My father, brother, and I were coming home from a trip to Ontario and were in the Calgary airport waiting for our bags. While standing around the baggage dispenser we saw a veteran. A bomber pilot.

Now in Canada there had been much handwringing at the time (about 2 or 3 years ago) about how the Heroes who risked their lives to take the fight to the enemy were not some of the greatest men who ever lived, but were actually comparable to the SS Deaths Head killers. War Criminals. This narrative, to me, still, is one of the most vile and toxic ever advanced by the lying cowards.

My father walked up to the man, and asked him if he had flown over germany. I could tell by the look on the mans face he didnt want to say, probably because of the hoopla. But, being a war hero, and being a Man, in every sense of the word, put his chin up and said yes, he had. I think he thought he was about to get a face full of lying coward spit. My father, who doesnt do the physical affection thing, gave the man a hug, and called him what he rightly was, a Hero.

By the mans reaction, I could tell he was relieved. Who knows how many poison pill swallowing children had bought the acidic war criminal story. Perhaps his own grandchildren. Who knows. Lying cowards had taken the pulpit in the country. But the real, good people, like my father, knew the truth. The Hero and my father talked about the war; How woman and children were forced to spend their nights in the tubes living in fear of the Nazis; How Justice and Duty required reprisal.

I had time today and because I find this whole sky is falling phenomenon terribly entertaining, I find myself watching a congressional committee and Bernanke have a chat.

I apologize for my ignorance, but I do not know who is on the committee. The committee is the House Financial Services Committee. I went to their website, member list has no pitchers. Mazel Tov.

Brad Sherman just asked Bernanke why he hasn’t ordered the banks to stop paying dividends.

Obviously, a gaffe worthy of the gallows, in my mind, but not for the reason your all thinking.

Bernanke has been pretending that the banking sector was still being operated by the private sector. He defined owning a 40% stake in a bank yesterday as a ‘public-private partnership’. You and me may call that Italian Fascism, but again, not the point Im getting at. Bernanke is trying to calm markets, thats sorta what his job requires when he goes out to talk to the clowns on the committees. But when even the committee members start to get the whole picture, spinning is a hard job for Bernanke to do.

The committee (of public safety -snark) is starting to realize the government is in a position to tell the banks what to do. Let that swirl around your brain. Elected officials and government bureaucrats are walking up and exploring the notion that they can tell the banks what to do. A gentleman on the same committee, I believe Garret, then asked straight up what they could and could not do. Could we tell them how and who to hire? Yes. Could we tell them when and how we issues dividends? Yes. Can we tell them how to operate their business? You wouldnt believe what Bernanke said, so Ill just tell you. Bernanke tells the guy that technically yes, but they wouldnt tell a bank how to do its business operations.

Right. Sure you wont. Does the name Henry Paulson mean anything to you? It should mean liar. Whatever your opinion of Tarp, and Son of Tarp, or on Paulson himself, one must admit he lied about what he was going to do with the money. Out and out lied. I know Treasury isnt Fed, but to me, any credibility these people had is long gone.

Bernanke, with that answer, was trying to continue his little show of pretending the government wouldnt be getting involved in the banks, notwithstanding the fact that they own them. Not even being partisan here, all the democrats on the committee were walking up to the fact that they could tell a bank what to do, the visions of social engineering (and grafting) floating in their heads, and little piggy smiles forming on their little piggy faces.

The republicans on the committee where aware of the fact that government can tell a bank what to do, only they were not smiling.

Sherman had other points that outed him. He why any business wouldnt do stress tests daily and always be in a position to handle a crisis. I mean, that sounds nice, but for real? Could you imagine running your business so conservatively that you had enough provisions to survive Armageddon at any and all times? These people do understand what risk is? That one must assume risk if one wants to generate profits?

Olmert will be gone, but one cant help but wonder what Olmert, Libby, and co will do to try to get the public to forget about the inept handling of Lebanon. If they do anything, of course. 

Will also take this opportunity to remind people that unilateral peace action on Israels part has been met not with peace but with war. This practice on Israels part should, IMHO, end.

People, lets take a step back, shall we? India was just attacked. It was attacked by a group with the implicit backing of the ISI, Pakistans secret (police) service. The ISI has often been described as an army within an army, or as a state within a state. Regardless, the ISI is a branch of the government, that is to say the state, of Pakistan.

India, it seems, has located, or believes it has located, some of the people behind the attacks on Bombay…er, Mumbai. Specifically, it has located the camps of the LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terror group which some allege is linked to the ISI when being polite, and flat out acknowledge is linked to the ISI when being real). India, as you can probably imagine, is a little ticked off that these killers where unleashed on her city. She wants to bomb the camps.

Lets take another breath. The LeT is officially banned in Pakistan. Yet Pakistan still allows these terror camps to operate. And operate in such a way that THEY ARE NOT HIDDEN, AND EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT THEM. Regardless of what the Pakistani government may say, the LeT is not banned. The fact that they are allowed to operate pretty much freely should tell one all one needs to know about the highly dubious claim that Pakistan had nothing to do with the attacks on Mumbai.

Sun Tsu, in his book Art of War, tells the reader that in situations like this, one side must give the other side an out. The ability to protect honour and save face is crucial. A face saving measure has indeed been offered, if not out loud, at least in logic. If India wants the camps gone, and Pakistan has ‘banned’ the LeT, Pakistan can do its part to calm passions by getting rid of the camps herself. Pakistan wont, of course, because it doesnt have the political will to take on the crazies who make up the ISI, some key areas of the Army, and the general population of the country.  But ‘cant’ and ‘wont’ are words in two different universes. Pakistan ‘can’ deal with LeT, the ISI, the islamists, if it wanted to be a real state. However, Pakistan, although it posseses a parliament, is still essentially broken up into kingdoms run by some family or another. These people are not interested in reform, and the current situation affords them power they refuse to give up.

So we are at this situation where India has been harmed, and embarassingly so. She seeks retribution for reasons as simple as honour, justice, and revenge. When America was attacked on 9/11, a similiar demand by the Americans towards the Afghannis was made regarding the Taliban. The Afghans refused to give up Bin Laden, the result of which is that one day little Afghanni girls may one day be able to go to school and learn to read.

So am I, your humble writer, advocating India indeed proceed with its desire to have the suspects of the LeT handed over to them, or else? Yes, indeed I am. Pakistan is a failed state. The government of the country does not control the country. The most obvious example is the the northwest of the country, but similair enclaves of power exist throughout the nation. The army is split between western and islamic ’schools’, if you will. The ISI runs amok, unchecked. Oh, did I mention these crazies have nuclear weapons? This situation is not a tolerable one any longer.

India is in the right. India has every right to demand justice. What India needs from us (besides a missle defence system) is not so much military support but moral. If the two countries do go to war, and India succeeds, we may have an opportunity to refrom a muslim country that cannot go wasted.

Obama campaigned on tax cuts. Thats our turf. Democrats win when they run as Republicans.

Wanting to tax health insurance, regardless of his intentions, sounded very much like a democrats position.

It is unfortunate for Palin that she is now tied to the mess that was the McCain campaign. It is sad to see the woman, really one of the only reasons for the base of the party to get excited about McCains campaign, now blamed for his defeat. That McCain even picked Palin shows his camp understood the deficiencies of their candidate and where willing to address them. How can one now turn around and credibly try to pin blame on Palin? Picking Palin implies that not picking Palin would be a bad move, that not picking a fiscal and social conservative would have had negative effects on the campaign. The fact that McCains campaign was run so terrible that he couldnt win DESPITE having Palin on the ticket is in no way a reflection on her.

Some of you on this site may remember I was a enthusiastic backer of Big Mac. My support for Mac came only after he won the nomination. I am a yellow dog voter. For those who dont know, a yellow dog voter is someone who would vote for a yellow dog if the party nominated it.

However, my support, for what its worth, of Palin is genuine. Although I cannot prove it in any scientific way, I am positive that the GOP should embrace real conservatives like Palin if it wishes to regain power. My only proof would be the one that I stated earlier, that Barry won by running as a tax cutter. Fiscal conservatism works best (and naturally) with social conservatism. Mrs Palin represents both of these camps.

If you can get through the shrill tone of hysteria that the writer tries with some effort to have permeate the story, you should be able to get to the crux of the matter. Iraq is pretty safe right now.

“The biggest ever sale of oil assets will take place today, when the Iraqi government puts 40bn barrels of recoverable reserves up for offer in London.”…”Access is being given to eight fields, representing about 40% of the Middle Eastern nation’s reserves, at a time when the country remains under occupation by US and British forces.” Well, that bolded part should actually read: Because the US has provided stability. But we will let the loony leftist have his fun.

The point? Simple. Despite The One, who seems to not understand how civilized people do business, wanted to loot Iraq. As recently as the last presidential debate, he was talking about how the 10 billion a month surpluss of Iraq should be going to America. Why is this important? Because, my friends, if we followed through with Barrys instinct, that the Iraqis should be paying us their surplus, then we would not have gotten to this day.

The Iraqis are using the surplus that Barry wants to loot to rebuild their infrastructure. They are rebuilding and repairing oil wells and refineries that have been neglected for decades. This creates jobs and opportunities (spelling sorry) for local Iraqis, as well as opening up the country for international business. As a bonus, the world gets more oil. Everyone wins.

There is another side to this story that I dont think Barry would want to talk about. The only way that Iraq has a surplus is with America. America was able to get rid of the corrupt tyrant Saddam, opening up Iraq for business. But one cannot conduct business in a warzone. Barrys favourite strategy, THE SURGE, has allowed the security situation in Iraq to improve so dramatically that the Iraqi government, yes ok, with our help too, was able to invest billions into its own oil infrastructure (without the overt worry that someone would blow them up the next day) and has now gotten to the point where they are able to sell their countries goods, 40 billion barrels of the stuff, to a hungry world.

Now I ask you, would the Iraqis have gone through with the massive investment both of capital and of blood to develope their oil industry (which will probably pay us back for the war one day btw) if they thought we were going to be taking, off the top, Barrys desired 10 billion a month?

Barry wanted to be Alaric, or Attila, or even Theodoric. Did the fair people of Gaul and Italy keep farming when a thug was stealing all the loot?

Im not a native of the Empire of Liberty. Maybe thats why I love your country. For foreigners like bobbymike and I, America is still the shinning city on the hill. Democrats want to make it easier (read force people into) for unions. In B.C., they made a law that if you employed 5 people or more you had to unionize. Alberta, with no such law, got a lot of new business. Singapore, with no such law, got a lot of new business. B.C. lost a lot of jobs, and money.

Democrats also bemoan the fact that people who want to make money are going overseas. Offshoring. They want to make this illegal. America, cant you see what will happen? Business wont comply unless you pay them the difference. Pay them or they will leave. Who pays? People say the taxpayer but this is a lie. Listen man, if you make 40 gs a year you dont have any money to pay tax. You may grumble about the amount you pay but all of you combined isnt very much. The ‘top 2%’ as barry likes to call them, they pay for everything in this country, tax wise.

America, why do you want to hold your best citizens hostage to appease the worst? When you hear barry talk about how he wants to give 95% of the people a tax break, but you dont ask where this will come from, you are being used. When you hear barry talk about how he is going to double the tax on the top 2% without asking yourself whether or not this means your employer will have any money left over to employ you, you are being used, plus you are a fool. When you hear barry talk about universal insurance without questioning the cost, the need, or even looking around the world to see what such rationing has done, your being used.

America. This election is important. Redstaters, you need to go out and challenge the people in your country, challenge their ideas. The intellectual left isnt smart. They are bankrupt of ideas, and have been for decades. Why do they prevail? Because we do not challenge their ideas. When you let someone assert that the left cares more, you have failed the conservative cause. When you let your professor blame the right for the ills the left has caused, you let us down. When you let your newspaper columnists write stupid leftwing pieces, and you dont flood the guys office with rebutalls, you let us down.

America, you are the worlds last best hope. Please, with these few weeks left to fight the beast that Obama, Ried, and Pelosi will create, you must get active. You must go out and campaign, door to door if need be, for our guys. The left has no argument for any of our ideas. Our ideas are rooted in nature herself. Cantor was really good, I thought, of explaining the reality of the situation (as in he wasnt about to let the Democrats make the Republicans look foolish, he rightly pointed out that about 94 Democrats voted against bailout, and to paraphase, what up with that, pelosi?)

The speach is terrible. Pelosi is an idiot. If anyone reading this is in DC, spit in her face. Im against the bailout myself, but this speach is the most stupid political move I have ever seen made.

This is hilarious. Apparently the crew working MSNBC political coverage of the democratic convention all hate each other. Whats more, because they grew up in touchy feely households, none of them have the common courtesy, manners, or professionalism to keep it off the air.

Scarborough got into tiffs with both Schuster (a tool) and Olbermann (tools would beat me up if I called Olbermann a tool). The dust ups are pretty funny. Scarborough accuses schuster of having a democratic bias after Schuster refers to the GOP as Scarboroughs party. Schuster claims he is an independent, and Scarborough replies “right, everyone in this network, on their voting card, says independent.” but its more awesome than it reads because Scarborough had his eyes rolling up and his tone was awesomely derisive. Schuster actually proved he was a man by standing up for himself. And by that I mean promptly running from the set.

Olbermann and Mathews are rumoured to hate each other too. On the air, while Olbermann was introducing some stupid democrat, you can hear Mathews yelling, out of shot, (paraphrasing now) “You made sounds during my interview, Im gonna make sounds in yours!”. Holy hand grenade, these people are what, 50? 60 years old? There whiny little children!

Anyways, the best part of this smile inducing story is their President, Phil Griffen, trying to spin the situation as if everything is cool and as it should be at his network. But heres a little quote from some unnamed source from MSNBC: The situation at our channel is about to blow up.

Im not trying to diss Target shoppers, I shop there, but lets be real about this. Michelles $150 beetle juice dress (oo I went there), or an Oscar de la Renta?

I know the media is in the tank for Barry. I get that they love him. I just dont think its wise for Vanity Fair to be lowering the value of their brand, which is what they are doing, when they say Michelle is a better dresser then Cindy. She isnt.
