The Obama Video That Can Win The Election For John McCain

It's not the one you think

Right now, the McCain-Palin ticket can still win. For example, they could win by taking the toss-up states and Pennsylvania. And what’s the best way to do that? By using the following video of Barack Obama from a 2007 campaign event in Iowa. This is not about guilt by association or name-calling. This is about how we can harness nuclear energy to establish energy independence, lower energy costs, stop sending hundreds of billions to buy oil from dictators, and stop polluting the atmosphere:

This issue could be a real winner for John McCain. McCain has a can-do plan to build “45 new nuclear reactors by 2030, a huge increase since there are only 104 reactors in the country today.” A President Obama would not let that happen. The price of energy may be going down right at the moment, but we’ve recently had a taste of the future if we don’t prepare.

Nuclear energy currently supplies about 20% of electricity in the United States. Compare that to 80% in France. Technology is available right now to make new plants much safer than they used to be. We’ve come a long way since Three Mile Island, and public opinion is now much more supportive. McCain offers leadership, while the most liberal senator in Congress — Barack Obama — lets ideology cloud his judgment.

John McCain has also been pushing for clean coal and other forms of clean energy, while Sarah Palin’s natural gas pipeline from Alaska would help too. And let’s not forget the plan of T. Boone Pickens to harness wind-power for 20% of electricity in the United States. But many more nuclear plants must be on the table as well, and only a President John McCain would make that a reality.

Paste this video with a clip from one of the debates where Obama insists that he is in favor of nuclear energy after McCain accuses him of being against it.

Nuclear’s not popular in Nevada. And I’m not sure if PA is really a big nuke state; the older folks there remember Three Mile Island too well.

Here’s another video of Obama. He just wants endless R&D without actually building anything….

The RNC has all of Obama?s statements here.

This is from a September 8, 2008 poll in Pennsylvania: “Eighty-seven percent of respondents to a new public opinion poll say they support allowing Three Mile Island to extend its operating license so the energy plant can continue to help meet the region?s electricity needs.” So, I don’t think Pennsylvanians are clinging to the fears they had thirty years ago.

As far as Nevada is concerned, the following is from a June 15, 2008 news article:

In a related question in this month’s poll, 45 percent of the respondents said a presidential candidate’s stance on Yucca Mountain will have no influence on how they vote in November’s election. Only 14 percent said a presidential candidate’s stance on the nuclear waste issue would have a major influence on their voting, while 38 percent said it would have some influence?. In the latest poll, most of the respondents who favored fighting Yucca Mountain were Democrats, 74 percent, or were women, 69 percent, or were from Clark County, 63 percent. “I find it very interesting that the opposition is centered in Las Vegas and heaviest among women and Democrats,” List said. “By contrast, it’s interesting the people in rural Nevada who are closest to the project and are along the rail line that would serve the project want to see us deal for benefits.” The poll found that 55 percent of respondents from rural areas felt Nevada should try to deal for money or benefits.

So, McCain certainly has some room to maneuver on this issue in Nevada. And notice that my post did not mention nuclear waste storage. Many Nevadans strongly support nuclear power even though they don’t want the waste stored there.
