Living the Good Life on O-Force One

HopePlane
"Are These Peanuts? I said ARUGALA!!!!"

Senator Obama is flying in style these days. CBS News’ Allison O’Keefe reports today on the regal setting aboard "O-force One", complete with a throne for the man himself.

From the article: “Obama’s section of the plane rivals that of any first class. Recently the front cabin of the Boeing 757 was retrofitted to install four individual chairs that resemble La-Z-Boys. They are free-standing and made of plush leather with pockets on the sides. There is also a booth which seats four for a meeting or a meal.”

After seeing some of the photos, Politico’s Mike Allen remarked that  “Air Force One may seem a tad claustrophobic.” Having already improved on the Presidential seal and touring the world as the presumptive Leader of Earth and one we’ve been waiting for, it should hardly be a shock to discover that The One has decided to change the plane as well.

Read on for photos of the Hope plane, featuring Obama’s Presidential Throne.

Isn’t neat how he’s already the President when he’s on his plane? Just like he’s already the President when he’s in Germany.

This is not the first upgrade Senator Obama has made to his ride. He had a nice new paint job for his world tour:

Obama's Paint Job

When you’re the biggest celebrity in the world you need a big plane. This one is, like the hummer copter, powered by hope … And a whole lot of gas.

Consider this an open thread.

Wish I could get some animated gif action to show the spinners…

And I never thought knowledge of this movie would become relevant…

I like all the new “stuff”, but I would love to help you eliminate the “wierd stuff” that happens….if I can help, let
          me know….

The new set-up of the Recommended Diaries has caused the ACtion Alert graphic to get chopped when using the latest release of FireFox. May need to scale the image down some.

It shows up fine in IE.

I did shrink the image when I uploaded the new stuff, but it’s the same URL, so your browser may have the older, larger version cached.

          • Neil_Stevens

… had to check again to see that you weren’t attributing it to me, heh.

            Thanks Neil.

I should always follow rule number one when a web page doesn’t work: Reload.

It’s how I survived the first two weeks of 3.0. Don’t know how I didn’t think of it now.

P.S. The updated graphics look awesome!

absentee did a great job with them.

he was going to start supervising the Renov. of some of those 757 to cargo planes (?)

    Don’t hold me to it

    • streetwise

      as described on Boeing’s website

The 757 has the right balance of operating costs and capabilities (especially its thrust, which makes takeoffs easier in mountainous areas with short runways) for cargo missions.

Strangely, the staggering success of the 737 series spelled trouble for the 757. With a much larger installed base, the 737 has huge economies of scale when it comes to parts and service, and its smaller size makes it easier to fly profitably. As airlines increasingly opted for the 737, Boeing took the 75 out of production.

The left will always blame the right for what the left is doing — culture of corruption, indoctrinating the children, blatant racism, ignoring the Constitution, and on and on.

So now that you’ve read a couple of responses that tell you exactly what kind of accommodations McCain is flying in, are you humble enough to admit that you said something stupid?

  • E_Pluribus_Unum

What, is Caleb so cool, his diaries don’t require Recommendations?

I’m starting to feel a lot of the same vibe in the comments that had 2.0 rocking just about the whole time I was there.

            I’m lovin’ it.

          • Pickles

And it sounds almost identical to Obama’s. And I read this USA today article where John Kerry’s and Bush’s planes sound identical.

The simple fact is, McCain doesn’t let reporters up to his straight talk express area, so they haven’t got a clue what’s in there, and this is another opportunity for some “uppity” talk.

          • Pickles

            Clearly a qualification for President.

          • Pickles

In McCain’s spacious first class area, there are 12 plush leather seats for the candidate, his wife and senior staffers. The ?straight talk? area features a long leather bench and another first class seat which McCain sits in when he talks to the press ? or would, if he used the area.

Since they acquired the plane with its specially modified area, McCain has spoken to the press there precisely once, over a month ago. All of these sections are separated by curtains, which are always shut as tightly as possible as soon as the plane takes off in order to keep the different sections of the plane from interacting with each other.

            Get some.

            Oh, and

The plane, a Boeing 757-200 built in 1990…Interior designers divided the 94-seat plane into five cabins. Kerry’s front VIP cabin has six seats. A conference room has eight seats and two tables. Eight campaign staffers occupy a third cabin. The news media are allotted 72 seats in two rear compartments….The aircraft formerly flew the colors of Avianca, Colombia’s national airline. Now, the white-painted sides are emblazoned with “John Kerry” and “President…..George W. Bush used a similarly configured Boeing 757 during the 2000 campaign. Now he commands the much grander Air Force One. “

Tell me, does that make John Kerry and George Bush presumptuous and uppity?

Well, I want to Rec’d absentee’s excellent diary. Just call me a ‘wants his cake and wants to eat it too’ kinda guy.

But since you brought up the question of what I want, let me add a couple of other things I want:

            (1) I want the Repubs to ride this ‘Drill Here Drill Now’ thing to a McCain victory, and a retaking of both House and Senate.
            (2) I want the Cowboys to show some guts in the playoffs.
            (3) I want my Supra to run.
            (4) I now have changed my mind on the Veepstakes, and I want McCain to choose Fred.

          • streetwise

Democratic candidates will be pilloried for climbing into their fancy planes, even if they purchase carbon credits from Al Gore.

Republicans won’t be. Life may not be fair, but life is GOOD!

pilloried each time they get caught enjoying some hypocritical gay sex behind their wives back, all the time trying to strip the LGBT community of their rights.

            Have a nice day :)

          • dbecraft

            Not exactly a cogent comment…

          • streetwise

politicians are free IMO to have all the sex they want of whatever variety.

            Two caveats:

            1) not on my dime
            2) no economic screwing of the taxpayer in between orgasms.

  • Dave_in_Fla

Not even Obama could be that stupid.

And I’ll disagree with CBS, this ride is a lot better than any first class I’ve been in.

  • absentee

The stained glass windows are just a joke, the real photos are after the fold, and pretty much just as bad.

  • Dave_in_Fla

They look very real. Of course stained glass in aircraft windows?

  • walter_hanson

You know at some point somebody at the Obama campaign has to realize that with Americans trying to pinch pennies and pay their normal bills they’re going to get angry. Since I don’t want Obama to be President keep it up. Especially since that money won’t go to productive things like television commercials, radio commercials, campaign literature, etc.

Is this really why he turned down public financing so he can have a new seal and a plane that is better than Air Force One. What’s he going to do with Air Force One if he gets elected.

  • janis

that this guy is going to—-what WILL he do after he loses? How do you go back to being just another one of a hundred after being THE ONE for months?

Seriously, what will this little man do after this campaign is over and he tanks? Besides talk about how racist we all are, that part’s a given.

  • Pickles

if you don’t believe McCain is flying in equal or better comfort.

Being hypocritical or one sided in an argument is a waste of time.

  • gamecock

    his heaven on earth.

    Hubris

  • Socrates

He will go back to being the most liberal Senator, but with a lot more media attention. And the kostards will call him President Obama anyway.

CBS News? John Bentley, who’s covering the John McCain campaign, reports that McCain flies in a slightly smaller Boeing 737, which has four compartments: the first class area, where he sits; the ?straight talk? area for interviews; a business class section for staffers; and the back of the plane, where the press and secret service sit.

In McCain’s spacious first class area, there are 12 plush leather seats for the candidate, his wife and senior staffers.

From the same article. You might note the lack of a presidential throne in McCain’s plane. Or more likely, you won’t.

  • JKH1232

He flew coach as a Senator.

  • janis

about Diebold and stolen elections ad nauseaum yet again.

Well, that’s what the Opossum can do after he tanks, he can spend his remaining Senate years going from state to state verifying that he actually lost. It’s not like he ever did anything substantive while in the Senate chambers anyway.

But I just think it would be delicious to be there to witness his first day back to the Senate and his first encounter with Hillary.

  • speciallist

“Hey John, you are wanted in the Straight talk area..”

    McCain: “Oh no…not again”…lol

  • David_Hinz

is that he is probably being PAID to be this stupid

  • Chuck_Norris_Republican

    The contrast is noteworthy.

  • Chuck_Norris_Republican

The hydraulics are also pretty sweet.

  • JKH1232

But I remember some kind of puff piece in Time during the 2000 election cycle having a story with anecdotes about people sitting next to him in coach.
