Virginia governor McDonnell hits campaign trail; fuels speculation of national run

Chris Christie might be getting some deserved attention right now for his superior leadership in New Jersey, but it’s Bob McDonnell and his 63% approval rating that has raised $2.5 million for GOP candidates nationwide.

Good read today in Politics Daily about McDonnell’s recent campaigning throughout the country, including in New Hampshire, with Republican Governors Association Chair Haley Barbour and possible speculation on what might be on the Virginia governor’s agenda for 2012.

Such talk is always good fun, such as McD running for President or VP, but my personal favorite is that he becomes chairman of the RGA, and then runs for president in 2016. What he does in 2014 to keep himself busy until the campaign for president heats up in 2015 is anyone’s guess, but he shouldn’t run for U.S. Senate – that’s the job for Virginia’s Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to take on U.S. Sen. Mark Warner in a battle for the ages.

At any rate, McDonnell finishes up his campaign swing here in Virginia with Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, Cuccinelli, and Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins in a series of stops all across the Commonwealth on Halloween and Monday:

when he found he had “extra” money and thought giving a raise to state employees was a good idea. There are counties in VA with 17% and higher unemployment and you want to REWARD employees who have higher salaries then most private employees and benefits that would make a drunken sailor blush. It shows that quite like every politician that making your employees comfortable is more important then saving for a rainy day, I have NEVER and will NEVER understand not saving supposed “extra” money!

faux paus for McDonald. There have plenty more mistakes. Seems McDonald hasn’t seen the first federal dollar he is willing to give up. Seems that he has been for things, before the Republicans question him on it, and, then he backs off as though he was never for it, the federal program “Race to the Top” was only one example. I really don’t want to trash him, but, I will use the term dissapointing comes to mind. Cuccinelli is putting the state on the map, with little help from the Gov. unfortunately. I’m going to let it go right there.

Feda Kidd Morton. She came in last, or maybe next to last in a field of 7, on election day. Many in the district knew she had “no chance”, yet you kept a losing candidate in the race, when she should have backed out early on. She never polled above a percent or two.

Stop trying to push Bob McDonald as a 2012 candidate. So far, in VA, there is no reason to tout his record, we will just let that go for another day. Ken Cuccinelli is the conservative that will be going places, well beyond VA Senator, and you know it, if you are willing to be honest. It’s not the time, or the place for Bob McDonnell, unless you want to push him before he makes too many more mistakes.

Don’t be fooled by what happened in 06, there are real things that aren’t right about him as a candidate anymore. There are a slew of new and young conservatives across the state that you should Google.

    Corey Stewart
    Mark Obenshain
    Ryan McDougle
    Jim LeMunyon
    Jill Holtzman Vogel

All of these would be phenomenal new candidates that could really do great things in the US Senate and continue to tea party spirit of 2010.
