MEMBER DIARY

ROUND 2 – Alternative 2012 RedState Poll – ‘The Elite 8′

Based on the results of the alternative 2012 poll I posted on Monday and tallied this evening, I submit to you Round 2. The top 8 vote-getters in the original poll were pretty clear, so let’s do a runoff using the same rules as before. For your reference, here they are:

1. Post your votes publicly as comments to this diary (this will limit it to RedState members).
2. List your TOP 3 candidates in ranked order (#1=favorite, #2=2nd favorite, #3=3rd favorite).
3. You MUST list 3 candidates or I will not count your votes. In this round and any subsequent rounds, I will NOT accept “None of the Above” as one of your votes.
4. All votes must be for one of the 8 listed candidates.
5. Please do not add any narrative to your votes to keep the page size down.
6. I will leave this “open” until noon EST on Thursday, then tally the votes.
7. Votes will be assigned by points (1st choice = 4 points, 2nd choice = 2 points, 3rd choice = 1 point)
8. This is just for fun as an alternative way to conduct a poll.

The candidates are (in alphabetical order):
1. Haley Barbour
2. John Bolton
3. Herman Cain
4. Chris Christie
5. Mitch Daniels
6. Sarah Palin
7. Mike Pence
8. Rick Perry

Enjoy!

Palin — ’nuff said. More balls than any other politician on the national scene; fantastically pro-life; believer in Christ and in “American exceptionalism”.
Has taken the hard shots and kept on going…and far more intelligent than the left thinks. Great on Energy policy. (Let them think she’s just Caribou Barbie…that’s how they got snookered by Dubya, they “misunderestimated” him; and Reagan was merely an “amiable dunce”, right?)
Cain — don’t know much except that he’s a conservative, and has real-world experience: hence will not go pell-mell towards Socialist economic destruction.
Bolton — has the beliefs and foreign policy experience, but I don’t know if his prior positions have enabled him to fulfill the “behind-the-scenes” duties required of a President: not a matter of charisma, but of pulling the party into line behind his views.

Extra credit: Michelle Bachmann for Prez, Palin (again) for VP, just so we can print up T-shirts and bumper stickers reading “Bachmann-Palin Overdrive”…

Although my favorite candidate for the 2012 race has always been Mitt Romney. Romney has the turnaround experience that the other candidates lack. He also has business experience that only Herman Cain can match.

I figure Obama will be a one-termer, and will not seek re-election, so Cain has an automatic edge against any white Dem… and both Cain and Pence stack up well against just about any Dem running. If it is Obama, then Palin is the silver bullet… but I hope she takes Pence or Daniels as her veep.

Absolutely not, my friend. The more the merrier!

Personally, I like all three. However if I must chose one, it wil have tol be Mike Pence. Follow by a close Palin and then Cain.

that Palin will not run, as he is a close ally of her’s.

If she does run she WILL win the nomination, That is a given since there is now a strong cult of personality around her that is grabbing about 40% of the likely GOP voters, and they will not be swayed to anyone else no matter what Amen Hallelujah!

Now, I would not be opposed to having her as a president although I don’t think she is the most qualified candidate we could have, but I really don’t think she is electable whatsoever.

She polls in the high negatives and very very low approval among independents, and that is the guys you HAVE to get to be elected into national office. And that logic has no effect upon the Palin faithful.

I believe the only people who have earned our support as our standard bearer in 2012 are those who are (1) social conservatives (2) fiscal conservatives, and (3) have focused their efforts in the past couple of years on offering principled opposition to the Obama administration. The only people of stature who meet all three of those essential criterion are Palin, Pence, and DeMint. Since DeMint (who is not running) is not on our list, I’m voting Perry as 3rd because he’s the closest to the other three.

Those people who have primarily focused all their efforts on their unannounced but obvious runs for the presidency (e.g., Romney, Pawlenty, Cain, etc) have by their actions completely disqualified themselves as our standard bearer–IMO–by doing so. I am deeply disappointed with Cain, for example, who has spent his time over the past week or so ginning up his followers to vote in the straw polls here while the Dems have been burning down the house in DC with START, net neutrality, etc. Would it have made a difference if he had focused his followers on what the Dems were doing rather than on these polls? I don’t know, but the fact that it didn’t occur to him is quite telling.

I’m having a medical procedure done on Thursday AM. Thus, I will leave this poll open until 8PM EST on Thursday. As soon as I am able after that, I will tally and post the results. My plan at this point is to narrow it down to a “Final Four” and do one last poll.

I really love Sarah but if she wanted to be prez, she shouldn’t have left the governorship. I understand and support her reasons for doing so but I think she took herself out of the running, at least for the 2012 cycle. I could see her running at a later date. I hope she will continue in the amazing role she has been playing for the past two years – super-communicator and fundraiser for the right kind of candidates! Just my opinion.
