Helping with Hurricane Gustav, Day Two

Because helping those who help themselves is the American way

I’d like to add to yesterday’s post suggesting our readers chip in to charities such as the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, as well as some excellent local efforts that were left in the comments, that generous giving to a good cause is a great testimony to the American spririt. It speaks to the belief that the government shouldn’t be responsible for everything–and that private citizens in fortunate circumstances can open their hearts and wallets when others are in need without putting additional burdens on the public purse.

I happen to think Bobby Jindal is doing a terrific job helping Louisianans help themselves, and I hope we can all see our way clear to making their job a little easier.

I know that as a good Republican, I’m staying glued to FOX, putting my life on hold and staying in constant prayer for the poor “Folks” in New Orleans.
Since it looks like everytime there is a Hurricane ANYWHERE in the Gulf, might I suggest that we ALL as good Americans build the “Folks” a new City for the New Orleanians, complete with free transport, food, fuel and of course clothes, not to mention pet food and constant National Guard security. Also a couple more billions for a new levee and we should be all set. Lord help those poor schmucks if Ray Nagin is replaced by a Republican .
We dont need a convention anyway, MAV and Sarah will kick Barry and the hair plug’s butts anyway!

AE, with all due respect and admiration, I’ve got to tell you that I find this focus New Orleans and Hurricane Gustav unseemly and discouraging.

Large number of people in northeast Florida are *still *innundated from TS Fay. TS (soon to hurricane) Hanna is looking like it will blast ashore somewhere in the low country of coastal GA/SC.

Yet I have heard little or no sympathy, concern or recommendations for relief preparations for these areas. There have been many natural disasters this year including flooding along the Mississippi, tornados in the Midwest, and there will be many more before the calendar turns again.

Yet a hurricane approaches New Orleans and we suspend the convention, solicit aid for the victims and evacuees. We are so saddled with the albatross of Katrina that we have gone into full hide mode because a storm approched New Orleans seemingly to the exclusion of every other disaster to strike oour fellows.

The Dems and their handmaidens in the press have got us. And nothing that we will do will get the press to say nice things about Republicans, nothing. I am not suggesting that we ignore the situation but there are more people in need that the good people of New Orleans.

    Your friend, John.

      as reported by FOX.

The RNC has set up a hurricane center, and is promoting aid organizations as recommended by the Republican governors of the affected states.

BTW, I bet we won’t see any MSM comparisons of the performance of Jindal v Blanco.

I agree John, and I would like there to be more opportunities for people to give relatively small amounts in the grand scheme of things to local charities that can make those dollars go a long way. Unfortunately I’m not educated enough to do so for FL and Fay, but I’m willing to learn…
