I Will Stand Behind Jan Brewer

First, watch this:

Now, listen to this:

It’s not often you see a politician show emotion while under fire; normally, that’s reserved for the activists and the pundits and the people who don’t have to worry about campaign commercials showing them sobbing into their waffles every 28 seconds. Emotional leaders make people uncomfortable–especially those people who rely solely on soundbites when forming their opinions about hot button issues.

In this case, however, I think Governor Brewer’s obvious anger is a good thing, because it finally shows–if I may be so bold–that Jan Brewer is OVER IT. She’s done the dance, sung the songs, met with the bureaucrats, and what has it gotten her? A pretty lawsuit, and a battalion of Obama’s flying monkeys bearing a friggin’ POWERPOINT presentation.

The situation is so devolved it’s almost comical. On one hand we’ve got the President of the United States throwing together a slideshow basically telling a fellow executive officer to go jump off a bridge; on the other, we’ve got idiot politicians rolling over for the minority vote, and US cities feeling completely comfortable with giving the finger to federal immigration laws. I’m sure if a third hand were involved, it would be using a copy of the Constitution to line the cage of an oil-ravaged pelican. (Won’t somebody think of the pelicans?)

The point is, it’s time to stand behind Jan Brewer. Jan Brewer is not perfect; she will say and do things that you will not agree with. She may say the wrong thing, or let a gaffe fly. This is to be expected–she is human. I’m not advocating giving the woman a free pass, but I am asking you to stand behind her on the issue of illegal immigration.

I say this because right now, Obama is daring Jan Brewer to defy his Administration. If you don’t believe me, watch the video again, and consider the abominable way in which he has treated her. He grimaced his way through the preliminary meetings and press conferences, and now he’s playing his cards, the first of which being his pet lawsuit against the State of Arizona. He controlled the forum, he’s controlling the debate, and now he seeks to control the result.

Standing behind Jan Brewer means standing up in the court of public opinion. It means not keeping your mouth shut when you hear people talking about that disgusting bunch of racist pigs down in Arizona. It might mean losing friends; I personally have lost two over this whole mess, but I’m okay with it if it means that by doing so, I regained little bit of control over the debate.

I firmly believe that Jan Brewer is ready to fight; I will fight with her, because I’d rather go down with this ship than have to look back and admit that I gave up and took orders from a man–nay, a movement–that showed more deference to an angry mob than to the honest efforts of people forced to work alone to contain an ever-growing threat against my country.

It’s hard to do a factor analysis on the Obama Amatueristration. Where does the puerile incompetence end and the mendacious Marxian twaddle commence? Jindal wouldn’t piss on the POTUS if he saw him in flames. Unless, of course, V-POTUS Bite-Me could manage even greater iniquitous stupidity.

are the same people who would likely beat someone to a bloody pulp for cutting in line to get tickets to a sure-to-be-sold-out concert/movie.

Ask those people how they would feel if they weren’t able to see their favorite musical act – after waiting patiently in line for days on end – but someone else was allowed to jump to the front of the line the day the tickets go on sale. I’m willing to bet they wouldn’t be too happy about that…..

She not only needs people to stand behind her, she needs some to stand right beside her. She is obviously strong. Anyone who could sit through a PPT presentation about such an important issue, and only show a little bit of emotion about not having a hard copy (ie: evidence) to follow, is Superwoman in my book.

And, don’t worry about anyone who walks away from you over an issue like this…winners don’t walk away, whinners do, especially when they know they can’t win the argument :)

Brewer may not always say or do what pleases everyone, but, she has not backed down (either has Christie), and these days, most do out of fear and/or intimidation. The O obviously didn’t intimidate Brewer, and for that she has earned respect.

I understand that the AZ law went through 2 courts for review of Constitutionality, including the liberal 9th circuit, and was found to pass muster. Not only does it mirror current Federal Immigration Law, but, I understand it goes even further in language to protect all citizens from racial profiling. I don’t know what court, including the SC (with it’s current make-up) would strike it down. What arguments could the fed. lawyers bring up other than to say that the issue is a federal government responsibility, while they have totally ignored their responsibilities to protect the safety of America’s citizens and to protect our borders?

Also, with the newly released information from a former Government Attorney speaking out about the “Racism and a lawless hostility toward equal enforcement of the law,” in the Holder justice department, I would suspect that a stronger magnifying glass will be held over this justice department. Holder, with the AZ lawsuit, is portraying racism with the refusal to protect American citizens, but in fact working to protect the mainly Latino illegals.

I wish this case would be taken up in the SC, and sooner rather than later. I believe we would see a ruling similar to the 2nd amendment ruling yesterday, which protected the citizens against the usurpation of their Constitutional rights. We must do this before Obama stacks the court with Kagan types. The next confirmation just may be a replacement of Scalia, Thomas, Roberts or Alito.

The AZ law that went through to lower courts was the employer mandate, requiring employers to verify immigration status of their employees. The Supreme Court announced yesterday that they will review these cases. That law is not the same one as SB1070, but a decision in the former case in Arizona’s favor would be an excellent harbinger of what might happen with the SB1070 lawsuits.

      • Scope

Very recently, there was a guest on one of the Fox shows, that helped to write the AZ law. I heard him saying that it was reviewed by 2 courts, and that it passed Constitutionality. I don’t believe he referred to only the employer sanction portion of the law. But you are correct, and that is talked about in this article-

        http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/05/28/20100528arizona-employer-sanctions-supreme-court.html

With all the blowing and blustering about how 1070 was going to bring about Racial Profiling, by this admin, and all those boycotting, and of course all of the national Hispanic groups, I would surely have thought that the federal focus would be on much more than just the employer sanction portion of the law. That actually makes me think that they knew they had no legs to stand on when they threatened the lawsuit.

It is going to be very very interesting to see what the ruling of the SC will be. Is it not state’s rights to issue/revoke business licenses? I believe 1070 makes it a crime to be in the state illegally, therefore, if a business knowingly hires illegals they would be hiring criminals. Wouldn’t that come under harbouring and abetting criminals that shouldn’t be here at all?How would an employer know if someone was illegal (if they have fake id) without beefing up and checking into the e-verify system? Isn’t that what the AZ law is trying to do to begin with? Isn’t e-verify a part of federal immigration laws?

and so will the rest of America. There are a number of things I don’t like about Jan Brewer, and I have been leaning towards voting for one of her 2 main challengers. However, this issue is now front and center and may well represent the spark that sets off the 2nd American Revolution (this one largely peaceful, I hope). We will never shut down the leviathan from within, whether we have a GOP Congress or even a President Palin, or Daniels, or whoever. The only way we can defeat the monster is a multi-pronged attack from the states. And this is probably the issue that will start it.

I grew up in the Yankee country of Indiana and Ohio, and was taught the usual disdain for the Confederacy and its attempt to break up the United States. However, having now spent most of my adult life in the South, most recently the Southwest, I have a very different, more balanced, understanding of that era in American history. The election of Abraham Lincoln was the catalyst for the creation of the Confederacy. In a very similar way, I see at least a possibility that the power grab of the Progressives under Obama as having the potential to do the unthinkable again. I’m not advocating secession, but I must say that what I thought was unthinkable a few months ago would now be something that I would have to give a lot of thought to. It may take the conservative southern and western states banding together to make a real statement to wake up the kool-aid hungover American people.

One thing that disturbs me is that the collectivists are moving so quickly. Thoughtful people have not time and resources to come to grips with what is going on, let alone what the consequences will be. What we do have going for us, however, is that we are still a moral people who expect truth and morality from leadership.

2010 should be not only a momentous change election but also will signal, as Glen Reynolds says, a new Great Awakening.

The states’ role in government is in for a much needed reaffirmation, from being appendages, to enacting the peoples’ will of the several states. Whether or not we ever again see the threat of separation is less significant to me, than whether or not the states are capable of electing leaders who will challenge the behemoth as Brewer is doing. The more integrity we elect, the less likely a separation will be thought of, because the liklihood increases that leviathan will be quelled.

Now if she’ll just learn to take an axe to state budget. Our state budget is the second worst in the US and she did nothing but kick the can down the road with her last budget, raising taxes, borrowing money against future lottery revenue and spending TARP money.

If she doesn’t “man-up” on the budget, all of this is for naught because we’ll be buried in red ink and in the same BK court as CA.

  • timpclimber

As a teacher have sadly watched the money and resources that used to go into providing a good education for regular students go to provide make-up and remedial help for the children of illegals. My teacher colleagues in Arizona say its even worse there. Obama and his motley crew headed by Eric the red Holder, care nothing for the law. Brewer wouldn’t need our help if they just enforced the laws we have.

  • tngal

There’s a fairly hefy article upon Politico where Chris Christie talk about rebranding the republican party. Focusing on fiscal issues is the thrust of it. But on page 2 he was asked about the immigration situaiton.

    _____________________
?This is a federal problem, it?s gotta have a federal fix,? he said. ?I?m not really comfortable with state law enforcement having a big role.?

He said that without border security, enforcement of existing laws and a ?clear? path to legalization for immigrants, there would never be a fix. ”

    _______________

Ok, we’ll the feds aren’t taking control of it. Which is why states have to do something. Furthermore the “clear path ot legalization for immigrants” remark troubles me. We have clear paths, avenues, boulevards etc. We don’t need any more. This is not what I expected of Christie. Perhaps I’m misconstruing what he meant. Hope so.

    Anyway, here’s the link;

An actively campaigning Brewer this fall may help get rid of 2 liberal Dems in congress.McCain, I?m not so sure. Could it be that Giffords and Grijalva will be packing their bags? Let?s hope so!

      in AZ-01. She must go!

    • IJB

      …Theoretically, at least, he’s beatable.

However, his district is also 50% Hispanic, so practically I doubt he is….

      • aesthete

        equals unbeatable.

        • IJB
    • mbecker908

Grij will EVER lose an election in that district. He and Pastor will both pull an imitation of Robert Byrd and die in office.

Giffords and Mitchell are both beatable. I doubt Brewer has any coat tails at all but the immigration issue may kill off both of them. In addition, the fact is that there are more “libertarians” in AZ than there are “conservatives” and TheBoyPres™ and his overreaching may be the real nail in their coffins.

McCain is unbeatable give the competition.

      • IJB

        …Because AZ-07 is a lot like CA-51, a district I’m familiar with.

It is *theoretically* possible for a Republican to win a district like this. But the scenario under which such a win is possible is *extremely narrow*:

Essentially, it would take an *extremely* low turnout election, in which all the (Dem-leaning) Hispanic voters stayed home (which they have a tendency to do much of the time anyway – but I’m talking about *way more* than usual), leaving only Anglo and Hispanic Republican-leaning voters as the only ones showing up.

Like I said, it’s virtually like drawing a Royal Flush.

But, if such a ‘very low turnout’ scenario was going to take place, 2010 is the year.

(However, such a district would almost certainly ‘flip back’ in the very next election, like LA-02 is likely to this year, so the GOP would likely only hold a district like AZ-07 for two years. Of course, redistricting is coming up, so maybe it could be reconfigured to save the hypothetical GOP officeholder beyond 2012…)

        • aesthete

I live in the district, and every couple of years, the GOP throws up some no-name sacrificial lamb to run against Griji. The candidate recruitment pool of a college/not-quite-suburban Hispanic district is piddling, and Tea Party activity is virtually nil (there’s quite a bit of activity in the neighboring district, where Giffords was elected).

Jesse Kelly has a pretty decent shot in that district, if we coalesce around him.

Brewer has no coattails, and her campaigning around the state will in no way help, though SB 1070 definitely helped Republican prospects. McCain is gonna be our Senator for at least six more years, and one hopes that Hayworth goes back to the latrine he crawled out of when he loses.

    • aesthete

He’ll leave when the Robert Byrd Wing for Malfeasant Politicians (the recently renamed second level of hell) opens its gates to him.

  • Flagstaff

the opponent will be Terry Goddard, the current AG. He was interviewed by Greta last night, and didn’t cover himself with glory. Our side needs to study interviews like this for clues about how to beat the suckers.

    Among other things, he said

GODDARD: Let me make it very clear. The bottom line is it’s tough but it’s not impossible, and we need to focus on that. But here’s why the problem is more difficult. The folks that are coming across the border — these are not ones and twos. These are not Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. These are armored convoys that are led by organized criminals called coyotes. They’re organized by the cartels, and they are incredibly sophisticated and they’re very, very well armed. So to stop them, I believe, the focus should be on the people that organize them. Go after the organized criminals who put together these convoys. If we can take them out, arrest them, put them in jail, frankly, the border security becomes a much simpler problem.

Get that? “it’s tough but it’s not impossible…. These are not Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts.” Apparently Goddard has heard of some Scout troops somewhere who are into drug smuggling and he thinks we could beat them, but armed criminals are another matter. My Gosh, Terry, we destroyed the Iraq Army in a matter of weeks, twice, thousands of miles away, when they were supposedly the third or fourth toughest army in the world. Don’t you think we could stop ALL of these people, in our own country, IF OUR GOVERNMENT WANTED TO?

So his solution is to not even try. Instead, catch only the organized criminals. JUST HOW DO YOU PROPOSE TO DO THAT IF WE CAN’T EVEN INTERCEPT THE “INNOCENT” ILLEGALS? Do you mean we need to invade Mexico and catch them before they leave home? Haven’t we been helping Mexico solve its drug cartel problem for years? That plan is already a failure.

    Then,

GODDARD: They can find ways to get through the washes. They can get through the mountains. They have 24-hour surveillance on both sides of the border. They know where the border patrol officers are. They use secure communications between their scouts. My basic point is this is a very wily and difficult enemy, and what we need to do is to go after the organization.

Wow! We are up against an implacable enemy. They’re like the lizard-people from “V.” No wonder we can’t win. Let’s give up. Maybe we can feed them our lawyers.

    Democrats: “The Party of CAN’T!”

today. I’ve only heard sound bites from the speech, but, apparently is was the usual “They (the R’s) don’t like how you look or how you sound” bunch of BS. Oh, and the borders are more secure now then they have been in 20 years. Ok righto.

It appears that one of the loudest loudmouths on the illegal issue is Luis Gutierrez DIL (what else would you expect out of the O’s corruption syndicate), in a May 19 article, has threatened the O that if he didn’t move on immigration legislation- “Gutierrez said he’s willing to give Obama more time, but not much more: He would consider a failure to move on new legislation by the Fourth of July a formal invite of another kind. You are going to see more and more acts of civil disobedience.” Guiterrez was already arrested when he and a few dozen protesters protested across the street from the WH during the Mexican President’s visit.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/18/AR2010051804236.html

It would be political suicide if the O admin. brought comprehensive immigration reform up for voting before the mid-terms. There are many D’s that fell on the sword for the O with Obamacare, and will pay for that in Nov. If they were asked to twist on that sword they already feel on, I doubt they would be willing to do it. I also don’t see any R’s supporting that legislation right now. Guiterrez is hopping mad because this legislation hasn’t already passed. He wanted it, and expected it in the O’s first year.

I remember Guiterres, and the Hispanic Caucus, threatening to vote against Obamacare if it didn’t cover illegals. I guess he was promised that those illegals will be covered once amnesty is passed. It appears that Guiterrez is worried that the R’s will gain the majorities, and they will write legislation that won’t grant blanket amnesty.

Luis Gutierrez is a really shady character, but, then again, considering where he comes from, he’s just a pea in the Communist pod-

I will also stand behind Ms. Brewer and all of the other people that still have COMMON SENSE!

These days are strange… The beauty of life is that history does repeat and a lot of history has been ‘covered up’.

I have lost some immediate family members to the insanity of this current admin. I, of course still love them and I know that life on this planet is but a blip…

I also know that I will be vindicated for my foresight when all this pent up ‘anger’ is acted out. This summer promises such a show.

One member lives in S.Orange County California. A very affluent community that has it’s share of said II’s. I lived their for a time and I have no hate for any person…
I just think people should go through the lawful steps to work in the usa.

It is not only the II’s that caused these problems; it’s the people that employ them also. They line up across the street from a costco in the dana point/capistrano area everyday…

In Orange counties case their are a lot of affluent people who do use said labor and they are some of the biggest f a k e s
    you will meet.
Of course ideologies don’t really matter in this case either. California is a very BLUE state in the coastal areas .

Happy 4th to everyone! I hope for a real change soon. We can!

There are certainly reasons to do immigration reform. But… There are more giards on the border than ever. 2. More fence has been built. But the “virtual fence’ is not functional and never will be. A regular fence just gets cut. You can’t afford to have guards stationed within eye sight of the entire border. Even the minuteman guys couldn’t make a difference. 3. Crime in border cities is down. Some of the safest cities are along the border. 4. Most importantly, Brewer lies. She said “our law enforcement officers” found beheaded bodies. Never happened. reporters contacted coroners in many border counties and they haven’t had any such reports. So now Brewer’s spokesperson says she never said that. Sorry guy, everything is on tape now.
