Or to put it another way, given the calibration of your bs detector, the bs level of the Obama campaign was of a magnitude so off-the-scale that it blinded your bs detector - and those of an awful lot of your contemporaries as well (along with those who were older and should have been wiser and whose bs detectors should have been better calibrated).

So don’t whip yourself too hard for the past. You’ve discovered the man behind the curtain (to use the Wizard of Ox analogy) - or that the Emperor has no clothers - so now your task is to recalibrate the bs detectors of your peers to help them to regain their sight too.

Barack Obama seems to be the exception to the rule; my general distaste for his Administration aside, when it came to soundbites (read: the news most people my age catch), he did NOT seem like an unctuous phony. He seems to be the exception to my “philandering and smooching” rule. It was harder, at least in the beginning, to catch him with his hand in the cookie jar because he put out this aura of being so cool, calm, and relaxed.

However, I know better…but many people do not.

My daughter has no political idiology. And, when I can pin her down, she’s not that far left of me. For example: she’s vehemently opposed to late term abortion. And she doesn’t support most government social programs.

With her it’s the greedy capiralist, rascist and war monger meme. Which, of course, she cannot support with anything resembling a factual or cogent arguement.

She’s a lefty because her friends at Nobu are lefties and it’s cool.

So, I’ll keep working on her and watch for the signs of enlightenment as our country goes down the tubes..

Mugged by reality comes to mind, and it is happening now.

I expect huge GOP gains across the board in 2010. Obama’s personality cult will wilt as he owns the Great Recession which next year will be deeper and accompanied by higher int rates and inflation.

Da’ Yutes will relate to that.

They flocked to Reagan and the GOP due to the cultural relevance of pocketbooks.

Are they potential liberals about to get mugged by reality, has their service re-directed their generation’s inner-directedness, or have they always been the good kids who earns their nation’s pride and gratitude and recognize that they stand on the shoulders of giants?
