARE HONEST AND NOT PHONY…oh yeah image people like you worry…I travel overseas as well all the time and quite frankly I like someone HONEST AND REAL….so speak for yourself! and your POLITICS GARBAGE!! Oh Mitt be a good boy and just smile….I AM SO SICK OF THAT CRAP!!

Mitt will earn more from people here because he is showing backbone…you are the type that worries OH WHAT WILL MSM say and then draw some stupid conclusion that the MSM with its dwindling numbers will make Mitt look unprepared!! Sorry not one voter will mind when MITT WAS WORRIED OVER SECURITY!!

Insult the British….put a sock in it with a tea bag!! The British Press is so far left the HUBBLE TELESCOPE could not find them. They say nothing about Obama who could care less about the UK…but that EVIL MITT talking about the same ISSUES the Liberal Press in the UK has been crying about. It amazes me that Piers Morgan, a liberal himself, defended Romney and exposed how phony the UK uproar was….by the way….they had to send in 18,000 troops to cover that SECURITY shortfall that the UK press grilled Romney over…hmmm…I guess Mitt was right!!

Stay tough Mitt and ignore people like this. They worry more about what others say then sticking by your convictions!!

So take your SNOTTY and CONDESCENDING REMARKS about AMERICANS and shove them in your SMALLER HOTEL ROOMS, SMALLER TOILETS, SMALLER CARS AND SMALLER PORTIONS!

And take a SMALLER PLANE and get out of America because your Intellectual Superiority Attitude is PATHETIC!! Go live with your overseas whiners that you can hold hands with and SO UNDERSTAND better than other Americans JERK!

  • emptybucket

like many things about Condi your constant drumbeat is just plain annoying. Could we please have a VP pick with some experience, please, pretty please. Condi is a diplomat and although has many conservative beliefs, is not quite “on the mark” for this election.

Okay?? Understand?? There aren’t many here at RS probably even reading your stuff anymore. I’m new in the comment arena so still get suckered in and then disappointed.

I am here to read inteligent, engaging, enlightening discourse and debate to expand my own understanding of being a Christian Conservative. I totally believe in RS’s stated goals and desire to follow the rules. When I don’t follow the rules I know the friends I’ve made already will gently help me out.

Why Peter Dow are you here? Why not go to another blogging site that will support your opinion and rock solid (?) polling data?

  • teaforme2012

There’s nothing wrong with his quote. But if you’re in the heat of an election and your acts or words inspire ridicule around the world, as well as from your own party, (Krauthammer and others, for example) you aren’t doing yourself any favors. You can blame the mainstream media, or the liars, or whatever you want to call them, but those are excuses. Romney has to be smarter than this.

He’s in the fight of his life. He doesn’t have to be profound, he just shouldn’t screw up, and that requires some level of sophistication and preparation. Don’t you think Obama wishes he could have a few sentences back? Those are mistakes, and we want our guy to avoid as many as possible, right?

  • checkmate2012

buying your stale nonsense here since we’ve seen it before today. Condi is a disaster so I think you’re a “test the water” Leftie plant to see our red credentials.

I can only speak for myself that I admire Condi but no way in Disney do I want her to be Romney’s VP pick.

Do you have any other choices with choice graphs?

  • runner12

When one hears the entire quote, it is easy to see that the Brits overeacted. I know that no one really likes foreigners commenting on their country, but surely they can be objective enough to see that those concerns exist. I am disapointed that some on our side would follow the media’s lead and criticize Romney.

Romney was asked a specific question as someone who had rescued the Salt Lake City games from disaster. He answered it truthfully and honestly. Even the lefty (British) Piers Morgan defended Romney and said he (Romney ) spoke the truth.

The comments were not deregatory towards London at all. It is a large city that has experienced previous terrorists attacks. On a world stage like this one, anything that is remotely off regarding security will always be a concern. It would be the same if the games were held in NYC.

that Condi would make the ticket more popular. Do I personally like that ticket? She is an incredibly bright and talented woman, head and shoulders above 99% of other possible Romney VP picks, intellectually speaking. But intellect is not everything. I understand the doubts about her conservatism. Still, it’s a VP slot and has no bearing on what Romney would do as President.

As someone who back in the day had somewhat of a crush on her, I can understand ya :)

  • PowerToThePeople

SOB and the mods really need to consider banning you as there is something really wrong with you. And someone should send this to Condi as she needs to be aware of your stalker mentality.

Not too mention your willingness to have children with minor girls.

But you did make me laugh with your “I have superior genes” comment. It was quite amusing.

Now, go get help. you are seriously a sick man.

  • Finrod

Just because your mind isn’t open to the possibility doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea.

  • checkmate2012

he needs to be banned for his stalker mentality.

  • Jack_Savage

But I am keeping the waist – to – hips chart. Should go over well at the gym, a guideline of sorts. Just kidding. It’s creepy.

Some time ago I wrote an email about him to Redstate’s version of the circular file, the Contact page, but no luck. He needs help. And a partner to get an increase in his welfare check. But help most of all.

  • Tbone

It is you who is wrong. Makes we wonder about you.

BTW, I have done $millions of business in the UK and Europe and I think I would have just left you in the US.

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

One Romney was correct. The fact that the British security company had only hired half the needed personnel is disconcerting along with no one thought to check. Least we forget nuts (1988 Atlanta Olympics bomber) and terrorist (1972 Munich) like to make a statement at the Olympics. Second, Brian Williams asked Romney a question and he answered truthfully. This is really something we want to discourage? Romney is being criticized for being honest and correct? The British need to get over themselves and hire some security personnel.

  • emptybucket

is possible. I had no idea when I posted yesterday asking him why he blogs here just who this guy is. Went to the two websites but didn’t read every word – good grief there are so many words all saying the same thing. My first impression was oh my, this guy is a stalker. But after reading on, and on…it is even worse than that. Can’t exactly come up with the right expressions as I’m so taken aback that there is someone like this posting on Redstate.

This jerk is not promoting conservative values – hey moderators have you seen his websites? This ewwwww kind of man is not even close to what we’d define a Christian Conservative as – please ban him.

All Peter Dow is doing is trolling the Internet looking for open blogging sites to cut and paste his Condi nonsense to.

Will never even click on this very sick individual’s diary again.

Thank you kind friends for the info.

  • teaforme2012

it’s a matter of diplomacy and building relationships and trust and presenting himself successfully on the world stage. Krauthammer and the more nuanced conservative thinkers are correct on this. Do you think Mitt Romney should go to Israel and speak the truth? Do you think that’s what his role should be?

Anyway, he’s already backpedaled, telling London they are doing a great job and have things under control. So apparently, Mitt Romney as speaker of truths, didn’t go over so well in his own camp, either.

I don’t give one crap about the Brits, and I happen to think Mitt DID speak the truth. But his only freaking job on this trip should be to not turn it into negative coverage for himself. How much is that to ask?

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

He should lie and give an incorrect answer to boot or even better act like the idiot currently in the White House and pretend he doesnt know the correct answer? All so the poor incompetents running the Olympics who didn’t remember to check the number of security personnel don’t get their noses in a joint? That is really what Krauthammer is saying. It’s that kind of thinking that leads to Mitch McConnell running for the exits every time Harry Reid gets his nose in a joint. I could care less about diplomacy. Some of those athletes and people are Americans that were put in danger by widely reported incompetence. If the Israeli’s put Americans in danger, you’re darn right I want Romney to say it’s a concern; their feelings be darn.

  • teaforme2012

if you want to present yourself in a positive light as a leader and not make headlines for the wrong reasons. This shit’s not hard. You just can’t be a black and white, truth or lie kind of thinker. It’s not about the London Olympics, it’s about Mitt Romney, the candidate.

“Great question, Brian. Every Olympics presents challenges, especially in this day and age. It was true in 1972, and in my experience in Salt Lake City, there are constant concerns and security issues that I had to not only be aware of, but make decisions about, because protecting athletes, fans, and the people who work at the games was our number one priority. If you surround yourself with highly qualified people and inspire your team to work with the concerns of every single nation, it’s a job that can be done and done well. I would like to think that London has looked back at the example we set in Salt Lake, as well as the other recent games, as successful models toward creating a safe and memorable Olympic experience for every country that participated.”

  • rightlane1111

I heard that on Glenn Beck when driving. He’s right and so is Jude. I thought that Rice was a good Secretary of State…but she is tied to the Bush Administration.

People voted for Obama to get away from Bush…and many were Indies. Now we have the mess we are in..and the constant drumbeat that everything is Bush’s fault. Bring in Rice and you will hear it more. Why her. Well…to be blatantly honest…let’s go after the female vote and let’s eliminate the race card. Yes, she is accomplished…but that is what she will be used for. She does have foreign affairs experience and that is to her credit….BUT read her recent post and its pro-agenda “nation building” ala Bush…NOT GOOD.

So…even though Kitty disagrees…I am still for Rubio. He’s my Kibble…Yes…we need to swing the Hispanic vote in our direction…so he is also a pawn. BUT…he does offer something that Rice does not…a picture of enthusiasm . The man does not have to utter “Hope”…it’s in his demeanor…and it’s contagious. Rubio’s big worry about the RNC and Romney’s people..is this…will he “outshine” Romney…and that’s won’t be hard to do.

Besides, as I have said on this board…Romney needs someone from the South…the REGION does not like Romney…and for the most part…they like Rubio…and he offers a swing state to boot.

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

The media story would have been “Arrogant Romney criticizes London officials over security and preaches they should have used his Salt Lake Olympics as a model”. Maybe this stuff is a little harder than you think. Romney had two choices and only two. One is to pretend the security concerns were no big deal in which case he is saying it is ok to put Americans in danger or he could give the correct and truthful answer knowing he would spend a couple of days putting the British noses back in joint (and that the British would move to address the concerns). Romney took the more courageous route. I for one applaud him for it (and for what it’s worth- Piers Morgan who is more tied into British politics than Krauthammer said Romney was correct as well).

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

I’d really appreciate it if you’d watch your language. Thanks.

As for Romney’s statement, maybe he could have been a little more PC, but so what? Suppose he had tiptoed around the issue and then something went wrong. They’d be all over him for not pointing it out and offering his expertise. In this day and age, we can’t win either way. Romney did the right thing in putting the safety of others first.

  • Tbone

    Are you a Democrat?

  • teaforme2012

and have your excuses prepared, it’s easy to be angry and you don’t have to care about how you come across. The world, I guess, is just unfair for the principled and the courageous. I’m thinking Mitt just wants to win, which is why he’s no longer willing to take the stand you applaud. Victory first.

  • teaforme2012

but Melody, if you think Romney’s job is to travel around the world right now, putting the safety of others first, I really don’t know what more to tell you. It’s not about being politically correct. That’s a crutch for the weak-minded. The most important thing is winning an election in November. Stop deluding yourself as to what this trip is about.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

My point about safety was very specific to this statement and not at all with regard to his trip. Romney was asked a question to which he responded, and you’re the one who didn’t like his answer, indicating that perhaps he should have been more “diplomatic” which in many instances is little more than being PC.

And for you to assume I’m deluded based on one comment is quite a jump. It’s pretty well known around here that I’m an activist heavily involved in my local tea party, my local GOP, GOTV and other means by which we can elect Romney and as many conservatives as possible in November to office. Don’t presume I don’t know how important that is.

Thanks for watching the language. I often recommend redstate to friends at church as well as youngsters while noting that profanity isn’t allowed, so I really do appreciate it.

  • aesthete

was a nonsensical idea. Romney has articulated no terribly positions for American security or foreign policy; his trip will not change this. Given that he is running for President in this country, perhaps he should not be going on what amounts to a leisure trip around the world.

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

,other than liberal Democrats, gives a crap that Mitt Romney was a little rough with the British…I am going to make this easy for you

Romney: “No problem the British got it covered”
Media: “Clueless Romney ignores well reported on security concerns. Romney ok with putting American athletes and visitors at risk.”

    Romney: Your answer:
Media: “Arrogant, condescending Romney lectures British on security concerns. Goes as far to insinuate that British had his games as example.”

    Romney’s answer:
Media: “Undiplomatic Romney upsets the British on diplomacy trip”

No Comment: “Richie Rich Romney doesn’t care about security concerns”

I have a feeling number 1, plays about the worst with the electorate. Romney could not win with the MSM or liberal Democrats so he just answered truthfully and knew he would spend time putting the British noses back in joint which he has spent the last few days doing.

Further (and I think the majority of Americans agree with me),given a choice with being diplomatic to Europeans or protecting the safety of Americans, I prefer my leaders to worry about American safety not European’s feelings.

  • teaforme2012

I’m sorry about the language and that won’t happen again, Melody.

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

We’re all happy warriors and friends with one aim – to get that idiot out of the White House – no reason to be angry with each other – we may disagree on tactics but we all have the same end.

This is one of the things that I have always appreciated about RedState as compared to its liberal blog counterparts. • izoneguy

If he is a democrat – of course he is stupid!

  • gekster

    Why do you think that.

  • aesthete

is telling non-voting world leaders more in specifics about how he plans to run the country, than he is willing to let the people voting for him know.

It’s a glamour trip, much like Obama’s European Vacation (though much more understated in keeping with Romney’s personality and campaign style).

  • gekster

Couldn’t be a fact finding trip, huh.
Get to know a few world leaders.
Let them know where he stands on a few things that might interest
    the leaders he’s talking too.

    Nahhh, couldn’t be.

Both have about 60 percent favorable for Rice, and about half that or less unfavorable.

Say what you want about people not wanting anyone from the Bush Administration, but the hard numbers say people are making an exception for Condi.

Just look at the Republican Congressional leaders.
