Here is the ‘why’: Court records show Robinson has been arrested at least 13 times since 2009, mostly on theft, burglary and minor drug charges. Records also show he skipped multiple hearings.

Here is the what:

Homer Wright says he won’t hesitate to buy another gun — or use it to defend himself or his South Side tavern.

The 81-year-old Englewood man who shot a teen who allegedly had broken into his home said Monday he was happy that weapons charges against him were dropped, but he was annoyed that cops had seized his gun.

Here is the Who

Anthony Robinson, 19, was trying to break into Wright’s home behind the tavern to steal liquor about 6:30 a.m. March 26 when Wright shot him in the ankle, authorities said.

Robinson, of the 6600 block of South Wood, was charged with burglary.

Here is the real America:

After Wright was charged, family and neighbors rallied around him. They said he has run Sheree’s Past Time tavern in the front of his home and lived in the back with his wife and family for more than 40 years.

And here is the Question of the Day:

Having spoken up for a 16-year old expelled high school student,  in whose locker was found burglar tools, unexplained female jewelry, and evidence of stored drugs,  isn’t it time, Mr. President, to speak up for an 81-year business owner who has been targeted again and again by young thugs?

There are several reasons this story touched me. Part is geography, part caste system.
My eldest could have gone to Univ of Chicago. I took him to Chicago, drove him under the El tracks along 63rd street, then got no resistance when it was taken off the list.
66th and Wood is about 20 blocks west of State. Keep walking east on it then south and you are in Hyde Park, where the first family has a lovely home.
I worked at 63rd & Halsted. A black butcher there showed me his gold tooth. The women like these he said. Even years ago we sold mountain oysters and pig brains, other offal. If crime was bad then, in the land of fatherless boys whose only out is selling drugs, it is unbearable, crushing, now.
If we had a real President, he might speak to this. His wife, who is from 85th and 2000 east, might as well. But they are people of the arugula now.

I saw a Jesse Waters segment on O’Reilly last night in which Waters interviews local religious leaders and residents and questions Rahm.

From the transcript of the video which was eye-opening to say the least, JesseWaters:

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Most of the politicians that are from Chicago just like Trayvon Martin case, you know yes, Bobby Rush on the House floor in a hoodie when people are dying in this district.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Just because someone wear’s a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think that’s kind of hypocritical. And that’s my honest opinion.

Apparently, women were too afraid for their lives to talk to Waters. How about this war on women?

Wright is not permitted to own a gun. He is a convicted felon. He violated both Federal and State laws by purchasing and possessing a gun.

I am a gun owner. I literally sleep with one under my pillow. I follow all the state and Federal gun laws. Were I to be convicted of a felony, I would have to continue to follow those laws and give up my guns.

I believe that a person should be able to earn back the right to own a gun. Maybe 10 years of staying out of trouble. Maybe only violent felonies should apply, I don’t know.

But the laws do need to be rewritten. Dropping the charges against Wright was a political act. It was probably the right one, but it wasn’t, per se, enforcing the law. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he used his discretion to drop the charges. But Wright still broke the law and the DA would have been justified in pressing the case.
