Remember the paranoia about Iran acquiring nuclear weapons? Then it slowly changed.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/06/02/politics/main5056426.shtml
“What I do believe is that Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations,” Obama said, adding that the international community also “has a very real interest” in preventing a nuclear arms race.
Now the argument is changing again. From hotair
“I think we are fully capable and secure dealing with any present or future potential Iranian threat,” he told CNN’s Chris Lawrence in Baghdad, where he is on a brief trip.
“The whole purpose of this exercise we are undertaking is to diminish the prospect of the Iranians destabilizing that region in the world. I am less concerned — much less concerned — about the Iranian potential. They have no potential at this moment, they have no capacity to launch a missile at the United States of America,” he said.
We are going to engage Iran in Talks agains. Here is Secy Clinton’s threat
“Iran’s continued failure to live up to its obligations carries profound consequences for the security of the United States and our allies,” Clinton said in a speech at the Brookings Institution that previewed the administration’s agenda for the U.N. meeting. “Our concern is not Iran’s right to develop peaceful nuclear energy, but its responsibility to demonstrate that its program is intended exclusively for peaceful purposes.”
But Iran has been stating that peaceful energy garbage all along. It will continue to do that. And oh… BTW.. Iran continues to deny Holocaust
The Iranian president said Israel was formed on a “false and mythical claim” and expressed doubts whether the Holocaust, when the Nazis killed 6 million Jews during World War II, was a “real event.”
Today this came out from Nuclear Conference
VIENNA — Overriding Western objections, a 150-nation nuclear conference on Friday passed a resolution directly criticizing Israel and its atomic program for the first time in 18 years. Iran hailed the vote as a “glorious moment.”
—-
Israeli delegate David Danieli denounced the vote as “openly hostile to the state of Israel” and accused Iran and Syria of “creating a diplomatic smoke screen” to cover up their “pursuit of nuclear weapons.”
But chief Iranian delegate Ali Asghar Soltanieh said the vote should serve as a warning to Washington and other supporters of the Jewish state.
“The U.S. Administration …. has received a message that they should not continue supporting Israel at any price,” he told reporters.
The leftist style is to change the issue when you can’t win. Iran has a right to nuclear energy. Iran is not a threat to US. The argument is changing.
It’s a Mad Mad World…

Don't they generally claim "peaceful nuclear intentions" in one breath...
clowngirl Saturday, September 19th at 1:00AM EDT (link)and then talk about how they want to “wipe Israel off the map” in the next.
I love how he says “they don’t have a missile that can hit the United States” as if that’s the only thing that’s relevant. Since when are we isolationists.
Thanks for the diary antisocial - though it has me freshly ticked off.
I really have trouble understanding how Obama carried the Jewish vote. I have a Jewish friend who’s makes being Jewish about 500% of her identity and who regards herself as extremely pro-Israel but she totally supports Obama on all this.
According to a survey in “The Jerusalem Post” only 4% of Jewish Israelis thought Obama was pro-Israel. I’m not sure why so many Jewish Americans see it so differently.
I don't know why they support democrats overwhelmingly

Here's my thought
Leopard1996 Saturday, September 19th at 1:31PM EDT (link)If Iran is such a threat now, that we are abandoning the land based missle defense shields to defend against their missles, then why don’t we just finish the job, and take out the nuke facilities there, or give the green light to a certain nation that is in immediate threat of getting hit by a nuke from Iran.
This is another snowjob from from a president who did a little too much nasal skiing in his lifetime.
“The accumluated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout, “Save Us!”….and I’ll look down and whisper, “No”…The Watchmen

I'll give you the lefty argument
antisocial Saturday, September 19th at 3:59PM EDT (link)I don’t want to guess what the administration is thinking. There are lots of scenarios that could play out.
Here goes the lefty argument…. Iran is not a threat to us. We are not preventing anybody to take action. Why should we do others work? This is not our problem. We have one thousand times more military strength and we can take care of ourselves.
The problem of course being that Israel does not have many friends. We have an administration that is more sympathetic to all countries in middle east except Israel. Once Iran acquires nuclear capability NO country can launch an offensive without catastrophic consequences. And then you have Islamic revolutionary nuts running that nation. So there is no choice except to stop this from happening. For a long time we know talks and sanctions are not working. If somebody thought Russia is going to help with sanctions, I would call that stupid thinking.
I don’t think this administration is going to make an offensive move.
With an increasingly isolated Israel striking targets inside Iran will be very risky for commerce (Israel itself) and could lead to a drawn out conflict. Israel might have to do just that for survival. Unfortunately I don’t see this administration backing Israel in the conflict of our times.

Shift the argument some more....... Brezinski suggests US should shoot down Israeli attempts at airstrikes on Iran and that Iraqi airspace belongs to The USA.
Kenny Solomon Saturday, September 19th at 7:03PM EDT (link)Just saw this on another blog site that linked to The Weekly Standard page…….. The actual interview with Brezinski came from (oh no) The Daily Beast.

No comment from me, because I’d go a bit further than simply “coarsening the dialogue”….. actually, I’d go much further.
Of course you can have my guns……. Bullets first.
I didn’t say rounds, shells or magazines……
I said bullets first.

Iraqi Airspace: Our Response?
Ausonius Saturday, September 19th at 7:13PM EDT (link)Why is the Left anti-Israel?
Because Israel -after all - is the real reason for all problems in the Middle East. All Islamic states are peaceful: right?
I raised this question earlier this week on other topics: what might surprise you is that I can quite easily see our pacifist president giving the order to shoot down Israeli warplanes as a way of “preserving peace in our times.”
Ultimate question: would American pilots and ground-to-air missile crews in Iraq obey those orders?
I will respond per my understanding
antisocial Monday, September 21st at 3:50PM EDT (link)Left is no really anti Israel. They are for an ideology that perfectly coincides with their power gab mentality. You will always find them siding with dictators and theocracies.
I think our forces are too disciplined to defy official orders.
