The Republicans Are Going To Get Hit Hard In 2012 By The 99%…

I’ve been having this discussion with my Republican Party friends and officials in December. It’s about the Occupy movement, big labor and the DNC. It’s about a vision I’m sensing of impending doom for the Republicans… I’m starting to see the “we are the 99%” yard signs in our conservative county.

“Are You With the 99%?

Or the 1%???”

Now, I listen to Rush and Hannity when I can in my days – I’m a huge Rush fan but I am getting more and more unhappy with Sean for leaning on the likes of Rove, McCain and the establishment R’s to prop up his guest roster. I swear he doesn’t get that he’s losing the conservatives over this. Anyway, back to my discussions.

The other day Hannity was doing a monologue in response to a Democrat caller. He spent a lot of time trying to explain what the Dems are going to do with the narrative in 2012. The Democrats are going to use “politics of personal destruction” in 2012, because they don’t have a record to run on, etc. etc. with Obama as the offender in chief. All true, but my vision is far, far worse for what is awaiting the Republicans in the great debate of 2012. This, I believe, is what the Occupy movement was for all along.

The left didn’t miss the lessons of 2010 and the rise of the tea party. Oh, no. In fact, their leaders went to work to create their own counter movement. The rollout of the “OWS” activities in New York were likely planned a year ago. In fact, I would wager my reduced paycheck that there exists a calendar of events and media buys for each week until November 2012. To say that the funding and manpower is there is a vast understatement. If you’re not reading LaborUnionReport you should be – see this post as just a taste of what is in store for the Republican Party in 2012: http://www.redstate.com/laborunionreport/2011/11/19/ows-hijacked-occupycongress-next-steps-on-unions-agenda/

The more I dwell on it, the more I am profoundly impressed by the sheer brilliance of the “we are the 99%” tagline. The upside for the left is off the charts awesome – let’s consider:
a) There’s no way to counter it without being hammered as a defender of the “1%”
b) It provides pseudo-moral cover for almost ANY outlandish behavior to suppress or intimidate
c) It satisfies the herd urges of the blue collar democrats (you know, your neighbors in the 60s/70s who were in a union etc)
d) It satisfies the counter-culture urges of the “protestor class” extant in all our urban centers
e) It forces those on the right to go out of their way to avoid being painted as elitists while attempting to refute it

I’ll think of more as I go.

I recently had lunch with our county chairman and in the course of our chicken wraps brought up my concerns that our party is blithely headed into the hurricane without developing a counter-narrative. His helpful rejoinder was to say that he has heard that the Dems plan to have 2 union-paid “volunteers” at every polling place – that the time off has already been negotiated. Umm, thanks I replied and we ate our wraps in silence for a minute.

OK.

The Republican Party needs to develop a counter narrative. Like, yesterday. My wife is currently absorbing Frank Luntz and commented that we need a “Let’s Roll!” or “Morning In America” sort of narrative that:

a) Is irrepressibly optimistic – no room to naysayers here
b) Completely ignores the “99%” narrative as outdated and divisive
c) Can be used right on down the ballot to insulate every Republican from Occupy attacks
d) That insistently lays out a clear and understandable limited government, pro-trade and bill-of-rights oriented plan
e) Most importantly, includes a compelling call to volunteerism at the polls in 2012.

The Republicans simply don’t have the machine to compete with Labor and we’re going to need a powerful message to bring people out – where are the tea party rallies anymore, by the way? Have you wondered that? The only rallies I’m seeing are the “protester class” out there being manipulated (and probably enjoying it) much to the satisfaction of the evening news folks.

With the establishment right fighting to suppress conservative values in the presidential primary and insisting on offering up a one-dimensional “Obama is a failed president therefore we deserve a chance” narrative, the party is apparently oblivious to the windup leading to the “we are the 99%” haymaker about to be unleashed from Obama’s “organizing for America” machine. And I’m getting worried.

Not all of the Republican candidates are poster-children for the 1% (*coughs Mittens*). Perry, for example, has a solid background and personal story and a genuine populist hostility to bailing out Wall Street. So if you want to help Republicans avoid getting hammered by the so-called 99%, better start supporting Perry.

Whether you are part of the 53% who pay or the 47% who don?t, we are all more independent and freer when we all more equally contribute; that is only fair. Therefore I am not just for the 1% or the 99%, but rather I will always stand for the 100%, for we are all Americans. Those who would divide us into this percent or that, and embroil us into a class war pitting American against American seek only to destroy America and what makes us great, for only united can we stand and continue to prosper. It has been said that a rising tide lifts all boats, but only by moving forward together can we hope to generate the momentum and power necessary for such a force.

Or, how ’bout the 20% Real Unemployed? Or the 15% inflation in the cost of energy under Obama? Or the 60% drop-out rate in the Detroit Public Schools? Or the 110% increase in the yearly federal budget deficit? Or the 20% drop in combat-ready fighting forces, or the 30% reduction in materiel under Obama? Or, how about the 100% seizure of the Health Care economy? Or, the 37% of the Presidential work-hours taken up with fund-raising, golfing, or vacationing ? or the 72% of all federal taxes paid by the top 10% or wage-earners?

“99%” my butt…. This class-jealousy crap is going to blow up in their faces if they keep it up.

Both the author and the comments I am seeing so far indicate that though y’all understand the dilemma you are in you
        A) Do not understand OWS and thus cannot counter it
        B) Are stuck in your own mindset and project it out to the electorate, falsely (this is in the comments)

OWS is not a creation of the democrat party, imagining OWS as some George Soros type concoction that has been planned by the Obama folks since the TP got big is just not getting it and not helpful.

The voters who will actually matter this election (independents etc…) have a long running deep angry streak at Wall Street, banks, etc… and they hate politicians right now (whats congress got, 9% approval). They want politicians to do their jobs, they want their tax breaks, and they want the rich, especially Wall Street and banker types to pay. The GOP has cleverly managed to associate itself with the do nothing politicians AND Wall Street, bankers and the rich.

It is time for a BIG rethink and understanding of where the country is. Wishful thinking that Obama being populist and agitating for class war etc will somehow turn on him by November is just that, wishful thinking. The GOP needs a populist, and a clear message. I see neither coming out of Iowa.

It seems to me both parties have done nothing but associate with Wall Street, bankers, and the rich; and at least with regard to those three, they have both been do nothing politicians except when it comes to supporting their interests.

Given the choices voters have, that sentiment cannot realistically be a deciding factor. Regardless, I don’t think any Republican has any chance of beating Obama next year. It’s no revelation to me though as I’ve believed that consistently for three years now.

          • morstar150

Obama is the worst president we have ever had. The only one who comes close is Jimmy Carter. Today it was revealed that we could have retrived the downed Drone Plane in Iran but Obama nix the idea.

He a loser with a big FAT L!!!

          • morstar150

You take one tent down and remove from the ground, 98 losers appear on the wall,

98 losers appear on the wall, 98 losers will fall,
You take one pot smoking anarchist out of the park, 97 losers appear on the wall

97 losers appear on the wall, 97 losers will fall,
you take just one criminal off in handcuffs, 96 losers appear on the wall

96 losers appear on the wall, 96 losers will fall
you take the whole lot of these dirty maggots out of the park and your left with one loser who understands that the finacial industry is in the pocket of the Obama adminstration and he in theirs.

          • bri283

Lets lose again in 2012…. yay!

PS: Check out Huntsman today, he is getting the message. Too little too late, but still.

You assume people have to view a President’s performance favorably to reelect him.

Despite what we and the people we know and are around may think, many more still think any of the Republicans would be worse.

          • bri283

This is one thing so many dont get.

Somber, depressing violin music accompanies scenes of people in tent camps and standing in soup lines during the great depression (from actual news footage from the era).
The caption below the newsreel reads “Great depression 1929-1939″.
The screen flips to scenes (with even more depressing tones) of modern day tent camps, un-employment lines, OWS settlements, shuttered businesses on main street (including the failed Solyndra plant), etc.
Each video clip has a caption below describing the event followed by the phrase “Obamanomics 2009 – present)

Suddenly the music stops and the screen flips to Rick Perry, who says: “Do you want 4 more years of this ?”

Then the screen changes to scenes of people bustling around at their jobsites, working in their offices, harvesting their crops, etc, while upbeat music plays in the background, each scene having a caption describing the type of business, location (city or town in Texas) and date the clip was filmed (2009 – present).

Lastly Gov Rick Perry appears and all he says is “Vote for me and help me put America back to work. I am running for President of the United States. I am Rick Perry and I approve this message”.

Most hardworking Americans have absolute contempt for people that agitate for a portion of other’s labor that these malcontents have not earned. This is always reflected in polls, as it is even now, as “conservative” self identified folks make up 45% of the electorate, “independents” and “moderates” 30%, and “liberals” 25%.

Most real Americans do not begrudge success, do not envy those who have done well (at least not to the point where they want the iron-toed, jack-boot of the government on the throats of the well-to-do). That our sickening, loathsome president is engaging in this sort of slander is outrageous and disgusting and disquieting, but it doesn’t change the fact that Rouseauian mobocracy is alien to the American experience today, just as it has always been. “Populism”, going back to the goldbug days is just a form of this… and thus it sits on the ash-heap of history.

This crap, as I say, will blow up in Obama’s face, even as it is now doing. He gets 1,200 bootlickers to show up in a high-school gym to listen to his agitprop, and we’re supposed to be stunned. TR got 30,000 to show up over 100 years ago.

Oh: And TR LOST using the same clap-trap. Unmotivated malingerers tend not to get off their butts and vote, thankfully. Mostly, they spend their time running from the Friend of the Court.

          • bri283

That kind of commentary and thought process is exactly why we lost in 2008 and why we are going to lose in 2012. But I am sure YOU have convinced YOURSELF.

Oh wait, that won’t matter at all…

            Bri

But, maybe if Mr. McCain had been a rapid, drooling class warrior and Marxist agitator, he would have won.

            Interesting theory.

I would make the friendly suggestion that you free yourself from the agitprop of the mainstream culture…

            And welcome home…

          • kind

I hardly think a movement which has it’s own disease will be a large factor in the 2012 campaign.

Rick Perry would forget his line

      • morstar150

I don’t think the we are the 99% is effective at all especially because they don’t speak for me at all and 99% of my friends who make up about 70% of the total voting population.

One other thing! If the OWS crowd knew what they were talking about they would know that the Wall Street crowd supports Obama and the new too big to fail banks that we now call the finacial institutions. Look it up a large % of his donations come from the mega banks and their chairmen.

Jon Corzine and Jamie Dimon, J. P. Morgan they all have Obama chills down their legs. Unofortuantely for Corzine, he could be headed to for a vacation with Rob Blagoavitch!

I have a few liberal friends and they are arrogant, outspoken and expect conformity. Much like a lot of the left. People who got caught up in the obama zombie movement that got him elected will publicly go along but will vote against him, or not vote in a no confidence move.
