MEMBER DIARY

Blaspheming the Gipper, the death of Time magazine, and fun with a shredder.

I wanted to write this diary a couple hours ago, but I had to wait until I finished cleaning the vomit off my keyboard. I had just finished breakfast when I saw this disgusting picture on a Facebook post:
Reagan_Obama_blasphemy

Ronald Reagan spent his entire political life fighting Communism. He dedicated much of his Presidency to winning the Cold War. He had the guts to call the USSR the “Evil Empire“. Within a few years of the end of his second term, the Berlin Wall fell and the Soviet Union collapsed. The culmination of his resolve and his steel spine was the ultimate victory over tyranny, and he lived to see it.

Thank God he did not live long enough to see his America threatened by statism from within, from someone duly elected to hold the same office he held. If Reagan were alive today, I’ve no doubt that he would be fighting against Obama’s socialist agenda with all his heart and soul. To have Time magazine desecrate his memory, on the verge of his 100th birthday celebration, is unforgivable.

So what can we do about it? Should we just ignore it and write it off as just one more example of the death of journalism, the bias of the lamestream media? No! I won’t do it. They’ve gone too far this time. But, alas, I am not a violent person. So here is what I will do, and I suggest you do the same if you agree with me. I will print out a full-page version of the Time cover (they won’t get a dime from me for the real cover!!). I will cut out Reagan’s picture, then shred the remainder. I will put the Reagan photo, along with the shreddings of the rest, in a regular mailing envelope, along with a note that I will never ever ever buy a copy of Time magazine again. And that goes for any that have Sarah Palin on the cover (and those of you that know me should know how significant that statement is :) .

I will then mail this package to:
John Q. Griffin
President, Time Inc. News Group
1271 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10020

I suspect it won’t make any difference, but it will make me feel better and that is the most important thing! If you feel the same as I do, I recommend you do the same. Or if you have a better (non-violent of course!) suggestion, post it in the comments.

When they photoshop one of the greatest presidents with the WORST president in history to sell their rag then they have lost it……

I worked for a DC news crew during the 1984 Republican convention. The DC folks were in utter contempt of Reagan. I could not stand it. I saw liberalism up close and personel and rejected it in all it’s forms.

So here he have a desperate administration and MSM to paint their boy as some kind of new Reagan…..Sorry folks – won’t work.

    http://sweetness-light.com/archive/obama-wants-to-roll-back-reagan

Obama spelled out his reasons for getting into politics in his first autobiography, Dreams From My Father, on p. 54:

    CHAPTER SEVEN
IN 1983, I DECIDED to become a community organizer.

There wasn?t much detail to the idea; I didn?t know anyone making a living that way. When classmates in college asked me just what it was that a community organizer did, I couldn?t answer them directly. Instead, I?d pronounce on the need for change. Change in the White House, where Reagan and his minions were carrying on their dirty deeds. Change in the Congress, compliant and corrupt. Change in the mood of the country, manic and self-absorbed. Change won?t come from the top, I would say. Change will come from a mobilized grass roots.

That?s what I?ll do, I?ll organize black folks. At the grass roots. For change.

And that indeed has been his goal ever since ? to roll back the ?Reagan Revolution.?

But the media is hiding this fact from the American voter, which is a powerful tribute to how popular the ?Reagan Revolution? was and still is.

I mean who is this supposed to fool? They either end up rewriting Reagan as a liberal or giving cover to liberals (who have convince themselves they are independents).

You couple that with Ron Reagan’s rewriting of his dad’s presidency and I just don’t know what conclusions the average person is supposed to come to.

    • azaeroprof

I’m glad you posted the Obama quote. I will print it out and include it in my “letter” to Time!

      • izoneguy

My rec button won’t work anymore. I am on MAC and just upgraded everything.

        Running Safari 5.0.3.

All the right wing blogs are on this.

If I was a billionaire I would buy airtime on ABC, CBS, NBC, buy a doubletruck ad in TIME and a full page in the NYT to refute the MSM claims.

It was sickening to hear the MSM talk about Obama as “Reganesque”

How about this for a headline:

Obama is a fraud and the most corrupt President America has ever had.

saw the gipper as all style and tactics with no substance. Obama wants to fool Americans.

    • itrytobenice

the liberal MFM praises or respects are dead conservatives. When there is still a threat that they will run for office or support conservatives, they’re worse than Hitler.

  • bobmontgomery

…write letters to scattered outlets local, state and national, calling editors Ministers of Information, or Ministers of Propaganda. They get real upset about it. We passed outrage several exits ago.

    • azaeroprof

I will address my note accordingly.

      • leonidus2010

        Genius Bob.

Glenn Beck or Rush should hire you I think you have upstaged them.

        Rachel Maddow, Minister of Propoganda

        David Gregory, Minister of Information

MS-NBC, Ministry of Information for Premier Obama UASR, (United American Socialst Republic) or is it the PRA (People’s Republic of America).

  • Common_Cents

I heard it was photoshopped thinking someone just made it up, but this is a real cover?

    Wow.

Isn’t the left all ticked off too? After all, isn’t Reagan pretty much the devil to the left wing whacks?

  • http://www.laborunionreport.com LaborUnionReport

Reagan is approving of BHO…and BHO laughingly accepting of Reagan’s approval.

I don’t buy Time anyway–It lost any usefulness years ago.

    • OccamsRazor

Reagan with the red tie while “approving” of the grey neutral independent tie-bs. Also, rhetorically, has everyone forgotten how much ARM twisting Conservatives had to do just to get him to wear the flag lapel?

  • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

One man believed in the sanctity of human life, the dignity of faith, the power of entrepreneurs, the morality of markets, and the necessity of freedom.

The other believes in the power if unions, the exacerbation of racial divisions, the rhetoric of class warfare, the hegemony of bureaucracy, the arrogance of politicians, and the class struggle of radicals.

But other than that, yeah they are exactly the same.

    • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

At the Barnes and Noble today I saw a kiosk for the Reagan centennial with lots of books, but they included the idiotic book by his poof son and neglected the greatest Reagan book. “Reagan in his own hand”.

      • azaeroprof

that you wait for a time when no employees are present, then take the stack of “Ron Jr” books and move them to the “Fantasy” section!

  • Brian Hibbert

that the progressives still hate Reagan with a passion that exceeds even their hatred of Rove. Stories that associate Obama with the Gipper can only serve to drive a wedge between him and the loony left.

    • lineholder

of Obama appeal to Independents? Maybe this was what was intended.

  • eburke
  • azaeroprof

    :)

  • The_Gadfly

but I never even bought Time when I was an impressionable young moderate lad in middle school. And that was before the Gipper was elected.

    • azaeroprof

I’ve only bought 2 or 3 issues in the last 10+ years, only when Sarah Palin was on the cover. :)

  • http://thesandsinstitute.org Vassar Bushmills

Really nice acknowledgment of that fact, azaeroprof. Cheers

    • azaeroprof

Way back when, I wrote a paper for a college class in Principle of Persuasion comparing Time, Newsweek, and US News in their coverage of the Soviet’s downing of the Korean airliner. My conclusion at the time was that Time was the most pro-American in their coverage. How things have changed. (Actually, they may still be the most pro-American, but all 3 of them have slid way leftward since then.)

      • http://thesandsinstitute.org Vassar Bushmills

For at the time (before Zuckerman bought US News) I thought News week was, simply because they had George Will as a columnist. I always assumed Time to be the more liberal, but I’ll go back and rethink it now.

  • mriggio

and should change their name to MAD, what me worry? magazine. I wonder how they reconcile their cover with their brethren over at Newsweek?

  • ssshannon1026

I have always wondered why conservatives don’t try this tactic more often. With far smaller numbers, liberals seem to be fairly effective at it. If there really is a clear majority of conservatives, we should be able to take down the entire liberal media monolith by doing the same thing. With social media to organize it, we could pull off our own little Tunisia.

    • leonidus2010

Voting with our dollars should send a clear message…

TIME advertisers in the despicable issue are…

      American Red Cross

Charles Scwab (based in San Francisco the heart of the LEFT COAST need I say more)

      Concern Worldwide (?)

E-Trade Financial (original from Palo Alto CA LEFT COAST again then moved to NY)

Eli Lilly and Company (Cialis, Humalog, Methadone, Prozac, Zyprexa)

Hyundai [foreign company based in Korea] – BUY FORD American no TARP

      Intuit (TurboTax, Quicken, QuickBooks)

      HBO (owned by Time Warner)

  • bobmontgomery

..effort to save Obama. We have Junior’s book coming out as an opportunity to keep independents conflicted, we have a heads-up to the Press that O is reading Reagan, we have the Time cover, we have Bob Shrum writing a piece titled ‘Morning in Obama’s America’, and we’re sure other more subtle things. The direction appears to be not so much moving O to the right as re-emphasizing his comparison to greatness. It’s not what he says folks, (though don’t he say it well?) it’s what he is, which is….One for the Ages.
As much an effort to save his base as to keep independents in line (don’t give up on the One; in your heart you know he’s great).
The counter to this narrative – personal attacks. Character assasination. Exposure of vile anti-American ideology, Shouting “You lie!” No, wait……I take that …..back….

    • azaeroprof

makes an interesting point if I interpret it correctly. Bill Clinton’s best friend was the attacks that many of us on the right made against him. Although he was (is) a vile human being, the attacks against him were so personal and so harsh that it created a wave of sympathy for him among many of those who weren’t hardline against him. We risk doing the same with Obama (if we haven’t already).

      • bobmontgomery

…..and I often shoot from the hip. But. We didn’t risk creating a wave of sympathy for ….sympathy…. by going along with affirmative action and environmentalism and multiculturalism and we are just the same as everybody elseism…. .and Political Correctness and civility have broughtus to the point that we are incapable of speaking, let alone acting.
As for Clinton, when he won, our side shut up and wished him well in his rehabilitation. Neither he nor his wife had the grace to just go away and we are still dealing wit him and his flacks today, in domestic and foreign policy both.
        I don’t know what I’m talking about; I’m just mad. :-)

Accolades and attention (rightfully) paid to Reagan on his 100th birthday by the MSM, Obama’s public embracing of Reaganism, and Obama’s floundering in the polls.

    Reagan != God.

Let’s try to keep things in perspective.

The Boycott is a good idea. Bankruptcy might come sooner.

In August of 1981 President Reagan stood up to Air Traffic controllers and fired them. That took political courage, something that this President does not have. This President would love to see card-check and he has through Executive orders helped out the unions. Obama wishes he could compare to President Reagan. President Reagan just showed them the door.
