MEMBER DIARY

Palin or Bachmann, Vol. II

However, playing the devil’s advocate, let us say that Palin is out for the time being.  We still have Michele Bachmann and a host of other attractive and qualified conservative women who can run (an explanation for why “looks” are important will be forthcoming.)  If Hillary runs, we will lose with Mitt Romney.  We have to run a woman if the Dems do in order to take away what Warrior has coined “the novelty coup factor.”  Look, a barely qualified black guy beat a much experienced, respected and revered war hero simply so Brian Williams et al. could holla about the “Historicity” of electing the first black prez.  It will just be a repeat with the first woman prez if we do not counter.  The only reason some blacks voted was to bring a black guy into office.  So will it be for the first woman president.

Now, yours truly claims no expertise on the handicapping of national electoral politics.  I do know it is an art as well as a science.  The zeitgeist plays as much a part as poll numbers, demographic studies, and voter trends.  But, as mentioned in Palin or Bachmann, Vol. I, several critics have put me off my Sarah feed for a while, anyway.  They often cite the Dem primaries in ’08 as instructive of how gender is not relevant, since a black guy beat a woman in that mash up.  However, the ’08 primary encounter was a totally different animal.

First, Hillary had Bill Clinton baggage.  Second, in the oppression/grievance sweepstakes, blacks are (or were) number one.  Now that that particular fire has been doused briefly, women are the next protected class to demand their representation (and who can blame them?)  If the Dems run a woman and we run a man of any race, we will lose, period.  And if we do not beat them to the punch and chose a woman AFTER they do, they will simply call our candidate a token or Jenny-come-lately- chosen only for her plumbing.

As mentioned, we have a parade of attractive conservative women available, starting with Michele Bachmann.  One must wonder why attractive conservative women are so threatening to the left.  The lamestream media vilifies everybody from Sarah Palin to Christine O’Donnell to Ann Coulter to S.E. Cupp.  Why are looks so important to the Dems?  To begin with, one of their major constituencies is the MTV crowd, i.e. the youth vote.  But beyond that, psychologically and historically, it goes deep into who they present, and actually believe, themselves to be.  Also, starting with the Nixon/Kennedy debates, they have realized and traded on the power of visual appeal.  Camelot is not an enduring leftwing delusion for nothing.

Basically, it’s sex appeal, but not in the traditional, cheesecake kind of way.  With the Dems, it is part and parcel of their whole philosophy.  “Look at us,” they say, “we are newer, younger, prettier.  Our IDEAS, therefore, are new, fresh and exciting.  We are the party of the future, the new kid in town, the fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”  Or, as “O” the Oracle once put it, “We are the change we’ve been waiting for.”  This is the Obama girl cheer.  This is why they are never held responsible for the enduring mess they’ve made of this country.

(Just think about it.  Almost every problem with which we are now dealing as a national polity began as a great new idea from the left.  Social Security?  We are now drowning in debt because of it.  The Great Society?  We now have a veritable army of gubmint dependents and fatherless children.  Medicare/Medicaid?  It has skewed the marketplace provision of healthcare to the point that another charlatan from the left now wants to make it systemic as well as endemic with the snake oil of “Obamacare.”  HA!  The whole problem began with gubmint interference in that field.  And we have not even begun to discuss the moral hazards involved, the law of unintended consequences, the vast expansion of gubmint intrusion, power, corruption, etc.  However, I digress, that’s for another diary…)

And this is why ANY conservative woman, especially an attractive one, will be anathema to the left and why they will stop at nothing short of assassination to stop her — whomever she may turn out eventually to be.  And this is also one of the main reasons why, with John McCain mechanically labeling everyone in sight with the robotic, inauthentic, almost comical if not so scary “My friend,” we lost the presidency in ’08.  Yes, I know there were other reasons.  However, even for an election coming immediately after the two-term presidency of another Republican, and even with McCain failing to mention Obama’s close association with racists, communists and felons, it was still a mighty close call.

In the general election Sarah Palin will get the votes of pro-life people, basic patriotic people who don’t like the sermons in Obama’s church, people who support their Constitutional rights to keep and bear arms, people who are opposed to Obamacare and death panels, and other people who think conservative traditional values. Haley Barbour, Mitt Romney, or other potential republican nominees would get most of those votes too.

However, Sarah Palin would also get the votes of true feminists, those who want to empower women. Sarah Palin should win in a landslide. Susan B. Anthony would vote for Sarah Palin.

If Sarah Palin doesn’t win in a landslide it means that a lot of so-called feminists aren’t really in favor of empowering women – it would mean that there are a lot of so-called feminists out there who are really just man-hating, abortion-loving hags.

we choose a woman first, the Dems will be reacting to us throughout the campaign. We will have the upper hand, they will be the awkward, uncomfortable guests who came to the party too late.

Also, if they don’t I cannot imagine a liberal feminist voting for Palin!

  • Goldwater_Conservative

she clearly has been a fighter for fiscal and social conservative issues her whole life. But as she does more and more interviews, she has got to start answering the questions she was asked. She has the annoying ability to steer back to her talking points in the answer no matter how far away it is from the actual question that was asked. It makes he look like she is avoiding the question.

Sarah Palin. She answers the question, no BS.

I’ve been told some of my diaries (composed in Word) do not display properly when copied into the RS editor. My problem is that – on my monitor – they look identical to all others in terms of font, size, etc.

My question: what is the common method of RS’ers to compose a diary? Typing directly into the RS editor? Using another WP? If another WP, then what?

    Any help appreciated.

  • Warrior

It all looks the same until you post it. I think the moderators want it in calibri or cambri or something.

Frankly, though, after losing 1000 word articles on their text composer, I just don’t trust it anymore. I’m too busy to re-write stuff over and over again…

  • powertothepeople

as the fonts and such fit the format of the site. You will miss out, by using these two items, such niceties as spell check, but that can be utilized once you paste to the site.

The main problem with Word Perfect is that the fonts do not translate over should your piece be front page material. The mods are not going to take the time to redo your work, so you simply lose out. So if losing work is a concern, simply use the two programs I mentioned above and all will be OK both for the site and for you.

  • Warrior

I talked about Hillary in the first paragraph of THIS diary.

Anyway, can you imagine a liberal feminist voting for ANY conservative woman? Who?

Besides, it really does not matter, since liberal feminists are a small minority. Most women do not identify with militant lib feminists.

Indeed, I think most women would RATHER identify with S. Palin than the driven, unhappy Hillary.

    What do you think?

  • Warrior

I think you overvalue your friendship AND your intelligence…

  • KC

My diaries look the same as all others (on my screen) AFTER it is published.

I’ll never make it to the FP, so that’s not the issue with me. I just don’t want my diaries to go unread because the font style or size is irritating to a potential reader.

I don’t particularly like the RS editor and I can “think” better when doing it on an external WP.

  • powertothepeople

I answer a question posed and you respond with such moronic nonsense.

By the way, writing two pages of nonsensical drivel really excludes you from ever judging another persons intelligence.

But again, if you feel the need to be a jackass, go after those who attack your nonsense, not the ones who simply answer a question posed. And if you need clarification as to the meaning of that last statement, do hesitate to ask.

Just above the WordPress text window is a menu bar.

The last one will give you an expanded menu. The 5th icon there is a clipboard with a “W”. It will open a text box that can receive MS Word text, while automatically stripping Word’s p.I.t.a. formatting.

  • graciegirl

I did not notice the Vol 2 and was answering Vol 1.
My bad for being in such a hurry.

No I cannot imagine ANY liberal feminist voting for ANY conservative woman!

I have a different view of liberal feminists. I do not think they consist of just the militant type. Since I do not hang out with liberals I run into them mostly at places like the hairdresser…They HATED Palin, loved Hillary, voted O.

Then we come to conservative women…here’s where it really gets dicey. The women in my family are moderate to conservatives…i.e. people who vote R. They all hate Palin. They would not vote for Hillary. They are looking for a different candidate and presented with those two would stay home! I also know some R’s who WOULD vote for Hillary…because she reminds them of the good economic times with Bill. Stupid!! but there it is.

Lastly my Tea Party…my real friends who are very conservative. They love Palin for anything but Prez and pray she is not the candidate. They want a values candidate who is well rounded such as Pence, Ryan. They are all educated, intelligent, most had or have careers. They hope someone like those two will re-consider.

Bottom line is I don’t know ANY women who want Palin. I am sorry that does not fit your premise but it’s my experience. Women are all over the place; cannot be pidgeon-holed. They do not want her for the reasons I mentioned in your Vol 1. I only hope the ones who voted for Obama regret their vote…I can no longer stand to go there! I certainly agree that Palin would be better than O. But I don’t think she can win or is the best choice.

  • Warrior

the rest is just your sophmoric attempt to cover…

BTW, no one has “attacked” my comments. I’ve had one agreement and one disagreement. It’s called “reasoned discussion.” You ought to try it sometime.

Besides, I’ve been right while the guru’s on RS have had to eat crow too many times for me to worry about your estimation of my intelligence…

  • Warrior

but your evidence is mostly anecdotal. But that’s O.K., most of my comments are pure conjecture!

Like I said, I’ve been beat down about Sarah enough to know she probably will not be the candidate in ’12. However, I stand by my statement that if the Dems run a woman and we run a man, we will lose — even if it’s Hillary.

Let me make my reasoning clear. There are enough middle of the road women (centrists, moderates, whatever you want to call them) that will vote for a woman no matter what so that if the choice is between a woman and a man, the woman will win.

This scenario played out with Obama and there are far fewer swing black votes than there are swing women votes. What tipped the O win was that blacks who had not done so before were energized to come out and vote. That factor, as well as the number of pure, pro-woman centrists who will swing the vote for a woman in a two gender race, is why I believe so.

  • graciegirl

Although I now live in a small town I have spent the greatest part of my life in Houston so I know a very mixed group of people.
Your diary made me think and what I came up with was that I could not think of one single person I personally know who is FOR Palin. It seemed to me to not bode well for her.

I also do not know women who would vote for someone just because she is a SHE. I expected to find that when I joined theTea Party last year but it was not the fact. So you know these folks that I simply do not know.

I pray that you are right however and not me! I would definitely vote for her if it was my only choice. Your comments have convinced me that I need to ask these people I am speaking for to make sure I am correct so I will be doing that.

  • http://908StraightSt.wordpress.com/ mbecker908

I don’t KNOW what the problem is, other than my guess is that Word inserts either HTML that isn’t necessarily readable by blog software. I do know that if you type into Notepad and copy & paste from there it will work in every blog I’ve posted to. The catch is that you have to enter your own HTML.

Frankly, I finally just gave up on Word Processing software for blogging and I just type into the blog. At RS and with most blogs you can save a partial diary and come back and edit it. I haven’t had any problems since then.

  • graciegirl

I realize I do agree with you that liberal or Dem women would vote for Hillary because she is a woman. I give conservative women more credit than that.

  • powertothepeople

and try to keep up this time even if it is hard for you, I made no argument one way or the other for your drivel, I simply answered a question. You responded to my neutral answer with a moronic reply. If that is too hard for you to wrap your mind around, then I doubt anyone has ever had to eat crow due to you.

And unless I am mistaken, pretty sure MBecker was not in agreement with you “Give me a P, Give me an A, Give me a L, Give me an I, and give me an N” nonsense you bestowed upon this site. So it brings me back to if you want to be a jackass and want to act the tough guy, go after those who actually voiced their boredom and indifference to your nonsense rather than trapping off at someone who made no argument one way or the other and was simply answering a question.

As I stated above, if you are unable to understand (comprehend) that simple statement of fact, please feel free to ask for an explanation.

  • graciegirl

I hope this isn’t threadjack but Bachmann exposed that OCare is ALREADY FUNDED in the massive O Care bill such that it CANNOT be defunded!!

They slipped in 104 billion dollars that is already being spent. She said the only way to stop it is with the resolution to extend the government budget.

I see no reason to disbelieve her. I have to say that woman works overtimes trying to get out the facts! We need to be calling out Congressmen!

  • Warrior

I was responding to your arrogant signature line. How hard is that to understand?

And I wasn’t speaking of mbecker being in agreement, but David123, as in:

“If Sarah Palin doesn?t win in a landslide it means that a lot of so-called feminists aren?t really in favor of empowering women – it would mean that there are a lot of so-called feminists out there who are really just man-hating, abortion-loving hags.”

    Exactly.

And pwr2thpepl, try paying attention, you are already falling behind…

  • Warrior

Although I did not catch Hannity, I don’t doubt the thing has been surreptitiously funded and set in stone.

So many people now view the gubmint as Santa Clause it is going to take all we’ve got to turn this train around…

  • powertothepeople

since you are not man or woman enough to admit your own stupidity, not man or woman enough to admit MBecker pissed you off and you retaliated against me, I will help you out. Because quite frankly, you have no clue who said or wrote that line, you assume, and we all know what kind of moronic people go around assuming.

Since I can see you are a weak person with little to offer other than a “roo rah raddy rad, Palin is awesome and I am glad” crap to this site, you attack the wrong person since it is obvious you have no clue who said that line, only made assumptions, and you are too cowardly to back off and go after the one who rightfully found your piece lacking, I will simply ignore you and go away realizing fools are fools and there is little a person can do to change that. Only you can change your status of fool. have at it.

  • Warrior

I do not care what mbecker thinks.

I was not then, nor am I now, “pissed” at anyone.

I do not care who “who first said or wrote that line.”

That supercilious sig line first appeared on THIS thread under YOUR name, so you will be responsible for it.

    Capish?

  • powertothepeople

talking? Void so big in your life, the poor reception to your drivel driving you nuts, mommy did not hug you today, and you had to

    A) Assume I wrote or said the line,

    B) You actually feel so slighted because you believe the line appeared just for you, which you would be wrong, or is it common practice in your silly life to go after someone for something so innocuous, who said nothing to you, and who was being pleasant by helping someone with a question. Such a silly boy………….

    C) You are a wimp unwilling to back down when you were and are clearly wrong and out of line, that is unless you are such a prick you always talk crap to people who have nothing to do with you and had no conversation with you. If this is the case, be a real man and do it in real life, stop hiding behind your comp. Be a failure in life as it is real pathetic to watch you implode here.

    D) You woke up and realized you are still pathetic and Sarah has still not left Todd for you.

Really does not matter, since you seem to be missing so much, I am more than willing to keep coming back and chatting with you so you have the illusion of having something or someone in your “life.” Really do not want anyone to be as lonely and full of misery as you seem to be.

Now either be a punk or a man. I said nothing to you, said nothing about your Palin cheer, did not put the sig line up on this post or even this week, could care less what you think or how you feel, only find it funny you want to act like a 5 year old caught in a lie yet who refuses to admit it. You acted bad, you have no defense and you are too much of a fool to see it or admit it.

Now, since you are immaterial to life itself, much less me, going back to the adult side to enjoy actual good writings and people who do not attempt to burden others with their miserable existence. Sorry you chose to stay here, but have at it………

  • powertothepeople

if you were smart enough to look through archives or even my own posting record, you would see how stupid this line is and how really pathetic you look and sound………

“That supercilious sig line first appeared on THIS thread under YOUR name, so you will be responsible for it.”

Get a life, you really are not that important.

  • Warrior

You posted on a public forum.

I have the right to remark about anything on it.

If you don’t like it, tuff.

Nobody cares about your stupid “posting record.”

  • Warrior

    you twit.

  • http://www.thejoyofreason.com Greg Garrison

On the Write Post page, there’s a Visual tab and an HTML tab. I make sure that I’ve selected the HTML one and paste in the text. If you use this technique, then the default font is used automatically, because your post won’t have any font tags.

I typically use effects like strikethroughs, italics, and boldface manually by having a less than sign, the appropriate letter (s, i, and b, respectively), the greater than sign. Then my text, then the same less than+letter+greater than combination, but this time with a / before the letter.

Like this: “This is how you make boldface!”, except that the brackets should be less than and greater than signs.

Anyway, if you paste into the Visual tab, it carries over formatting from Word, WP, Pages, etc. That’s where the screwy formatting causes problems. If you really like using a visual editor, then paste into the HTML version, then click the Visual tab and apply whatever effects you want using the RS visual editor.

Both of you. Find other things to comment about. Just stay away from each other if you can’t keep it civil.

…which enables you to do spell-checking, etc.

However, when you’re done, you must save the document as a text file. Close Word, and then open up the text file in Notepad; cut and past the whole document into the “New Diary” page.

As mbecker notes, you will need to create the html codes on your own – and you also will likely need to do some reformatting. But you can use the New Diary features to help out with the most common html coding.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

And it does it SEPARATELY for EACH PARAGRAPH.

Which makes it a total pain to clean up.

Fortunately, WP automates it, as we recently learned. See Vlad’s comment above.
