So Colin Powell has endorsed Obama. Let’s see, Powell is pro-abortion. So is Obama. Powell is pro-affirmative action. So is Obama. Powell has stated repeatedly that tax policy should ensure fairness. Obama likewise wants to “spread the wealth.” The endorsement of Obama only demonstrates what unpaid prognosticators could have told those million dollar a year experts years ago. Powell never was a Republican. He has been aligned with the Democrats from the day of his retirement from service.
On today’s talk show, Powell explains: “I think he is a transformational figure.” THAT’S what I’m afraid of. Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot were all transformational too, Colin.
Another note to moderate Republicans: Hey guys, are you happy with your fellow moderate? No? You should be–this is what you moderates do. They pretend in order to achieve status, and then attack the hand that feeds them–to maintain that status. Yes, you keep telling us that Palin’s conservatism is what is sinking McCain. Really? Do you think that McCain picking another moderate would have changed Powell’s position? If you do, I’ve got a nice bridge to sell you.
Affirmative action is now at its zenith here. A unqualified candidate for president who has never run anything; who has never governed anything; and who has policies precisely on line with Karl Marx–is going to be put into our highest office solely due to his race. Doubt me? Just ask if Obama would be where he is at if he were a white man. The answer is inevitable.
The Republican party must clean house or it is lost.

Thanks for proving the Lib's point
shooflyguy68 Sunday, October 19th at 1:14PM EDT (link)There is no possible way that a black Republican could possibly support Obama for any other reason other than race.
Gen Powell was, in my opinion, exactly right on every point this morning. This party has moved to far to the right especially on social cultural issues and the selection of Governor Palin will prove to be a disaster. After 8 years of out of control spending capped off by a $1 trillion Wall Street bailout, now suddenly our party is concerned about government spending? Sen. John McCain is a good man who should have been President for the last 8 years. Instead, he has built a campaign organization filled with the people who dreamt up the robobcalls about his family in 2000 and selected a completely unqualified running mate based on her So-Con credentials.
So, Gen. Powell will not be the only Republican either voting for Obama or abstaining on Nov 4th. I personally can’t stomach voting for Obama but I won’t be voting for the man leading the party which has abandoned me.
Ummm.... and the Dems haven't moved far-left, correct?

Nice "argument"
Jack_Savage Sunday, October 19th at 1:45PM EDT (link)What a poor excuse for an argument - “anti-intellectuals”. So very predictable, and so very weak.
I’ll end this conversation with this comment. Nowhere is there a more significant underpinning of intellectualism than in the conservative movement, and if you had spent one moment examining the subject seriously, you would know that.
“Republican-lite” is what you want, and it is fitting that Colin Powell is now your hero. Neither one of you were ever Republicans, and if you were, the party is far better off without you both.
Who is jamming anything down your throat?
shooflyguy68 Sunday, October 19th at 1:46PM EDT (link)If you are a man and don’t want to marry a man, then don’t. If your church believes it is wrong to have same sex marriage ceremonies then the government should defend their right not to perform them.

Anti-conservative imbeciles delude themselves and thus their arguments always appear non-sequitur in the face of history. Mind you, it is really God they despise, not those who believe in Him (it’s just that He’s unavailable to throw stones at).

It needn't be I suppose,
shooflyguy68 Sunday, October 19th at 2:57PM EDT (link)but it has been made such by the opponents of same sex marriage. I haven’t heard any decent, non-religious arguments as to why our Federal or State Constitutions would not offer equal protection to same sex married couples.
From a religious point of view, my faith is opposed to same sex marriage and I would not support the government forcing my church to perform same sex marriages. However, if we allowed my faith to set our civil agenda, there would be no divorce either. Divorce is much more destructive to family life than is same sex marriage but I wouldn’t support a constitutional amendment or any law that would outlaw divorce. I will just chose not to divorce my wife and to work hard to make our marriage work. That is how I will show my support for faith and family.

The Constitution demands equal protection
shooflyguy68 Sunday, October 19th at 5:30PM EDT (link)under the law. It doesn’t matter what the majority wants, although I would argue that the majority opinion is changing towards the pro-same sex marriage rights side anyway. The government probably shouldn’t do anything to encourage or discourage marriage anyway. From a civil point of view, marriage is a contract and the government should do nothing more then help enforce contract law. However, if the state is going to allow marriage in a civil sense, there is no constitutional reason to not allow this right to same sex couples.
From a religious point of view, marriage should be defined however each religious organizations wants to. I don’t mind that the Roman Catholic Church, my Church, will likely never allow same sex marriages. I wouldn’t want the government telling us that we had to. However, my Church’s teachings does not get to supercede the US Constitution.
'moving far right on social-cultural issues'
Aurelian Sunday, October 19th at 5:39PM EDT (link)Are you serious?
Since we live under a system of judicial supremacy (that such a system was never intended hardly matters anymore), then the true position of a party or candidate must be judged by the type of judges they would appoint.
If McCain were to succeed in putting more Scalia-types on the bench, then the social and cultural issues would simply be settled by the states for their own purposes, and by Congress for federal purposes.
Obama, on the other hand, would appoint far-left activists who would impose leftwing policies on the entire nation.
There is no doubt about what I’ve just said. It is yet another sign of media bias (and McCain’s ineptitude) that Obama has NEVER been called out on the obvious contradiction between his moderate-sounding, ‘can’t we all just get along’ talk on social issues versus the uncompromising, leftwing views which his judges would impose on the entire nation.
And Obama knows full well that his judges would do this, and that makes him a phony on social issues.

shooflyguy68 Sunday, October 19th at 8:19PM EDT (link)For same sex couples to have all the rights and responsibilities of civil marriage without the name “marriage” works for me. However, I do understand the impulse to want to be accepted. To me, two men or two women who love each other and are married is a wonderful thing that is equal to the relationship I have with my wife.
I think of how I would feel if Protestant Christians insisted that my Roman Catholic marriage wasn’t valid or was less worthy than theirs. That would certainly be their right, as Americans, to believe what they want. What would not be American, is for them to create a law that would enforce their point of view.

Affirmative action?
mikefilancia Monday, October 20th at 11:21AM EDT (link)So…Obama is a “totally unqualified ” candidate who will only win because of affirmative action? Did I miss the concern for white affirmative action here? Republicans didn’t seem to have an issue with the supremely unqualified GWB–his entire career is the result of white affirmative action–Yale, Harvard, getting out of Vietnam, not prosecuted for going AWOL, Arbusto saved due to Dad’s friends, etc etc. I won’t go into his list of spectacular failures as pres.–he has EARNED that 24% approval rating!(Plus Jeb and Neil Bush benefiting totally from Dad pulling the strings for their business ventures). McCain–got into Anapolis through Dad and Grandad’s string-pulling-(and graduated 894 out of 898)-ditto getting a fighter pilot’s berth, no punishment for crashing a few planes, setting USS Forrestal on fire. Palin? Where’s her experience? Running a town of a few thousand where she wasn’t responsible for schools or tranportation, screwing up the only big project she had going, leaving the town 20 million in debt. Hiring an administrator to run the day-to-day stuff as gov because she really isn’t too interested in the nuts and bolts, hiring her incompetent high school friends to positions they are totally unqualified for…there seems to be a lot of affirmative action going around. Repubs need to wake up and face reality–I know it’s hard after 8 years of denial…
