Visual vs. HTML in Post Editor

Technorati Profile

You may have noticed in some stories and diaries recently that there is a tendency to see the formatting code rather than the formatted text the code was meant to create.

For example, you might have seen a link that looked like this: <a href=”link.url”>My Link</a> … instead of being an actual link like this:
My Link.

Well fixing this is easy if it has happened to you. When you load the editor (this diary is formatted as a representation of what the editor looks like) you come in with a default ‘view’. That view is one of two tabs, which are indicated above by the yellow arrow. The two tabs are VISUAL and HTML.

If you are in visual, you are in what is called a WYSIWYG editor, meaning what you see is what you get. So if you type in code people will see the code. If you are in HTML tab, then that is what is known as a source editor. In that mode, typing the code for a link will result in an actual link.

So, if you wish to type in your own code, please do. Just make sure you are using the HTML tab. On the other hand, we now have a SWEET Wordpress WYSIWYG. It has buttons to do all that laborious coding for you. You can simply start in visual (or select the Visual tab if you start in HTML), and what you see will, indeed, be what you get. Easy as pie. Now go write something!

It’s a pain to do cut and past of the hrefs instead of just clicking “open link in new window”.

Socialism doesn’t work. It looks nice on paper, but it’s been tried and it’s failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).
