President Newspeak Wants A Cookie

.

The left and the press (but I repeat myself) are falling all over each other in their haste to congratulate Obama and his manly response to the pirates. A retch-worthy visit to the comments section of left blogs reveals revolting mission-accomplished-gasms and endless reposts of photo fakes featuring Obama being cool or hip with the words “I Got This” adoringly emblazoned upon the savior of the West. To say the fawning adoration is grotesque would be a dramatic understatement and an insult to the merely grotesque.

There is little surprise in adoring Obamatons rewriting the story to evoke a man of action yelling “Charge!” After all, we’re in the midst of an “overseas contingency operation” and this hostage taking was a “man-caused disaster”. So it makes perfect sense to change Obama voting “present” into “come on, you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?” That’s how newspeak works. It’s not reality, however.

.

As anyone who can read and has eyes and access to common sense knows, the decision to fire was made by the Commander and forces at sea. As one excellent Redstate member put it, they were tired of being made a laughingstock.

If you didn’t click on the vomitous links to the fawning media above, I understand. Suffice it to say that their heart palpitations regarding Obama’s decisiveness stem from the fact that he basically said “yes that’s true” regarding the fact that military has authority in life or death situations to use deadly force under the Rules of Engagement. Yes, you see, what the mighty Obama hero did was affirm that the military is indeed empowered to do their job in the fashion in which they have been empowered to do so previously. Another way to put that would be he did nothing. Blackfive’s outstanding Uncle Jimbo has been on top of this story from the start. Jimbo is fine with Jonah Goldberg being fine with Obama being credited with no good guys dying, just as he would be blamed if they had. Fine. I can do that. I’ll be fine with people who credit Obama for not screwing up badly enough for any of our troops to be harmed. He is expert at not doing anything in a way that causes nothing to happen. Huzzah.

What is not fine is the praise heaped upon him by the eager press who are bursting at the seams and frothing at the mouth with barely contained anticipation of screaming “SEE!!??????!” right in the face of the right when Obama does what they just deep down KNOW he will do: saves the world and the cheerleader and totally fulfills them in ways no one ever has before or ever will again.

But the absurdity of the overreach of claiming a personal victory for the man whose only discernible role is that, after several days, he stopped being in the way, is hard to fathom. It’s like crediting the moon for sunlight because an eclipse ended. Observe the AP’s Jennifer Loven:

For Obama, the benefits were instantly clear: an American life saved and a major victory notched against an increasingly worrisome scourge of the seas off the Horn of Africa.
[snip]
The rescue appeared to vindicate Obama’s muted but determined handling of the incident.
[snip]
Still, it goes some way toward dispelling the notion that a liberal Democrat with a known distaste for war – Obama campaigned on his consistent opposition to the Iraq invasion – doesn’t have the chops to call on U.S. military power.

Talk about premature immaculation. Is this what we shall expect from the Ministry of Truth? Everytime something happens the new Pravdas are on the scene telling us how Obama nailed it? You know, I was wrong, above, about the perception they are crafting. It’s more like this:

Of course, they don’t hesitate to claim justification for their adulation in the careful, light praise of Goldberg and Little Green Footballs and others. Sure, that faint praise for Obama for doing nothing gives cover to the revisionists who are already at work lionizing this as Obama’s decisive victory, but hey at least is isn’t mean. Well done.

And so our deadly makers of war have become an afterthought, and the courageous Captain a bit player, or even a villain. And Obama’s press and lapdogs continue transcribing the Obama scrolls as they see fit. He at the front, standing strong and proud. The Great Man.

You know, I think I know exactly what he was doing during the crisis, and exactly what he is doing right now.

Unlike media colossi such as Rush Limbaugh, I can dis Obama’s CinCness at will and not worry about overreaching. Rush has a reputation and ratings to guard. Me? I’m just a wannabe diarist period. (Love ya, GC).

killing poor underfed and tired Somali fishermen? There is no level of BS they cannot reach.

The left loves the military all of a sudden, it makes me sick.

He probably wants to bring the SEALS up on murder charges…
    Oh wait…Obama is president? Nevermind

No matter how much the adoring media tell us how well he is doing, how brave he is, or how he is in control of the economy; I just look at the Rasmussen poll (released this afternoon) that says he is just +2, 36%/34% in strong favorable/unfavorable and realize it ain’t working.

There are all kinds of polls showing all kinds of positive results for him, generally because of the internals. Rasmussen is the best in the business and has no dog in this fight.

    perfect!

You can bet your a$$ Obama would have denied issuing any orders, and the Bainbridge commander would have been strung up for giving the order.

Isn’t he wonderful, terrific, so darn sharp it is amazing what we have been fortunate enough to elect. How in Gods good name have we managed to survive all these years without him… He truly has been sent from above. That is the thing about the left….. They do not understand crap. I waited to hear today that it was BUSH”S fault, and CNN did not disappoint : They even had the audacity to report that the pirate issue was not addressed in the last eight years by the Bush administration…… I swear to you, even if I were a complete moron, and had no interest in politics whatsoever and had no inkling about the difference between right and left, I would have enough common sense to see these people for what they are….. I would be so on to them.. It is so amazing to me.

Since shortly after the cruise ship was nearly hijacked in 2004-5.

I should know, I served on a ship similar to the Boxer in early 2006, and we participated in at least 2 separate interceptions and their aftermath. At least one pirate was killed. So they can’t say Bush didn’t do anything about it. It’s been a multinational force base out of Djibouti. I believe the British, Dutch, and French, and more recently, the Chiinese, are all part of TF 150.

Since President Bush let the Navy do what they knew how to do, there was no story.

President Obama interfered and nearly made a mess out of the whole thing, and when the Navy did what they know how to do, President Obama is a hero?

It must take extraordinary hallucinogens to be a lefty (media included) and belief the stuff they say.

        • LibRick

There was a story here and that was that this incident involved an “American” flagged merchant vessel. Other than that, I agree with you.

The only hero’s were the US Navy and the Captain and crew of the Alabama. Obama added nothing to a positive resolution of this incident.

One more thing, I’m one of the lurking leftys on this site and I can assure you that our hallucinogens are not extraordinary , just an ocean of Chardonnay served one by one in dainty little glasses. :)

There has been a whole lot of things going on in Somalia that is amazing the MSM has just plain been quiet about over the last several years…. Very rarely would any mention of joint Ops with Kenyan and/or Ethiopian forces be mentioned. The Pirates expect, and this “incident” aside, will probably still see yet another Democrat administration cut-and-run from any concern/actions there. The big ZERO should, at least, pull a Clinton and lob a few Cruise-missiles to give the appearance of willingness to do something!

  • RJD

not, say, like North Korea launching missiles…

    • JustLeaveMeAlone

because otherwise The One would have had to find more spending to cut, which, as we all know, is a bad and unpatriotic thing to do when we are trying to spend our way out of a recession.

Let’s see… the NKs sent up a missile, so we cut our missile defense shield budget. For pirates, I guess we’d have to stop arming naval vessels.

you know…. the Blame America First crowd has been saying, and the Pirates are playing at their heart-strings, that this is going to just create more Pirates/Terrorists – and that has always to some degree been correct IF/WHEN and only if/when we are unwilling to take the fight completely to them and destroy the enemy. Fact is, of course, there will always be MORE CREATED, or that step up, as long as they know most of them will continue to get away with the acts of Piracy/Terror. No attacks on their Home-bases speaks to them far more than one incident at sea, and they know Obama is still WEAK!!! They will challenge again, and if it goes bad how much “CREDIT” will ObamaBinbiden be assigned!?!?! We know that answer in advance, of course!

Those who hate us will ALWAYS find reasons/excuses to pull more into their cause until such time as we make it clear that their volunteering automatically signs their death warrant – not a free Asylum trip to the US and Welfare for Life!

he allowed General Curtis Lemay to work for victory without second-guessing him from Washington.

  • septembergurl

was, what kind of CIC is Obama? Is he a fool, like Carter, or a coward, like Clinton? Carter, as we recall, involved himself in endless second-guessing and fine-tuning of the hostage rescue plan, which was a fiasco, whileClinton was so terrified by the Vietnam experience that he feared any use of force and only reluctantly permitted it.

The answer is, Obama is a coward. Avoiding the issue as long a spossible, trying to broker some kind of deal with lawyers & FBI, then assenting to the use of force in a way which guaranteed that if unsuccessful, Obama could blame the commander of the Bainbridge, if successful he could take credit.

Meanwhile, the need to deal with the Somali pirates in a proactive way is apparent. Some say Afghanistan is Obama’s Iraq, I say Somalia is Obama’s Afghanistan. Like Bush, he is faced with an attack on our sovereignty by lawless non-state actors operating in a failed state. The failure ir inability of the “government” of Somalia to immediately return the captain to us is a sign that this is a regime that needs to be replaced. Bush would have taken them out yesterday1 Or rather, since the Somalis are aware of Bush’s tendency to invade countries at the slightest pretext, this episode would never have happened. Sigh.

Or to paraphrase Sean Hannity yesterday, the CinC’s decision to allow our military to be military should be regarded as ‘ordinary’ not PMSNBC-like “extra ordinary”…

  • xjudson

your problems are with the press and left bloggers. Obama has not attempted to take any credit for the rescue. President Obama will be judged in 4 years and re-elected or kicked out based on his performance. Unlike Bush he’ll accept his responsibility for his failures.

Incidently. If we’d had the sharpshooters take out sadam and his sons we’d never have had to invade Iraq.
