Shifting Sands
Generational upheaval seems to speed up with every passing decade. Over the last twenty years a seismic shift has occurred in the balance of world power. A world that was ruled by two massive powers – the United States and the Soviet Union, fractured into multiple pieces. Today the world is dominated by a reluctant quasi-imperial power in America, and is rapidly turning to new power centers. The rise of China that simultaneously tracks the declining growth of fossil fuel production in North America has given the Middle East a financial leverage and global power that could not have been dreamed of a mere half-century ago.
The Baby Boomer generation is in firm control of Western power. The rise of this generation has coincided with a breakdown in traditional values, as well as a dramatic increase in social diversity. America is less American than before. For its part, Europe has opened the doors to a level of Muslim immigration never seen before. These developments have weakened the fabric of the West. The rest of the world has seen this reality, and is eagerly exploiting a long awaited chance to push back against the Anglo-European dominance of the last four centuries.
A paradigm shift is occurring now. Islam is becoming the world’s most dominant threat to traditional Western civilization. China is using Western social restructuring and economic weakness to exert a level of force and power not seen in centuries.
It is ironic that the United States’ arguably greatest victory in defeating the USSR with scarcely firing a shot could be the long term cause of her ultimate relegation or downfall. Those in Washington who were determined to defeat “the enemy” likely never paused to consider the chaos that would come from a multi-polar world. Now, America and the West face a rising superpower threat in China, while also facing a subversive and rapidly growing ideological global enemy in Islam. A paradigm shift? Indeed! The East is finally rising, again.

SCOC AND GAY MARRIAGE
The justices of the California Supreme Court made the right decision, and yet much of the reasoning is seriously flawed.

It seems that the justices decided that LGBT persons in California already enjoy the benefits of marriage, and that the will of the people regarding the simple word, “marriage,” ultimately should be respected. Implied in the court’s opinion however, is the idea that if the justices thought differently they would have no qualms about invalidating the will of the people. They gave democracy their stamp of approval this time.

As a current LU graduate student I can shed some light on the University’s position towards the College Democrats.

Many do not realize the restrictions that exist and the standards enforced to ensure the maintenance of a Christian atmosphere on campus. Many private colleges have started as “Christian” but today are bastions of postmodern liberal thought. Liberty’s success comes from her commitment to excellence in all areas of the university combined with a thoroughly enforced evangelical Christian worldview. The university cannot allow the College Democrats to be an officially sanctioned club. Doing so would start the administration on a logical slippery slope that would ultimately lead to the loss of purpose. Liberty is successful because of an unwavering stand upon Christian and conservative values.
Those who disagree do not understand Liberty’s mission or values. The name Liberty refers to freedom of the heart which can only be achieved through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Liberty does not mean license.
The Democratic Party is an institution that has been captured by the radical left. Allowing an organization to preach values or appear to endorse values that are fundamentally at odd with Liberty’s mission would be foolish. The University exists to serve the children of evangelical Christians. It is not a reformation center for leftists.
It’s Our Time
It is time for conservatives and classic liberals to put aside our differences and come together again. It is time to retake this country. When we regain power, we have to hold onto it for fifty years. We have to win generationally. If we don't it will be the end of the United States of America.
