MEMBER DIARY

Meet Tim Scott.

As some of you may know, I now reside in Charleston, SC. Well, the other day when I was watching TV, I happened to see an ad for Tim Scott. Mr. Scott is apparently running in the Republican primary on June 8th to represent the 1st district of SC (the Charleston area) in the US House of Representatives. (See the ad below.)

Well, if you want to know a bit about Tim Scott, here it is. Tim Scott has been in the SC House of Representatives for the last two years–and he is the first black Republican elected to the state assembly since Reconstruction. Before serving in the SC House of Representatives, Tim Scott served on the Charleston County Council for thirteen years. Not to mention, he is just one of eleven candidates to be endorsed by the Club for Growth.

Now, all of this is fine and good; however, to me, Mr. Scott’s resume is not the best part of his candidacy. What is so awesome about Tim Scott is that the man has an inspirational life story, he is a great public speaker, and he has a magnetic personality. I mean, the dude oozes charisma out of every pore. Unlike Barack Obama, he doesn’t speak in bumper stickers (“Hope”….”Change”….). No, instead, Mr. Scott speaks from the heart about his real life experiences and draws people in. And, unlike Obama, Tim Scott radiates sincerity instead of coming across as too cool for school. And finally, unlike Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, Tim Scott actually seems to like people (imagine that!)–instead of just using them for his own personal gain.

I have embedded a video below of Tim Scott’s speech to RNC members at Myrtle Beach, SC. If you don’t have the time to watch the entire speech, then at least watch the first twelve minutes of it–that should be enough to give you an idea of who Mr. Scott really is and what he is about. I highly suggest that we at The Minority Report and Redstate start throwing our support behind Tim Scott.

PPS–Don’t you just love the little frying pan that he whipped out? :-)

What’s the rest of the primary field look like?

Republican Henry Brown is retiring after five terms. Tim should be able to win in the primary and the general.

prove we can win over blacks the same way I was won over: our principles and values and policies that work.

I had a long conversation at my local Tucker, Ga. pub the other day with only me and 5 black guys all of whom were conservatives.

…..And for giving a personal example to back up my diary. :-)

…for an open Republican seat. However, Tim Scott is more qualified (he served on the Charleston County Council for longer–and has also been a state assembly member), and he is just an all around more magnetic/attractive candidate.

There are many others running against him as well, but the others aren’t as well known.

Oh, and a former governor’s son is running, but he’s never held any elected office (he’s just sat on a bunch of boards).

…..Therefore, it is very important that we support him.

Strom Thumond’s son is only 34 years old. Tim Scott is 44 years old, has been endorsed by the Club For Growth, and has a lot more experience in elected public office than Paul Thurmond. I’m not going to vote for or against someone, just because they have a famous daddy. Tim Scott is the better, more qualified candidate.

Edgefield County, which was Strom’s (and Paul’s) home county.

….And for pointing out that Paul Thurmond isn’t even really from Charleston. (My husband also just pointed that out to me. I guess great minds think alike). :-)

….I’m glad that you and I agree on this guy.

      Have a nice night. :-)
